Set sail for True Love, a truly enjoyable time!…read more Bottom Line Up Front: We had a wonderful, relaxing, and fun time for a good price. The Good: The history of the John Alden designed schooner is worth reading before you go. We had some more "salty" members of our group that recognized the name of the schooner from the 1956 movie "High Society" starring Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra and after that we were on board for a wonderful time. We even were seated in the seats once occupied by Gene and Bing. We purchased our tickets after being approached by Terry who negotiated a decent price with us because he wanted a full boat for the next trip. Captain Bill was an experienced Captain and is well known in the area. He got us underway and was a delightful host regaling us with stories about the "True Love", Seneca Lake and surroundings, as well as, some stories about racing the "True Love" and his crew, Spencer and Marena. Captain Bill even assisted another sailing boat that was in distress and precariously close to the lake edge. The trip was two hours long and on time. The crew served non-alcoholic and adult beverages (some free, some for a price) while underway and also sold some souvenirs (Whisky and glasses). The Bad: There was nothing bad, from start to finish, this was a very enjoyable trip and the crew definitely enjoyed sharing their love of the "Trie Love" with the joyful passengers. The Ugly: Absolutely nothing other than we could not be out for longer. If you find yourself in Watkins Glen, this is definitely an enjoyable to kick back, relax, and let the wind fill your sails. I loved my site with trees secluding me from my adjacent neighbors. I biked all around the site and lake. The lake looked awesome for swimming, fishing and boating access. I saw several playgrounds for young kids. Each of three campgrounds had their own wash house. The one, near my campsite, was really nice! The campground was well maintained and clean. They allow pets but please note most sites don't have RV hookups. Price after fees was $36.25/night.

With my experience level, we were able to do decent bursts of cantering uphill, and Waffles has quite the motor for a draft! there is such a variety of horses and sizes that there is likely a personality to fit any person (within reason). on the hilltop boogie ride, the farm we passed through was beautiful and it was fun to see the other animals. The trails were beautiful as well, with red-tailed hawks soaring overhead, bucks leering at us warily through the trees, and various other critters to spot from the trail. All the staff was friendly, sharing jokes and quips before and after the ride when we passed by. The solo fee is extremely reasonable, as was the price of the ride itself. For those who haven't experienced it, the creek crossing would be fun! I guide beginner trail rides for work in Pennsylvania, and I learned a few helpful tricks and ideas to implement over there. I can confidently recommend this facility, and Zoe as a guide!

Here's why: Erika, the owner, takes the time to learn about each prospective rider before you come so she can pair you with the perfect horse. So be sure and take the time to let them know in the online questionnaire how you are with horses and riding. I'm a confident rider and got a great horse for me where my husband isn't as confident rider and he was paired with a sweet easy going horse, Faye. Actually all the horses are sweet and wonderful. We did a one hour trail ride. The trail was fun - not too challenging and we even got to stop by a beautiful creek so the horses could take a drink. It's absolutely magical & no better way to see the beauty of this region. Now the horses: They are all beautiful, very healthy and thus happy. You can get to know them on the Painted Bar Stables website! Many are rescued and have been revitalized by being in this wonderful place. I can't wait to return.

Big ol' Greg immediately busted out the hard stuff, and right when I was wanting some ice cream they made it right in front of me! I could go on for a long time, but I'll just list the Pros and the (very few!) cons below. Pros: Best All-Inclusive dining I've had. The ice cream and liquor never stopped! They make other foods too, and if they can't make it they'll go get it. Lots of blankies. You'll never get cold. If you do get cold, don't call you friend Matt and ask for the concierge while he's sleeping. He'll hang up! Very welcoming. Many people aren't used to very lifelike stuffed doggies and contact an insane asylum. Not here though! Beautiful scenery. After a great day of going to see the city of Corning or the lake near Watkins Glen (both are close! You just have to steal a car or truck. My credit score isn't very good. Oh no) there's nothing better than sitting down on the porch or comfy sectional sofa in the great lodge room to watch the sun set. Cons: Hard to find. Like very hard to find. If Matt wasn't a totally righteous frontiersman with a tomahawk we would have gotten lost and starved (ok Matt isn't that cool. I'm just hoping he'll read this and buy me ice cream) Dangerous Wildlife. The deers kept staring at me through the window. I bet they're in cahoots with the angry woolly mammoth that's been after me. We had a…read moregreat time with a private hour long trail ride with the husband and wife who own the stables with 17 horses. They are a small business and do not advertise much, which is why they do not have a website. Very good pricing especially when compared to other stables in that area. They were easy to talk to, personable, and nice enough to call me later that evening to tell us where fireworks (for the 4th of july) were happening since we were searching for a place to watch them. Great find!
