We hosted a private event in the back room of the Kent Ale House and it worked really well. It was a nice place to bring together a select group of friends/family for dinner, and then others could join us later in the bar. The food service was a little disorganized (people got their food at all different times) but maybe that was because we were a large group (about 30 ppl). I knew I was going to like this place as soon as a woman handed me a free bourbon drink upon entering. It was some promotion, but I always like a free drink. The beer selection was terrific, with a patient and knowledgeable bartender to help with decision making. As tourists, my husband wanted to drink as much local beer as possible and the bartender set him up with a solid sampler of brews, explaining each one at length. They happened to have the banana bread beer that I love and I thoroughly enjoyed my pint. I had read the fries here were good, so we ordered a basket. No kidding, the rosemary whatever-else was amazing. Perfect carb to soak up all the alcohol we enjoyed. Fun environment, easy-going bar. Having a friend from South Africa in the 'burg has major advantages. You get a bunch of girls talking to you hoping that you have or will one day develop an accent and you get introduced to all sorts of sports most Americans don't give a shit about. In this case, we're talking about Rugby. In the past, he and I would hit the Australian or Dorian Gray in Manhattan to watch the games, but a google search lead us to Kent Ale House . It's a brick faced wall watering hole - has class, lots of flat screens and delicious food; a seriously decadent burger that Papa recommends. But the beer selection - hot damn - it's got the moves like jagger. Just too many to name and some serious rarities, like the Wells Banana Bread - it's like the banana bread you eat that leads to new friends, awesome dance moves and pointless arguments with your girlfriend. Mmmmm mmmm mmm. If you're looking for a sports bar in the 'burg; you know you've arrived when you get here, but if you're here for the rugby - you'll here shouting in all sorts of accents. Amazing food and beer selection. Their grass fed burgers are no joke. Super flavorful and juicy and grass fed! whatever that means. They are probably the best burgers I've had in New York (at a bar, at least). The location is kind of far from the subways, but it also means way less annoying people overcrowding the place so it all works out. Highly recommended. read more

Great spot, had a great beer selection and the food was incredible. We went for play off football with 5 people. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was someone kept coming up to us asking when we were done so they can fill the table for the next game. Once we were getting up the bus boy came and started busing the table before I could even get up once I did he reached across me 3x stepped on me a couple times. So I asked him do you mind if I put on my coat first. He said sorry I can't and kept going. Negative ending to a great experience. Well, I came online again to give a good review to a bar I've really grown to like lately, but I'm going to address Philip S. down there as well, because I think I might've been sitting there when this thing he's complaining about happened. If I heard right, he was asking a very polite bar tender to put on some game's commentary, which was apparently only offered in Spanish. He didn't seem to understand why the commentary was only available in a different language, and wouldn't listen no matter how many times the bartender politely explained that he couldn't change the language, nor would he make the whole bar listen to Spanish commentary for a game about which this man was evidently the only one interested. This person seemed confused and annoyed by a thing that evidently couldn't be fixed. The bar tender was about as polite as anyone could be in the circumstances. The place was packed and this guy was taking up a lot of time and energy. Anyway, for my money it's a great bar with a great staff. The food's good, the beer and cocktails are many and the space is really lovely. If you're over in the area, it's a great option, especially in the afternoon and evenings while the sun's out. First off Gina is the best. She gave fantastic recommendations on beer, food, and even brought ice for my bum knee. We walked by and decide to grab some food. They had an extensive list of good beers and neighborhood feel. All of the food was delicious. You have to try the pretzel and wings. So I went in around 2:30 for an UEFA Champions league match. Much to my surprise they had pretty much every game. And come to find out, this doesn't even apply just to soccer. Oh no my friends. Even Good Ol' Fashioned American Football- they've got the package. So i've got 7 tvs all around me with different games going on. I've got space that I can actually put my hands up yell and curse at the tv depending on my mood, and the beer...... YES THE BEER. Well. They had about 15 taps (maybe more) seasonal drafts as well as a rotating list of pure deliciousness. I had the Ithaca Flower Power, just a cool 8% IPA for $6 (or it might have been cheaper for happy hour). Now I had some work to do but if that wasn't wettin' my whistle, I could have downed a few $5 Jameson shots as well. But a Tuesday at 3pm? It ain't that kinda party. I didn't have any food but I heard the Nachos were a giant heaping pile of gooey goodness which is always a good thing. Fried pickles and tots completes the typical Boozer's preference for snacks, on top of the entrees and stuff I didn't even bother to read from the menu. Lance the bartender was great. Kept me engaged with some bartender banter (nothing too heavy but its nice to pass the time, know I Mean?) and sent me on my way. Ate here my last evening in Brooklyn before flying out. Wanted a nice calm meal. I had their Brooklyn Wheat beer and their 3 slider basket at an outside table looking toward the river. The beer was refreshing, the sliders and fries were tasty, and the service was about what I wanted - there when I needed them and otherwise leaving me in peace. I'd recommend the place. Good selection of beers and very good bar style food. If the weather is good take an outside table and enjoy a view of the river. While there are a huge number of restaurants in the area I'd certainly return if nearby again. read more

