The process of booking a trailer with them was a nightmare. They don't have a website and getting a call back took days after leaving multiple messages. I finally booked a unit for Memorial Day Weekend sight unseen because their rep (Cheryl) told me their website was down. And because of the holiday, they charged a 3-day minimum - which was fine. Drop off Friday and pick-up Monday. That's what the contract stated and what we paid for. However, when we arrived at the campsite on Saturday - the trailer still was not delivered! We had to call them to make sure it was indeed coming. When they finally brought it, they "forgot" to bring the generator we also rented! And later on night 1, after using only about 3 gallons of water, the fresh water ran out! So they also did NOT DELIVER THE UNIT WITH A FULL TANK OF FRESH WATER. And it is highly unlikely they even emptied the grey water from the last rental since it was full when they came out to refill the water. Gross. In addition, the unit was very old and outdated. Pieces of brittle plastic would pop off when we tried to operate basic levers and knobs. When I shared my displeasure with Cheryl in paying for 3 days and only receiving 2, she reluctantly agreed to refund one day of the rental. As of the time of posting this review - she has not refunded any money to me or returned my messages (no surprise). AVOID THIS VENDOR! There are several other options in the Kernville area that provide far better service and will give you a vacation worth remembering. Our friends at the adjacent campsite used a different vendor and had a completely different (amazing) experience. read more

We have rented from KRVT for about 10 years! Each year they drop a trailer for us in Kernville for Whiskey Flat days. The trailers are always set up on time or early. We all know sometimes an issue can arise and if there was every anything (mostly me not knowing how something worked lol) all I would need to do is send them a text and they would resolve the issue immediately. Their trailers are always clean and ready to go! The coffee maker is the best perk and the beds are comfy! We've had the Lodge and the Montana. Loved them both. Thank you Cheryl! Another AWESOME vacation on the Kern River in one of Allen's trailers! This year, my sons (3 month old puppy included) and I rented the 27' Komfort trailer. Large living/dining room slide out made a world of difference!!! My 14yr old had the pullout couch. My 12yr old had the table bed (w/ the puppy). My 9yr old and I had the back bedroom. The awning had broken off so Allen brought us an easy-up. After checking on another of his trailers he saw the easy-up had seen better days.... without me saying anything, Allen bought a new easy-up and dropped it off to our site! Thats the customer service you can expect from Kern River Vacations! All and all, Allen and his Kern River trailer were perfect! Allen sets up the trailer for you. Just call him with your camp site and he does the rest. The trailer was very clean when we got into it.... no complaints at all!!!! New owners with a lot of added fees - fees that are not posted on their website nor mentioned by staff during reservation setup - fees that are added AFTER paying the deposit - including non-existent CA State Park Commission Fee. We researched it directly with the pertinent state and camping agencies... Reserve America, CA State Parks and the even campground host all denied the existence of this fee. The cancellation policy is ridiculous and a refund was being denied ... but when confronted on the fake fee, the staff member (a woman) on the other end of the phone was rude, yelled at us and gave a full refund. Do your due diligence - before giving them a deposit ask them for a full list of fees in writing - then verify that they are reasonable and valid. Good luck and enjoy your vacation. read more

We just got back from our 2 night trip to Kern River at Camp James where we rented the Komfort trailer. This is the first time I've ever rented a trailer, and it was awesome! My boys were so excited! They are 8, 6, and 2. There was plenty of room inside. Jake set it up for us, and he was so nice and he explained everything to us. The only complaint I have is that the bathroom is pretty tiny. Overall, the boys loved hanging out inside, and I loved the convenience. I hated disappointing the boys at the end of our trip because they wanted to take it home! read more

We ended up having a minor, (unforeseeable) problem with our rental and Jake went 100% above and beyond to ensure our problem was resolved and resolved quickly. My family and I recently spent a week up at the Kern river. We rented a trailer through kern river vacation trailers and really enjoyed everything! The trailer was all set up and ready for us when we arrived and everything was very clean and well taken care of. It wasn't till we were home for a day that my daughter realized she left her baby blankey behind. I called the company and let them know what happened and they searched the trailer and found it!! oppsie! i think we turned our hard-core camping buddies into trailer lovers! i rented a trailer for rivernook because my husband isn't much of a camper. our friends were staying in a tent on our site but to be honest with you they spent more time in the trailer! it was so hot outside but it was nice and cool in the trailer. we prepared all our meals and even ate in the trailer. i said guys, that picnic table a couple of sites down is in the shade and they just all looked and me and looked at the dinner table in the trailer sat down, haha. the bed inside was comfy and we slept so well. at the end of the trip my husband agreed to trailer camping once a year! the company makes everything soooo easy...they come to set up the trailer for you and they seemed so happy that they were making us happy! (other companies make you pick up)and the trailer has towels, everything you need to cook and even a tiny bath tub. * i forgot to mention that next year i'll be bringing a blender for smoothies in the morning and margaritas at night! read more

