I had a horrifying experience at a nearby hospital with a great reputation, and now the only dermatologist I trust is Dr. Pinski. Dr. Pinski quickly and correctly diagnoses his patients, charges fair prices and really cares about his patients and their total well being. Now I have been to him many times and he has never tried to give me procedures I didn't need for the money as others have. I have been extremely happy with all the work he has done for me and have also witnessed the amazing work he has done for my friends and family. I can't argue with Dr. Pinski's work. He removed two moles with minimal scarring while previous procedures look like gangrenous gun shot wounds. He and the medical staff are very friendly and professional. The procedures and treatments that he and his former PA have prescribed over the years have always worked for me. Where things go bad is the office staff, and reading the other reviews, I'm not the only person who has had this problem. Every step in the appointment process from making the appointment to checking out makes me feel like I am a nuisance to them. I am frequently made to wait up to 30 minutes in waiting room or examination room which tells me they're over booking. On one occasion I nearly had to leave before seeing the doctor in order to catch a train. In fact I was getting dressed when Dr Pinski finally got to me. He was sympathetic to my situation and quickly checked me out and finished up my paper work to get me on my way... but his office staff could not care less about the predicament that THEY put me in. The check out clerk gave me attitude when I told her I needed to catch a train or I was in big trouble, and she still made me wait for "paperwork". The "paperwork" ended up being a useless receipt and some printed instructions which really didn't justify making me run through the Loop to Union. I've also talked to the surly accounts receivable clerk that another reviewer mentioned. If she's having a bad day, she has alot of them. So here's the thing. I used Two paragraphs praising Dr. Pinski, and Five on the office staff. I still recommend him to my wife and friends, but I give them the full disclosure that I'm sharing with you. As someone who has many more moles that will need to be removed and has been butchered in the past, I can't recommend Dr. Pinski enough... the bad service matters for a few minutes, but scars on my back will follow me my entire life. read more

I would seriously advise against going to Dr. Pinski. When I took the five prescriptions he wrote me (which seemed like a lot) to be filled, the pharmacist told me the prescriptions specifically indicated that they could not substitute generics. The total cost would be hundreds of dollars, versus approximately $70. To request generic substitutes, Dr. Pinski's office made the pharmacy submit a request in writing, took several days to respond, and even then only approved one generic substitute. The entire experience was inconvenient and ineffective. His office was totally chaotic and I spent at least half an hour in the waiting room. After all the hassle with the prescriptions, his proscribed regimen didn't even work. Finally, I have very decent insurance, and rarely have to pay anything above the co-pay. On top of everything, I received a bill from their office for an additional $100. Unless you have time and money to waste, avoid Dr. Pinski. read more

Although some here have had bad experiences, I've never had any trouble with Drs. Pinski or their office (aside from the surly accounts payable clerk who could have just been having a bad day). I have been going to this office for over 5 years. Their physicians assistants are terrific and always helpful and the office has bent over backwards to get me in if I had a problem. Dr. Pinski is your average Dermatologist...nothing more, nothing less. He'll get the job done...no small talk or anything else. I guess that makes him efficient...he usually runs on time. That's why I give him 3 stars. He's been treating me for my acne problem since March of this year and I've been to the office several times. His office seems to specialize in Cosmetic Dermatology, but they also take care of general derm problems. My only complaint is the office hours, as they are only open from 8:30-5 weekdays only, and the Dr. isn't in the office on Thursdays. Update 11/8/07: I've added another star. Dr. Pinski now has 2 very personable Physicians Assistants. They'll take the time to get to know you and any problems you might be having. I'd also like to add that while the Dr. isn't in the office on Thursdays, his Physician Assistants are. They can do pretty much anything the Dr. would do. I've found that wait times are very short on Thursdays. read more

