I went in to buy a 20 gallon long tank because none were available at Petco or Petsmart, at the time. They charged me 60 dollars just for a standard 20 gallon long. Every place else that does have them, sell for half that price. So will I be back? Nah. Too far out of way. Employees are rude, there is one guy there that is kind and helpful but the others are awful. Fish warranty is only 24 hours because they say "our fish are good" well that has not been the case in our experience. We've spent hundreds here, so it's not just a one off experience. Tried to give a local place a chance. People slam the chain pet stores but world of pets is no better, dead fish in MANY tanks, selling unhealthy fish, ridiculing you when you ask questions, etc. at least at the chain places they have better warranty for fish. Bought 2 geckos, one it turned out had tail rot (my brother noticed it in a photo I sent within 16 hours of bringing it home, he has had lizards). I took it back (was told to wait until another day when a vet would be there). When I brought it in, yes it had severe and NOT day old rot, then I was basically BLASTED with" the terrarium is too dry! You need to do your research!!!" Well, I did, and research said do NOT spray or wet your terrarium until you take the little guy in because this just causes mold, more infection, etc. Then they tried to SELL me new feeding items etc. which had NOTHING to do with the damaged live product they sold me!!!! These arrogant jerks were simply mean. I will never go back, not even to get my refund. There are MANY other great places nearby for taking care of my geckos and other pets. read more

Have been having a water tank for a few years. Purchased fish from World of Pets and within a week, the fish obviously had a disease. Killed most but 1 of my fish. Not the first time this has happened with the lack of care of "pets". This establishment once sold Chinchillas that were neglected. We tried to explain to owner what had happened. Not expected a refund, just to inform, was very polite to the person on the other end of the phone call and they came back with a flippant comment and hung up. Sad. Will gladly drive to Blue Hook Aquatics which give excellent service and care for their pets/fish. read more

Do not go here for salt water life. me and my boyfriend have came here to get fish multiple times. everytime we have came here and got a fish we bought them home not even a week they r dead from them being abused. I watched one of the workers try to get one of the fish and smashed it against the tank and the same day once we put the fish in the tank they weren't doing good at all. The workers often come off as rude. The services is not great. Overall I do not recommend this place at all for salt water life. read more

Spent well over a hundred dollars in fish/shrimp/snails. One of the shrimp (not cheap) died within a few hrs. 3 of the fish I purchased were rainbows, 2 males and 1 female per recommendation of the employee. The female was super fat, when I inquired why he stated she may be pregnant. She died within an hour as well, after some research it was clear she had dropsy. I contacted the shop, they made several excuses and wanted a water sample and the fish and shrimp the next day. I live an hour away and had to work it wasn't going to be possible. He told me that was their policy he could try to remember our conversation if I came the day after that but couldn't promise anything. I've never had issues with adding anything that was healthy to my tank. So, after bad advice with a fish, the amount of money I spent to have 2 die near immediately and their (what seemed to be) aggravation with my issue I can't recommend them to anyone. Atleast as far as freshwater aquariums are considered. I will say they were nice and helpful while in their shop. It's their inability to handle the issue appropriately after I had species die and poor recommendation on purchasing a diseased fish that's my biggest problem. read more

After being to almost all the fish stores in central IN, we came down to cicy to look around. Walked into this store for maybe 10 minutes. We were followed around and asked 5 times if we needed help/wanted anything etc between 2 employees- they weren't rude, but to be honest they didn't get a chance to be. 5 dead fish in 5 different tanks (some of which were tanks with peaceful species, only one had a semi-aggressive in it), and a shark with obvious illness in yet another tank. I have been a customer of this establishment for years. Usually if know what your buying here things are fine. However I was in there this past Friday and purchased 12 fish for my aquarium. 6 Black Tetras and 6 Neon Tetras. Basically I'm rebuilding my tank and adding fish slowly to get a good bio-habit running with the goal of having this be a Discus tank. So I brought these fish home Friday evening, today is Sunday afternoon. EVERY fish in that tank is dead. The ones I bought, dead. The fish that were already in the tank. Dead. All of them. Dead. So I've got to back to square one, eat the time and money I put into this tank and start over again. 2 months of work literally down the drain. Ridiculous. You want my advice on where to buy fish in NKY? Petsmart. Walmart. Petco. Any place but here. 2 stars only because they do have some good deals on tanks. read more

I went in last night after setting up my sons new tank, letting it cycle, and testing the water. Spent $70 on fish. As I walked out the owner said if anything happens to any of the fish bring them back and he would take care of it. Both loaches died overnight. All of the other fish are fine. I took them back the next day only to be rudely told it was ammonia in the water that killed the loaches and they would not even give me a store credit. Mind you no fish have ever been in the tank and full API line of products used to cycle it as I know what I am doing. Just to satisfy my mind, I went and purchased a new full API master test kit, came home, and tested the water. Everything is perfect. I have spent thousands here in the past but I will never be going back. I tried to give the small business owner my money, but from now on it's Petsmart. read more

