I ate lunch while in town for business. I arrived @ 11 & it was already busy. By the time my party of 2 left, there was a wait for a table. I liked the ambiance of the place plus the fact that they had a salad bar added to it. I had a cheeseburger that was pretty average but the fresh cut fries were awesome! Also had one of their cinnamon rolls from the salad bar & it was delicious. Overall, although the cheeseburger was just fair, I really liked the the place & will return the next time I am in Quincy. read more

In for a late dinner with a coworker about 830 on a Thursday evening. We elbowed up to the bar. Waitress was awesome and drinks in no time flat. I ordered the shrimp basked which came with fries and coleslaw. It was great. Coworker had the grilled pork tenderloin sandwich he said was excellent. When visiting a town we like to try local restaurants. Kelly's had good reviews and we weren't disappointed. Good food, casual environment, good service. We enjoyed it so much my husband and I had had a lunch and dinner there. The food was good and they have a very nice salad bar. The cheese soup is one of their special dishes and it was very good. My one suggestions would be that they add some Irish beer and/or locally brewed beers to their beer list. Having said that they are doing a great business without them. Mediocre. Nothing special. If your a foodie, stay away. Locals love it. I will say they do have great fried chicken..... so if you're into fried chicken, beer, and cinnamon rolls, you'll love it! We were in Quincy on business and an acquaintance recommended Kelly's. We went on a Friday mid afternoon so they weren't very busy. I was thrilled to see a salad bar since most of those have been eliminated due to COVID. This was fresh and delicious. That day, they also had fried fish on the bar. Their cheese soup is supposed to be a specialty but I didn't care for it. The cinnamon rolls were wonderful, though -- warmed with coffee would make them perfect. Food and service were really good. We enjoyed it so much that we went back the next day. What a change a day makes! They were very busy but we didn't have to wait on a table. We finally had to ask for a server, though. She took our drink orders and disappeared. We were getting salad bars again so were at least able to eat a little. It was fresh and tasty again. That day, though, the meat was chicken strips. They were overly breaded and probably from frozen strips. The breading was so thick and hard, I could not eat them. My husband ordered a burger and our friend ordered the Chicken Club. Both took an extraordinarily long time to come out of the kitchen. We finally finished, paid the bill, and left. When we got home, my husband discovered they had run his credit card twice, 12 minutes apart! He had to call and get that straightened out. Arrived just before noon. We were picking up a new car at Gem City we live 90 miles away. They must seat you. Walked us past numerous booths and tables to a back room that was a bit cool (temp). Ordered soft drinks and I had a Reuben with fries instead of German potatoe salad. Husband had a patty melt with added side of fries. Each added the "famous" salad bar. The salad bar was tired. The dressed Ceasar Salad was limp. The Waldorf (apple) salad was mush. The brocolli had no flavor. There were several others including the macaroni salad straight out of one of those big plastic tubs. The fish was so muddy tasting, catfish? The clam chowder was all potatoes. The cheese soup was ok. Husbands patty melt was good. My reubens bottom crust was so wet and oily you could have squeezed the oil out. Fries would have been better hot. Our server was ok. Check took a while to come. Maybe because we were in Siberia. Plenty of choices in Quincy before we go back here. read more

