I have been coming to this for place since it was in Setauket and I was a little kid trailing behind my parents. I discovered those wonderful Chinese milk candies wrapped with rice paper and have bunnies on the labels when I was around 7 or 8 and still buy them 50 years later. The business has moved since then and owners have changed but I still enjoy going there. The Taro buns, dim sum both fresh and frozen, dumplings, green tea ice cream and desserts, very fresh veggies, and huge variety of snacks makes this a place I try and get to at least once a month if not more. It packs a lot of products for a small space. I wish they had more items and more housewares, but I truly enjoy this place and feel they really serve the community. read more

Absolutely love this authentic little gem. I usually come on a week day but todays Saturday and it's much much busier. I'm on the hunt for these crazy little noodles that I randomly grabbed one day, my daughter is in a frenzy to have more, Elephant something they were called. I guess supply chain shortages are hitting everywhere. I stumbled into some freshly made dishes that were not labeled or priced but you just know when you see good food. It reads Dim Sum large and only cost me $3.50 on my receipt but it was more like a loosely wrapped Shrimp Dumpling. It was unbelievable. I love finding these mystery bites. The store is extremely small so if you are claustrophobic this place may not be for you but if you don't mind a little tight squeeze this place is full of interesting treats. read more

As someone who's live in flushing and near fort Lee in the last few years and legit just moved to Long Island, this place is instantly my favorite place out here. It's small-mid size but definitely bigger than I expected. It's open all days of the week, ignore what the hours on google say. It's packed with all the Asian goodies, mostly pantry stuff, less so fridge or freezer food or produce. Will be coming back at least a few times a month! read more

Tiny "oriental" grocery store in a strip mall. Not sure if they also have crafts but they do manage to squeeze in a decent selection of items and they also carry baked goods, There used to be a bakery in the same mall that's still called Tao's bakery but Tao's bakery is now a restaurant. Maybe the baked goods are from Tao? Prices are comparable to the large asian supermarkets. I picked up a few items like dumpling sauce, bok choi(i could have used that for Splendid Noodle:). tea, jasmine rice and a couple of other items. The place looks old and stinks in the back of the store so I am not sure if I would buy meat there. Stick to the bottled, bagged, canned and frozen stuff. read more

Okay, my uncle told me about this place so being the Asian I am - I decided to check it out and see what it had. It was a normal Asian grocery store, I mean - what am I suppose to say? It has a variety - snacks to soups, seasoning to fresh veggies, and frozen foods, drinks or pastries. It's in a decent shopping center, so it's nice they have a parking lot and it's easy to get to right off the main road. So here's why they deserve 3 stars: Every time I've gone, this place is packed. Long lines, people and probably COVID swarming in the air. I can't fit through the aisle when another person is standing there, and I'm a smaller person. They don't have shopping carts - obviously you now know why. They have baskets.. Which imagine you can't even fit walking past the aisle, and then adding a basket onto of that? The amount of customers they have, that I've clearly seen with my own eyes you can't get a bigger place? I HIGHLY doubt a handicap in a larger wheelchair can fit. If so, I will be surprised. It annoys me to even come here. And I compared some of their seasonings, soups, etc.. Some things are much more pricey than regular places. So if you're cheap like I am, write some numbers down and compare. read more

Do I dare say this place has the best Asian food in Stony? Potentially, but I'm still new here so stay tuned. This is a 2 part review, one on the dim sum and one on the grocery store itself. DIM SUM REVIEW: On Saturdays, this place gets dim sum from a local restaurant. The food usually arrives around 1pm and the grocery store is usually pretty busy because of it. There are tons of options and I've been able to try most of them over the few times I've been there. Because it's being delivered from a restaurant, it goes without saying that some items travel better than others. I would definitely recommend the buns (so FLOFFY and generous with fillings), egg tarts (pop in the toaster oven for the flakiest crust), congee (potentially my favorite), turnip cake, zongzi, and shumai. I would stray away from the chashiu bento box (meat and rice is fairly dry), and cautiously order any of the dumplings made with rice flour (shrimp dumplings, cheong fun, etc). The latter because when you reheat these to eat they're not as soft and chewy as when you would get them fresh, but they're still decent. Decent prices for what you get, although the bigger plates get a little pricier than expected. I've also noticed they bring in banh mi too which I'm looking forward to trying in the future! GROCERY STORE: Honestly this place gets 5 stars for the service. The people who work here are so nice and attentive. They gave us such clear instructions on how to reheat our dim sum for the best experience. The prices here are relatively pricey and the vegetable selection is smaller, but at the same time I've seen a lot of products that I can't find at the hmart near here! Also, keep in mind that you need to bring cash if you're planning on spending less than $10! read more

