Horrible person to speak at the front desk. Will not be continuing with them solely because of this. She is rude, unhelpful, and lazy. Does not bother to do anything besides talk back on the phone and does not provide help on how to schedule an appointment. Regardless of how the doctor is, someone else needs to be put in place on the front desk or she needs to be trained again. I just had the most ridiculous, offputting experience with the front desk person (I believe her name was Trina) and I'm clearly not the only one who had a terrible experience with the staff (see other reviews from Tim D., Jillian U., Michelle L.). I called to get an appointment and was told I need a referral from my primary care doctor. I got one and called back. She said that's not how it works and the doctor needs to send it directly, so I asked for their Fax number so he could. This is the common method for referrals, but it set her off like crazy. She began berating me for not knowing her office rules and said the doctor has to call or email. I then asked for the email so I could tell my primary care doctor. She again berated me for not knowing how it works, continually interrupted me, said that we're going in circles, and that she should have "hung up on me a long time ago", and that this was "clearly not the right office" for me to make an appointment. This is the most terrible experience I've had in healthcare, hands down. She needs to be fired. read more

Dr. Miller has been my dermatologist for 30+ years. He has told to me by other Physicians as the best diagnosticians in the valley and I believe it. A few years back, I had some skin tab like thing that would turn red and grow then in about a month, return to just red skin under my nose. I went to see Dr. Miller who inspected it and I told him the story of it getting larger and smaller over the years. I told him that I was concerned about cancer. So, I asked him to take a biopsy. 2 days later he called me and made an appt with a top rated Mose surgeon to handle the problem. I did and I was glad as the surgeon (Dr. Mark Mehrany) who did a great job. His office is different than other offices and Dr. Miller has a very dry sense of humor, which he uses often. I do the same to him and it's always a great experience. I would be dead or nose-less if not for Dr. Miller. read more

When I called to make an appointment, the person that answered the phone, was very rude condescending, was not interested in helping me. Refused to call my PCP to help me. Use condescending apologies like " I'm sorry you feel that way." she said " I'm sorry you're confused" . Horrible horrible personality. Dr Miller is simply THE best dermatologist you will ever be lucky enough to see. I tried a few other dermatologists early on (only because I haven't lived in Los Gatos for over 35 years), but it only took 1-2 visits with the others to realize traveling back to see Dr Miller was worth every mile. From early to adult acne to age spots, he has always come through with a solution that is gentle yet very effective for my sensitive skin. I admire that he stays well informed in his field and is not afraid to suggest cutting edge remedies, or if still effective, to stick with what's worked over the years. read more

I tried calling to have a skin lesion looked at. We were getting ready to go out of town for the holiday and so I was calling dermatologists in the area to see who could get me in asap. The receptionist was incredibly rude and refused to even look up potential appointment dates since she didn't have a physical referral in hand. I tried to explain to her I have a PPO plan, which does not require a referral and that their information was on my insurance website and I was mainly calling to get in to the soonest available doctor. She kept interrupting me. Not a very good impression to give a patient. I have a PPO that does not require a referral, and the girl would not listen to me. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Miller for around 9 years? 10? He has pages and pages on me, for all my visits! He always knows the answer when it comes to skin! Whenever I need to make an appointment, I get it right away, within a day usually. When I go in to see him, I wait no longer than 5 - 10 min. He often seems in a rush, but will sit me down and talk me through everything, even when I have a million questions. Sometimes he gives me stuff for free if he already has it in office, sprays, lotions, whatever! It's great :) He has been in a bad mood a few times when I have seen him, I think it was because he was mad at his staff (they were temp's or something). Basically I think he is a perfect derm. I went in for a second opinion on psoriasis, which was eventually confirmed. I told Dr Miller my scalp was itching profusely with scaling. He replied "all heads itch!l. He prescribed Vaseline and made some wierd comments about female dermatologists. Very odd. Needless to say my symptoms got worse. At one time he suggested I was hypochondriacal for complaining that my head itched yet I showed him pictures of the irritation areas. I got a third opinion and was prescribed fluocinoline which is a topographical oil applied at night. It's worked very well and my symptoms subsided. Dr Miller spent much of the visit discussing his intelligence and self proclaimed photographic memory. He's got narcissistic tendencies and treated his staff poorly in front of me his patient. read more

