The service here is 100% on-point. I think you pay for some of that in the final bill, but if "I want my car taken care of with transparency, friendliness, and minimal impact on my life" is how you approach car care, I honestly have never had a more customer-first mechanic experience in my life. I'm glad I popped in here when my battery light came on, and I'll definitely come back. PROS: -Everybody is so freakin' friendly here. You'll primarily interact with the two front desk employees who do what they say they're going to do at a level that's pretty impressive. ("We'll email you a full workup of your car, and if you don't call us within the half hour, we'll call you to make sure you've received it.") -They offer courtesy rides to/from where you need to be. If you need to drop off your car mid-day, they can take you back to work. If you need to pick it up mid-day, they can come get you from work to pick up your car at the mechanic. When I had to take my car here unexpectedly and planned to have to take an Uber, they were happy to get me home at no cost to me. -Full price transparency. Even when working up the work order just to take a look at what was wrong with my battery, the service manager, Eric, flipped his computer screen around and talked me through what every charge was and why it was there before I agreed to the look. After they knew what was wrong, it was the exact same process, with a full itemized plan (taxes and all fees included!) with the out-the-door price to know what you're getting yourself into. -They also run a full "complete car health" check on your car. I'm unsure if you can opt out of this, but it was really helpful, honestly. You receive a full online list of Green, Yellow, and Red items of concern about your vehicle along with pictures and explanations of everything to do a bit of reading yourself. This is SO nice for reading at your leisure instead of feeling bad taking up someone's time while they have a line out the door of customers waiting on them. -Zero pushiness on any service. When I opted out of one of the "Red" services, Eric was super friendly, explained what the potential risks would be, and let me know what a good "you really gotta get this done for your safety" timeline would be. -Car was returned just the way I gave it to them. No extra dirt or anything else. -They were able to get my car done within the day with no problem - even when I came back, without an appointment (see below), a second time! -I never waited in line. With two front desk staff members, there was never a time where I was on hold on the phone or waiting in the office. There was always someone to help me - and fast! -They have an after-hours lockbox for dropping off your keys AND picking them up. I feel so much more secure with my key locked up instead of the usual mechanic placements somewhere on the car. CONS: -After returning my car to me with the issue "fixed", the battery light was back on in my car within a day. Super weird. However, I brought it back in (rides, again, were offered to me!), and they redid the work at zero cost to me. My guess would be one of the parts was DOA when they put it in, and their short test drives didn't trigger the same wear on it as driving home did. -The work was a bit more expensive than my mechanic friends said it "would" have been at other places. Not price gouging or anything ridiculous, but just be aware that it might be a bit more expensive to fund all of those fantastic customer-first experiences you get to enjoy. read more

My father took in his car to get the AC checked to find out what was wrong with it and at first they said it will cost 267$ and then later contacted my father and said it will be 400$ to do a through diagnostic check! When we received the report all it said was that it would need a new compressor and estimated cost would be $1000+ plus the 400$ for the diagnostic check!!! Not worth it and would suggest you look around for another auto mechanic who is upfront about total costs/estimates, which is what we are doing currently. read more

TL;DR : Nice staff, quick job, reasonably priced and thorough inspection. Quoted an insane $1000 for brake pad and rotar parts, and an additional $400 in labor for all 4 brakes. Possibly predatory pricing as my wife went alone. My wife took her car here alone (I was traveling) for a brake issue and what I was pretty certain was mostly a bad ball joint. Starting with the positives. Wife reports very nice staff, they were quite quick, and the paid inspection was very thorough and reasonably priced ($60). The negative. Quite a large negative, hence the 2 star review. They attempted to send her a $4000 quote in "needs immediate service" from the inspection. Thats a whole lot, what's wrong with the car? 50% of that quote was for rotars and brake pad replacement. $1400 to do 2 axles of rotar and brake pads. My god that's an insane rip off. "Parts" for the brake job were listed at $1000. $1000?! how. Are these solid gold rotars? There are few car repairs I can do, but brakes and rotars is one of them. so I just bought brand new semi metallic kits for rear and front brakes. $160 shipped. Still paid for the ball joint and realignment though. $700, not the absolute worst price and I very much can't do an alignment. Secondly they don't appear to price their labor by hours actually spent doing the job. The price on the quote is the price you pay. Not a fan of this. I'm happy to pay high hourly rates for skilled mechanics, I'm less