Who was Weenie Beenie and what is it like? We had no idea but we knew they were one of the first,…read moreif not the first, to serve the legendary half-smoke sausages only available in DC. The visit was unique, the story is unique and the food is unique! Let's do this! Established in 1950 or 1954 (reports vary but the sign on the building says 1954), Weenie Beenie was a modest hot dog stand serving hot dogs and beans. It was started by two brothers, Carl and Bill Staton. Bill happened to be an incredible and ultimately famous traveling pool player who went by the name... you guessed it... Weenie Beenie! He won 27k in Arkansas (which is a LOT of money in the 1950's) and used the money to finance the hot dog stand's growth! He appeared on television, played hustlers across the country, and backed other hustlers while living the pool and entrepreneur life. During the 50's, a period of entrenched segregation in Virginia, Weenie Beenie distinguished itself by hiring black employees on the same terms as whites when most white‑owned businesses would not hire blacks at all. This made Weenie Beenie a rare example of early workplace integration in Arlington and a meaningful employer within the historically Black Green Valley community. Its reputation for fairness became a very important part of its legacy, remembered along with the food and its very colorful founder. We popped over and found a 70+ year old walk-up stand with a colorful, diverse and engaging set of customers and friendly service. In faded letters on the front wall to the left are the 10 commandments! No breaking any divine rules at Weenie Beenie's! We all chatted and I learned the one guy comes every day! The old man in the suit was very polite and reserved. The younger Latin and black clientele were fun and engaging and we joked around quite a bit. Another older man was as 38-year veteran of the armed service! Thank you sir! I heard some stories... Of course, we ordered half-smokes! They are well-seasoned half-pork, half beef, smoked sausages that are truly incredible. Weenie Beenie's are unique and delicious! Life is good with a historic, unique, fun and respectful half smoke.

My go-to order is the pressed-flat chimney cone with Nutella, bananas, and strawberries. It's served hot, fresh, and makes the perfect afternoon treat. My platter was around $13, which I think is a great value for the quality and portion. If you have a sweet tooth or are looking to try something different, I definitely recommend stopping by. The menu is not your typical hot dog stand as you can get burgers, cheesesteaks, and a variety of sides and other items. Depending on when you stop by, there could be a line and the food is made fresh, so the wait might be longer than expected. However, the food is really good. I plan to stop by again soon to try other menu items.

We ordered two burgers -- the classic smash burger (lettuce, tomato, mayo, and cheese) and the BBQ bacon burger (grilled onions, bacon, and BBQ sauce) -- along with their famous cheesesteak combo. The cheesesteak came loaded with lettuce, jalapeños, tomato, and steak infused with peppers and onions, topped with Marky's-style cheese, plus seasoned fries and a soda. Everything was absolutely delicious, and I can't recommend this place enough -- especially knowing they're part of our local community. I've walked past this gem so many times without realizing what I was missing! It's tucked away in the Home Depot parking lot on Little River Turnpike, so don't sleep on it. I'll definitely be back to work my way through the entire menu.

We ended up with the fried turkey chops, crab and shrimp fries, and the "grilled" salmon over rice. I put the quotations around "grilled" because my salmon was certainly not grilled. I was about 80 percent sure it was fried (due to the general texture and crispy bits that dotted the outside). Unfortunately, that was the least of my problems with the salmon. The thinly cut piece of salmon was WAY overcooked. Large portions of it were akin to a jerky texture, and not only that, it was served over mushy overcooked minute rice with a sprarse dotting of the peppers and onions it promised. It was just a failure on all levels. The turkey chops were also overcooked. I'll give them that they looked well fried, emitting a golden brown hue, and we're seemingly quite crispy. But after biting in, the turkey that was revealed was stringy and lacked seasoning. The crab and shrimp fries were decent. I don't mean this as shade, but they do know how to cook their french fries. Even the fries that came with the turkey chops were nice and crispy. The crab and shrimp that was thrown on top of the fries could have used a bit more crab, but was overall decently seasoned using their own brand of "Mr. T Sauce" Unfortunately, the fries are not enough to bring me back... and I'd definitely go with one of the other food trucks that was there if given another chance.

If you work in the area this could be your favorite lunch spot! I only wanted to try their unique items so this time I tried the Oxtail Banh Mi Cheesesteak and next time I want to try the Brisket BanhMi Cheesesteak! Also my eyes are on the Supreme Pho which has a lot of meat in it! It's pricey for a sandwich but also I've enjoyed it to the max and I have no regrets. I'm also not aware at all with the Oxtail price, however I know that while it could look cheap, it doesn't give you a lot of near per piece! The sandwich also comes with a little cup of Pho to dip in or sip on! I won't deduct stars but they need to have Pho spoons!! They gave me a regular one and they need to construct the sandwich better so it doesn't become very soggy and messy ! Again! I've enjoyed it to the max! It needs to be more solid/crispy and then we use the pho at our convenience to dip in and get it softer by the bite! I hope the management can think about that! It was a flavor bomb and an amazing fusion fusion Try it, vote for the review , message me, or compliment me with any comment or question, and don't forget to ... I self-ordered a regular rib eye pho at the counter and it took awhile for my order to be ready for pickup. As for the pho itself, it was...okay. I'm a pho enthusiastic and had been spoiled by great pho from where I'm from so this is subpar by comparison. It feels like an non-authentic take on pho (I mean, they are supposed to be fusion?). The broth feels like it's the powder we get from the store without actually using beef bone in the broth. Other than the wait time, no issues with the staff. The ambience of the Water Park and the weather was perfect for outdoor seating.