I came here on Sunday around 4pm. Pretty crowded, and managed to find a table in the back room. Service was excellent. The chili dogs were disappointing. What was supposed to be chili was really ground beef with melted cheese on top of the dogs. Fries were good though. The veggie burger is more like a black bean burger. I come here every week after my soccer games and it's always a good experience. Service is always friendly and the TVs will always have a major sporting event on. A couple menu favorites are the sweet potato fries--or any of their fries for that matter--and their club sandwich. Kent is a nice place to grab a late afternoon beer or two, with decent happy hour specials. In my admittedly limited experience with New York bars, I haven't found that many with outstanding beer selections, but Kent has one of the better selections I came across. I didn't order food, but would come back to do that some time. I can't really tell if Kent Ale House is a really old bar or just one that's made to look that way, but it has a nice, worn look to it. Great Brunch Menu; My boyfriend and I were just spending the day at the park across from it and decided to stop by for a bite. I had the Chicken Waffle sandwich and Wow It was amazinggg!!! The drinks were great as well, I had a frozen strawberry Margarita and One was all I needed. Terrific! Great food and beer selection and the waitstaff and bartender were wonderful. Knowledgable, capable and attentive without being overbearing. I had the veggie burger with fries while my boyfriend had the three sliders. He said each was better than the last and when pressed said he wouldn't even know which he'd order if he was only getting one. I for one liked that my side of fries (you can also get a salad if fries aren't your thing) was a side. Not a way to make up for a subpar veggie burger. A great ratio that was neither too much nor too little. The veggie burger was big and flavorful and made with actual vegetables rather than 99% soy. Great bar on a Main Street in Williamsburg. It's nice to sit outside and relax or by the window and people watch. If your going to this bar for sports on Sunday's, I would recommend getting here early or early evening. You're not going to get a seat during prime viewing. When we got there, literally everything they had detailed did not exist, and whats more the bar staff treated us like we were foolish for even asking about it. Not sure if this was just a lie to draw customers to the bar or what, but regardless we stayed for a bit. The bar was ridiculously hot (had AC and fans, but chose not to use them), the were flies EVERYWHERE, and the food was adequate at best. So many other, better options around - skip it. read more

Located directly across from the Bklyn Flea on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. After walking in the hot sun and checking out all the booths we needed a respite and there across Kent on the corner was Kent Ale House. The corner has outdoor seating, which while very tight, was in the shade and made for very nice people watching. The beer was cold and the burger we had was fine. The service was friendly and efficient despite there being alot of people coming and going. This was a great place to get out of the rain in Brooklyn. After the brewery had a huge line, as did bowling, we popped in here to dry off and get a snack. I tried a fantastic Strawberry Kiwi Cider (think: adult capri sun). We also had a basket of fries which were plentiful and delicious. One great thing about Kent Ale House is how it plays games on the many televison sets they have. My fiance asked that they put on the URI basketball game, and even with a few other games going on, they turned it on on the tv nearest to him. So nice! read more

Great pub for watching rugby and soccer with a large selection of beers on tap. Their beer, the Kent Ale, is definitely worth trying if you enjoy ales. The atmosphere reminded me of traveling to the UK and Ireland. We did not order food, but the food we saw other patrons ordered looked and smelled great. The bar staff was friendly and professional. We had great conversation with our bartender and received several good recommendations on where else to check out in Brooklyn. I've come to Kent Ale House twice now. Sat on the patio each time. I dig the happy hour specials. My server (same girl) was super helpful and sweet both times. She happily brought beer samples before my friends and I settled on something we've never tried before. Spacious. The backroom seems a slightly out of place. The decor is nothing to rave home about. Great location. Not so great: the women's bathroom sliding door. I don't get it. It's difficult to open and lock, especially after having been drinking. I've walked by this place many times and always thought "I should try it." So I did. Happy to report it was a great experience and I will be stopping in again. Very comfortable, nice layout, good music, great beer selection and the food (had the sliders with sweet potato fries) was excellent. The bartender (asked but forgot his name, it was a Sunday around 230PM) was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Asked him about a couple of the beers and his recommendation was spot on and he made sure I was taken care of. Great spot. Low key spot to enjoy some bevs. Stopped in here on Sunday and partook in $5 bloody Mary's (served in a pint glass) along with multiple craft beers. We scored a corner booth near the open windows and really enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine. Lots of tvs playing college football games. Also had and order of fried pickles ($5).
