As a proud military family, I feel it's important to share our experience so others can plan accordingly. First and foremost, Spooky Woods only honors military discounts for active duty members, not their families. If your spouse is deployed or TDY, you cannot use your dependent ID to claim the advertised BOGO tickets. Additionally, the attraction does not recognize Gold Star families, which was especially disheartening after my friend--who lost her loved one in active duty--was also turned away. I strongly encourage management to reconsider this policy, as these families have made profound sacrifices and deserve recognition. We attended on opening night and waited approximately three hours in line. While some wait time is expected, better organization could greatly improve the experience. There were fun moments--music, light interaction, and themed characters--but compared to a competitor we visited the night before (which featured a full fall festival and concert guests could enjoy while waiting), the overall setup here felt less engaging and far less efficient. There was also a bar halfway through the line, but guests were not informed during ticketing that a green wristband was required to purchase drinks. After standing in line for hours, many people were understandably frustrated when they discovered this too late. Clearer communication would easily fix this issue. The "Bates Motel" and "Camp Crystal Lake" sets were the standout features in terms of design and atmosphere. However, the actor performances lacked coordination and consistency--several repeated the same handful of lines, and some of the scariest characters weren't even in their designated themed areas. One performer in particular, a female clown with black and white hair, blew an air horn directly into my mother's and my ears at close range, causing immediate ringing and a migraine that lingered for hours. That kind of proximity-based scare tactic poses legitimate safety concerns and should be addressed immediately. Furthermore, the terrain was uneven and poorly lit, with unexpected drops and steps that posed a hazard, especially for elderly guests. Adding proper signage, lighting, or a simple warning at the entrance would help prevent potential injuries. Overall, while there were moments of entertainment and strong visual effects, the experience did not align with the ticket price or expectations. read more

I hate to say this but damn Spookywoods was better than WOT this year ! Here's why I say that before you jump all over me ..... 1- the lines and people were spaced out and you the scares weren't spoiled because it's one continuous line of folks going through..... so kudos for spacing folks out.. 2- new attractions from Bates Motel to ICONs and 2 new ones .... all filled with actors and not a missed opportunity for a scare anywhere ! Love the icons water attractions and trails .... 3- so happy they put pavement down down on the trails so you're not walking over uneven terrain and having the hazards of tripping over tree roots and rocks... 4- each set was done nicely and not filled with cheesy animations 5- actors were on point and didn't break character even in the midway 6- the tractor ride helped keep the crowds between each set so that was key to a good time ! Side note.....If you don't want to wait in line... definitely get immediate access tickets... The VIP line moves but expect to be in it for 20-30 mins All I gotta say is .... Spookywoods... you won't this year and hopefully you can keep it up and be even better next year ! read more

This is one of the best in the area for spookiness. The new ICONS addition is so great! Employees and actors were wonderful. We came early and parked the car at 6:45, got in with no problem. We bought VIP tickets, do your self a favor and spend the extra $10, it is worth it. It cut the wait down tremendously. Only thing that bothered me was that they told me I could not bring in my tiny little purse that was a crossbody. I saw several others inside with them. Be consistent! I was super excited to go to Spooky Woods. It was my first experience at a hunted trail. I was a little discouraged when I pulled up to the site 30-40 minutes before the time on the ticket. Granted they do state that they want you to arrive at the time of your ticket. The time on your ticket is NOT the time your trial will begin. This is for good reason. As you can see in the photo, the traffic to get into site is super long and can literally take up to an hour (maybe longer) for you to get in. I'll get back to parking in a moment. When we finally parked we waited for the tractor (not really sure what it's called) to pick us up and take us to the entrance. Yeah, that creeped me out but I like that it was part of the experience. Walking up to the security line, it looks and give the vibes of the live action Scooby Doo movie during one of the party scenes . They tell you to leave all your goods in the car but make sure you have cash, your card, & ID on hand as they have food onsite. You can take pictures & buy them afterwards too . My friend and I purchased VIP tickets but from the looks of the line we were standing it, it was general admin lol. But that's expected with a HUGE crowd. It's kinda like standing in line at Disney. You get there faster but still takes a while to get to the destination. This is why I like that they tell you to be there at a specific time but the party doesn't start until you actually get your ticket scanned. Our time on the ticket was for 8-9 but we didn't get scanned until a little after 9 . So make sure you don't have plans afterwards. Put on your walking shoes hun! Cause you have a bit of walking to do. The trail was decent. You'll get on a trolly (still not sure of the actual vehicle it was), & I'll just say this was the "scariest" portion for me. It seemed like a screaming competition to me. Nothing too scary about it. Leaving the trail was a bit odd. I know there are shortages currently but the parking guy disappeared when we were getting in the car. The line to get on the tractor was going thru parking rather than in front of it. There was a one way out but you didn't know that until you had to turn around and squeeze down the sides of cars to get out. Overall the trail was decent, going with friends is what made my experience better. read more

