The Good: The history of the John Alden designed schooner is worth reading before you go. We had some more "salty" members of our group that recognized the name of the schooner from the 1956 movie "High Society" starring Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra and after that we were on board for a wonderful time. We even were seated in the seats once occupied by Gene and Bing. We purchased our tickets after being approached by Terry who negotiated a decent price with us because he wanted a full boat for the next trip. Captain Bill was an experienced Captain and is well known in the area. He got us underway and was a delightful host regaling us with stories about the "True Love", Seneca Lake and surroundings, as well as, some stories about racing the "True Love" and his crew, Spencer and Marena. Captain Bill even assisted another sailing boat that was in distress and precariously close to the lake edge. The trip was two hours long and on time. The crew served non-alcoholic and adult beverages (some free, some for a price) while underway and also sold some souvenirs (Whisky and glasses). The Bad: There was nothing bad, from start to finish, this was a very enjoyable trip and the crew definitely enjoyed sharing their love of the "Trie Love" with the joyful passengers. The Ugly: Absolutely nothing other than we could not be out for longer. If you find yourself in Watkins Glen, this is definitely an enjoyable to kick back, relax, and let the wind fill your sails. I saw several playgrounds for young kids. Each of three campgrounds had their own wash house. The one, near my campsite, was really nice! The campground was well maintained and clean. They allow pets but please note most sites don't have RV hookups. Price after fees was $36.25/night.

My boyfriend and I booked a one hour trail ride for a Saturday morning while we were visiting the Keuka Lake area. The team at Mountain Rose communicated effectively with us about moving our ride to the afternoon to miss the rain moving in. We had the most incredible afternoon. From the moment we arrived at the farm, we were transported into something of a movie. With my experience level, we were able to do decent bursts of cantering uphill, and Waffles has quite the motor for a draft! there is such a variety of horses and sizes that there is likely a personality to fit any person (within reason). on the hilltop boogie ride, the farm we passed through was beautiful and it was fun to see the other animals. The trails were beautiful as well, with red-tailed hawks soaring overhead, bucks leering at us warily through the trees, and various other critters to spot from the trail. All the staff was friendly, sharing jokes and quips before and after the ride when we passed by. The solo fee is extremely reasonable, as was the price of the ride itself. For those who haven't experienced it, the creek crossing would be fun! I guide beginner trail rides for work in Pennsylvania, and I learned a few helpful tricks and ideas to implement over there. I can confidently recommend this facility, and Zoe as a guide!

I'm a confident rider and got a great horse for me where my husband isn't as confident rider and he was paired with a sweet easy going horse, Faye. Actually all the horses are sweet and wonderful. We did a one hour trail ride. The trail was fun - not too challenging and we even got to stop by a beautiful creek so the horses could take a drink. It's absolutely magical & no better way to see the beauty of this region. Now the horses: They are all beautiful, very healthy and thus happy. You can get to know them on the Painted Bar Stables website! Many are rescued and have been revitalized by being in this wonderful place. I can't wait to return.
