Dropped in here based on previous reviews & it just sounded like a good place. It was! It's a bit of a dive, but the catfish was fab! Hubby & I ordered the 8 pc catfish meal to split & it was plenty! Fries were not terribly special, but the puffs were. The puffs are like a crispy sopapilla ball with a soft bread-like & semi-sweet interior. Eat them with honey & you'll want more. We called in an order on the way through town. I ordered that catfish dinner 5 piece. It came with coleslaw and fries, but only 4 pieces of fish. They were bigger pieces but four not five. Coleslaw was terrible and fries were old and greasy like they were dropped in the oil to reheat. Fish was good! Husband had 6 piece tender meal, only came with fries. Kids meal chicken nuggets came with 3 nuggets like you would get out of a Tyson chicken bag. No flavor except grease taste. Fries again were disgusting and old. Two large half and half teas. Perfect not too sweet. Outside the building has tall weeds growing in their asphalt, trash all over, inside the floors had so much food and spilled drinks. Entire place could use a little TLC by just normal maintain and clean. Credit card fee is 5%. There is NOT a single credit card company who charges that so of course they are making profit there too. read more

my husband and I ordered the steak fingers. the grease was old and the meat tasted off. They served water from the tap. The table was sticky and I have never seen a floor so dirty. The baseboards edges were caked with filthy. That place needs to be gutted and cleaned top to bottom. I will not return. read more

Ken's has two things going for it. The food and the customers! Our first time here. Since I'm a very forward person, I asked the next table what we should try. Four different tables chimed in, try this, try that! Talk about friendly! I love small towns. So, we started with those huge onion rings. Fantastic, crispy, crunchy onion rings. We all tried the combo plate, chicken tenders and fish. I tried the pollock, while others got catfish. The fish was light and crispy, very flavorful. Great tarter sauce. The chicken tenders were BIG and the the gravy was thick. SO good! Definitely small town good food, not the chain we usually despise going to. The employees were so nice and helpful. Not much ambiance, but you go to a restaurant for food, right? The service was very slow, but the waitress was apologetic and also very busy/hardworking herself. The catfish doesn't taste muddy, which some can, and the cornmeal breading is thick yet light. The fried chicken has a heavy crispy batter and the chicken is moist but not greasy -best fried chicken I've had in a long time. I had ate here many years before and loved it. I am sending this review not only so that you will know what needs work but to give the young waitress a great big ATTA- GIRL. She was great! She was as sweet as peaches She had great customer skills looking each person in the eyes as she took their order. Spoke up and clear. Repeated the order back with precision and she was very attentive to the kids and refills etc. She is also the main reason that I didn't insist on a correction in the check due to so much being bad. I wish I could remember her name. We were there a little before dark on the 23 of Dec. 2024. If that helps to know who the young lady was. The decor was very cute. Two of the kids ordered kids catfish, One ordered Cheeseburger, One ordered steak fingers myself and the oldest ordered adult catfish. The food tasted a bit like it was cooked in old grease. All of the fries was defiantly old grease and tasted as if they had been left sitting in grease for a while. All of the salt shaker, lemon dispenser, table and Ketchup dispenser all felt sticky and greasy. The bathrooms where very dirty and the floor felt greasy as you walked. but also had black nasty stuff all around the edges. My philosophy is if the bathroom that the public can see is nasty then what does the kitchen look like that we can't see. Fish is great. AYCE is excellent except you wait almost 30 min to receive food even with restaurant only just over 1/2 full. If it was full wait would have been probably closer to 40-45 minutes. Portion sizes of fish is very good. Slaw was okay, but nothing special. Fries were good but could tell not fresh out of fryer. Not hot by no means. Same could be said about the fish: warm but not hot & fresh out of fryer. Actually the "refill" fish was extremely fresh and hot straight from fryer. Service was okay at best. Had to ask 2nd server for refills twice before our server came to check on us. Paid almost $24 for 2 adults including our drinks. So less than an average of $12 a person for AYCE fish is pretty good. read more

Ive been there a few times with no problems before but this time was terrible. There were 2 other tables besides us and took just over an hour to get our food. Prior to the food coming out, everyone had to walk to the front to get a refill. When food did come out, it was warm at best. The fries were old. I got the 6 piece fish filet and below is a pic of one of the "filets". Once food was dropped off, server never came back around again. I had to walk to the front to get a refill again. When paying, 2 of us told the server that the food was awful and nowhere close to the quality of before. The server then states "that is not my fault, I don't do the food" and brushed off our complaints. I showed her a picture of the filet and she said you can go back and ask the cook if you want. If this is the direction Kens is going, stay far away. read more

We have eaten at Ken's many times over the years but we are done. The food is great and while the service can be slow as others have mentioned, the waitresses do their best to keep up. The reason we are not going back is the dining area is downright nasty!!! The floor and walls appears to not have been cleaned since the remodeling was done well over a year ago. This is probably a good indicator of how bad the food prep area is. I can't believe an inspector would not shut them down for the dining room alone? read more