My throat hurts from all the screams. The cast, set, vendors...everything was amazing. I remember going to their haunted house 30ish years ago and the chainsaws were the scariest parts. Not now. Scares around every corner. The team and management did an excellent job. The set is spread out over 4 acres and the number of areas and sets is unbelievable. In one area, the floors and walls move and in another area your waking over water, through the woods, a corn maze and then a "downtown" that has soooo many scenes. It's just an incredible experience. I'm going to say it's the Disneyland of haunted houses. Icons was an excellent addition and I hope they'll expand on it. Everything was super organized and streamlined from the parking to the vendor stands. The entire staff on the outside of the haunt were super friendly and the dj was a nice touch. We checked out Spooky Woods this weekend. I'd never been to a haunted house before and my boyfriend is super into them so he took me to this one. Before we went he showed me an episode on the Travel Channel about haunted houses and this one was featured as one of the top haunted houses in the country! I was so scared to go after seeing that!! It was actually amazing and I loved it! We went the weekend after Halloween which was perfect because it wasn't super overcrowded. When you first enter it appears as if you are in a little old town. There's an Apple cider place, a fudge shop, a gift shop, and a place to buy snacks. The Apple cider place has an Apple cider slushee for only $3 that is delicious!! If it's warm when you go you should definitely get one! There are also nice clean bathrooms at the entrance. Then you get in line to enter the first exhibit. The first exhibit is a short haunted house to get you warmed up. Then you ride a tractor to the next attraction. You walk through the woods in the dark with things jumping out at you and you get to walk through a corn maze filled with zombies! That part was really cool because they give each person a laser gun and you get to kill zombies! After that you go through the main attraction which is a ginormous haunted house. It was amazing!! There were creepy dolls and other creepy kids toys, clowns, an insane asylum, and people jump scaring you at every turn! Their costumes were terrific. I had a blast. It's definitely worth the price of the ticket and in our case the hour drive to get there. They also have an escape room, a ropes course, and a zipline. I'd like to check all of those things out at some point too. I hear that the whole place is slightly different every year so it's worth going back every year. read more

Alright. This is the third year in a row I've went. With covid, they took an ALREADY TOO SHORT attraction, and turned it into a 25 minute walk through. You've always had the first area in the woods, then you are taken over to the corn maze that leads to the house. I always thought THAT Needed more. And now you just have the corn maze and the house. We drive from Charlotte to spend most of the time in line... and then it's under 30 minutes. Lol sad. Epic fail. I don't think I'll be back anymore. Time to check out reaper's realm. read more

This was not worth 6 hours of my life. Only 35 minutes were spent on the actual attraction my daughter and I paid over a $100 to see. We didn't go terribly late. The crowds are not managed and everything takes too long except the actual event which was a repeat of what I saw 5 years ago. Next year we are going to woods of terror. read more

To start this place in my opinion is very expensive. Depending on what night you go it's either $30 or $40 per person 10+. On top of that they charge you $10 for basic parking... Another way to milk money out of you. Of course you can upgrade your tickets and parking option for more $$$ read more