I have no idea how this place has a 3* review. I have been going here since I was a kid. They have one of the ONLY selections left for aquarium fish both fresh water and saltwater. I really wanted to like this place. We like to support local independent retailers. Our initial browsing visit was very promising we really liked the variety of fresh water species that we had been wanting to add to our new 75 gallon hobby tank. The second visit to the store we decided to try and get a few new pets and within 36 hours every fish we got from the store died. I took multiple water samples to the store for them to test and they couldn't find any issue with the water which I knew, we test our water almost daily. The store attendants insisted that they had not had any health issues with the fish and we just chalked it up to acclimation shock so I went on my way no big deal the fish were not very expensive. Three days after all the fish had died and were removed from the tank we had fish with fin rot, ick, and bulging eyes. We ultimately ended up losing two fish that were perfectly healthy prior to introducing the "perfectly healthy fish" that we had gotten from this shop. We will never shop here again and I recommend anyone thinking about shopping here to make sure to quarantine anything that you buy here. read more

This might be the place for fish, but the state of the birds and small animals are just sad. The bird area is dirty, riddled with gnats, and the birds just look in poor condition. The small animals (hamsters, rats, etc) are crowded into the small enclosures with nothing buy food and water; at least throw a cheap toy in there or something. Perhaps they should stick to fish and leave the other pets to another, more well-equipped, pet store. read more

I've been going to World of Pets for nearly 14 years for fish, small animals and supplies. Most of the staff is very knowledgeable, and the selection is good and varies quite a bit. They will also special order about anything you want. My only problem is that since they aren't a big chain, prices on things like dog toys, food, and other supplies are higher than some other places. read more

I used to love World of Pets for their selection of aquariums and supplies. However, their treatment of axolotls is inhumane. They are in 73 degree water, which is way above the 63-68 range. Also, they have gravel in their tank which can cause impacting and death. Finally, they are missing limbs, which means they are fighting due to lack of resources, limited space, and the already poor conditions. When confronted about this, they shrugged it off and said it will only be until they are sold. This is not acceptable for a pet store. read more

When it comes to marine fish they are the only option in NKY. Their prices are affordable compared to other shops in Ohio. The employees are friendly and always quick to greet you and assist you in any way. The fish always look healthy. We have bought several fish with no issues. They don't officially give a guarantee on their marine fish but they always say they would work with you but like I said we have never had any issues. My only tip is if you are buying small crickets look at them first. I have a female anole and when I first got her she struggled eating them. If I'm buying small crickets I go elsewhere but that doesn't affect their rating in my opinion. It's a great business and deserves all 5 stars! read more

Since they are really the only place in nky for marine pets they could boast "know it all" attitudes, but they are great. I have been going here for years and after my last visit, I've decided to take my future business elsewhere. My go to fish store! I have been to most of the saltwater stores in Indy and Cincy but I keep coming back to this place. The manager is awesome but one guy that works there is not friendly at all, don't know his name but he is tall. My kids were asking this guy about Hermit crabs and it seemed to disgust him that he had to help them. The fish are priced decently, all seem healthy, and the live rock is full of life (a bit of aptasia sometimes but easily taken care of) and like no other I have seen available in other stores. It is not just a rock with a little bit of coraline on it, it has lots of good stuff. The LR I bought from there is full of sponges, sea squirts, starfish, and cup coral and a lot more, including 2 porcelain crabs. Since they are a mom and pop store the supplies are a little more pricy but worth it to support a good family ran operation. This is worth my hour drive (one way) for a decent selection of healthy fish. The store is nothing immaculate and does not have large aquarium displays but it has a good selection of fresh and salt fish. read more

This place is slowly becoming my default fish store. They have the normal stock of cichlid's, tetras, barbs and so on but there is one wall of display tanks that always seems to have something unique and less common. I love the 3.00/ dozen of ghost shrimp and have been told many times if I want them to special order something just ask. It's close to work and has that "ok to come and browse without pressure to buy" feeling, and I like being able to walk around for awhile without someone asking to help me every 38 seconds. Most of the staff is very helpful, Although they have a couple of guys that only know saltwater, they are honest when they don't know an answer to a question. The manager seems to know whats up with everything though. What I don't like is the limited amount of freshwater plants in the store. They just started stocking a small amount of potted plants but they are a very good range of ease and lighting. This causes me to have to go to another fish store which I don't like. There is security though cause my second favorite fish store is less friendly and their shrimp are 33 cents ea. I guess I will have to deal with it. read more
