This is for the cashiers: This is my third visit. If you bring your own bag, they will not bag your groceries for you. You're on your own. Their deli salads are swimming in mayonnaise. They do not know how to prepare any salad. My friend bought a turkey burger this week and it was hard, old and tasted rancid . The quality of their deli department is very good. The service at the deli department is very poor. Their meats and their paltry price well good quality. The cashiers are very attentive and pleasant. One thing to be leery of their pricing on the shelf and on the product is not always what comes up on the register. Always check your receipt because there's a percentage of the time you're overcharged. And one time my son picked up a package of chicken that was marked incorrectly in his favor brought it to the register and wouldn't abide by New York state law on what its priced that's what you pay for. I love my Key! I depend on this store. Everyone who works there, at all levels, is lovely. I often cannot reach the mac and cheese, and there is invariably someone to help me. The prices are not that bad.. Everyone is affected by inflation. I get the impression that the company is trying not to pass costs on to the consumers. This store is terrific! The staff, especially Cello (manager) and Carmen (deli manager) will go the extra mile to accommodate their customers. The butchers are always ready to help with a meat order. The meat is excellent quality. Every staff member is polite and friendly (I always have to ask someone to take down something for me and they drop everything to do it). The store is small but the product variety is really pretty good. Produce always fresh, and again, with helpful staff members. Cashiers are friendly and efficient. Altogether, a nice shopping experience. Very good deli, with delicious hot foods and homemade salads. Overall, the prices are a bit higher, but the convenience and quality are worth it. The "Ass" as some will call it is a higher end, but not so high end grocery store in the East End on LB. It's one of two in the East End and your other choice being Waldbaums, the service here is nothing special by any means and for the most part average at best. As far as selection goes they have a very good deli department that includes Boars Head product, some fresh made selections and some smoked fishes and such. Also they have a sushi area that's made fresh on premises and is actually pretty good for a grocery store. Overall this is usually my back up choice for when I need something in a pinch or am in the need for deli items, the prices are a little on the higher side as compared to a big box store. The only value for me is the deli dpt, and the meats are decent as well. read more

We are fortunate to have a small grocery store in the neighborhood, especially during the global health crisis. Been shopping here since the early Associated days and have a nice rapport with employees who recognize me when I'm shopping. Meat department always holds a small fresh turkey breast for me at Thanksgiving tine. Deli is well stocked and has a great variety of store-made salads, roasted deli meat, entrees, etc. by the pound. A nice selection of ethnic foods, as well. read more

This is the local grocery store on the East End of Long Beach and I must say the customer service at this location is horrible. It is a small store that is a little run down!!!!! I agree with another poster who said since the Change from Associated to key food the quality seems a bit off. The staff is extremely unfriendly will not respond to you asking where an item is located needless to say I will never step foot into this place again. read more

Everytime I buy a piece of meat from this place it's is brown and smells. They must change the label to make sure it still sells even though it's bad. Also when chicken goes bad in the meat department they cook it and sell it in the deli department. read more

So you shop here for a while and you enjoy the quirky products, the lack of a crowd, the location... but then they run out (or don't stock) a major item that you need forcing you to go down the road to the Waldbaums. When you walk in it's like a utopia of products. Huge veggie/fruit aisles. WAY cheaper products. There's no coming back here. Sorry, Key Food. Great selection throughout the store. A little pricey, but I was able to find everything I needed and some things that have been difficult to find elsewhere. The only staff-member I interacted with was the check-out clerk and she could definitely use some basic customer service training. My experience wasn't horrible enough to keep me from coming back, but I'll probably try other grocers before going back. read more

This East End LB female KeyFood deli counter worker is the worst! Not only is she not friendly, she try's to rip you off every time. I mentioned to the Mgr last time that she charged me DOUBLE and he changed the price, but today all 3 cold cuts I ordered were on sale for $5.99 lb but for each one she did it again and tried to charge me $9.99 lb. I think this place is over-priced - BUT they do have a good selection of cheeses, vegetables and other speciality items that (while not impossible to find) can be a little out of the norm if you want to cook up a nice meal to impress someone coming over. I mean, not that I ever do that, but if I wanted to and needed say, various mushrooms and gourmet cheeses to stuff a chicken with and slap together some risotto, I could probably get everything I needed here. Well I finally got it......A STANDING OVATION for my Brisket. I must admit, I usually go to a butcher for my Holiday Brisket (Pot Roast). This year I ran out of time. I decided to try my Key Food in Long Beach. The butcher actually came out and told me "not to worry". Next thing I knew I had a gorgeous 8 lb lean piece of Brisket. This place has most items you need from your grocery list and I would have scored higher except for these two points: 1] they got rid of the frozen Baked Clams which are more expensive at Walbaum's and more importantly, 2] the sale items DO NOT come off or even register upon check out - you have to be CONSTANTLY vigilant that you are being charged correctly. Often the sales items have not been programmed so you are paying the FULL price for sales items. BUYER BEWARE. read more