It's funny how places you've been frequenting for almost your entire life are the ones that you forget to write reviews for. I remember this store as a smaller space a few doors down from where it's at now. This is a no frill, no fancy displays, just straight to the point all the basics and more that you will need for asian cooking or just to eat. The aisles are narrow but shelves are filled with asian sauces, baked good, ramen, classic chinese snacks, veggies, and even chinese dinnerware. The dim sum on Saturdays are awesome and really saves you a trip to flushing. There's always a huge crowd around noon on Saturdays but don't let the line intimidate you, it goes fast and plus it gives you extra time to browse all the goodies you could be missing. I've been coming here for years now... I know! It's been forever, but this store provides the only source of Chinese groceries short of going to Flushing, NY. Don't let the size deter you, they have everything from sauces (siracha, curry, a whole lot of other ones that I can only say in Chinese) to all types of Asian food items such as ramen, szcheuan noodles, pigs feet, scallion pancakes, dumplings, etc... The list goes on and on. They have all sorts of varieties of soft drinks that I can't describe such as the bubbly ones where you pop the ball into the drink to open it. They got teas, lychees and a whole bunch of other drinks. It's basically like a small version of flushing. They also have a whole lot of snacks from candies to crackers to fish and dried fruit snacks. Lastly my favorite part is they go to the city/flushing/jersey 2-3 times a week to replenish their stocks of fresh food which include plain buns, meat buns, side dishes (pigs ear, stomach, etc...) and bread. They have a whole lot of different types that is kind of hard to describe. I'll try to take a picture next time. Every Saturday, they restock all the fresh food, bread, vegetables and get dim sum. They usually come back between 11am and 12noon. If you come here from 12-3pm be prepared to wait an hour in line. Everyone comes... Like everyone. But in my mind, it's worth it if you know what to come for. They get a lot of dim sum dishes like chicken feet, pigs stomache, some pork dish, rice congee, rice wrapped shrimp, cha Sui, etc... You really have to come and see and realize this place is a jewel that will save you so much hassle of traveling far or to a restaurant, especially Saturdays. Did I mention they restock all their fresh bread, snacks, dishes too? I've been coming here for literally years. This place beats everything short of going to Flushing itself, but who has the time to drive an hour to flushing every week? (I live an hour away T_T). This place replaces that need very nicely. I am not a fan of this grocery store. While it is really nice to have an Asian grocery store in this area, it's an incredibly small space and because of that it's ridiculously hard to move through the aisles without feeling claustrophobic or just wanting to leave really fast. They do have a wide selection of Asian foods and sauces, which is really nice, but when it gets so crowded that you can't even shop in peace for them without bumping into someone, then it's a problem. One of the reasons I go here a lot is for their dim sum on Sundays. They usually bring a whole bunch of dumplings, noodles, etc from the city and it arrives around 10-11 am on Sundays. The issue is that when you come to get them, the entire store is completely packed and if you didn't want dim sum and you just wanted to grocery shop then it makes it even harder to go through the aisles (so don't come on a Sunday!) Also, over the past year the quality of the dim sum has been going down. We've been able to get dim sum in the past at 3 pm (when they weren't sold out) and it would be delicious when we take it home. Now, taking the dim sum home after it's been out for a while it gets soggy and disgusting, which is a real shame. read more

Hotpot is an experience where you buy a load of vegetables and meat and essentially throw it together in a broth and eat with a group of close friends. I chose to come here over the supermarket right by the LIRR by Stony Brook, and ended up having to get my meat over there since the meat here mostly suffered from freezer burn. The slices of lamb and beef were grey because of the burn & half of the stock lamb slices were badly burned. 1 or 2 packages were burned for the beef, so luckily I was able to grab a few here. This supermarket is rather small, and I see that they order their groceries from h-mart. H-mart is only a 30-40 minute drive so I don't see why their quality of their meats are so bad since it would be relatively easy to replenish their stock. They have your basic Asian sauces and noodles (authentic - I eat these brands at home!), but are quite lacking in the veggie department. If you are in the Stony Brook area, go to the supermarket by the LIRR or 1089 instead. You will find much better ingredients there, as well as a better lit store. read more

The only Chinese grocery store I can find in Suffolk county Long Island that has plenty of variety and fresh authentic Chinese goodies. Highly recommend coming here at 1pm on Saturday--this is when the incoming dim sum and prepackaged fresh roast pork, chicken, duck, and congee is brought in. So happy this place exists!!! I love this place! I've been coming here forever. They always have whatever odd produce I need when I can't find it anywhere else (okra, lotus root, Thai basil) and of course whatever Asian staples you'd need in your pantry. Pricing is usually better than other places for meats like oxtail and pork belly. The aisles here are very narrow and many products do not have English descriptions, but those are my only two (very small) complaints. read more