My appointment and follow up at Dr. pinski"s office, was something I have never experienced before. When I was in the patient room the nurse examined me and said to use a cream that came from his office, and come back in 2 weeks. I asked what the price of the cream was, she said $40 to $45. When I got to the front desk, they said it was $65. I questioned the price, but they said that was what I needed. Went home and used the cream on my foot and ankle area, that evening, like they said to do. Within an hour of using the cream, I had a lot of pain and looked at the area, and it was covered in blisters, and very red and painful. I called the office the next morning., and all they could say was don't use that cream anymore. Then said just use the other cream that I was using before I came to the office. Then come in on my appointment in 2 weeks. No followed up on this issue, to see if I needed antibiotics or for the horrible allergic reaction that lasted for 2 days. But did not get any better , til I went to another Dermatologist to help fix the damage the cream caused me. So I spent $65 for a lot of pain and no follow up, unless I waited over 2 more weeks. I would not recommend Dr. Pinski"s dermatology office. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Pinski's for a couple of years, being treated for adult acne. It's always easy to get an appointment, the new office is very nice, and the staff is, as well. I regularly see one of his Physician Assistants, Renate, and she's great. Very flexible in developing a treatment plan, and always friendly and helpful. VERY unfriendly staff. Receptionist and staff laugh and joke amongst themselves but turn off the smile as soon as they interact with a patient. On top of that they make no attempt to update you on how long you'll have to wait for the doctor and after waiting for 20 minutes without a peep from the otherwise chatty receptionist, I left. I was sorry to read the bad reviews. I had an appointment at 3:45 on Tuesday. By 3:50, I was in Dr. Pinksky's office waiting for him. By 4:00 he was there. I didn't have anything major wrong, he prescribed some ointments, even gave me a couple of samples and sent me on my way. Fortunately, he has a lot of prescriptions in the office so I didn't have to go to Walgreens to have anything filled. I've been a patient since his office was on W. Washington. I was very dissapointed with their customer service. I never even saw the doctor. I scheduled an appointment with their esthetician. Rushed from the far north suburbs for the appointment paid for parking and was told by the front desk she called in and theres no one else to help me. I received no call informing me of that. I have been a patient of Dr. Pinski's for 2 years and have been extremely pleased with my treatment (botox and fillers) and have had really amazing results! He's a very highly skilled and caring physician. I was referred by my friend who told me he is top in his field and I totally agree with her! Dr. Pinski gave me an injection for a cyst and told me to come back to continue treatment. After going to Dr. Pinski I went to see another dermatologist for a second opinion. They told me injections are the wrong way to treat my condition and I should have never been give one. Also, I thought Dr. Pinski was not very helpful. After paying for having something removed from my face , I had some follow up issues and called the office. I was told to come in and not to worry, I would not be charged for follow up. I saw Dr. Pinski and he told me he was sorry, there was nothing he could do to improve my outcome without risking scarring. I was fine with this. He then asked if there was anything else. I mentioned I had an itchy area of skin. He looked at it and kindly gave me a sample of an ointment to put on it. This took about 10 seconds at most. Imagine my surprise when I was billed for the visit. I thought he asked "is there anything else I can do" to try to compensate for the poor outcome situation of the first procedure. I called repeatedly and the doctor would never take my call, I was told by office staff that he refused to rescind the charges. It was not until I wrote a letter to his father (who is, or at that time was , also a doctor in the practice) explaining I had originally been referred to Dr. Pinski Sr. but had ended up seeing Dr. Pinski Jr. because Senior did not have availability and the office staff assured me Junior was just as good. I told (wrote) Senior that I was unhappy about the balance due on my account. I never got a response but the bills stopped. The thing that irked me more than anything is that Junior would not even take my calls or call me back to explain his position on why I was billed for this appointment. read more