The attraction this year was way shorter than previous years. I didn't care for crowded tractor ride. However, the VIP experience was good. We barely had to wait. The actors were pretty good, some were more into than others. The sets were interesting and gory. We got a scare or two in. I really enjoyed hte corn maze. The light was cool. The line for parking was loooong and overpriced. The Apple Cider Slushies were good, but the skip the Apple Cider Donuts. They had a bad batch last night, no bueno. Overall, we left entertained but would probably skip going every year to every once in a while. read more

Went what turned out to be the opening weekend. Things did not work, and understaffed. Too dark in spots to see sets and costumes. New Icon area looked unfinished. Been a fan of this haunt for decade plus but seams like a steady down hill slide. Think it needs to be updated midway area. read more

Honestly it was actually a good scare and it's an amazing place to go to with some friends. Everyone who exaggerates saying they waited over 2 hours are the people who end up going around 9-10 (trust me it was packed by then) . I highly suggest going around 6:30-7. I had a blast with my friends and the food was amazing there! All the characters where so creepy and cool , i swear they are fucking professional actors or some shit. Even tho the food court gets packed and you have to wait like half an hour for some fires (like we did). Overall i had an amazing time there and i guarantee i'll come back next year!!! read more

Oho, is it that time of year again? For creepy crawlers, garish ghoulies and killer clowns? Yes, it's Halloween time again so that means it's time for Spookywoods! A couple of years back I had done the Woods of Terror in Greensboro but now off to the second best haunt in the area... We show up a bit past 8pm and there's a short line for parking. Slashers hover along the line with machetes and axes, menacingly close by. Once we're parked, it's a short walk to the ticket line and we're out to the entry area. Over here they've got some souvenir shops and food stands where you move into another line winding around to the ticket taker. A classic haunted house entertains you with a body hung up by a noose overhead. Inside we go through a slight haunt area and then pop out back where a tractor and cart pulls you to the first real haunt. Over the course of the next hour we run through a ball pit, corn maze with scary scarecrows, a tent full of garish clowns, down through a sewer system and more. The highlights was a bungee guy that pops out of the darkness to scare you along with a laser-lit fog room that gives you the appearance of being neck deep in the mist with scary monsters floating atop. I liked Kersey Woods but have to give the nod to the Woods of Terror for scariness. While Kersey Woods focused on clowns and such, there seemed to be more variety at WoT along with a slightly more advanced audience. But still good Halloween fun at Spookywoods, come out but bring some Depends if you're scared easily! read more

Scare Factor - 5/5 - I should change this to entertainment factor, because while I was startled several times, to me it isn't really a "scary" haunt so much as an entertaining haunt. Please don't get me wrong, if you're claustrophobic, or scared of chainsaws, or things going bump in the dark, you will get scared. But those things pale in comparison to the entertainment value, which comes from a great variety of innovative scares, the fact that you are guided through the scenes and the interactive aspect of many of the scenes. I had such a great time I can't bear to give them less than a 5 here. Actors - 5/5 All of the actors here are volunteers, and man, they are awesome. They obviously take pride in, and enjoy their jobs. They never break character, they get up close and personal. Set Design/Props/FX -5/5 Lots of innovative things here. This was my first time through Spookywoods, so I don't know how much they change things from year to year. Folks who visit every year may get jaded, but I was amazed at the animatronics and the amount of work that must go into these scenes. Length - 5/5 I so didn't want it to be over when it was done. But they end with a great scene, what more could you ask for? And you get a lot for your money. TAKE MY ADVICE SKIP THE LINE AND BUY THE VIP TICKETS OR EVEN THE UPGRADE ABOVE THAT! ALSO BUY YOUR TUICKETS AHEAD OF TIME ONLINE. If not, the wait to BUY the tickets alone can be well over an hr, compounded by a 2 HR wait to get into Spookywoods. I decided to check this one out after being ranked #8 in hauntworld last year. I purchased the vip tickets online and got a discount when you sign up for mobile texts and they were giving it on a Friday, October 9. Decided to go there on a Saturday instead, knowing how the weather will be, I came prepared with my hiking boots. Boy, twas muddy but didn't bother me really. The midway was great--nice music and concession area. The animatronics were amazing. But I personally believe that the scare factor was better in Woods of Terror. read more