happy to pay inflated flat rates for quick jobs. would have been $400 for labor on the brake job, when the rotars and pads were already removed during the inspection we paid for. it's a 1 hour job if everything is already removed. It's going to take me 2-3 hours to do myself now, but that's because I'm not efficient, don't have a lift, and don't have powered tools to do the job. I can't say for certain because this is the first and only time we will be using the shop at all, but I worry the price was inflated to an insane degree because my wife went alone. that's the only explanation I have for their part costs being so high, but I could be wrong. I'm new to the Dayton area and after only being here 2 months, this is the 3rd mechanic I've been to for various reasons. I'm very happy to have found them. Ryan and Don have both been extremely helpful and have ended up correcting various things not done quite right from the other two shops, one of which I wasn't aware. Plus, they found other things that I'm glad they did earlier rather than later. On top of timely service, quality service, good customer service skills, they even handle the rental car from their own lot. As many of us customers know, logistics is half the battle when choosing a mechanic. We came to the Dayton OH area in 2007 from Sacramento, CA via the AF Reserve and found Murphy's Autocare and Tire a few years ago. They are by far the best Autocare shop my family ever used. Authentic, professional people work at Murphy's Autocare. Diagnostic reports succinctly break down the condition of our vehicles nose-to-tail. When we needed work done this shop was uncannily accurate about the condition of our vehicles, availability of parts, and cost of repairs. I suspected a bad driver front wheel bearing and took it to Murphy's Autocare to confirm and get a repair estimate. Eric was the service advisor who took care of me. (Eric was great!). After confirming my suspicion, they replaced the wheel bearing and suggested a few other maintenance procedures. I was totally impressed by their thorough inspection and service. Additionally, they have definitely taken the COVID-19 best practices to heart. I felt completely at ease with their social distancing and disinfecting procedures. I am in the military and had issues with my home state in regards to emissions testing for registration renewal. I called Murphy's to set up an inspection. The gentleman I spoke with, Eric, said he'd talk to Maryland Emissions to clarify. I just moved to the area from out of state and I came to Murphy's based on a coworker's very high praise. I loved my auto care place in my previous location so I had high expectations for wherever I went next. They were very forthcoming about what they charge and the price breakdown, which I appreciate. I got a full synthetic oil change which I don't normally do, but am interested to see how my car performs - as a result my visit was more expensive than my standard oil change, but not for any surprising reason. They were very upfront about the status of my car; they include a "check-up" for free with the oil change. I really appreciated their digital system - I got a full run-down of my appointment online with all of the details about what they did and what they thought needed attention. Being on top of the digital game is something a lot of auto care places don't have and that's what pushed my review from 4 to 5 stars. The feedback came from an educational perspective about what they found during the oil change, prepared to explain and give context for certain repairs and longevity of updates. I'd like to first put this review into perspective by stating that I naturally approach any auto care business with a great deal of skepticism. It's unfortunate, but it seems as though you have to approach any auto care business with extreme wariness (bordering on paranoia), unless you're dealing with a family member who happens to be a mechanic, a close family friend mechanic or someone equally trustworthy of being ethical. With this in mind and after a great deal of consideration, I elected to give Murphy's Auto Care 2 stars. I took my car here for a simple oil change without looking into how much it would cost beforehand. Needless to say I was surprised to find out it was $40! I've only paid that much once, and it was at a dealership in a ritzy area of Los Angeles. I expect to pay more at a dealer, and even more for taking my car to an expensive neighborhood, but not at a non-dealer in a relatively "inexpensive" area. I didn't feel like walking out and finding a cheaper auto care center as I was short on time and had been putting it off for some time. -2 Stars for being priced extremely expensive. I also got the standard up-sell routine so many of these businesses are infamous for. I hate continually being bombarded with offers for fuel injections, carbo-cleaning and all the other latest fad inventions by the auto maintenance industries. The value of these types of maintenance (in my opinion), is questionable at best, and offering them to an audience that's already skeptical of your trust worthiness only breeds more mistrust. -1 Star for the upsell routine As a side note, I'd like to mention that the mechanic identified a discoloration of the transmission fluid and marked the transmission fluid as "yellow" on his assessment sheet. The transmission fluid had been flushed/changed only a couple months back and less than a few hundred miles ago. After some discussion, they told me that perhaps the mechanic had made an error or that the fluid was just naturally discolored. