I want to say if you're ever in Breckenridge, Tx y'all need to stop at the Pit Stop! The people are so friendly the first time I went in it's a very small place but I tell you it was packed. The aroma of smelling the smoke bbq was amazing I love it! I was treated with a welcome smile a greeting and I was like wow this is a very nice place the decor on the wall had on the wall was very nice the had pictures of older vehicles which impressed me. All the employees seem to really work together to get the orders out like I said they were very busy! I looked over the menu they had a variety of items it was a bid discussion but I finally made my mind up of having the chopped beef with beans and a sweet tea oh my I wasn't disappointed at all this was awesome!!!! Stopped in here today while on a hunting trip! The food was really great!! I had a simple grilled chicken sandwich and Cole slaw. It was delicious. Their iced tea is great too! I had three refills!:) My hubby had a chopped brisket sandwich, coke slaw and baked beans. He ate it all! He did say the beans were a little spicy but very good. The decor is campy with license plates from all 50 States! They were busy but it didn't take long to get our food. It is very high quality barbecue and the flavors are perfect! read more

Great staff and friendly people! That being said, the actual food is lacking. The Mac & Cheese is out of the box Kraft. The baked beans taste like Bush's beans from a can. The potato salad tastes like it was purchased from a local grocery store. The BBQ sauce tasted like generic walmart sugar sauce with no real flavor or tang, just sweet corn sugar. Salad was sort of okay, at least the lettuce was fresh but the dressing? Just more generic walmart sugar sauce. The tomatoes? Far past their prime and soggy. As for the meat? Meh. Decent. Tender, and totally edible - but so freaking bland. Overwhelming 'artificial smoke' flavor (you know, the kind that takes a day to get out of your mouth) and lacking any real flavor. No garlic. No onion. No pepper. Nothing to write home about. Just generic and so bland. Being warned 'this might be hot, be careful, it just came out of the microwave' for deserts was rather sad. Just want to remind everyone - the staff and people are great. That's not the problem. The problem is paying insane prices for kraft mac and cheese, canned beans, and totally bland and boring meat. I understand this area tends to cater to those who prefer very bland comfort food with lack of flavor, and I am not the typical customer - but when I drop $75+ with a generous 20% tip on food, I'd expect better. read more

Update!! Improved service after the last time, the lady I was speaking of is no longer there!!!! I've really tried to like this place but it's impossible. The lady that runs it is so rude and nasty I just can't go there again. It's sad because the food is descent and it's very convenient but I have never had anyone be so rude to me. I've probably been there 12-14 times and not once has she ever been nice, today was worse and absolutely the last straw. I have no idea how this place has any business. I will go miles out of my way or starve before I go back. read more

Chopped beef had a superb smoky flavor throughout...it was excellent....the baked beans were also very good....sweet potato fries were very good!!!! We will be back... Talked to the owner and they have been going for 12 years....homemade peach cobbler was also very good... read more

What a pleasant surprise this was! We were traveling to Lake Possum Kingdom and stopped here for lunch. My husband had the rib special. He said the ribs were tender and tasty. I had the shredded brisket sandwich. It was very good. We both had sweet potato fries, which were delicious. The restaurant is a quant little hole in the wall. My family and I were driving through Texas and drove into the small town of Breckenridge right around lunch time. We searched for food on our GPS and saw Pit Stop Bar-B-Q and decided to try it out. This place is just a small building with two huge smokers on the side of the building. When we got there the place was packed so we figured it had to be pretty good. We jumped in line and anxiously waited our turn to order. Let's just say they were too busy to be overly friendly but we got our food in just a matter of minutes. My wife and I both got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of baked beans. The buns are large and stacked high with beautiful looking pulled pork. The barbecue sauce is at the table so I drenched my sandwich with it. I was hooked with the first bite. Juicy, tender pulled pork with just the right amount of smoke! It got even better with every bite. My favorite part was the generous amount of bark I tasted throughout the entire sandwich; not overly smoking but full of wonderful flavor. This is why people say the best Barbecue is found in Texas! If you find yourself driving through the small town of Breckenridge...be sure to stop and eat at Pit Stop! read more

Service was excellent and they took care of us, but the food was a bit lacking. The ribs were the special of the day, so we tried those, but they were lackluster to say the least. The sides were decent though which was good. All in all, not a bad place to go in a town that has few options to eat, but there is better BBQ to be had in your backyard. read more

This is a small place. Went to the drive-thru first and was told they didn't have a menu so we had to go inside. The menu was explained and the ordering began. I got the chicken salad sandwich, sweet potato fries, and blackberry cobbler. The chicken salad was NOT what I was expecting. It had a kick to it, there were jalapeños in it! Most chicken salads that I've tasted are on the sweet side. This one was not....and it was yummy! The sweet potato fries were salted and peppered and delicious as well. The blackberry cobbler was chilled and I opted not to warm mine up. I think it was a great decision. It was perfect: not too sweet, not too tart. The service wasn't lacking but the friendliness was. This good old Texas BBQ joint sure did that. Simple interior, simply honest food. I had the potato with two meats. Great sausage, good shredded beef. Bit on the dry side maybe. Nothing a bit of good bbq sauce couldn't handle. My better half had the chicken and reported it was also a bit dry. But she liked it anyway. Had some cobbler for desert. Forgot what it was. All I remember the waitress telling me that it was hot, it just came out of the microwave. LOL. Sadly they didn't have any coffee. The meat (ribs and brisket) was pretty disappointing. Did not have much flavor. Wouldn't recommend

The slice of fatty brisket I asked for was extremely dry & tough. Good thing the bbq sauce was prob the best I've had in a while. They are cooking on real pits, so you would think the bbq would be better....sad. read more

I stopped by Pit Stop BBQ on my way though Breckenridge for a quick lunch. I was a little early for the lunch rush on a Monday. So, it was not crowded which meant no waiting. The service was fast and friendly, and the staff seemed genuinely interested in making sure the customers had a good experience. I ordered the lunch special which included a chopped beef sandwich, chips, and a drink. The beef was well prepared and tender although I thought it could have been a little more flavorful (and warmer). Adding some extra BBQ sauce helped. The portion size was also a little less than what I normally expect from Texas BBQ, but passable. Overall, I had a pretty good lunch, and I would not hesitate to stop by again on my way through town. read more

Terrible! We got our order to go. The sausage was gray and we were afraid to eat it. The only thing i could taste in the turkey was black pepper. They asked if I wanted sauce and I said yes. I got one very small container to share for two of the two meat plates. The plate had no sauce on it. They also asked if I wanted the cobbler heated and I said yes. They sent it frozen. However, the potato salad and beans were pretty good. Will not go back or recommend. read more

I ate there a few times over the years. It was ok....just bar-b-q. The portions seemed a little small, prices a little high and choice limited. Then one day I stopped in after work and bought a slab of ribs to take home for supper. When I got home I found they were extremely over done. The small ribs on the end were totally burned to a crisp and the rest were dry and had a burned taste...very disappointed for a $20 slab of ribs. I have not ate there since. read more