Great store to have in Stony Brook area! It's even better when you don't have to head into Flushing or Chinatown to pick up Asian ingredients that are not sold in regular supermarkets. Oriental Groceries have a tons of varieties like there ramen selections, they have literally every brand of Chinese ramen there. They have frozen dim sum like turnip cake, pork buns, one of my favorites the egg custard bun, they have about every Asian sauce you need. For instance soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, black bean, etc. Another plus is they have fresh Bao's there which you can't get anywhere around. They do have a meat and vegetables section. I'm not the biggest fan of that selection. It doesn't look fresh, the meats are frozen and look like they are developing freezer burn. That's the only flaw about this place. This place is inexpensive and you can get a Big Bang for your buck if you're on a budge. read more

They've been operating for at least 20 years and the owners have remained the same since then. It's one of the view places in Stony Brook to get imported Asian snacks (cup noodles don't count) and has a wide variety of sauces, spices, instant packets, vegetables, and frozen goods. The store moved from a few doors down a while back, but still remains relatively small - a lot of things for such a small place. The owners are really nice! I think they get all of their stuff from Manhattan so it's a good temporary replacement for Chinatown, definitely a bit more expensive, but well worth the price! read more

Considering that I've seen their truck many times very early in Manhattan picking up their dim sum, baked goods fresh noodles, vegetables n other frozen groceries there , it's fresh items that are being sold here. As to prices, they no doubt will be higher because it's their fuel and service surcharge. A truck driver goes out daily to make a grocery run so you don't have to drive 4hours round trip and pay $3.50 a gallon for fuel... forget about wear n tear in your car, risk of parking summonses, cost of parking or sitting in traffic while your products are melting... It's a smaller older mom n pop grocery store but beats me having to go all the way into the city to get Asian products. They're the most complete in everything you need for your recipes. Some shoppers are stingy about price being higher... then you do the drive and leave more products for us who appreciate the convenience to purchase. I'm appreciative of the convenience. You sure as well get groceries yourself as their products are labeled from stores in NYC ... but I'm enjoying the extra time saved just buying from them. They're my middleman and if you want their driver to pickup specific items for you ie for a huge party, make an arrangement with the cashiers for special requests and they're happy to oblige. This is the mini Chinatown that residents in the Stony Brook area have come for a long time. *Okay, it's just a store. Prices are very decent(especially compared with the outrageous prices in Waldbaums, etc.) Sure, prices in Chinatown are cheaper - but it's a 1.5-2 hour drive to Chinatown, and a 2.5 hour train ride. Strategically located near Stony Brook University, which has a high Asian population, this little grocery store has all of the authentic goods you could possibly need to stock your kitchen with. The prices are very, very reasonable (as Asian groceries are wont to be), especially compared to other specialty food marts. The products are a TAD pricier than you'd find in Asian city enclaves, but that's to be expected -- after all, Stony Brook is a ways away and they have to make back their delivery fees a penny at a time. That being said, they have all of the fresh noodles and wonton and dumpling wrappers from the Queens factory the big Hong Kong Supermarket in Flushing gets their stuff from, and often have fresh rice noodles for chow fun/pad see ew goodness. Carbs aren't the only thing that get brought in from the city. Here, you'll find dim sum dishes (a little sad after an hourlong trek, but passable as authentic "leftovers" for reheating) as well as baked goods like buns. Add to that fresh vegetables that can be tough to find out in the 'burbs, and you've got yourself a meal. In the frozen section, there are more dumplings than you'll know what to do with. Big selection of mantau baos, as well. All the best and most popular brands of sauces make an appearance, and the selection of high quality rice can be daunting for a newb. Small, but neat and convenient, right on the highway behind Burger King. Definitely the place to go if you're looking for good Asian goods that aren't overpriced. read more

This place prevents me from suffering depression in Stony Brook, and takes me to asian food heaven. It has pretty much all ingredients I need to make authentic Thai food, such as Thai basil, bird's eye chili's, thin soy sauce, dark soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, curry pastes, coconut milk and fresh flat wide ride noodle. The only thing missing is Kaffir lime leaves or Thai holy basil, but coming from LA I can only expect so much. I definitely go here for these select ingredients as no where else nearby provides such ingredients, and this place has reasonable prices. The only downside is this place doesn't really have fresh meat meat other than seafood, but the tofu is pretty typical of what you'd find in an Asian grocery. On saturdays, they have pretty good chinese breakfast / dim sum as I've seen chicken feet, shu mai, har gow, congee and they even have some bomb Phillipino desserts. Honestly, the cantonese style dim sum here on Saturday is better than all of the dim sum (canto style) I've had in flushing so far (even when cold), so I have no idea where they get their dum sum but it's really good, and at a very reasonable ~$2.60 per item. read more

Owners are very nice and they have a good variety of snacks that are hard to find in Long Island. Pricier than markets in New York City but that is expected.
