I spent a little under 2 hours for the total purchase the next day. Since then I have had my GLI serviced by Orem Ken Garff VW and they have done a very good job. BUYER BEWARE! UNFAIR PRACTICES! I had financing approved with Ken Garff Downtown for a vehicle at Ken Garff Volkswagen dealership in Orem. The VW Sales Manager, Cory Fenton agreed to let me purchase the car after waiting 24hrs if it hadn't sold by 6pm from his lot. Then I was told I had to wait an additional 24 hrs to see if it sales. NOW I've been told by the VW General Sales Manager, Scott Cobb that I have wait yet another 24hrs to see if they sell it by 6pm on 4/22/20. I've been strung along with invested emotions. Why wasn't I told that I wouldn't be allowed to purchase the vehicle from the beginning and that they didn't want to release it from their lot. Leads me to wonder if there are any discriminatory factors involved. I believe this is a terrible way to do business as we are all suffering during this pandemic. read more

After a terrible experience with the SouthTowne VW dealership, the guys at Ken Garff VW completely restored my faith in salespeople, and I'll absolutely go back down and buy from them in the future. I saw a Tiguan S that I was interested in online, and Kai Hicken reached out to me with all the info, and was super helpful answering any questions I had. He set me up with an appointment for Saturday morning. I got there, and the car I was looking at was already pulled up front, ready to go. He took a look at my trade-in, and we got in the new car to take it for a test drive. He gave me every little bit of information I could ever want to know about the car! He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, personable, and gave me ZERO pressure. I fell in love with the car, so we went back and talked about the numbers. He went through every single warranty option, and extended warranties to make sure I knew exactly what each one covered, or didn't. The trade-in value they gave me was great, the price of the car was fantastic. SOLD!!!!!!!!!! I signed and drove my new car home, all in maybe an hour's time. Everyone was very friendly and caring. I was able to get the car I wanted and get a reasonable price for my trade-in. The only complaint I have was the time it took to finish the buying process. It took close to 3 hours to fill out all the paperwork, and quite a bit of that time was spent sitting and waiting. This place is a joke and either racist or just ignorant. I saw a car they had for sale verified it was available, received a sales contract and offered to put a 500$ deposit on the vehicle but was told I couldn't because there were other people taking 5 hours to decide on a purchase. (Obviously in-house financing so they could make more money off the deal probably). I had been talking to the sales rep for three days about this vehicle. I was told its first come first serve basis and basically who comes with the money first gets the vehicle. I have certified check in hand took the train from Layton to Orem so I can drive it briefed the insurance company of the information to let them know I purchased or not. Meet my fiancé some other couple was interested but wasting time on deciding and applying for again in house financing.. So they tell me I can't look at it.. I said why? I told them I'm going to look at what I'm interested in. after the test drive and looking over the vehicle I go in and they have us stand around for 10 minutes.. After I told them I have money already to go.. They want to tell me the other two are trying to finance it and unfortunately the banks are closed, I informed them again I was talking about this and came prepared that they refused to take my 500$ deposit and are wasting my time. The difference was, I had money other dude didn't, other than that I am brown and other dude is white.. So I ask him I have money now all you have to do is sign the paperwork and hand me the keys. He said sorry offered to pay for my fiancé's gas tank as if I can't. on the way home they call and tell me that the dude they wanted to sell to didn't get approved and that the vehicle is available if I want to come get it.. The manager's name is Taylor or some crap. Do not go to this place. read more