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but mention that these types of assessments don't put the business in a positive light when discussed alongside the standard up-sell routine. Here's how it sounds to a skeptic customer:(Read this aloud in an exaggerated 1950's radio/TV commercial voice): "Car not performing right? What you need is a precision engineered board certified laboratory tested fuel injection service performed by a highly qualified and experienced auto service agent! And oh yeah, your fluid looks a little dirty, what you need is a transmission flush!". I'm not saying Murphy's Auto Care isn't unique in up-selling these kinds of services to unsuspecting customers only wanting an oil change. I'm only saying they're at best only at the same level as other businesses pitching these types of services, which isn't a bad thing if you're goal is only to be average at best. As for me, I'll continue searching for an honest, reputable business with fair prices that doesn't try to line their pockets by trying to upsell me with a variety of questionably useless services. Ethical? Nope. A place of integrity? Nope. Stereotypical body shop that will try to insult your intelligence? For me, yep. I don't like posting negative reviews, but I am very disappointed with this place. I did my research on repair shops and this place got really good reviews so I had high hopes. I went in to get my brakes checked because they were squeaking and I thought the pads might need to be replaced despite having only 20,000 on my car and it being only a little over 2 years old. One thing I can say positively is that everyone was courteous and that seems rare these days. Anyway, one of the mechanics rode with me in my car down the street to see if they could hear the squeaking or feel grinding, which they did not, but they wanted to take a closer look. A half hour after waiting, I was told that my rotors were rusted and the calipers needed replacing, and that I was leaking brake fluid. I was told that if I drive long distances with less braking I would probably be okay, but that my brakes were going to fail soon and that after probably another month or so, I would have maybe 3 or 4 pumps on the brakes and then I would be unable to stop; basically I was driving around in a death trap. They even showed me pictures of my car "leaking brake fluid" and of my rusted rotors. Of course this scared me, not knowing much about cars, so I asked how much it would be to replace everything. I was given a quote of $800!!!!! I told them, um... no way am I paying that amount. NO. WAY. I suggested that I had an extended warranty on my car and maybe the dealership would cover it. I thanked them, and before I left I was asked to leave a positive review on Google, which I agreed to, but never got around to it. Fast forward a couple of months because time got away from me and my brakes didn't seem to be getting any worse. I took my car to the dealership and explained to them what I had been told at Murphy's expecting to have to come out of pocket at least $200-300 to pay for the deductible. Well, the mechanic at the dealership came to me after having my car for almost an hour and told me that there was absolutely NOTHING WRONG with my brakes and I had a MINIMUM of 6,000 miles before the pads needed to be replaced. He said the wear on my brakes was normal for how many miles I had on the car. I told him he had to be joking. He said that someone was trying to take advantage of me and that he even drove my car down the street to make sure. Of course I was thrilled, but wow, was I livid that I was blatantly lied to by a place that seemed so reputable! I asked them to not go forward with the service, I received new brakes for $60 from another place. They claimed i needed new rotors when all other mechanics later disagreed. Life lesson learned. I will tell my story and leave it to the reader to make a judgment. I let my friend borrow my car for the evening and he returned it with the brights activated. I've had the car a couple years but since I live in the burbs and don't really travel in increment weather I never use my brights. I get it I was an idiot but you will be happy to know I now use them when necessary. I figured he had simply changed something but could not find the switch to bring back the low beams. Now I should have gone straight to the manual but I was being both lazy and a dumbass so I took it to Murphy's, explained the entire situation (including my friend borrowing the car), and waited for them to fix the problem. One of the managers, Don Sword, calls me up and informs me that my multi-function switch needed to be replaced to the tune of approximately $1,000. I tell him I have to think about it. I take my car to another mechanic right down the road for a second opinion. After I explain the situation to him including the part I think I need to replace he looks at my car, looks at me, looks back at the car and adjusts my switch along the z-axis. He tells me if I had not been experiencing problems beforehand that I might as well wait until the part fails before spending that kind of money on a replacement. My low beams come back on and everything is fine, just as it had always been fine before my friend borrowed the car. I take my car back to Murphy's and show him my discovery and basically ask "what gives?" He says he doesn't know but would