What a disappointment! I originally went to Dr. Miller because I was told by his staff that he could provide me with Xtrac phototherapy. At my first appointment, 4 months ago, I filled out the necessary paperwork for insurance approval, etc. While waiting for insurance approval I did standard uv light therapy and used the same ointments I've been using for months with no improvement. A week ago I asked the staff when they could schedule me with the nurse who does the Xtrac treatments. They scheduled a tentative appointment and I waited for confirmation. I never received it so I called the office to ask if my appointment was still on and the receptionist said it was. I called back again to confirm that the appointment was specifically for Xtrac. She confirmed that it was. After driving 45 mins. I arrived only to find out that the paperwork I filled out months ago hadn't been submitted and I couldn't have the treatment. Seriously???!!! It gets better.....The receptionist called me into a private office to give me her lame excuses for what happened and in the background I overheard Dr. Miller shouting, "I'm not doing Xtrac treatments anymore." I looked at the receptionist and said, "I need to leave." I was clearly upset and needed to exit before saying something I would later regret. I have never experienced such a blatant lack of consideration from a medical office. The staff is fully aware of the distance I have to drive to their office. They are also fully aware of the fact that my time is extremely limited because I'm helping to care for a parent on Hospice. Unless you have endless amounts of time and patience I advise that steer clear of this office. read more

My 4 y/o daughter cries frequently because her feet itch and it has taken more than a month to get insurance authorization. Now we are approved for Dr. miller and due to miscommunication (I thought was my fault) we missed a 9 AM appt and showed up at 4 PM. We rescheduled, in person, and repeated the schedule to my daughter in front of the blonde nurse who wrote down the appt for a week later. It is now 6 days later and Dr. miller is canceling my visit TOMORROW because we missed an appt 4 days ago?!!! I'm starting to think the original miscommunication wasn't my fault either. I had the same experience of office staff interrupting me and not listening and repeating what they previously said when they did listen. read more

I never normally see doctors at all but I have had irritated skin for about 6 months. I have tried different washing powders, moisturizers. My family doctor had prescribed steroid creams and antibiotics. Went to see Dr Miller. My first impression on seeing the office was not good, the building isn't new. Receptionists were nice but super busy. I was early for my appointment and they actually saw me early! I haven't ever had that unless an earlier patent hasn't arrived. Dr Miller listened and asked a lot of questions. He really took the time to look at my skin and made a diagnosis. He wasn't rushed at all and took extra time to answer my questions carefully and throughly. Not the place to go if you want the latest cosmetic treatment, a flashy office or up to date magazines. My dad and I have gone here for years but the new women working the front desk are unbelievable. I work I client service and if I treated my clients this way, I would be out of clients. After being told I was wrong about not being told about method of co/pay (who the heck doesn't take CC or debit these days) I then continued to get flippant remarks about the form I filled out. Unreal!! I literally walked out. Read the other reviews (doctor is fine, receptions are a trainwreck) and avoid this place like the plague!!!! Costly mistake! I made an appointment after confirming with the front desk staff that they would take my insurance. I took the afternoon off for the appointment only to find out that they take my insurance only as secondary but not as primary insurance. I was told that I would be responsible for the first $400. Had I been informed properly, I could have gone to a physician who takes my insurance as primary insurance. Since I am self employed the afternoon off is pretty costly to me. I would not have made enough this afternoon to pay for the portion I am responsible for. Hence it still made fiscal sense to cancel my appointment. I realize that this is a front desk issue rather than one of providing medical care. However, since physicians employ their office staff, issues at this level are ultimately a leadership issue. read more