Roughy my car in for 2 tires. Came back home and my TPMS light was in the dash. Brought my car back and let them know the check engine light is on and I just had an oil change and scheduled maintenance done. Well, I just went to pick it up and asked if all the dash lights were off now. Was told they were. Started my car and the check engine light was still on. Bummed a ride from my mom and now I have to make another trip to pick it up because they wouldn't service my car right then. By the way I dropped my car off before 8am and it's 5:30pm now. I just recently brought my 2013 Tiguan in, and was diagnosed with a total of $3,950+tax, came out to around $4,190. The issue I brought it in for, happened again within 2 hours of my having my car back. The service manager tells me to drive it back in (I even asked if I should have it towed, since everyone online said to not try starting your car with the error code I got.) but, I drive it over anyways. This time, it's apparently something different than what I just had replaced, but just barely. They're also trying to charge me $2,050 for it. My car isn't even worth the cost of the repairs at this point. Unsurprisingly, the warranty for the $4,200 repair I just paid for, doesn't include this part. It also just so happened to fail 2 hours after I received my car, by pure coincidence and bad luck. The part just "wore out" right after the mechanics had it torn down and out back together I guess. I would stay far away from this service department unless you enjoy coming back so often. read more

UPDATE: So the car finally arrived on Thursday, 5 days after they said we should receive it. The car arrived with NO gas in the tank, it barely made it the half block to the nearest gas station. They only sent one key, no owners manuals, NO navigation discs. Once again MAJOR FAIL, I can not believe this company is in business. We still have not received our paperwork and we can't license the car in California without the title. And if we do not initiate the phone call forget about hearing from them. True disreputable car salesmen, the kind we make fun of in movies. Oh yeah, how can I forget it also has a coolant leak, OH JOY!! I know I know, I don't live in Utah, but thanks to the Internet we found the car we wanted at this dealership. As an accomplished Yelp er I did the right thing and checked them out. Ok, not too many reviews, but positive at least. We even have a personal friend that has shopped at this dealership so we felt safe conducting a transaction over the phone and Internet. WRONG WRONG WRONG Even though they have over 38,000 of our dollars we have yet to see the car. We were working with Bill (sales) and Ryan (sales manager). These two men should write fantasy novels because the bull they have smoked our way is ridiculous. We were told by Bill that if the money was wired on Friday, the car would be placed on the transportation truck on Friday and that we would possibly have the car on Saturday, but AT THE LATEST ON TUESDAY. So here we are on Wednesday and still no car. In the meantime, we have placed over 20 phone calls and no one would give us a straight answer. Today after calling Volkswagen and Audi of America and escalating the problem, we were finally told that the car was placed on transport YESTERDAY. Which means Bill LIED the entire time he was on the phone with us, the car was on their lot the entire time and he kept telling us, I don't know why your car isn't there yet, we can't get a hold of the transport driver. They refused to give us the transportation company's name and information. Today because I threatened them with a phone call to the police FINALLY Ryan started to fess up. This dealership is not honest, not professional and someone to never do business with, especially if you aren't in their face. We own a VW and an Audi currently and have owned MANY in the past. I really thought that they would treat us with the same professionalism I have come to recognize in these car makers, but I was greatly mistaken. Have you ever had that "trapped" feeling at a dealership where they just won't let you leave the lot? Its like a tag team wrestling match where you have to go a round with each level of management before you get the keys to your car back (that you unwittingly gave up so they could appraise if for the trade-in). These guys were not like that at all. I was surprised! I got the deal I was looking for on a TDI (great mileage BTW) and I was able to come and go, take time to think and weigh my options, and NEVER were the typical high pressure tactics used on me. I have to mention something else here that shocked and amazed me about the management team and philosophy here. I know every situation is different but in my case, because the car I purchased (color and options) was not on their lot and was en-route from the manufacturing plant, and because of some unexpected delays, I was given a demo vehicle to drive in the interim and with each delay was told to keep driving it until my car was delivered. It was comparable to the one I purchased and was waiting for. They treated me right before and after the sale and they deserve my 5 star rating! read more