refund the evaluation fee. Later that evening the owner calls me to say a miscommunication must have occurred but that my multi-function switch would surely fail in the next couple of weeks so he would help me out by getting a cheaper, used replacement part for somewhere between six or seven hundred dollars. No apology whatsoever. I tell him I will pass. Well I imagine two weeks is the amount of time he felt it would take for me to either forget or get over it. I say this because I decided to wait to write this review but here I am TEN weeks later with a working multi-function switch... So what happened? Giving them the benefit of the doubt one might suggest the mechanic simply screwed up during the diagnosis and the owner was simply backing him up. That's a possibility. Perhaps somebody saw a guy who had been paying cash and going along with almost every recommendation made about this fluid or that brake part for two years and saw an opportunity to make some money. That's a possibility. Also, my switch may actually break down one day and in a few years if that occurs I will amend my review accordingly. Chances are if you are reading this review you don't know much about the inner workings of your car. All we as consumers have to go on is the word of our mechanic because whether you get your car back running for 200 dollars or 500 dollars you will never really know what they did to it only how they explained it. This is a big part of the reason why mechanics are often times viewed as scammers and skimmers but also why so many people seek out the opinion of family, friends, and online reviewers before choosing one. I went to this place 3 times and now I'm done. I first when to it cause it had some great reviews in google and here. But honestly if I'm going to pay 45 dollars for an oil change I'll have to dealership do it and they will rotate my tires for the same price. The first time I went to them great customer service I'll give them that. But I got my oil changed and tires rotated and balanced, way overpriced. They broke a lug nut in which they charged me. But their customer service (free oil change coupon I got in the mail) brought me back, no issues that time other than their desk manager telling me I needed to change my transmission fluid (I had flushed in CA before I had left and my car was shipped less than 10K miles before) cause it was discolored, its yellow thats the color of transmission fluid. They also tried to tell me I needed this fuel injector cleaning. Today I brought it again to get an oil change and asked could you look at my brakes they squeak in the mornings. Once again oil change 42.95 and no tire rotation included and to my surprise for them to take a look at the brakes it would cost another 60 dollars... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? All dealerships and places will look at that for free! He also said to do the transmission fluid and fuel injection at a nice price of 500 dollars.... I declined everything but the oil change, I decided after that I would just pay the same price and have a dealer do it now on. I picked my car up, when I got in he notified me that I should think about buying 4 new tires that they would need to be replaced soon. I expect this stuff at a dealer not at a family run company. Had them check out the A/C on my van. The diagnostic fee was 46% higher than a dealership + shop fees. Really $13.52 shop fee on a diagnostic check. They did find the faulty product but wanted to replace other A/C components that were working along with some hoses. Basically they are always trying to upsale additional items. If you listen to them on the radio you get the same vive. The only part broken was the A/C clutch. When they were finished with the diagnostic check they had found over $2400 in needed repairs (a/c clutch plus upscale items). So I paid the diagnostic inflated fee and had the A/C clutch only fixed at the dealership for $948 out the door. Excluding the upscale items, this same A/C clutch assembly would of been around $1400 out the door at murphys. I do believe they would of done a good job, but the dealership (Voss Honda) does good work also and for for less. read more

They charge you $58 for walking in the door and then charge $125 an hour for labor. They are the most expensive shop in Beavercreek. A dealership is cheaper. Stay away. read more

I have been a Murphy's Auto customer for six years. And I think they are AMAZING!! With multiple ages and types of cars from an old van to a new prius, they have never steered me wrong. The entire staff treats everyone with great respect. The waiting room is comfortable and VERY clean (like a hotel lobby!) and the magazines are even current. I don't even live in Beavercreek anymore and I will drive out out of my way to get our work done there because it is so hard to find someone you can trust to keep you safe and not overcharge you with the price. They will discuss options for fixing your car and what might be an issue soon and are never pushy. They have never treated me or anyone I have seen there as if they knew more about cars than you do (even though of course they do!) I have sent many friends there and they have been very pleased. If they say your car will be done by a certain time it will be. And if they say they will call when it is done, they really will!! I wish more businesses were run like this one. read more

