Really nice place for breakfast. A little dining like setting where you can sit at the counter or at the table either indoor and outdoor. Great selection of regular breakfast items and also of a Mexican twist of breakfast entrees. We had the big plate breakfast with 2 eggs, bacons, sausages, ham, hash browns and pancakes. This is a huge plate, the two of us just barely finished it. The back was very crispy and I have asked for the hash brown to be extra crispy and it was done to the exact request. Went to Ocotillo Wells this past weekend for some ATVing and had to charge the car across the street at the library. The charging took forever so the gf and I walk across the street to the small mall and found this gem! They close after lunch so had to wait a bit before they opened at 5:00pm for dinner on Saturday. Instantly fell in love with the place as it gives all the old-school diner vibes. The menu is pretty large as they do breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. Decided to share an order of mozzarella sticks and the fish and chips. Great sized portions and both tasted great! Would definitely get both again. Our waitress also easily convinced me to get a slice of their apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and it was perfect. There was only one waitress working the dining room while we were there and she was on it; checked up on us, refilled our waters constantly, and was overall really nice. Caught her name was Maddy as she talked to other guests so know you're in good hands if she's around. Definitely recommend this spot if you're in the area and want that awesome diner vibe with great service! read more

Visited 10/20/2023 I'm Happy to Say They are Open Once Again for Dinners Wednesday through Saturdays. And Yes The AYCE Fish & Chips is Back better than ever. They start you off with a cup of their very tasty Clam Chowder or a Fresh Salad and a slice of fresh baked Corn Bread. The French Fries are perfectly fried and the House Beer Battered Cod has amazing flavor. Excellent service with a Friendly Smiling staff. They constantly check in with you asking if you want more piping hot Fish until you are stuffed to the brim. The pieces of fish aren't the largest but each bite leaves your taste buds begging for another bite. They will keep your plate full till you can't eat another piece but wish that you could. I for one am a happy camper Kendall's Cafe is once again giving all us locals and out of town visitors another option for a Tasty Dinner. Give them a try sometime. I sure enjoyed dinner Friday Night. Friend and I visited Borrego Springs this past week and since the place we were staying at (La Casa del Zorro) didn't serve breakfast on weekdays, we looked around town for a place to grab food before we headed on our long trip back home. Apparently in the Summer, a bunch of restaurants/shops close due to the heat and reduced visitor volume. Luckily, Kendall's was open and was a nice welcome sight in the otherwise hot, desert environment. We were greeted as soon as we walked in - one of the waitresses even cheerfully said "glad you found us and could make it" - since she recognized my voice when I called for directions. They are tucked inside "The Mall" - and accessible only from the interior center of the plaza, rather than from the outside. Just park anywhere near Borrego Outfitters. I have a thing where I always order buttermilk pancakes when I'm traveling - since it's a favorite breakfast item of mine, and I'm always curious if I can tell whether a place uses mix or from scratch. So of course I ordered the buttermilk pancake breakfast with two eggs and choice of protein. I couldn't decide between sausage patty, links or bacon - so I asked the friendly waitress to "choose for me" - and she firmly responded "No." LOL. Anyway, I opted for the sausage links and friend ordered the Eggs Benedict. My friend started cracking up as soon as she walked away with our orders. I imagine it's prob because other guests have asked for suggestions and maybe didn't like what they ended up with - I honestly couldn't decide between sausage patty or links - so wouldn't have minded either way. The food was great. I couldn't tell if the pancakes were made from scratch or from a mix - I imagine being in a smaller desert town, you'd think everything was made from scratch - but it was still very good. The sausage links were great, the eggs were perfectly cooked - friend loved his eggs benedict. Service was prompt and the other waitress (that didn't take our order) kept refilling my friend's water cup, as well as asked if I wanted a refill on my soda. Clean restrooms, and plenty of seating throughout the cafe. Overall - great place for breakfast/lunch (they close at 1 or 2pm - so dinner is not an option here). Decided to leave San Diego at 6am and beeline to the desert for some breakfast. Operating hours at Kendall's made it ideal for a quick bite, some photo opportunities afterwards, and then head back home. My first time here, and once we placed our food order- our plates arrived shortly afterwards. It's a real chill vibe inside. Casual setting w/ a few 2 tops, 4 tops, and counter service. Lighting is a bit dim... and chatter is plenty. Servers are continuously checking on tables for coffee refills and asking if we're okay. I got the #3 breakfast plate with a side of sausage patty. Portions are exactly what I needed them