I saw Dr. Miller twice about 4 years ago. He was attentive and answered my questions. He seems a little odd and "out there", but he got the job done, and his office didn't have me standing at the counter trying to sell me a bunch of products that I didn't need (like facial cleansers, lotions, etc.) I really appreciate the fact that he is an "old school" dermatologist who isn't trying to make money off of me. I had a problem, and he fixed it! I hate it when I feel like a dollar sign! Come here if you want a problem taken care of. AWFUL!!! This doctor is listed as a PPO, In-Network Provider for Anthem Blue Cross. I called to make an appointment and was told I MUST have a referral from my general practitioner. I stated that Kenneth Miller is listed as a provider in a PPO network thus eliminating a required referral. I then stated that the process of getting a referral is unfair to my pocket book and also to my GP as she does not get reimbursed for her admin taking the time to fill out the form and send the fax. Kenneth Miller's admin agreed but I did not get an appointment. I was told I could request a call back to discuss this but his call back list is very long..... Ridiculous...in my opinion this is exactly the kind of doctor to avoid. The one who rather than honoring the rules of the insurance he accepts and gets paid by, he makes his own rules. The doctor who is more interested in perpetuating the gluttony of medical billing practices and expensive paperwork bureaucracy instead of treating the patient. This man is a sage. A guru of skin. Old-school. None of this skin-peel, laser therapy, snake oil/facial cream salesman dermatology. He's successfully diagnosed and treated every skin problem I've ever had in the past 10 years. He's also rightfully dismissed my teenage anxiety about having severe "acne" when all it was were a few oily zits. His dry humor makes every visit amusing, but is definitely not for the easily offended. I don't know what I'm going to do when he retires. Hoping he has a protege. read more

As with an earlier post, this isn't technically a review because I couldn't get in to see Dr. Miller. I called last Thursday for an appt. because he is a friend's dermo and came highly recommended. The recorded message by one of the office staff was less than professional, but I went ahead and left my info. Today, a week later, since no one had called me back, I called the office again. The monotone-voice girl who answered the phone said that unless you were referred by another dermo or have psoriasis, he's not taking new patients. I asked if he could offer a referral to another dr. in that case - I have a mole on my shoulder that is problematic and needs to be looked at - and she said, "No, he's not doing that." Just based on my interaction (such as it's been) with his office staff, don't think I'd go to him anyway, and I really don't appreciate being dismissed in that way. Just hoping my mole isn't cancerous and that I can find a good dr, who will see me! read more

Met him 3 times Twice for myself and the 3rd time was with my mother for her skin problems Dr. Miller is a very sweet man don't get me wrong but every time I visit his office, he rushes me out the door within 5-10minutes. I've noticed he interrupts me while I explain to him what my skin problems are and quickly writes me a prescription and leaves the room. Exact words, "if you're not happy, just come back" Umm..I want to leave a medical office confident and secure knowing that I don't need to come back since I came into his office trusting his expertise.. really now? come back if i'm not happy. Dr. Miller is the epitome of a superb and classic doctor. He's been in the practice for many decades, and I fear he's going to be retiring soon (this is just a hunch, but for my sake I hope it's not true). I first visited him when I was about 13 when I had a mild rash on my hand. My mom took me to his office, and as soon as he entered the room, he saw my hand and called it on the spot. He was funny and made a kid like me crack up. Soon after, I was given a prescription and a friendly goodbye. Five years passed, and I had another skin-related issue that I needed to be taken care of. Once again, he called it on the spot and told me what I needed to do in order to resolve the problem. As I left, he smiled and said, "We'll see you in another five years!" Just this morning, I decided to try my luck at getting an appointment and got one promptly at 11:30am. I got there a little late, and apologized since I had some trouble finding their office. The receptionist assured me it was no problem, and I took my seat. Within minutes, I was directed toward "the second room on the right," as the receptionist said. "Just have a seat and he'll be with you in a few minutes." From the hallway, Dr. Miller blurted out, "She's lying!" Once again, he took one glance at my hand and immediately called it. He gave me an explanation for the condition and gave me my prescription, and I was set to go. Dr. Miller is a witty and knowledgeable doctor. People may call him quick and rushing, but that's only because he knows exactly what he's doing. And his one-liners are the best in the Greater Bay Area. read more

