I've been to several mechanics recommended by friends and family, but no one comes even close to Dave Brenner at Kettering-Oakwood Automotive on Shroyer. -I have never had a mechanical problem they didn't fix right the first time. -They are always honest and totally up front about what's wrong and how much they estimate it will cost. They often give me several good options with the pros and cons of each. -They are always reliable and accomodating. -Their rates and charges are the most reasonable that I've been able to find anywhere. It's difficult to find a GOOD, HONEST and RELIABLE mechanic nowadays. Dave Brenner at Kettering-Oakwood Automotive is the best of the best. The work I had done here wasn't done properly. They originally time kept my vehicle for 2 week with a coolant issue, when I finally got my car back it was still leaking and I brought it back, they said it was in fact still leaking and they were shocked the mechanic missed it. Then after another week and an additional fee, I received my vehicle back. Unfortunately, it was still leaking coolant. I finally brought it elsewhere where the leak was fixed in about an hr. I highly suggest you avoid this shop, on top of the inconvenience of my car being out of commission for 3 weeks, the other mechanic said they significantly overcharged me. read more

I was told I needed alot of of work on my car. I went there because it was close and was worried. I was able to get a a loaner car, which was absolutely disgusting, dirty inside, loud, service engine soon light on, chip in windshield. Got a quote and husband called and questioned and they got shitty with him about all the repairs needed when he questioned. I picked my car up, and the conveniently they forgot to plug a coil back in/or intentionally left it unplugged because I wasn't willing to pay for their dishonest repairs. Service writer told me good luck getting home, guess god is in my favor driving a 6 cylinder car with a bad coil and one unplugged, and thankfully I don't have a child in my car. car fixed for $49 read more

While on a 3K mile road trip through several states & provinces, the rear tire on our rental car kept losing air - making it unsafe to drive at freeway speeds. We were unable to convince the national rental co. to swap out the car for another, so were on our own to get the tire fixed or replaced. My sister-in-law lives a couple of blocks from this garage and had previously had a positive experience there, so she introduced us to Kettering! Although busy in the early morning, Terry immediately had his 'tire guy' look at our car. He quickly found a large nail in the tread, removed it and plugged the hole, then assured us it would be safe as a new tire (which he said was unnecessary)! We were relieved! When I asked how much I owed, Terry said "no charge, just tell others about the service you received!" Having always dealt with independent local mechanics I could trust all my life, I wasn't surprised by this 'kindness of strangers' attitude. During the half hour or so that I had sat in their waiting area, I witnessed Terry (and other staff) repeatedly treating customers with respect, offering honest opinions re solutions to their car's problems, and demonstrating in their explanations that they knew what they were talking about when it comes to fixing cars! Kettering- Oakwood Automotive are definitely nice and friendly people but they ruined our transmission!! We had $1500 of work done on our car and 3 months later we had to replace our transmission. The dealership asked if anyone worked on our car recently because there was 9 quarts of transmission fluid in our car when there should of been 4. This caused the transmission problem. It ended up costing us another $5000!! Also, when we brought our car in they referred us to Dayton Transmission- they quoted us over $6100 to rebuild the transmission. We took it to a DEALERSHIP who quoted us $4000!! We had some other work done that added to the cost but needless to say they were not a good recommendation. read more

Not a good outcome! Long story short - they left a tool attached to my truck, that caused more damage than what I had, when I went in. In fact, I still have their compression tester valve as proof! So, if they test yours - ask them how that did it, without the tester valve!! The problem they said I had, was nothing near what I had. Ended up costing me more cash to fix their mistake. They haven't made good on my money back. Bad record keeping, poor front office - so I cant think that the shop is in any better shape (as far as business) Sorry - I wouldn't recommend them at all. read more

I went to that location to check out an Exhaust system for my Lexus 250IS after browsing their website that showed a nice selection of systems, only to be met with a guy (hop) in a little room who was on the phone, he tried to casually talk to me during his phone conversation (cell phone) he said that yes we can install exhaust for cars without being specific about anything, so instead of he telling me to please hold on until he finishes the call, he just continued to to speak in general terms, I told him I will wait outside until he's done with his phone conversation, waited for 10 minutes and no one showed up, I went back in the little office and asked for a brochure that would show which exhaust system that would fit my vehicle or whether I can get muffler tips, he looked in a cabinet for catalogs, and said that he have nothing to show and that the owner (Terry) is out sick, I expressed my disappointment at his knowledge as well as his lack of salesmanship and courtesy to a new customer, he said there are other places that offers exhaust systems in Dayton! On the plus side, they have loaner cars, but it's downhill from there. They don't listen to their customers and have poor customer service skills. We had to return our car to have it looked at because they did not check something I mentioned when I dropped it off. Then, they blamed us for something that went wrong with a repair they did. Upon checking with another mechanic, they said this couldn't have happened the way they said. A dealer also found fault with a diagnosis they came up with. Be cautious before going here. read more

When I moved to Oakwood in 2011, finding a trustworthy reliable mechanic was a concern for me as a single mom with two cars for myself and my children. Upon a recommendation, I went to Kettering Oakwood Automotive and I have never considered going anywhere else since. My experience with them has taught me that I do not have to worry that I am being taken advantage of or told that I needed something done that I did not. The pricing is reasonable and they even completed something for me once at no charge. Last year when I was shopping for a used car for my daughter, I took it down to Kettering Oakwood Automotive to check it over for me. The dealership I was dealing with handed me a "certification" of what their mechanics found and repaired on the car, but I still wanted someone I could trust to look over it. Terry did so at no charge and gave me a list of what they found, which I returned to the dealership with. The Dealership became quite defensive and tried to tell me that my mechanic just wanted to make money, however they agreed to look at the list and again look at the car. Well guess who was right? Kettering Oakwood Automotive! Their staff is always helpful and courteous. They even came to my home to jump my car for me once and have offered a ride home when I needed to leave a car there.
