Key Food is very convenient. They have a lot of good sales. Just like all the other stores if it's not on sale the price may seem high but that's the same as other stores. Employees come and go but usually the ones that have an attitude don't last. The employees that have been there for a while are usually very nice. I'm so glad we have this store so close. Would hate to have to go to Commack or Smithtown every time I need something. read more

As someone who shops in the store quite often, it definitely has its ups and down. I go out of convenience. I have seen some horrible things done by the other SHOPPERS!!!! Yelling at the cashiers nocking over displays and unattended children playin tag in the store giving manager a hard time. It goes with out questions that it's a stressful day, on top of a whole bunch more that gets taken out on them. Waiting in line I hear other complain about have to wait an extra minute or two, or screaming for them the open another register, they are working with what they have just like every other place shorthand's due to covid. These workers day in and day out put up with bs from their community working through the pandemic for their community, and none of you can give them a simple smile or a thank you. Groceries. Like the other reviewers noted, this place is way dated. Dull and dingy it exists to serve the basics and not much more. That being said, they do have a lot of interesting items in there if you take the time to look. Sale items are seemingly cheap as well. The deli guy was, by far, the slowest moving living organism on the planet earth. Not only that, he was a drone apparently as he just stands there and looks at you with no reply or even a facial twitch to acknowledge that he has heard you. He merely turns away and cuts the order and returns to the stony expression. Maybe he was high - not sure... The place is small and definitely need a good cleaning. Key Food has been here forever. It is dirty and run down. But come on people look at the rest of the stores in the shopping center with tjmaxx as the exemption. I find the time warp comforting. This place isn't where you do your weekly grocery shopping. It's where you go when you forget something on July 4th, or a last minute forgotten item on Thanksgiving. We do our grocery shopping at Waldbaums down at the Mayfair shopping center but this place will meet your main needs. The store itself is pretty old and worn down, and the employees are local high school or college students. Beware of the drivers in the parking lot, they may look old but if you get hit by a Oldsmobile its gonna hurt! read more

Anyone who has any sort of corporate career knows that successes are always soon forgotten but failures never seem to go away. I am adding a single star to Key Food Kings Park because I have to say, they have stepped it up, albeit very slightly. The produce has gotten a little more edible, with some wider variety. The butcher still kinda sucks as there is little variety of selection (I couldn't even find ground meat burgers there last week neither on Thursday or Friday, only the pre-packaged organic ones or the frozen variety). The prices are still high on a majority of items, and being that it's a small store, there still is a minimal selection. They don't even carry Vlassic pickles. Seriously? Can you even name another name brand of pickles? Because the major one, well, they don't have. But maybe the manager or owners there actually do read Yelp and if they do, I want to recognize your recent efforts to improve (especially in the produce department) and I encourage you to keep up the good work and move it along to the rest of the store. read more

I totally have to agree with the last reviewer on this. I think the reason this location is less than ideal is because there is no solid competition. Also, in all fairness, the store is small so that does limit options. However, I really think of KeyFood as a glorified convenience store. I don't do any shopping there because even with the limited selection, the atmosphere just sucks. It feels dirty, and run down. This place has been a staple in KP for so long but it needs some major TLC. Though it has served me well in a pinch! read more

Everything you need in a local Grocery . Deli , Meat and produce departments all were redone and are good. Salad and Soup bar is handy . Sale items and regular prices are competitive and the selection is good for a smaller store (less walking ) ! read more

Moved into town right after the revamp so I can't compare. However as someone who runs out to Whole Foods and TJs for most of my food, Key Foods in KP is fantastic. It's clean. The organic produce selection is fantastic (although does everything have to be overly packaged? seems so wasteful). The prepared food has been good (only tried sushi and potato salad). I'll be going here more often for the larger weekly shopping trips and probably end up visiting TJs and Whole Foods for the items I can't get at Key Foods. read more

Why God is there only one grocery store in KP? I dread going to this place for so many reasons and apparently, from the looks of the other reviews, everyone else feels the same way. But I also like the meat section--they always have what I'm looking for. The people are nice for the most part (maybe a couple of stinkers, but you get that everywhere). Be careful....food is expired and not taken off the shelf, Deli Dept is not clean, and the store could use a real renovation. Looks like there hasn't been a recent review of this place but it's just as bad if not worse. The place looks like it's halfway through a botched renovation. There's old disused refrigerator cases in the middle of aisles, holes and stains in the walls and ceiling, some walls have exposed beams and internals. There's no wall or ceiling coverings at all near the produce "department." I seriously wonder if that is a health code violation near the open fruit and vegetables. I regret going here every single time and I always say I'm never going back but it's the closest one. Long story short.. This store needs better oversight. I pass this Key food daily on my way home from work but had never done a "big" shopping trip. I recently I decided to stop in and test it out. The store is mostly clean and decently organized. However, out of 3 large shopping trips and one "express" trip, I had problems with each. Most notable were expired items I noticed once I got home or the next day. The worst was a pack of meat that was 4 days expired that I had paid $7 for. Other expired items included dairy and bread. I did call their store each time to complain and give details on the expired item so they could clean the section out. Each time someone apologized and thanked me for calling but I was never offered to return with my receipt for a refund and I'm not dragging around spoiled food so I trashed them and endeavored to just check every expiration date when I returned. And return I did, because it was a convenient stop for me. However, other issues made it impossible to shop here without much frustration. Most of the staff is not friendly. There is an office near the checkout that is constantly overflowing with employees. If you need help in an isle.. Good luck finding anyone. They're all crowded around that office, socializing. I bring my own shopping bags but the one time I needed an extra bag the woman treated me like a theif. I asked for a bag and she hollered "they're not free!!!". I told her I was aware of the tax but I still needed one.. "You sure you only need one? 5 cents each!!! I have to add them to your total so it better be accurate." She was giving me a dirty look and I had to try not to laugh. She made no move to give me a bag (they keep them "locked up", not at the self check lane). So I rudely said "What? Do you want collateral? Give me a bag or give me a manager to speak to. I'm paying for it, jeeez." She was a young woman and rather large and she stomped the few feet toward me and shoved the bag at me. Very strange behavior over a cheap bag. The other time was 3 young guys stocking an isle. It was a quiet Sunday and the store mostly empty but you'd think they were at a bar with all the loud, profanity laced conversation they were having. Most the employees look young, where are the managers to keep these kids inline? I just can't tolerate seeing people treat their job and customers with such disrespect when there are so many people unemployed that would jump to have their position. Okay, while Dan's might not be the biggest and brightest star in Kings Park, as someone who lived and shopped there on a regular basis- I can tell you some of it's best qualities... The meat! The meat in this store is always fresh and beautiful. Stop and shop and the others just don't compare to the fine cuts you get at Pats. The butcher is very, very good at what they do and not some high school reject hacking away at the meat. Italian selection: you want good canned clams, scungilli, tripe, bacala, LaMonica items, Italian espresso? Pat's has them. They really do specialize in the Italian specialties. The bread is good too- not as good as Stop n shop- but good. Cheese. Great cheese section. They also have some plants and greeting cards which is great for a last minute quick gift. They do need some updating and the store always smells like dirty bleach water to me, but it does have it's charms! read more

I live in Kings Park, and while I agree with other reviews that there is no competition, it still serves a great need . Look at the surrounding homes and people it serves. Mostly elderly and such, with a small amount of younger families. I shop there all the time due to it's convience and prices. When someone like me is on a fixed unemployment income, I get a lot of food for a small amount of money. Their specials and use of coupons really do help the food budget.
