After hearing this puppy cry and barking for 3 days my friend & I called 911 and Boone County Animal Control, BCAC never checked on the poor thing ( we called numerous of times ) still they didn't check on him. My friend and another neighbor went to check on this poor puppy through the back door, the door was open and they retrieve the puppy, they feed it and gave it water ( it was starved and was holding his poo & pee in for days, it finally relieved itself ). Afterwards we called BCAC and they FINALLY came with a K-9 unit and made my friends put the puppy back into the cage and put it back into the apartment of the man who is in jail and doesn't seem to be getting out anytime soon. Meanwhile my friend & her other neighbor were scorned by BCAC & K-9 Unit about 'breaking & entering.' A PUPPY"S LIFE WAS AT STAKE AND BCAC WERE TOLD ABOUT IT NUMBEROUS TIMES BY EVERYONE CALLING THEM!! THAT PUPPY'S LIFE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS ANY HUMAN LIFE AND THEY JUST DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT IT FYI: The owner of the puppy was arrested during the weekend ( probably Friday of Saturday) today is Tuesday.

Even if we already have dogs, we will make room for one more, because the shelter is over-full; or because the dog is deteriorating there; or even because the dog is sick and needs a place to convalesce. (Those of you shopping for dogs like they are merchandise may be surprised by this. Yes, people deliberately take home old and sick dogs!). This does make it harder to adopt the dogs in fosters, but *it is better for the dog*. It also allows for a bit of distance between abusers and dogs. Post Script for people who want only bred dogs: read about inbreeding, and then if you still want a dog with genetic problems, go pay a breeder.

Last night, she got up from laying down and was hopping, using only two legs. Yesterday was Easter Sunday and I left a message about the deer. By 8am, a sweet woman called back and said a warden would come see the deer today. By noon, Deputy Mastin was here, evaluating the deer. Deputy Mastin said she was using three legs today! He said she can definitely survive like that. He was wonderful to talk with. I wasn't able to sleep at all last night, thinking of the deer suffering. We currently only have 2 male dogs, one which is not neutered. They basically told us that was not good enough and all of them must be neutered. How does that make any sense? We're trying to give Teddy a good home. Because of this places policies that's not going to happen. We have experience adopting dogs. Earlier this year we adopted a male from our local dog pound that required at $5,000 surgery that we had done for him. I hardly ever leave reviews but this place makes it much more difficult for loving penitential adopters to rescue an animal.

In comparison to the SPCA and others, STAF actually takes the time to make sure every pet is super healthy and well groomed. I was amazed at how much care they give their rescues. They REALLY work hard on behavior issues and training too. The effort their volunteers put in is beyond outstanding. These people are true people pet. Adopt a dog from STAF or go pay them a visit. I have supported this place for a long time and shared their statuses and thought they were such an…read moreamazing place until I adopted a puppy and they offered zero solutions and took zero responsibility and the fact that nobody told me even though it was in the paperwork that I did not have reviewed with me before leaving with him that he had Giardia and now my old senior dog at home has caught the Giardia, which is contagious after treatment and getting a negative result from being tested to check for it again, it is contagious for weeks after treatment and they did not tell me that when I took this puppy home and I have the sensitive senior dog at home now that is pooping diarrhea from Giardia and extremely sick just a few days after this puppy getting here. When I insisted that they take responsibility and that they did owe my dog medication for Giardia because nobody disclosed this to me when adopting this puppy they told me that that's my opinion and that I can take him to my own vet or pay at their vet for the treatment even though they kept admitting that this puppy did have Giardia and they were belittling and gaslighting and disrespectful at a time in my life where I am going through a lot, and I have had the patience of a saint, with this puppy, cleaning up his pee every five minutes and taking him outside every five minutes through the night without sleep and trying to train him and now my own dog that I've had for 13 years since the beginning of his life who only weighs 8 pounds is pooping himself to death right now and I have to take him to a vet and pay for treatment for a sickness that I didn't know the dog I was adopting from the league had. They will be rude and they will take zero responsibility. I will 100% admit any time that it's my own fault that I did not sit and look in detail at the paperwork before taking this dog home and the chaos of the adoption. But I will say that the shelter did also admit that they only disclose information on current illness not previous illness if it's been treated. Well, also admitting yes, even if it is contagious after treatment because I asked and the answer I got was yes they will not disclose that if it's already been treated. Be very careful about the details on the pets you adopt because every animal deserves love and every animal deserves a home and and I'm heartbroken to the point of sobbing right now while I'm writing this from sadness and frustration for this poor puppy and my own dog and because my mental health cannot take this right now, and I do not have the financial means to take care of this kind of problem, hardly for my own dog and I'm upset at the fact that at this point for my own health and my child's health and my dog's health that I already had. I have to take this puppy back because of Giardia being contagious for weeks even after being cured and now I have to do even more deep cleaning at home after all of the hard work I've already done cleaning up after him trying to help him get settled in, and my son already fell in love with him, but my son gets sick really easily and my dog gets sick really easily and more I do too so for the sake of my own family's health, I'm taking him back to the shelter and I should've looked into things more and asked about any previous illnesses, but I just thought that the leak for animal welfare was better than that. I'm not giving up on my own dog who could potentially die from this because he's so sensitive to everything and has almost died from previous illnesses. They seemed like really cool people and a really awesome place and it turned out to be very opposite of that. I'm not saying they don't care about animals, but they definitely don't care enough about people. I also wanna make it really clear that I did not yell at them on the phone and all I did was express my feelings and express the fact that they would be upset if they were in my position and someone did this to a dog that they had for 13 years since they were a puppy and wouldn't take responsibility, anyone would be upset in this position. Even though we arrived around closing time, we were given time alone to bond with the dog and make sure it was the right fit. We could tell the animal was well cared for and the staff was very friendly. The dog had been micro chipped and received vaccinations. We were allowed to bring the dog we already had to make sure it would get along with its new companion. All in all, it was a good experience and we are happy customers enjoying time with our new family member.

Terrible system that requires you to set up everything through eventbright, which is a pain of its own. I volunteer at AFHS and it took going to one meeting, then going back one time and working with one of their mentors for about an hour to get you going on the easy dogs, then was just as simple to move up to the next level of dogs. I guess they must have all the volunteers they need to make this such a difficult experience.

Since they are older the cat they were trying to adopt was 7 years old! ASPCA says in 2024 273,000 cats were euthanized, but my parents couldn't free up a space for one more to survive.
