I've had to change dentists because of insurance issues multiple times in the last few years. It has been supremely annoying, but on the bright side it has led me to Dr. Louie! His office is located in a building with a few other small healthcare providers and is pretty small. He had one receptionist working while I was there, and unfortunately she had trouble running my and my husband's insurance - I don't blame her though, we have complicated out-of-state insurance. Dr. Louie actually helped resolve that himself! Another point for him. Once the cleaning began, I was very impressed by how gentle he was and how knowledgeable he was about teeth. I've been to many dentists but I've never heard so many dental and flossing facts while I was getting worked on. He also gave me some flossing tips I had never heard before which I've implemented in my daily routine. The biggest plus for me was that my mildly dentist-phobic husband had a similarly pleasant experience. He said he wouldn't mind coming back for a checkup sometime in the next year, which speaks volumes to the quality of work Dr. Louie does. read more

Over the last few years in his care, Dr. Louie has proven himself to be an excellent dentist. He does his own cleanings and is calm and gentle during treatment. I recently had some cosmetic work done where he added composite to my front teeth and the outcome was excellent - I couldn't be happier. read more

Ive been going to Dr. Louie ever since I was a kid, we were less fortunate and had dentical. Dr. Louie always recommended as a requirement to floss and brush your teeth twice a day. I haven't had cavities since my preteen years or a root canal ( knock on wood). He is the most honest Dentist I have known. He does not try to sell or push for unnecessary procedures. Front desk Judy is nice, and uplifting. She is kindly to fit you in your personal schedule as much as possible and send friendly reminders. I highly recommend this office. read more

The Best Dentist ever! I have recommended him to many good friends, who still use his services, is Dr. Kenneth Louie 510-444-7277 his office is on 401 29th off Broadway in Oakland. We drive all the way from Albany/EC area . I like him because he was gentle with my kids since they were little. That dentist totally botched the fix and I was so unhappy with the results. I went to Dr. Louie and he completely fixed my tooth and made it look brand new. I've shopped around for dentists in the Bay Area for a while and finally found Dr. Louie! He is very meticular in his work, and very patient in explaining things. He does tooth cleaning himself, and instead of trying to sell expensive fancy procedures, he emphasizes on recommending good oral hygiene care at home as he believes that's the most important thing to maintain healthy teeth. The office manager Judy is also fabulous. Judy is super sharp and efficient. She gave me very clear and accurate estimate/information so there will be no surprise bills later. Dr. Louie is an exceptional dentist. He has a very small practice in downtown Oakland and does all the cleanings himself. He also has Saturday hours once a month, which is very nice. Other than Dr. Louie's extremely nice demeanor and his gentle touch with a pick, there are many other things I love and respect about his practice. Mostly, he does not over treat dental problems. Last year I went in when I thought I may have needed a root canal. He could have easily performed a $1000 procedure and billed my insurance company; however, he instead advised me to wait a couple of days in case it was a sinus infection. He said my sinuses could also be pinching the nerve and he'd hate to do a procedure that was unnecessary. Secondly, he does not push -- or even suggest -- cosmetic dentistry. I find this very refreshing. Recently, I had some tooth issues from a bicycle accident that left one of my from tooth bruised. It is slightly discolored and he did not suggest a procedure that would alter the color of my tooth. All he told me was medical advice about infections that can occur later from a bruised tooth. Moreover, in several years going to Dr. Louie he never has mentioned anything about bleaching my yellow teeth. That is very unique these days. Third, Dr. Louie is really into giving people "the science" behind teeth. I find this fascinating and enjoy how he explains medical issues and acts as a teacher sometimes at appointments. Lastly, Dr. Louie's office manager, Judy, is really nice. Things are very punctual at that office - even when you have to be squeezed in for an emergency. I spoke to someone name Judy and she was super helpful. Took her time in helping me over the phone. I called at around 5:20 and they closed at 5:30 and instead of rushing me off the phone, she really wanted to help me. I actually haven't been to the place but I'm pretty sure they are all awesome . Unfortunately, they don't take my dad's insurance so I'm bummed that I won't be getting their services. But I highly recommend them. Really professional. I needed a ton of major dental work, and the quotes I received were simply not affordable. Dr. Louie figured out a way to restore my mouth in phases that allowed me to be 100% comfortable with the treatment plan and the out-of-pocket cost. Dr Louie is fantastic. He's gentle, kind, calm, informative, and has good apt. availability. My office and myself have been going to him for years. He has a small office, just him and his secretary. His secretary is a bit of the tough love general but she gets the job done and is kind. I really like the small office feel, they remember me and it is never chaotic. This calm atmosphere is great for me since I get really nervous before a dentist appointment. I know he accepts Delta Dental insurance. Kenneth Louie's response to my complaint illustrates the disparate treatment that we were subjected to. There was no "miscommunication," we were asked to "cash pay upfront!" I carefully detailed the complaint to the dental board, both insurance companies and the BBB. No, his policies aren't consistent with other offices because we've had other dentists in the area who never detailed in writing that they were "a creditor" and that I was "a debtor!" Dr Louie handles all procedures, from cleaning to root canals and Judy runs the small, pleasant waiting room and office. No impersonal assembly line here! My 11 yr old daughter had teeth extracted in order to start orhto treatment. Dr. Ken Louie did an awesome job even when it was a difficult case. My daughter was pleasantly surprised that the shots to numb her up was not a problem at all. My husband and I have also had work done by him and we can definitely say that he does great work.
