Extremely impressed with my first visit to this salon. After seeing three of my friend's haircuts after going to see Kent and Alex I was begging them to tell me where they went to. Kent was very friendly when I got there and Micheal was the sweetest. Best hair wash of my life and I love the product they put in my hair. Kent understood what cut I was going for and didn't cut a cm above where I wanted. I left feeling pretty and like I have a hairstyle I could truly style each day with minimal effort. My first time going here, I went for a haircut at 10am and I think Kent double booked himself because at 10:30 his next client showed up and he was still cutting my hair so then he blow dries it but not like a blow out he literally dried my hair like I would have done it at home he only round brushed the front parts. It was very rushed because his next client was there and he didn't even cut my hair when he dried it. At the beginning of my appointment he said he was going to cut my hair while wet then blow dry it to cut it when it's dry but he was in such a rush to get to his next client that he didn't even finish my cut after he dried it so some parts of my hair need a little bit more of a blend bc I got layers he would have seen that if he took his time and checked my hair when it was dry to see if it needed more trimming or blending. I don't usually leave reviews but when your hair cuts are $75.00 I expect good service. Now I have to look for another stylist to finish my haircut. Only reason I'm leaving 1 star is for the shampoo tech. read more

This is towards Gino the hairdresser. I set an appointment time and he made me wait an hour past the appointment time. When I finally sat in the chair, he asked me if I had an appointment. I had confirmed the day prior through text with him. I could look past that but then he talked down to me. I have long wavy hair with face framing layers. I let my hair air dry to keep it healthy and so I can continue to grow it out. I have just moved into town a few months and was desperate for a trim and my face framing layers to be cleaned up. I explained to him I want just that, a trim and my face framing layers to be trimmed. He told me there was zero point of me having those face framing layers due to me letting it air dry and it will look awful unless I blew dry it smooth. I found that to be extremely rude so I got up and left without the haircut. I'm sure some of the other hairdressers are kind and nice and could do a terrific job but I just felt so uncomfortable and look down on by everyone in there. I am a young college student so I guess they assumed I was cheap. I am not and would have tipped graciously. If you are looking for a new salon do not come here unless you enjoy being treated rude and coldly. read more

I came to the Kent James Salon because of Rosan. I have very frizzy hair and it had been badly damaged from poor color and too much heat. It was difficult to find someone who could blow dry my hair without making it too flat or poofy. After a few months of blow drys once a week, I developed confidence in her and we started cutting and coloring my hair to make it healthy again. In 1998 I decided I wanted hair extensions. Rosan was very meticulous and my hair was beautiful! I loved my hair extensions for 4 years. Having long hair again was fun and my husband thought it was very sexy. Last year we took them out and Rosan gave me a fun summer cut. Only one year later I'm back to my normal shoulder length frizzy hair again, But I have a great cut and my hair has never been healthier. Now I'm trying the Brazilian blowout to tame the frizzies. Basically Rosan can do anything to make your hair beautiful. I have referred her to many of my friends. read more

I have been in TX for 90 days helping FEMA and did a lot of research looking for the right salon. We made an appointment for Kent to do color. When we got there we got the bait and switch and ended up with Racquelle. I explained that I was a cancer survivor and my hair was very FRAGILE and thin. I just needed partial highlights. She ended up doing FULL HL's and left them partial red, which I explained this was the one color I DIDN'T want. So I went back to have her fix it and then she put more bleach on it and throughout my whole hair. My bangs and the top of my hair and ends are now fried. I have never been so disappointed in my hair. Especially since I don't have much of it left. I never write reviews, however every time I look in the mirror it upsets me. read more

Finally, FINALLY found a salon I love. I had gone to one place who basically died my hair purple. You know, the purple old ladies used to dye their hair? That. Then I went to Toni and Guy to fix it and they destroyed my hair. Not only was the dye bad, but the cut was ridiculous. Kent was calling other stylists over to show them and ask if they had ever seen anything like it before. Not to mention, the extreme damage done to my hair. Kent fixed it. All of it. I am so dissapointed. I had heard such great things about here. I made my appointment like a week ago and was eagerly awaiting it. When I got there, my stylist was in the middle of several haircolors, but it didn't bother me. We talked about what I wanted and I only had one firm request, that I get some face framing layers but not starting too high up. As the haircut proceeded, she had to go help with the haircolor people several times. One time she even came back and was saying " now where was i, I don't remember what I was doing with your hair." I got really nervous at this point, but just kept on since my hair was half done. At the end, it didn't have face framing layers at all, but looked cute the way she styled it, so I let it go and paid. I was actually pretty happy with it. When I got home, the smell from the hair product was making me feel sick, so I washed my hair. Now that it is dry, I HATE it! Not only are there no face framing layers, the front has this HUGE layer that cuts off at my shoulders and doesn't blend in with any of the rest of my hair. I can't even push it behind my shoulders to hide it because it is too short. I have a little kid and a job I have to be at super early in the morning, and I don't have time to style this mess for half an hour to make it look ok. So now, I'll have to go get it cut AGAIN to fix this or just wear a ponytail for months until it grows out. read more

