I stopped by here over the weekend and it was not busy whatsoever. It was quite inside. I haven't had Panera in a long time because it is not my favorite place. But the people who I were with wanted to stop in. So we did. There was no line and you can now order on an iPad and grab a buzzer when your food was ready or they can text you when it is. I ordered turkey chili and a chicken avocado melt. It came out to about $13 with a bottled water. Which was not terrible of a price for the size of the soup bowl. I also don't bother to write reviews of these places unless my experience was either very good or very bad. Stopping at Panera in Quincy, IL was a pleasant surprise as we traveled home from St Louis. We arrived Friday afternoon at 12:45 (prime lunch hour) and every table was full plus there were about 12 cars in the drive through window line. Despite the crowded atmosphere, everyone was pleasant and polite (shout out to Angie and the young man who was refilling the iced tea dispensers). We expected a long wait for our food but it was reasonable given how crowded it was. This location also seemed to attract locals as several greeted the employees by name and vice versa. You either love Panera Bread or you hate it. There seems to be no middle ground with these food locations. As always the bread was fresh, staff were amazing, and it was busy as all get out, but did I mention the food was delicious. I do appreciate the "buzzer boxes" as I refer to them, so you can get your drink and find a table vice waiting in the herd to get your meal. The service at this location has been up and down as it is with most Panera's but never bad enough to prompt a yelp review, never good enough for one either for that matter. I walk in tonight at 830 thinking it will be like any other night only to find everything broken down to a point that I had to ask if they were closed. As shown in the photos the conditions of the serving counters were well below acceptable conditions considering the open top pour it yourself pitcher directly in front of a bucket of cleaning solutions and a trash port, no telling if anyone has reached over and lord knows what could have dropped in. That followed by trash on the counter where food is set for customers to collect, I don't know what sort of rubbish it is but that is beyond the point. The cherry is when I see a young man wiping down the main counter and glass drop his cleaning towel only to pick it up and continue wiping, not a good habit and would hate to think if it's a reoccurring thing. The menu is much reduced from what it used to be. They've gotten rid of all their good breakfast sandwiches and their dinner menu is pretty limited. Pastry options are fewer. Prices have gone up, portion sizes are down. As for this particular Panera, they've prepared our order wrong, no compensation. Tables are always dirty. Workers didn't know particulars about the menu, like what caffeine free drinks they offer. Coffee and tea being their main beverages, you'd think this would be something they know. Not enough outlets. Somehow, though they needed more seating, I think they actually managed to build a brand new facility with less. I like the order from the table option. read more

I'm very disappointed with this Panera location. I have tried to give it several tries but ever since they opened the new, "improved" place it has been all downhill. The first time I went it was a very cold day, they let people come in a side door and the wind was blowing right through the restaurant. We were freezing but it was so busy there was no where to move to. They brought my salad and it had no chicken like it was supposed to. I was alone with my small daughter and could not get any servers attention so I just didn't eat it. When I brought it up after my daughter was done, the manager barely apologized but did give me a refund, since I didn't eat it anyway. Then today I brought my daughter again and it was very busy. They only had one cashier working. I ordered our food and when it came out they gave my daughter a moldy, browning sliced apple for her side. They didn't even take the time to cut the seeds out. It's for a kids meal! After we ate, I wanted to redeem my pastry item and the line was soooo long again with one cashier. I ended up going through the drive thru to get it and it was so much easier. This is by far the best Panera I have ever visited and I go a lot in St. Louis. The decor is updated and tasteful, the food was fresh and the portions were generous. The service was so good. We were served two of the same sandwiches and they gave it to us on the house. When we changed our minds about one of our sides, they allowed us to keep the side we ordered and gave us the baguette for free. When I was filling my drink, one of the servers inquired about my day. This is a great Panera Bread location. I ate there a couple of times on a recent visit (breakfast both times). I had both of the oatmeal selections and both were very good. Staff are friendly and efficient. The restaurant eating area and the bathrooms are very clean. We were able to sit outside both mornings. The outdoor seating area is a decent size. Okay, there are thousands of Panera's and St. Louis Bread Company Locations, so why write a review about them? Simple, the key to eating at Panera's is whether the local manager, actually manages his or her employees, and insists on freshly made items, served promptly in a clean environment. When the employees focus on doing a great job for their customers, then they get super marks. When the manager is mediocre, then so is the location and the employees attitude and performance reflects the managers. This location is in an incredibly busy shopping strip. Lunch on Saturday was mobbed, and the restaurant full to the brim. The employees, moved from station to station, to ensure super service, the food was as fresh and served beautifully and was top notch tasty. I was impressed with how clean the restaurant was when it was that busy and how friendly the employees were. I felt like that they were glad to see my family as customers. The next morning we went to breakfast, and the manager jumped on a cash register when he saw that the other two had more than 3 people in line. I thought that is the sign of a young man going places in the Panera's organization. Nothing tricky, the ladies had oatmeal and berries, but it was hot and fresh. I had two egg whites, and a toasted bagel. Not tricky, but the eggs were freshly made and did not taste like they had been sitting around, and the bagel was cut and toasted in a matter of a minute. I'm here in Quincy IL for about 10 days. I needed to find a place with WIFI to work and study. Panera Bread fits the bill. They've got a good menu and great coffee. Great soup in a bread bowl and a pretty good selection of sandwiches and panini's. I picked up a couple loafs of bread and desert..Very Good !! This location must be pretty new. The staff got a little nervous around the lunch hour. They were absolutely packed from noon to 1:30. They'll get better at dealing with the lunch rush as they get more experience. I went in to Panera Bread with my Daughter and Grandson son for lunch . I ordered French onion soup and a salad . I ordered my Grandson mac&cheese . When my order was ready , I went to pick it up , they had not given me my Grandsons order , they told me I had not been charged so I had to go back up and reorder and pay again . That was fine people make mistakes . I sit down to eat , I look at my soup and all it was , was a clump of soggy onion's with cheese on top and NO SOUP !!!! Both times I was here the order taker struggled with a simple sandwich order and still got it wrong. The seating inside is terrible with no large booths and very little plug in outlet unless you sit at the counter. I use to love the old location and never had issues, and now it's just terrible. Another local restaurant heading downhill fast. We used to eat here a lot, but over the past several months it has gotten consistently worse. One counter person engaged me in an argument over the fact that he said I could only get a particular soup in a bread bowl (forget which soup). Told him I don't want a bread bowl. He said you have to take it that way or you can't get it. So I paid the $10 for a bowl of soup in a bread bowl and was served about a cup of soup in a standard bowl. When I asked what the heck, they acted like it was my fault! The total was close to 30 bucks for two people for soup and sandwiches, and that's simply too high for what they serve. Normally I love Panera bread and their service but today I didn't receive part of my order even tho my receipt says that I clearly paid for it. I order soup, a salad, and the works to-go. I also order a bagel and as the cashier got done toasting it she dropped it on the floor. Mistakes happen and I watched her go get a new bagel. I waited patiently in line as another customer was having issues with her order; I was very understanding as the 5 o'clock rush was picking up and I've worked in food service and know how things go. Love their sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich -- it's absolutely delicious. Decided to branch out and try something a bit more "healthy" (as if you're going to find something that is). In that vein, I tried the turkey sausage, egg white, and spinach breakfast sandwich today. Absolutely, the most disgusting thing I've tried to eat in a long time. One bite, and nearly $5 later, it was in the trash.
