Dusty doors everywhere. This was the door to our bathroom.

We were at this location 20 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were there a couple of weeks ago and it has gone so far downhill. Please note that cabins do not have any air conditioning or Wi-Fi. Air conditioning is opening the windows and running the ceiling fan. There is no option to have a small refrigerator in your room and I am diabetic and insulin needs to be refrigerated! I wound up buying a very small cooler and using ice. Our cabin had definitely seen better days. Please look at my photos. No one had dusted in this room in a very long time. Every door was covered in dust. The headboard of the bed was covered in dust. The seats of every chair or sofa in our room or filthy. We refused to sit down. Basically, we laid on the bed the entire time we were in our room, since none of the furnishings were clean.

Their restaurant was not up to par for breakfast. Their buffet ran out of just about everything and I currently have been waiting 20 minutes for them to refill the Buffet. Not a good experience and would not recommend this place for breakfast. Update: They comped our meal.

Rooms are great - spacious and comfortable bedding. Fireplace. Nice gift shop. Friendly staff. Great bartender. Beautiful walks and views along the river. Property is spotless. Fitness center has cardio machines only. Outdoor hot tub was out of service, with no plans for repair in site. Don't bother with the food.

Entrance to the Dining Room and the Bar and its great outdoor patio.

After a morning to afternoon hike of some short scenic trails along Skilak Lake Rd in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, a friend showed me the way to this lodge and its bar/dining patio overlooking a vista of the Cooper and Russian Mountains and the Kenai River. A great place to have a mid-afternoon lunch with wine and beer on a sunny day! I would never have found this place along the north side of the Kenai River on my own. We shared a large Caesar Salad and Fish and Chips; with draft Alaskan Amber Ale and Clos Du Bois Chardonnay. After a refreshing meal, we took a pleasant walk around the nicely landscaped grounds of this lodge and cabins. It's understandable, but too bad, that this lodge closes for the season by September 15. The dining menu prices looked to me to be average for this part of Alaska. The bar menu had some different items that were appropriately priced for lunch time.

It might be the best chai I've ever had, which says a lot. On the return trip we stopped again and I got a piece of strawberry-rhubarb pie that was delicious. The service was good and quick, and the staff was friendly. The decor is comfy and cozy. There is a lovely patio with a view of the lake; I would have sat there longer but it was chilly and the metal chairs were a bit cold on my behind.

Over the years, there have been changes, but the dining room for the most part remains the same. Big light and airy space, with massive picture windows looking out over Summit Lake, and it's a beautiful view. There's a cosy seating area right at the entrance with comfy couches to relax on. If you can get a window seat, it's well worth it. Swallows swerve by the window with mere inches to spare, catching insects on the wing, it's quite a sight while you wait for your food. It has a rustic, log cabin Alaskan feel, but the napkins are fabric, the glassware is nice, and servers are in uniform. The menu is hard backed so it feels sophisticated. I ordered coconut shrimp from the appetizers menu, which came with some kind of special dipping sauce, and I got some French fries on the side. Husband ordered the Garbage Grinder burger and a salad. The shrimp were ok, nothing special, the dipping sauce was based on orange marmalade - I didn't enjoy that at all. The fries were ok. His Garbage Grinder burger was insurmountable in the state it is presented, there is no way a normal person can fit that in their mouth. It must be 6/7 inches high. He had to remove some items to make it thin enough to get it in. Whilst I was eating, a couple were seated on the table behind us. I didn't think my chair was sticking out that far, but this woman, when being seated, kept whacking her chair into mine, forcing me to push my chair in really tightly, which I thought it was rude and inconsiderate, as a normal person would say "excuse me, could you pull your hair in a little" but she just kept battering my chair with hers until I moved. We were obviously in very close proximity, and I heard them say they were tourists, from out of state and had just got married, and would they comp the meal? This was prior to even ordering, and not because anything was wrong with the meal, just merely because they had a strong sense of rude entitlement. You got married, why are you entitled to a free dinner? It was irritating. But obviously not the fault of Summit Lake Lodge. Anyway the server promised to ask her manager. (Who refused to comp the meal, but did offer a discount) Anyway, it's a beautiful place, in a beautiful location, you're paying for an experience, not just the food - which is slightly above average. The service is impeccable, the views are stunning, and an influencer's dream. The menu used to have a lot more items on it, simpler things - I had my first ever Reuben here years ago and it was amazing, but you can't get it anymore. It seems to change annually. Anyway, it's definitely worth stopping in.

We found it online and just went with it because the prices and availability were right. Turns out I think we stayed in one of the better hotels/inns/B&B's in Cooper Landing. The quality of service and the price are just impossible to beat. Our room was one the comfiest, cleanest, and homiest room that I've ever stayed in. They have a variety of room sizes available (2 twins, queen, king, cabin, etc). From what I saw each room has a bathroom with a stand up shower. The sinks are right outside of the bathrooms in the rooms. The rooms have fans and opening windows. They also have soaps, towels, tissues, and lotion in the room. Our room had a room on each side of it and a room under us and we never hardly heard other guests. It is really quiet and peaceful. You can clean towels daily when your room is cleaned if you want or you can keep using the same one. They also clean the sheets half way through the week. The continental breakfast was nice with a lot of options (bagels, english muffins, muffins, boiled eggs, oatmeals packets, yogurt, apples, bananas, oranges, fruit cups, toast, coffee, juices, cereal, etc.). They also have movies you can borrow in the lobby. In the common rooms (1 common room for each ~3 room) there is a couch, mini fridge, TV with dvd player, plasticware and paper towels, and coffee pot. We used this area and never had issues with other guests. Outside they have a covered grilling area with grilling tools, foils, basic seasonings, tables and chairs, paper towels, and a fire pit. They have a fire every night. We used the grilling area to grill up fish that we caught. We saw other guests using the area pretty frequently as well. George and Shirley are really nice and helpful. If you need anything ask them. If they have it they will help you out. I had a few special requests and they were more than happy to work with the requests. Other items available: pay washer and dryer, parking, outdoor seating on every floor, wireless internet (no movie streaming), ice, cold drinks for purchase, ground floor rooms that are somewhat handicap accessible, microwave in the office area. If I ever come to Cooper Landing again I will stay here again. I saw nothing else in town that beats what George and Shirley have set up. We also met numerous returning guests while we were staying here.

Family sized body wash, shampoo & moisturizer instead of small, travel sized bottles. Please use and leave for the next guest. The bed was comfortable bed but smelled strongly of fabric softener. I suggested to the owner that she switch to unscented detergent & dryer sheets for sensitive guests. She'd never thought about that and said she'd change. I enjoyed looking at the tall spruce trees outside the 2nd floor window. Mountains soar from the front and back yards. It's a beautiful location. My room was decorated with a picture of the Portland (Maine) Head light made from puzzle on wall. The building has a community lounge with TV & movies. No in-room television. It felt more like a motel than a Bed and Breakfast. Less personal, less intimate. Breakfast as in a Best Western - self-serve bowls of HB eggs, bagels & packets of cream cheese, small boxes of cereals, bowl of bananas, apples; etc - a few muffins. Nothing homemade. If I'm in the area again, I'd probably stay there again. It is was a good value for the price and especially for Alaska. $85. Visa & Master Card only. No American Express.