When they finally called me back, a very rude guy tells me to hold every 2 mins, and asks me: is your name Gimena ... so and so? like wow at least try to say my name, I could be a potential customer and did not feel like they cared at all. ENRIQUE changed a hair appt. my daughter had scheduled 7 weeks before -- and the terms he had suggested -- the morning of her prom! And had the audacity to call me back and spew even more venum! ENRIQUE is not ethical or fair. On March 6th I purchased a voucher for a "haircut, wash, blow dry, style and single process color". i wanted to treat my daughter for her prom. She scheduled the appt. in March, talking personally with Enrique over the phone. She told him she didn't need color or highlights; HE agreed to do an "updo" instead at no extra charge. I was not privy to the phone conversation, but this is what she told me back in March, well before either of us could have imagined it blowing up in our face. On Sat April 28th Enrique left a VM that he had a full day, my daughter would have to come @2 or 2:30 instead of her 1:30 appt., and the "up-do" would cost $40 cash. I called Enrique, relating that she could not move her appt back as she had another appt. across town at 3:30. I also expressed my displeasure with him calling the morning of the long-scheduled appt. to "change the deal". Enrique went into a tailspin about having to serve "paying customers" instead of "voucher customers" -- I pd. for the voucher in March -- and that he was loosing money on the vouchers. I sympathized (I have my own business) with him but told him he priced the voucher - not me, so his anger was misplaced. He asked what I wanted him to do and I said "honor your appointment with my daughter". He refused to....said i should just get my money back. His "take it or leave it" at the 11th hour miffed me because his voucher has a 24 hr cancellation policy (i would have forfeited my $$$) when he gave us only 3 hrs' notice. Enrique is unethical enough to take the easy way out of the voucher agreement he made. My daughter was traumatized...great introduction to adult ethics. And would you believe that after I hung up HE CALLED BACK to spew more venom. This incident doesn't relate to his skills as a stylist or I would report it to the State, but it speaks reams to the kind of person Enrique is. In 45 years, i've had bad cuts and bad color jobs but honestly, no one has ever treated me like this and failed to honor their commitment in a scary, insensitive manner. read more

I had been getting color at an Aveda salon nearby and I was horrified at the cost for their mediocre services. Had consultation with Kent for corrective color: supposed to be corrected highlights & lowlights. Made appt for the following week & when I got there I don't think he remembered me, acted disinterested, did the bare minimum highlights. Although the price he charged was less than originally quoted, it didn't reflect the minimum color I received. When I called to ask if he could 'tweak' it by adding a few more highlights, he said "sure, let me call you back in 30 min. to set up appt" & he never called back. Initially, I did ask if a followup appt was possible, if I requested a minor change & he said yes. If he didn't really want to work with my hair color correction, I wish he had told me at the consultation. read more