We rented a trailer for 2 nights. When we arrived to Camp James early in the afternoon, the trailer had been setup and there was a bucket outside with cleaning supplies. Communication was a little slow. The first time I called, I left a message in their answering machine and received their call another day. The second time I called because we had changed our camp site at Camp James I left a message and again I heard from Marcy a day or two later. This business is not closed. They are very open and charging erroneous fees. There was a miscommunication about whether or not we wanted to proceed with our rental. My card was charged on June 18th for 3 trailers with no receipt or contract given. When I called the next morning the owner was quite nice and refunded the full price of the trailers. This was a good thing because during our conversation she mentioned that one of the ones we reserved might not be available. Glad we didn't find that out when we arrived to the campground! There was also a fee of $190.25 that the owner did not know about. She had no record of the fee and could not figure out how to refund me so I told her I was going to do a chargeback which she agreed was best because she could not refund something she didn't charge. Quite hard to believe but I did the chargeback. Then I checked my card this morning and discovered that the fee was charged again on July 4th! I now have to cancel my card 5 days before my trip and I did another chargeback. I called them to give them the opportunity to do the right thing and the owner never called me back. Too bad! Thank goodness for credit card protection. Truly the twilight zone. read more

Amazing! My friends and I were searching for a place to rent a trailer for a camping trip we were going on. We are from San Diego and checked out everything from San Diego, LA and Kern county for a reasonable price. We were prepared to haul a trailer from San Diego and then I found Kern River vacation trailers on-line. Allen, the owner, brings the trailer to your site. He sets it up and takes it down completely for you (including emptying the holding tanks). He even sets up rugs outside the trailer so you almost have a little patio in a sense. Almost everything you could need was inside the trailer (toilet paper, towels, dish cloths, hand soap, dishes, utensils, pans, TV). The only thing not provided was bedding (which is completely okay with me). The price was great also. We paid $420 for Sunday-Saturday for a small trailer. We ended up getting upgraded to the largest one for free (the people that had the trailer before us had trashed the trailer we were supposed to get). Allen does require a $200 deposit but as long as he has your card on file, he wont charge your card unless something happens to the trailer. The only "rule" i guess you could say, is that at the end of your trip, you clean the trailer. But the service he provided for my friends and I made it very easy for us to want to make it spotless for him when he came to pick it up. At one point during our stay, we were low on water (we were on a site that didn't have water hook ups and we had used quite a bit of water), I called Allen to ask him how to add water to the tank and instead of just explaining it to me, he drove to our campsite and filled it up for us. I cannot express how fantastic my experience was with Kern River Vacation Trailers. I would DEFINITELY recommend them to anybody looking to camp in Kern County. read more

I've rented from Allen twice now and have another trip booked. Having owned a trailer and knowing what travel process and setup is, I can honestly say this is so much easier. In order to reserve a trailer just call and check availability and then reserve the trailer; I believe there are 10 different models to choose from. You are responsible for booking your own campground spot. The trailer is delivered to your campground and all setup and ready to go once you arrive. The trailers have pots, pans, coffee maker, utensils, cups, plates and a TV; you supply your towels and bedding linens. I'm so glad I found this company online. I wouldn't choose anyone else because the whole process is so easy from start to finish. Allen's wife Marcie is in charge of the scheduling and is a pleasure to talk to. If there is any problem with the trailer Allen is very quick to come resolve it...I've never seen such a hardworking guy with a smile on his face. When your trip is over all you have to do is cleanup and leave and they come haul the trailer away. Seriously if you are going camping in the Kernville area you really must call Kern River Vacation Trailers. Forget sleeping on the hard ground in a tent or spending a lot of money in gas towing your own trailer, let them do the work for you. The cost is perfect and its worth every penny. Had a really fantastic experience renting a trailer from them. Our trip was in late winter/early spring and it surprise storm came in and it snowed - it was so nice to be able to retreat back to our warm trailer (heated) without having to totally leave the view, since the trailer was camped right on the river. We rented the "wanderlust" and camped at the Rivernook campground. I spoke with Marcy a couple of times and she was super sweet and explained how to use everything over the phone. When we arrived the trailer was all set up and in our spot. The inside was spotless!! It was great. Had all the necessities included, you just bring linens, towels and your food. Awesome is the only way to describe the customer service that Allen and Marcie provide. I've been blessed to rent four different trailers from them over the past year and a half and I've had them delivered to Camp James. The trailers are always clean and well stocked. When I arrive they are set up, the air conditioning is on and there is music to greet me! This past weekend, while camping with 41 of my closest "sisters" (www.sistersonthefly.com), my car wouldn't start when it was time to leave on Sunday. I was able to coordinate with Allen and Camp James to spend an extra night after having my car towed to a garage.