He took the time to explain the condition and treatment options carefully and did so with compassion and humor. I've been a patient of and seeing Dr Miller for 40 years + he has treated me for several skin related issues over the years and I get regular appointments checking for skin cancer because my hobbies are surfing and bicycling . Dr. Miller is the same guy I met 40 years ago and I appreciate everything about him. Dr Miller has always been honest, caring and trust worthy. I'm a kaiser member but prefer see and be treated by Dr Miller. I have seen many Doctors over my life time and Doctors are people and they all have different personalities some I agree with and some I don't. Dr. Miller has a small office across the street and down a bit from Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Gatos. It's a little hard to find, as it's in a confusing little maze of a medical complex. The staff is quite efficient, and I was able to make an appointment for the same week that I called in. Dr. Miller has tons of experience and has a great personality. He's the epitome of what I think a Dr. 'should' be. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer any questions you have. He's also got a good sense of humor. read more

Just recently taken over power of attorney for my senior parents as they have had some declining health issues. In the interest of helping to resolve a past bill, I responsibly called their office. The office manager Trina refused to talk to me as she says she has spent too much time on the issue. When I asked to leave a message with Dr. Miller, he was supposedly listening to the call and also unwilling to speak to me. [not something you get very often from a popular doctor] Two types of Dermatologist: 1. Strictly cosmetic 2. I just needed advice on what to do about it. He said "you did this to yourself and then come to me to fix it?" That was just a sample of how rude he was. Unbelievably bad experience: I called this morning and asked to be seen as I have a horrible rash. The receptionist told me to come right in, they would see me. I explained that I work half an hour away in Scotts Valley, was that okay? She said yes, come in. So I took time off my work and drove all the way to his office in Los Gatos, and walked in and introduced myself. At this point, The receptionist looked me up in their computer and realized that I had not been seen previously in this office (apparently there are two Dermatologists named Miller in Los Gatos, which must cause some confusion, but they are clearly aware of this). She then informed me they would not see me. I was shocked, and said that I had just driven half an hour for this appointment. Her response was that it was not her problem. I asked if they could see me as a new patient, and she said no. I asked why she hadn't looked me up in the computer BEFORE telling me to come in, and she said that wasn't their policy as they are still using a paper appointment book. I tried pleading with her, asking if there was any way they could squeeze me in, and she rudely told me no, there was no way they would see me. She then called the other Dr Miller's office, confirmed that I had been seen previously in his office, scribbled his name and number on a post-it, and handed it to me. She said that he couldn't see me now either, but I should call him for appointments in the future. And then she told me to leave. I was so shocked, I did. I will be writing a letter to this Dr Miller but I had to post this as well. I manage a dental office, and if I treated a patient, or any person, like this, I would be fired immediately. I wonder if the doctor knows how rude and uncaring his staff is? He should. read more

We've used Dr Miller for a couple years and has put up with the unprofessional way he runs his office, but never really had a need for someone more responsive until recently. We started seeing him for acne for my daughter. When non of the topical medications worked, I suggested that we gave her Accutane because that's what I used when I was younger. Accutane is a government regulated drug. You need to get lab tests, and secondly the Dr's office has to do something at their end on the Ipledge system and then prescribe it. The first prescription took almost 2 months to complete, while my daughter's face was scarred from pimples. I learned now, that the reason it took a long time is because the people at the office are incapable. I had to go back to the office twice to pick up lab forms. Once I went to the office at 3pm and they were closed. I'm telling you, this people have no idea that there are patients relying on them! What did it for us, was when my daughter was due for her next round of prescription (after waiting 2 months for her first one), we were never given lab forms. I had to call to make an appointment for her. But it turned out Dr Miller is going on vacation (mind you, when I said we've put up with him, he's always gone!). We had an emergency at our end and could not make her appointment and unfortunately now the Dr is gone. So we had no way of getting refill for this very strong medication that she was to take for 6 months continuously. Who knows what will happen if she missed taking her medication. Dr Miller had no back up Dr. The office was completely rude to my husband. We called the IPledge (Government) and they advised us to call the FDA because this doctor should not be prescribing this medicine. So long story short... this office, is antiquated, no manners, no sense of urgency... no accountability. Please don't go here. The bright side of the story was that we found a Dr who actually is very professional, knew how to prescribe this medicine (he gave us recurring lab orders & appointment for next month), a very professional office. My old dermo retired and everyone was referred to this guy. I was also rushed through my appointment. He was talking, but not connecting to me. I had a hard time understand what he was talking about because he kept referring to the price of the various procedures I would need.