You can tell the owner and whole staff put so much effort, time & training into this event and the whole show. We got to sit & chat with Tony (owner) and he was great. You can guarantee an awesome time, great scares, even the waiting area is great with snacks and a dj. Will definitely be coming here year after year and for other events throughout the year. I was super anxious and excited to have Spookywoods be the first haunted house experience of the season. Overall, I had a great time and definitely had a few real scares. The first stop is to pay to park, it's $5, which is a fair cost. Even at the entrance you will find someone waiting to scare you and once parking random "characters" are wondering around the lot to provide extra thrills. We pre-ordered our tickets so there was no wait! With VIP passes we were immediately escorted to the front of the line and the adventure began. After walking through the first house, we were very quickly placed on a tram that carried us deeper into the woods where the real adventure began. Even without the VIP passes I believe getting through the lines would have been quick since we decided to visit at the beginning of October, I could see how someone attending much closer to Halloween would end up waiting in line for a while. There were lots of different themed rooms, I'm certain there's something to play into everyone's fears. For me it was the clown house. Although I feel like I almost missed out on a very important experience that I had seen posted previously on Facebook. The clown house was supposed to have "snow" and the first time my group went through there wasn't any. Apparently the "snow" started later in the night. After completely the clown house, corn maze, ghosts, etc, I mentioned to a staff member that my party didn't get to go through the "snow" experience and they immediately placed us back on a tram and sent us back through. This is where I found my real "terror" of the night, a room filled with bubbles up to my chest and a clown running around with a chainsaw. The bubbles played with your perception, making it very hard to figure out where to step and how to escape. There were many frightening effects and features and I loved my experience at this place. If I had only gone through the adventure once, I might have felt that I paid too much for my tickets but going through the second time definitely made it more complete. As for the vendor stands, some of the food posted on the menu wasn't available but what I tried was pretty tasty (fried oreos). The women's restroom was fully stocked and clean which is a huge plus. I had a great night, lots of screams, and a lot of fun with my friends. I will consider going back next year to check out new attractions. read more

We had never heard of this place before but we won tickets and were excited to give it a try. We drove 2.5 hours to get there and had immediate passes so we didn't have to wait in any ridiculous lines which was amazing. The attraction details were impeccable! Everything was amazing and better than anything we'd ever been to before. I didn't know much about the place before we got there so my expectations were beyond exceeded! The attractions were just the perfect amount of spooky and creepy, I was definitely pretty scared at times! The food was amazing as well and had so many more options than I expected also. I highly recommend the apple cider donuts!! I definitely would love to go back in the future and will be telling everyone I know about this place! 10/10 a great date night with my future hubby! read more

UPDATE: Tony from Spookywoods contacted me directly after seeing this review. He apologized for the confusion and last minute early closing and stated he would give a full refund. I thanked him and then he said would send 2 free tickets to spookywoods to give away to friends (fantastic!) I let tony know that the website was wrong to which he saw that website was accurate. I informed him I was looking on my phone and he took a deep sigh. He said that the PC site was updated but the mobile was not. We had a good laugh as he quickly fixed it and he said that he would take care of us. Great customer service and I look forward to seeing you there next weekend! ORIGINAL: Drove an hour from Raleigh after buying VIP tickets and checking the website to be sure that yet close at midnight. Spoke with a woman yesterday and stated that as long as we were here by midnight we would be good. Arrive at 1130 and no signs of people anywhere. We find a guy in a pickup truck and states they closed at 10pm and that it was on the website. The website CLEARLY has November 1st marked red as a day or normal operations and seeing as how it's a Saturday then it would close at 12. Also yelp, google, and their own website confirms midnight as closing time. Unbelievable. I will change my review once I am contacted as my friend and I would need our money reimbursed for tickets we were kept from using AND driving an hour after employees stated they would be open. read more