I originally called Murphy's for a brake change. The last time I got my oil changed, the mechanic (not Murphy's) did a full inspection and told me the brake pads were thin and needed replacement very soon. Since murphy's was closer I decided to go with them. When discussing the issue on the phone before even taking the car in I had to twist they guy's arm to give me an estimate. He kept saying they would need to do a full inspection before he could tell me anything. Fine, I understand that. FInally I was able to get a tentative price for a brake change, which was $300-$500. I dropped the car off and he said he would call about what needed done. OH MY, I didn't know what was about to hit me. Murphy's sent an e-mail of a long laundry list of things needing to be done. No prices listed. They wanted to replace the serpentine belt, change the brake pads AND roters, clean the fuel injectors.. and more that I can't remember. My boyfriend decided to call them to discuss the new list, and turns out the price sky rocketed to $1200. When asked about the roters the guy said to do a "full" brake change they had to switch out the roters. Were they scratched or worn? No. What is there thickness? 8mm. (For my car the roter thickness was recommended to be between 9mm and 7.5mm) But the guys still insisted on changing the roters also because he insisted they couldn't just change the pads. "It wouldn't be a FULL brake change" Apparently it is standard practice to change the serpentine belt at 50,000 miles but not necessary. He still insisted on this being done. After it was all said and done I went to pick my car up and paid a $30 brake inspection fee, nothing else. I took my car to a family member and hour away. He changed my brake pads and said the roters looked brand new. He also said the serpentine belt could be changed at any time, and to do it when I had some extra funds to spend on the car. Don't go to Murphy's!!! I felt cheated by them. It's possible they scam women due to our percieved lack of car knowledge. I previously when to Chris's Autohaus and had a better experience. Came in to get an oil change. They were very up front about pricing and even brought my car filters over to me and explained that they should be changed, I asked the cost and they let me know it'd be about $40 each with labor, and were also up front and told me the part itself is $10. I appreciated the honesty and decided I'd rather pay to get it done than have to do the work myself. Most places I've been to wouldn't come out and say how much you can save doing it yourself and give you the option. I didn't feel pressured, I felt informed to make a decision which I greatly appreciated! They also warned me I need to prepare to get a turbo engine maintenance cleaning in the next year and let me know about how much that'll cost me so I can prepare for that and not be caught off guard by the cost when the time comes. Also, wifi and coffee (good coffee!) in the waiting room so I could answer work emails and get charged up for the day. I appreciate these guys taking their job seriously and teaching me how to take care of my car, they definitely care about the work their doing. read more

avoid this place like the plague.....took my tire in to have it patched, and i suppose its my own fault for thinking this was a mom and pop business but it was as about mom and pop as a mcdonalds. lets start off with they insisted on removing the tire from the rim to do a full inspection of the tire. i was a little hesitant of this since i had 3 kids at home with a sitter and i only had a short time to get this taking care of, i did call ahead and made an appointment and i was told it should take about 30 minutes. after the first 30 minutes their counter guy came out trying to sell me a list of repairs because "they were recommended by the manufacture past a certain mileage" so he basically just read the owners manual from the glove box to me. every one of those services had already been done to my car. another 20 minutes pass and he tells me the inside of the tire was damaged past the point of repair and it would be over $200 for a new tire, frustrated over the time it had already taking them just to get to this point i agreed to an overpriced tire. well another 30 minutes and they tried to sell me on more flushes and changes, like a child with a short attention span they seemed to have forgotten i came in for a tire repair. the final straw was when they told me the final bill would be about $450 (another $150 to replace a tire pressure sensor and $50 to program it). the programming is nothing more than turning the key in a sequence and pressing the brake petal, not exactly worth $50. the counter guy looked shocked i wasnt gullible enough to pay this. while i was there for over 2 hours i heard them sell more than a handful of unnecessary repairs mostly to the elderly and even signed them up for a credit account when they didnt have the money. i agreed to pay 30 for there time and even tipped the mechanic doing the work an extra $20 for his time, that was a mistake. when i got home i was able to take the lugg nuts off with just my hands and no tools.... this is real bad because that tire could have fallen off at anytime. also when i took my tire to another shop they said the only damage to my tire was done when they removed it from the rim and the leak was a faulty valve stem. i ordered the tps and valve off line for $35 dollars and they put it all back together for $35. the moral of this is dont fall for the smile and free coffe, these guys are some very polite crooks. read more
