On top of that, I always offer the employees if they want a drink or something that I'm always willing to buy for them nearby. I also always provide a generous tip to my wonderful hairstylist, Shelly & the other person who assists with washing & conditioning my hair. Back in October 2024, I received multiple text notifications from KolorBar mentioning a 20% discount off balayage or highlights. When I called to schedule my yearly visit to get the services that I usually get, the receptionist who picked up the phone set up an appointment for me. The receptionist also mentioned the 20% discount to me herself. I informed her that I'm not a new client & that I've been getting services here for a few years. She told me that she was aware & the discount applies for all customers. When I spoke with my hairstylist to get a quote for all of the services I intended to get done, she gave me the total & also mentioned to me about the 20% discount that KolorBar was offering during the month of October. Mind you, I never mentioned the 20% off to anyone. Their own employees were the ones to mention the discount to me so of course I agreed to take advantage of it because this hair salon increases their prices every few months it seems. I called the hair salon to reschedule my appointment since an emergency came up. I asked to speak with Melodi since she knows me well. She's one of the managers of the hair salon. When Melodi got on the phone, she informed me that the 20% off discount is only for new customers. How is the promotional offer of 20% off only for new customers when the multiple text notifications I received mentioned nothing about it only being for new customers? How come the receptionist never mentioned to me that the 20% off only applied to new customers when I myself informed her that I'm a returning customer? On top of that, Shelly who is my hairstylist also mentioned the 20% off discount to me herself knowing that I'm a long time customer? When I explained this to Melodi, she made the excuse that their texts had "accidentally" sent that when it was only intended for new clients. She also said that the receptionist who answered the phone was new & only there temporarily. Melodi seems to have an excuse for everything. But she forgot to give an excuse for Shelly mentioning the discount to me. Then, Melodi indicated that I have "a lot of hair that's really coarse & thick" so it made me realize that they were purposely targeting me. They basically were intentionally not trying to offer me the 20% discount just because of my hair's texture. They basically discriminate & try to take advantage of clients who have long hair that's coarse & thick. How ridiculous is that. I requested to speak to the owner multiple times & nobody ever got back to me. There's two owners to this hair salon & I asked to speak to either one directly because I wanted to file a complaint. What they did is not right. Little do they know that I got many businesses shut down & this business could easily be next if I want to do the same. Don't play with me & definitely do NOT try me because I ain't the one. I know for a fact you guys don't get clients like myself often; the ones who offer drinks & food, along with providing a generous tip to the hairstylist & assistant. Disgusting establishment with unprofessional employees (Melodi). The fact that you guys treat your most loyal & sweetest client like this is truly disappointing. I have treated everyone with the utmost respect. P.S. You can report my review all you want. I will keep reposting it. If you'd like, I can also have other family members & friends who I have referred to you guys, leave the same rating for your business. Every time I ask her to do something, she will talk me through the process and go over prices before we get started. Angela always makes me feel good about my hair. She did a base color, bayalage, and a treatment with haircut. Look at all the foils she used! I have a lot of hair but it's very fine. She always makes sure my hair is taken care of so there is no damage. When I was getting my hair rinsed, Angela ran out and got me a birthday cake. How many of you can say your hairdresser would do that for you? It's those little things that make me keep coming back to see her. She is an excellent hair dresser and she is the most kind and caring person I have met in a long time. Go see her for your we fall look. Hey, so this is how I looked when I went into this hair salon; I had natural hair color, and I had…read morekinky hair texture, which had been de-tangled and flat ironed 2 days before. But, it was frizzy in front. That is how I walked into the salon yesterday. When I initially asked the price for a cut and color-I told them that I wanted to go blonde and that I wanted to cut my ends- I was told $119 because I have "pelo de negra" which translates to black woman hair. To all the Dominican workers, my hair was too coarse so I would have to pay more; this assessment was based off her looking at my bun. As you can see I did not have coarse hair because I had de-tangled my hair and flat ironed the kinks away 2 days prior. There was no pulling nor deep concentration, because my hair was de-tangled. They did my hair...the stylist convinced me to "lighten" my brows, which are way lighter than I thought they'd be. She put dye first, wiped it off, signaled as if it were a freebie, and bleached my brows. No special product was put in my hair. Some Mielle conditioner or cream and a serum so my hair wouldn't be frizzy. The stylist apologized before cutting my hair this short because my hair was uneven (I cut it 1 inch during the pandemic). She cut off no more than 3 inches. I asked for a "doobie" or a wrap. She grabbed a new hair net ($1.99-2.99 in most beauty supply stores) and charged me $10 for it. When my hair was finished I was told the bill was $190! I asked how come and was told oh because it was $170 and you .... I didn't get a clear explanation as to the change in price. Then I was told there would be a card fee. It was a $5 charge! I was charged from $119 then to $195 and change. It's possible I could have misheard, but I'm not sure how someone can mishear $119 from $170. Moreover, I'm not sure how $190 comes from $170+$10+card charge. If the brow lightening was not a freebie, then I should have been warned. I did not tip. I felt as though I was over charged. As crazy as it sounds, it's not a no on whether I would return. I'll try the stylist on the next block before deciding which to return to. Maybe I'll give another chance and observe if it's just me they've duped, or if it's all of the non fluent Spanish speakers. I will say, I've never bleached my hair before and it looks good to me. It's what I was going for which is why 3 stars are here.

Sometimes she will suggest treatments for your hair like Botox or keratin, but it never feels forced or obligatory. All of the women are very nice and I always feel welcome. My only complaint about the salon is that they do have high turnover for hair washers and there is only one. Usually there isn't too much of a wait but on busy days, it can get backed up with just one person. Their current hair washer, Carolina, is really good. Today, I asked them to apply my hair dye that I brought from my house, because I have a wedding tomorrow and didn't wanna tint my hands. They charged me $70 to just apply the color, no blow dry, no rollers. The person just applied the color that I bought and brought to the salon. Their excuse is that I have a lot of hair (I don't) I wish that was true. This whole process took the most, an hr and a half. I would like to emphasize that again I brought my own color. When I asked her how much it would be with the blow dry she said $85. So the blow dry will be $15. Again I brought my own color, there was no blow dry, no rollers, I left with my hair wet and she looked at me in the face and said $70. Plus I tipped everyone who touched my hair. Safe to say I will not be making this go to salon. I feel like she pulled the $70 number out her ass. If she would've said like $50 ok... but they won't see me again. Everyone that touched my head seemed nice, but it's not worth this price. I legit spend $100 for an hr and half, no styling and I brought my own hair color. These are downtown prices.