The issues with Dr. Kevin Pinski's office is his billing practices. My insurance covers chemical peels for acne treatment. I went through the process to get a pre-determination letter from my insurance company sent to Dr. Pinski's office to verify that I'm covered for this procedure. This took all of two months. Yet Dr. Pinski office explained to me that they still want full payment for the procedure today, of course they told me after I had the procedure done that day, and they will "ALSO" bill my insurance for the same procedure and when they are paid by BCBS they will issues a credit on my next service, but I wanted a refund because this was my last visit. Last visit because this policy. Not only is this practice of double billing unethical, but is also unlawful according to BCBS. If this ever happens to you please call your insurance company's fraud dept. and report the incident. Most doctor offices I know will take your credit card information and have you sign a letter stating that if the bill isn't paid within 10-15 days they will charge your credit card on file. read more

While the front desk people were friendly and helpful, once you're in the treatment rooms, the assistants are surly and condescending, as is Dr. Pinski at times. BAD SERVICE! After my son has been seen several times for SEVERE ECZEMA by his office, his Physician Assistant walked into the room we were waiting in and refused to see him because there was a problem with our identification number on our insurance and he did not want to take the risk of seeing him and not getting paid for his services! Well Dr. Pinski Physician Assistant I guess you did not see the $875.00 the my insurance has already paid on past visits and the $20.00 that was our portion that we paid. He did not even offer for me to pay for his services up front and then reimburse me once the issue was resolved. After I called our insurnace benefits office and having them confirm with them that we do have insurance and it was glitch in the doctor's computer, the doctor's office apologized for the inconvenience and said that the doctor could see him now. By this time I was 30 minutes late for work and son was late for school. I told them NO my son will not be seeing him ever again and I wanted all his records transfered to his Pediatrician read more

I had a common cyst on my back, which had become inflamed and erupted...not a pretty site. I was able to get a next -day appt. with Pinski Dermatology clinic the next day. The Physician's Asst. was very nice at working the cyst and "packaging" it with gauze. I was asked where I wanted my prescription phoned in to, and I stated the CVS at Congress and State. Throughout the late afternoon, I took 2 trips and 2 phone calls to discover that the prescription had never been called in. So, I was left with a pus-filled, gaping hole with no ointment or anti-biotic pills the first day. The Dr's office was closed, so I sent an email with the correct information. I received no phone call (other than the robotic call for a Friday appt.) from the office, and no response from the email. I called CVS again at noon, and was told that the prescription was phoned into the CVS at Division and State. Mistakes happen, but I would've appreciated a response to the email and/or a "sorry about the mix-up" apology--I had spent an hour of time during work trying to coordinate this. It also would've diffused the situation enough to dissuade me from making this post. Also, the bandage that the low-level assistant applied was peeling off before she left the office. I told the accounts person that I didn't think that the bandage was properly applied; she left to find someone, but came back and told me that "the bandage was fine." It took pulling down my shirt to reveal that the upper tape was not even touching my skin. The Friday appt. went well, although the Dr. Sulewski didn't change the packing, as I had been led to believe from the Physician's Assistant. In leaving the office, I again was forced to wait to see the "check-out person." I waited 15 minutes to be able to tell her that I already had my next appt. booked for Tuesday. For my final appt. (It was suggested that I come back in 3 weeks, but I feel that I will try another doctor), which was today, May 29, I was present at 10:05 for a 10:15 appt. I sat patiently for 30 minutes before the receptionist asked if I'd been seen yet. 5 minutes later, I was in an examining room, but waited an additional 15 minutes before deciding to leave. The befuddled receptionist stared at me, and I was informed by another worker that the doctor could see me now. The exam took all of 5 minutes, and he did apologize. Now, with that said, I don't go to the doctor office--these types of issues may be common practice. But, I view myself as a customer (after all, I'm sure that my insurance company is paying big bucks). I absolutely hate inefficiency; plus, I'm a teacher and structured my appointments as to not to inconvenience the 30 students waiting for me. I will spend more time in the future investigating what others have to say about a doctor/office before spending money with them. On the plus side, the view from the exam rooms are great (looking over Millennium Park in downtown Chicago), and the art is great--Dali prints were "hand-picked," and line the waiting room walls. I just wish that I didn't have to spend so much time staring at them. read more