Best experience with a Volkswagen dealership so far. (maybe that's because the repairs didn't cost me a cent haha). I received a recall notice for my vehicle and Ken Garff took pretty good care of me. I got there a couple minutes before my appointment and they were prompt to get me checked in. They listened to my concerns and were very good at explaining certain questions I had. I haven't received that before with other VW dealerships. I was a HUGE fan of the Starbucks and Coca-Cola machine;) I was bummed I didn't have time to stop at Swig on my way into the dealership, so they definitely made me one happy girl with the unlimited Diet Coke. Comfortable, convenient waiting room/workspace. Very open, lots of light, big TV, popcorn machine. I felt very taken care of as a customer and really appreciated the help I received. Unethical and misleading sales. I emailed back and forth with their salesman, Chad. We came to an agreed upon "out the door" price, I got it in writing and headed to the dealership. After the paperwork was all but complete, I noticed the price listed for financing matched what I was quoted, but I was then asked for a $1,000 down payment on top of that quoted price. We had already discussed putting $1,000 down, no problem there, but I was then told that the $1,000 down was not part of the "out the door" price. LOL. When I protested about this obviously unethical technique, I was told "down payments aren't always considered part of the 'out the door' price. After reaching out to people throughout the company, it became very obvious that no one cared. Save yourself some money and a lot of hassle and go to a different dealership. read more

I was really nervous to bring our car in after reading some of the reviews and was really up front when we brought the car in. Danni reassured us right from the start that they would be able to get this taken care of. She was right! Danni was amazing and was such a joy to work with! She kept us informed about the repairs and time frames. One of our parts was going to have to be ordered from Germany and it was going to take a week. Danni went above and beyond to get us a replacement part that same day and we were able to get the car the next morning. Very disappointing service. Came in to get the 60,000 mile maintenance done and was told that an oil change was included in the price. Afterwards I found out that it was not included in the price. Very frustrating and dishonest. I would have been nice to see what I was paying for BEFORE they went ahead and started working on the vehicle. Don't buy a car here. I bought one last year here and it was full off problems within a month I had to replace steering column and computer board in the car with less then 39k miles. When I went to trade it in to another store in the area they found SOMEONE ELSE'S CREDIT REPORT FULL SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!!! We found that individual and let him know. Nice guys, but I got my oil changed and tires rotated and it took them 2 hours!! Keep in mind it takes jiffy lube like 20 minutes. Then they didn't hook in the plastic undercarriage cover right so it fell off and was dragging, so I came back and said I had to hurry they said it would take them 30-45 minutes.. after 45 minutes I walk over and they hadn't even looked at my car! They say a person will share a good customer service experience with 5 people and a bad experience with 10. In my case it is more like 5 and 50. I have already shared my sister's bad experience at Ken Garff with more than 30 people (we attended 3 parties this past week). And I'm only getting started! My sister wanted to lease a new car and I joined her for moral support. Ken Garff had so many opportunities to make her a life-long customer but instead they nickel and dimed her to death and eventually leased her a 'used car' at a 'new car price'. Here's how it played out over the better part of a week: Ken Garff: Here is the price. My Sister: signs papers KG: Plus these additional fees. MS: signs papers KG: The color and package isn't here but we can have it for you tomorrow. MS: OK KG: The color and package you want has been driven at the other dealership and has 3,000 miles on it but you could pick a different color if you like. MS: I'd prefer the color and package I chose. KG: The windshield needs to be replaced, sit tight a few more days. MS: OK, I'm not feeling very good about waiting, the mileage and damage to the vehicle without any compensation. KG: OK, we will cover the monthly maintenance fee. MS: Arrives to collect the car. KG: We promised you we would cover the maintenance fee? No, just free oil changes. MS: Held her ground and got the monthly maintenance fee covered and left. Arrived home and then noticed the "new" vehicle had 4000 miles (not 3000) on it and the gas tank was on empty! MS: Called back to complain that the 3000 miles she was told about was actually 4000 and is basically a "used car". KG: No, it was never registered, so it isn't a used car. Bring it back in and we'll fill up the tank. We all know it is a win/lose experience at a dealership - the buyer just hopes to get through the experience as quickly as possible without losing too much in the deal. Was dreading buying a car, dreading! Went to several dealerships, test drove lots of vehicles. This dealership was so different from the others! We came in knowing the car we wanted to test drive, it happened to be sold by the time we got there. So the salesman found the same model car at a very similar price for us to try. He just let us drive it, he didn't try to sell us on anything for real! He told us some features, but was really laid back. We found out that the salesmen at this dealership make no more money on a less expensive car than a top of the line model. We then left and went home to think about it. After a couple days we decided to purchase the car. We completed the payment calculator and financing online, 15 minutes only! We got a call the next day saying we'd been approved. We still had some questions and requests. Our same salesman (Jared Priebe) answered every question thoroughly and truthfully, crazy when buying a car! If he didn't have the answer he called me back when he had it. All this was done at my convenience over the phone. By the time we showed up to sign the paperwork we were only at the dealership for 30 minutes! Everything was up front, laid out and the exact terms we had agreed to over the phone. NO SURPRISES! So I brought my car because of a couple of recalls I found out it had. I bought my Audi A4 at that dealership in 08. They have had my phone number and email address all along, I even get sporadic emails about offers, but never bothered to inform me a out the recalls. I took my car in this morning 10/05/12 to fix the issues stated on a recall. I left my car, picked it up a few hours later, and after starting it, I noticed it now has the check engine light on. After pointing out the fact that my car didn't have the check engine light on when I dropped it off to the technicians, they just said there were some codes stored, and that they don't always show. They now want to charge $350 for the part plus 2 to 3 hours of labor for an issue that didn't show before they fixed it. I suppose I will be taking my business somewhere else or else when I take it there next time, and fix whatever issue it has, I will be leaving with another one. Save your money people, and go somewhere else where they're honest. read more