I have heard good things about this place from other Yelp reviews, and I was upset that my experience wasn't as great. The atmosphere was great, however it was packed very tight with people, all of whom were not required (or were) wearing masks. Our waitress was not the best, and there was a piece of food in my girlfriend's drink, before we even got our food. Speaking of the food, although it was great, it was no where near worth the hour wait for it to get to us. And even though they took an hour to prepare our meal, I guess they didn't have enough time to look for lettuce that wasn't black with mold for my burger. Enjoyed a pork tenderloin that was very good with fresh condiments. I also opted for their salad bar which was really good that had quite a few choices. All the salads I had were delicious! The only negative I can say is their sides are all ala carte. But that is the only negative - not bad mind you - was this. All in all it was very good food at pretty good price. Kelly's is hit and miss off the menu. For example, the tenderloin is my favorite of all restaurants. The fish and chips are kindergarten frozen out of a box quality. Coming from an Irish pub, you would think they would really try harder than fish sticks. The salad bar used to be high quality but they cut back on quality ingredients. With that said, it's still decent most of the time. They used to have mushrooms and peppers you could put on your salad. Cheese soup is always good though again, the recipe has changed. I say all that to say I still recommend them but you have to know what you're ordering. Beer selection is weak. What Irish pub doesn't have Guinness on tap? They should add Harp as well. With as many times as I've been disappointed, I will say this was my best trip through the salad bar in a long time. Catfish, clam chowder, crab pasta, salad, cheese soup, corn pudding, pecan sticky rolls. No complaints. Except my Smithwicks beer was not filled to the top. Give it a try but Abbey is better quality. What is with the crappy reviews!? I am from Chicagoland and I am one who hates chain restaurants; therefore, I am quite picky and know good food. In Chicago there is the best culinary choices one could think of. I also have lived in downstate Illinois for 3 years of my life, and I will say the restaurants are just awful in downstate Illinois, yuck! Food at restaurants in Western IL, Southern IL, and Central IL is just downright either gross or just edible at best. This place; however, tickled my fancy. The food was surprisingly good! I think I had a burger that was just awesome. I had low expectations, but this place worked for me. It was not just edible, it was pretty good! I went to college in Quincy many moons ago and Kelly's was always one of my favorites! It is true that at night it is a full fledged bar but lunch and dinner are great! My suggestion is the salad bar, not only do they have the BEST cheese soup you will ever experience they also have Cinnamon rolls on the buffet that are fresh and the size of your head! * * * So I just went to Kelly's for the first time in a while and it was excellent. Everything was as good as I remembered plus I had forgotten that they have the best Chicken Nachos in town. But you just need to order the half order- 3 of us couldn't finish it!! read more

My grandparents insisted on taking me to lunch here on a Tuesday. We got the last table in the whole place at lunch time. I was expecting to starve while waiting for our food, but they had the awesome salad bar which I quickly added to my entree. I ordered the Crab melt with no sides. I have not had such a sandwich before...it was huge and delicious. I only ate a fourth of it and took the rest home. I also really enjoyed the salad bar. The giant cinnamon rolls were wonderful. There were many tasty cold salads, split pea with ham soup and the famous cheese soup as well as some kind of potpie and a hot vegetable dish. I had a diet restriction so I had to pass on the cheese soup, but the split pea had lots of ham cubes and carrots--wonderful! I am sorry some people had a bad experience. I didn't, despite it being packed to the rafters. I would go back. I had reluctantly entered this place expecting a dingy atmosphere, and while it was dark inside, it was not dingy, but different. Sort of like inside 54th Street Bar and Grill. My grandparents couldn't finish their enormous Rubens either and took them home. They resolved to eat at Kelly's more often...it was a good meal and a good time. read more

I was in town for work and unfortunately I live about 2.5 hours away so I'm not going to be able to visit this amazing place as much as I'd like. I ordered the pan fried catfish with baked potato and salad bar. Everything's was perfect. The staff and owner were great as well. I have been here a few times and have formed a proper opinion of the food. I have ordered the prime rib sandwich 4 times total. 3 out of 4 times my prime rib was extremely tough and horrible quality, and the fries were cold. I have ordered the chicken strip basket once. The chicken is good quality, the breading though needs major work. It is covered in grease pools in the breading and the breading is basically the equivalent of greasy crunchy air, no flavor at all, and thats really unfortunate. The silver lining on both of these food items is they are somewhat cheap. Prime rib sandwich comes in at 12.99, and the basket is 9.99, but for a place that constantly brags about their amazing prime rib, the sandwich is a huge hit or miss and usually it is a miss. I have only had one good prime rib sandwich and it wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't tough and my fries were warm at least. read more

I had take-out from their while visiting the nearby Knapheide factory on business. I had the Grilled Chicken Chipotle Salad, which I certainly recommend. Even though it is the beginning of February, the strawberries were good. The grated Parmesan cheese and cashews were a plus and they gave me more than enough dressing (usually restaurants don't give enough for take-out.) The garlic toast was a nice touch -- I dipped it in the cheese soup, which was also delicious. I can't comment on the restaurant itself, I didn't go to pick up the food. read more

Bar and tavern atmosphere, with very friendly attentive service. Known for their cheese soup and cinnamon rolls I believe. The cheese soup looked very unappetizing so I didn't try it but many swear by it. The cinnamon rolls are both delicious and too much (I'm not generally fond of very sweet) more accurately the rolls are amazing but be careful with the frosting...I think it's best to take some off as about half the amount seems like it could be right. The salad bar is excellent with the highlights being chilly, Caesar, good veggies, etc. I ordered the chicken club and it was a really good hearty sandwich. Honestly I give it 3.5 stars. read more