I started seeing Dr. Kevin Pinski about 23 years ago, right before my wedding. I wanted to do a series of microdermabrasion treatments to look my best for the big day. They introduced me to TNS products then and I've been using them ever since, which I believe has provided great preventative care as my skin began to age. I've been seeing Dr. Pinski ever since as well, at least twice a year, and I credit him with keeping my skin looking it's very best, despite having spent my teen years baking in in the sun. Recently, Dr. Pinski suggested I meet with Kayla Mannausa, a Licensed Esthetician on his team, for a free Visia skin analysis. Kayla is amazing; she spent time talking to me about different procedures to achieve the results I was looking for. She's always helpful, never pushy, and beyond accommodating; on several occasions, she has offered to come in early or stay a little late to accommodate my schedule. Most importantly, she is a very talented esthetician who provides safe and effective treatments that have greatly improved the texture and appearance of my skin. I get compliments all the time on how great my skin looks. Dr. Pinski has a phenomenal team overall. They are always professional, kind, and do their best to meet the needs of all the patients who visit the office. I couldn't recommend them more highly. read more

My first visit to Dr Penski was amazing....his office staff were very helpful and friendly. I didn't experience any unfriendly staff. I waited only minutes and staff were very reassuring....and helpful. Dr Pinski was more informed about my chronic condition of hailey hailey than ANY doctor I have been to. He also used good hand hygiene wearing gloves and gel on his hands. The office staff was so friendly and competent, I am going back in for another appointment to consult for filler. Maybe since I am a nurse and director, I knew what to look for that shows good care...vs just judging by office staff....either way....he will continue to be one of my favorite dermatologists I have ever met. read more

The staff at this place is ridiculous. First of all there are like 10 of them. With this army you would think they could help you get things done, but no. When it turned out that the dosage of a prescription was wrong they insinuated that this was somehow my misunderstanding and certainly had nothing to do with their office. They even suggested that the dosing was correct because my insurance company would not pay for a higher dosage. When I told them that was not true because I had already discussed the matter with my insurance company and that they would cover whatever dosage was correct they got even more stubborn and demanded that the insurance company get in touch with them!! This is unheard of?!? What doctor's office refuses to correct a prescription that is clearly wrong - even the doctor himself admitted as much?!? Fortunately my insurance company is great and I got a lady there to call up these guys and change the prescription. Get this - the insurance company had to convince these ladies to get off their chair... WTF... I should say that the physician assistant, Steve, was extremely helpful and that I will probably go back just because of him. But the staff there is truly incompetent. I have been going to Kevin Pinski's office for the last 7 years and have been extremely happy. I started in college, at the Kankakee office, going for my severe acne. Keep in mind--some things take time to heal and acne is one of them! However, the care and encouragement I received from Dr. Pinski's office was top notch. Now that I live in Chicago I go to his new office on Michigan avenue. Super convenient and I never have to wait. Literally! Never wait. It's great! I see Kayla for DermaSweep and Renata for regular check ups and I have been more than pleased. My acne is gone and now we are working on just making my skin better. I was surprised to read such mediocre reviews of Dr. Pinski. I've been seeing him for various procedures over the past year and find both he and his staff to be well informed, courteous and personable. They've been extremely flexible with my ever changing schedule, as well. Since beginning my treatment with Dr. Pinski (microdermabrasion, mole removal, botox, acne prevention) I look and feel younger than my 38 years. I found Dr Pinski's treatment plan to be too aggressive and focused on cosmetic issue only without warning patients about possible side effects. I took his suggestion for second and third opinions. All other doctors suggested to take steroid shots every 8 weeks instead of once a week, suggested by Dr.Pinski. Take educated decision for yourself, read about side effects before you listen to anyone. I would say my experience with Dr. Pinski 7 years ago was OK. I stopped seeing him after one time. The cost was very high at the time. read more