I was stuck at 3.5 stars.. Let me explain my stance.. I bought two cars from them in the last year. My first experience was amazing. I got a 3 year old certified TDI for one amazing price.. The second I traded in my certified TDI for a brand new one. You might say I got the diesel bug. the store is clean, the salesmen are courteous, the service desk are always willing to help in anyway. I once had a rear light go out on my certified TDI, and they put in a new one free of charge. So why the 3 stars? It's a dealership.. You know once you go in, they will and it is their job to get every little penny out of you. They will give you great service. They will help you out and they do know they have a great product. The trick that I fell for is this: I had the money and was going to pay cash for the first car. They explained that if you go through financing they get a kick back if a thousand or so dollars and if you finance at least 90% (I don't recall the percentage amount, but it is the majority of it) then they will pass that kickback on to you. The only thing you promise is that you will keep that loan for at least six months. Gentleman's handshake. Sounds great right? I was going to pay cash so no big deal. We get to the signing part and I felt it was funny they didn't mention what my interest rate was going to be.. Competitive auto loans at credit unions in the surrounding area at that time was 2.99%. When they placed the paperwork in front of me my rate was a 5.9 ( or was it a 5.5% rate?) ether way, very high! My first payment I paid the majority of the loan off so it didn't hurt me, but I feel they could have been more upfront on what they were doing. As most people this would be very upsetting. I held the loan for six months (Gentleman's handshake remember?). Overall my experience was very pleasant. But when dealing with lots of money, I feel that both parties should walk away happy. I continue to get my car serviced there. They are very informative and even gave me some great suggestions such as not putting a K & N filter in a diesel car.. It could have been an ugly mistake! Would I go here again? I have twice now. But as in any transaction, ask questions. Second guess the numbers, and if you feel shorted.. Walk away or ask to speak to someone else.. They genuinely want to sell a car and you want to buy one if you are there. And yes.. I love my car. Great MPG! read more

Took in my 2004 VW Touareg with a burnt out brake light. However, the dealership replaced it with the wrong bulb. I took it back in for them to replace and they told me that there was a crack in the timing belt and the brakes were worn down. Their quote for the work was several thousand dollars. The timing belt had just been replaced by another shop and was under warranty, so I took the car back to that shop and the timing belt/brakes happen to be in perfect condition.