I visited this place since I've been out of the area for a while now. I learned that it is under new management or and/ ownership and that food isn't as good as it use to be. The chicken strips weren't fresh and the oil it was fried in seemed to be old as well. The puffs were also a disappointment as was the water downed honey they had on the table. As far as the renovation, they are diner-esque but no cigar. Sad to see such a stable of Breckenridge go down hill. Hope this turns around. read more

Best fried catfish ever... Moist succulent catfish strips in a heavy corn meal batter fried to a crisp perfection. Never had it so good. Fresh homemade coleslaw was also delicious. Took forever with the large crowd, but well worth the wait. This catfish was fresh made and as good as could be. For $9.99 my wife and I shared the 8 piece platter and were satisfied. This place has authentic, hand battered chicken and fish. The food is amazing! They also serve puff pastries with your meal that are the perfect end to the great tastes. I'd give a better review but as we were the first to dine upon opening, the place had not been cleaned the night before, after closing, or the morning before opening. It is unpleasant to have to wipe my own table and chair off and nobody has been there yet. This is my second visit to this establishment and the first visit was better. GREAT HOMEMADE FOOD! We tried the chicken strips, pollock and steak fingers and all were DELICIOUS. Their batters/breading on their meats are tasty and stay on but what puts them over the top is their meats are flavorful too and tender. We enjoyed the coleslaw and puffs as well. The fries were just your normal frozen ones but cooked well. Did not try onion rings but they looked very tempting. Also imagine their chicken fry sandwich would be great as the steak fingers bit through very easily yet still had great texture. Tip is to not be in a hurry. Since the food is homemade it takes time but is more than worth it if you enjoy homemade fried goodness. Wish I could give them 4.5 stars as they are better than 4 but not a quite a 5 with frozen fries and could use a little more help up front although they were nice and friendly. Well worth the stop and would eat here again if back in the area. read more

This is fried food Heaven. I'm not a big catfish fan and I read that it was good so I got the Pollack fish with the same cornmeal batter called the Southern plate. Definitely the way to go. Add some malt vinegar and a lil Tabasco and ur good to go!! I substituted onion rings for my fries which was a total score. Some of the best rings ever. Platter also came with slaw and a "puff" (fried biscuit). You HAVE to get extra puffs!! Put some honey on that and you will finish an amazingly yummy albeit bad for you meal. Who cares? It's comfort food. And I'm giving them the extra bonus star for just being OPEN on Labor Day!! Seriously?? It's opening day of hunting season. What a trip! This place looks like it used to be a Dairy Queen. Interior is red, white and black (black-and-white linoleum floors) with Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Betty Boop photos and posters for wall decor - 1950's feel and some '50's music on the overhead speakers. (Inside is nicer than the outside.) We came in early for dinner on a Tuesday and almost had the place to ourselves...but the drive-thru stayed busy. We ordered the catfish and pollock (flour batter at the waitress' suggestion). Based on other reviews, we also ordered onion rings and extra puffs. The onion rings came out first in a basket large enough to feed an army...or my husband as the case may be. They were obviously handmade and delicious. The fried fish was good, the French fries and slaw were average. But the puffs...OMG. These really are deep fried Grand's biscuits. They are akin to sopapillas or beignets, but they are their own bad selves...and by bad I mean good. You get one or two with your meal (depending on which size fish dinner you order), but 6 come to the order if you go that route. These are wonderful with honey and totally worth the fat, calories and carbs. Go for it! read more

I grew up eating Ken's. For a small town, it's pretty good. Everytime I go home, I always stop in to have Southern style fish. They have great onion rings, which are fresh and very flaky! This place has really fallen. It used to be amazing but now it is very subpar. The resterant has even started closing during the week. Typically I get the fish or chicken tenders with onion rings and have been very let down. The last time I ended up getting really sick from after looking was undercooked chicken. My sister, a nephew, a niece, and myself were traveling through. We wanted something that we didn't have in our hometown (Big Spring, TX) and wasn't real busy. We were on our way out of town thinking maybe to eat in the next town until we saw Ken's Chicken-N-Fish. I had the all you can eat catfish but was more than enough. I only ordered 2 extra catfish strips and was quite full. The strips were just the right size and tasted very good. The french fries were awesome. The puffs, which are deep-fried biscuits, are light and especially good with honey. The sweet tea was fresh and not tangy like it's supposed to be. My nephew had the little corn dogs with mustard and ketchup which he liked. He also liked the puffs. My niece loved the puffs. My nephew and myself gave her each a puff. My sister had the smaller catfish plate and really liked it. I don't know what my niece had but she liked it. The outside of the building looks like a very old Dairy Queen but the interior and the employees give it a hometown feel. The decoration gives the feel of a local cafe and the staff are warm and inviting. After talking with one of the employees, we found that it had opened in 1979. For any of you that would like to keep a good restaurant going, the current owners are tired of the business and want to sell. read more