to be because I didn't have space to haul leftovers on my motorcycle nor did I wanna waste food or leave with a super full belly. This place is a nice cafe tucked away in a small shopping mall. We heard their breakfast were amazing but they stopped serving breakfast at 11:30a. Oh well. Lots of delicious looking items on the lunch. A bunch of people got the chilli and it looked fantastic! I ended up going for the Kendall club. Its a triple stacker of ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato. Oh gosh was it good. I ended up going for the toasted white bread and added avacado. I also got the curly fries option. All of which were great additions! I visit Kendall's every time I'm closing out an Anza Borrego camping trip on my way back to LA. I usually get the two egg breakfast with hash browns. This diner is consistently so welcoming and cheery and delicious. Everything is done right. The coffee? Hot and ready to roll. The eggs? Perfectly yolky. Pancakes? Toast? Perfect dollops of butter. The staff is always friendly, the food quality is high, and service is pretty quick. It gets busy by 10 on weekends, so make sure you plan accordingly. I live in LA and I would drive to Borrego Springs just to eat here! The refried beans are made with magic and love, the masa in the tamale would make any Hispanic grandmother proud, and the tostada was simply perfect! One waitress, Mattie, for the entire restaurant but she made it seem like we were the only people there. Service was quick and friendly, and nothing was forgotten. The menu has something for everyone, not just Mexican food. If you are vegan/vegetarian they will make food substitutions if requested. I was in Borrego this past week for Fourth of July, I've been to Borrego a number of times but this was the first time I'd been to this cafe. The food was so amazing. I got the Huevos Rancheros. Although it reminded me more of Shakshouka it was still phenomenal. It had a nice punch to it and I like my food spicy. The server was such a sweet dear woman, and the ambiance was really nice too. I will definitely be back here next time I come to Borrego Springs. The location makes it so ideal to grab a bite in the morning and head nearby for a hike and/or shopping as it's located in "The Mall". It's one of the great restaurants among this city. This small quiet town in the middle of nowhere has my heart. However, the summers feel particularly special. read more

Yelp exists for businesses like Kendall's Cafe. A diamond in the rough of Anza Borrego--and straight outta the show Schitt's Creek (a version of Cafe Tropical)!! Rarely do I venture to the same business twice, especially within the same week, but this was the case while in Borrego Springs. My husband and I would have quickly became "regulars" if we didn't live 5 hours away. Everyone was so darn friendly in this family-owned, small town Mexican-American diner. The staffs works as a wonderful team and well-oiled machine. Several of the staff members have worked hard day in and day out here for years. For instance, the gal at the counter runs a tight ship making sure the toast doesn't get under or over cooked. One out-of-town visitor was 'wowed' by the perfection of his omelette since everywhere he had traveled was overdone. The employee was sure to pass on this positive review to the chefs in the kitchen. Funny enough, I believe I happened upon a Yelp review he wrote from 2/19/22 by Robert P. Then we ran into one of the employee's the following evening at the local watering hole Carlee's. It's that kinda small time vibe! Kendall's is classic diner. Coffees and waters keep being poured. Food order tickets continue to be written. Chef and sous chef cook non-stop with their professional hats and uniform respectfully distinguishing them from the rest. I like my breakfast staples, and they got just that. However, Kendall's Supreme (eggs benedict doused with jalapeño cheese sauce) and Machaca (dried beef in a scramble) are not to be missed! I fell in LOVE with the Kendall's cafe logo t-shirts that they unfortunately don't sell to the public. I was willing to buy one off the employees back :X. Was doing a morning shoot in the desert and wanted to grab a nice breakfast. The menu is good, coffee is GREAT. Very few places where I can drink the coffee straight black and still come back for more...4 cups later.... Got to sit on the patio this morning, and it was great. Nice atmosphere before the heat started rising and the flying audiences started to show up. Both of us got Kendell's Big Breakfast, mine with Blueberry pancakes instead, and OMG, some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Good pricing, great value. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND ps. learned that KC has been open for about 30 years, and is one of the few places that stays open during the summer off-season. 5 stars for the super nice staff. I called to check if their was a wait for breakfast and they said no and reserved a table for us. When we got there, they were very nice and courteous. Service was great. Our coffee cups were topped off regularly and food came out in a timely manner. The food was pretty good. The sausage links are a bit sweet, which I liked. Blueberry pancakes were delicious. Bacon was good (I ordered it extra crispy). The only disappointment was the biscuits and gravy (gravy not creamy enough). Prices were reasonable.