I drove two hours to walk through a 20 minute (max) haunted house with one other person after the woman told our group "the less people the better experience" My boyfriend who has never been to a haunted house and was waiting for this experience never got it . We spent $70 to drive two hours ,wait for another 45 mins ,and get a fucking Candy Apple is what it boils down to. The only part that truthfully got us excited was the Freddy Krueger in the fucking parking lot before we got in. I would have given Spooky Woods 4 stars, because this year, (2022) Spooky Woods upped their game. It was better than the last 3 years. However, I'm giving 3 stars (which is very generous of me) because of their military discount. Let me explain. Spooky Woods gives a discount to military & first responders. In the past, you would have the option to either go online to a website called Vet Tix OR you could go to the gate to obtain the discount in person. Vet Tix rarely works. In fact, it's so bad, I personally think Vet Tix is a scam. ID.me is far better and actually works with credentialing & verification. Of course Vet Tix didn't work this year either. However, when I got to the gate this year, the lady behind the counter refused to give me the discount even though I had my military ID. She then proceeded to tell me she knew Vet Tix wasn't working, but still refused to honor the discount. If Spooky Woods doesn't want to give a discount, they should say so from the get go instead of lying to military members. It was very shady the way Spooky Woods handled the situation. I will definitely remember this next year and future years going forward especially since Spooky Woods ratings dropped from the top five haunted attractions to top 13 as an "honorable mention" & drastically increased their prices while not keeping up with their competition in scares or pricing... which all boils down to Spooky Woods is way overpriced. I paid less to go to Scarowinds & Busch Gardens...Both were definitely 5 Star attractions && both honored their military discounts unlike Spooky Woods. They also dropped the number of nights you can go & they make you stand in line even with VIP & immediate access passes. The attraction itself was 40 minutes. I stood in line for 2 hours waiting to go even though I had VIP passes. Like I said, I'm being very generous giving 3 stars. read more

I've been in the entrance line for 2.5 hours. This is NOT an exaggeration and I'm not even close to where the attraction starts. Patrons should be warned about a 3+ hour wait time at the time of Parking. Unacceptable. *Edit: it's been over 3 hours in the entrance line now **Edit: Including being in line to park, we waited over five hours to start the attraction. We arrived at 8pm and left at 2:30am. This is my favorite place to go for the Halloween season. I have been going every year for 6 years ( An almost 2 1/2 drive). It changes every year and the details they put into it are amazing. I always tell all of my friends and family that it's the best haunted attraction and they need to go. Me and my newly engaged fiancé went together for our third year in a row and we were so excited! We bought VIP tickets and got there right when it opened because the lines get insane! The details were still amazing and the new Laser Tag in the corn was really fun! (Also, make sure you buy the apple cider donuts. Sooooo good!) Now for the bad. This was the first time neither of us were scared even once! That was so surprising because she gets scared so easily and I feel like you can hear her scream miles away! Haha we were close to the back of our groups a couple of times so I figured that's why we were seeing all of the scares before it got to us. Then there were no spaces between any groups. Being pushes in with everyone really ruined everything, so I hope they fix that next year. We will still be back next year! read more

Has not aged well over the years. Some sets seem incomplete or desperately random. A few very good sets, but these are in the first few rooms you experience. A few good scare actors, the rest are lifeless and project their presence before they try to scare you. Terrible cue system where Immediate access was tossed into VIP. Should have known which one would line up where. They take your picture in the beginning, would have been nice to have, except they lost mine. They used to have more roaming scare actors in the cue, only had 1 this night, and it was the first weekend they were open. Senseless wandering through a corn maze that pops you out at another cattle cue... this killed any spookiness about the maze. Wish it was better... they seem to have lost an art director, anything new seemed rushed and dark. Save your money, go to Atlanta and go to Netherworld, or Scarowinds at Carowinds. read more