Racquelle is great and was able to style and color my very curly hair.I have 3b/3c curly hair and I wanted highlights she did a great job at creating a natural look. The salon is welcoming. It was great to be able to meet the owner Kent James and you can tell he is passionate about his work and business. Most disappointing experience! I went there because a voucher a friend gave me as a gift. Most places use these to build their client list. Apparently Kent James is doing the opposite. My stylist arrived exactly at my appointment time. She tells me she tried to call to cancel because of electrical problems in the building. Adds she wrote my number wrong. Funny, it was right when she called a few days ago to set up the appointment . The electrician says he will be done in five minutes. She says no it would be too inconvenient for her. TRANSLATION : I don't want to work today. I tell her I have a tight schedule, only options are when I can't go, apparently not used to working women with work schedules. I've been going to Kent since 2004. I had heard about him and his salon from a co-worker. I had been envious of her hair from the first day she and I met. I had been going to the same stylist for 3 years but found that I was in a rut and also that she seemed to be just going through the motions. It was time for a change. Because of my work schedule I scheduled my initial visit at the end of the day just for a consultation. From the minute I walked in the door I felt welcomed. I was greeted right away and in my chair within minutes. Kent spent a good 20 minutes first listening to me about my past experiences and then what I expected from him. I felt so confident with him that I asked if he had the time then and there to go ahead with the cut and color. He said he would be happy to and I left that night with the best style and color since I had moved to Dallas in 1999. From 2004 to 2007 I went to Kent on a regular basis. Each time we discussed what I wanted and what he thought. Never was there a "same old same old" visit. I always felt I had his full attention and that he was there to make sure I left happy.(And I always did.) In 2007 I moved and the search was on to find a new stylist. As mentioned above I finally did find someone but when it was time to move back to Dallas I was very excited to return to Kent. I was welcomed back with open arms. Ladies, a little tip. If you have never had a male hair stylist....you definitely need to give one a try. I'm bias toward Kent of course. I've found that they listen better to your needs and ideas. A stylist needs to know about your life and daily routine to insure the right cut. Bottom line.....Kent is always at the top of his game and the salon itself is very welcoming and top rate. I had a terrible experience with Enrique. I had purchased a KGB Deals coupon for a haircut, wash, blow dry, style and color. I tried for literally months to get through to Enrique. When he did answer the phone and I tried to make an appointment, he made the excuse of oh, I'm not near my book, please call back. I did so, and got voicemail and left two messages, none were returned. After two days, his voicemail was full. I called again, got the same brushoff. I contacted KGB and they must have called him, as the next time I called he made an appointment for me on Sept. 18, told me not to worry he would honor the coupon which expired on Sept. 13. I was so happy. However, when I drove to Kent James Salon in Addison for the appointment, he told me that he had been 'overbooked' and could not work me in. We then wrote in his book, an appointment for today. I was a little upset, but still looking forward to getting my hair done. Imagine my surprise when last night I got a text message from him saying that he had a doctor's appointment and could not take me today after all. And PS, there would be an upcharge for doing my hair. Classic Bait and Switch operation. Enrique is not an honorable person; he does not honor his word, or his appointments. Don't make one with him. KGB will refund my money and I hope they can take some action against his bad business practices, and shame on Kent James Salon for allowing this to happen. read more

Beautiful salon, lovely hair products, and talented people - I love Rosan! She took the time to talk with me about my hair and how I prefer to style it. I have medium-thick, wavy hair for those who like to pick their hair people depending on textures. I'm low-maintenance when it comes to my hair (shampoo, condition, leave-in treatment, and deep conditioning once a week) and will usually mess up a salon blowout by the end of the day, but I actually wanted to preserve it this time around - which is saying something. I'm not sure I've ever been so pleased with a haircut before and it's super healthy too! I really want to get some of that Neuma haircare too - I did my research and apparently it's also gluten-free. Gluten doesn't affect my hair to my knowledge, but I'm sure there are others who are interested in that type of information. Rosan's also great to talk to - I'll definitely be back. read more

Absolutely the worst in the world ! I have never ever walked out of any salon in my entire life....UNTIL NOW ! When I made the appointment this morning I asked for hair color and cut with a razor. He said.. Great ! We do razor cuts. When I get there , they get black hair color on my skin which I had to tell the girl to take off of my forehead and ears. It didn't come off. Its like they cant afford color remover! Really ?!!! Then when she is finishing up on the color, she tells me she is not doing the cut with a razor... Instead, she is doing it with scissors which I did not want . Kent James comes over and already has an attitude and says... Well... She's only telling you about razor cuts... Then said , She took time out for you !.... Well... Guess what ? I drove and hour to get there ! So... By then, It was obvious they were not going to cut my hair, So... I said lets just get the color off. On they way to the bowl Kent James himself said sarcastically .. And I quote "I don't have to put up with this shit "... " Lets get this lady washed so she can get out of here ! ".... Talk about arrogant and rude !! This guy is obviously full of himself and thinks he is THE GOD of hair ... VERY OVER RATED ! Of course I'm sure he's his own biggest fan and .... Guess what ? I don't have to put up with his obnoxious rude attitude and don't intend to ever again ! Needless to say they rinsed my hair (which they left black all on my hair and skin until I got home . Also made me pay for their half assed service and rude sarcastic attitude. Cannot believe the owner of a salon had such an attitude from the very beginning.. I say DONT GO !!
