Overpriced on everything, difficult to find things, the store was crowded, and I waited over 5 minutes for a change at the checkout counter to buy a bag of items, even after I said a very cordial hello to the checkout girl who didn't bother to look up,or say hello-everyone has bad days but that just summarized the 20 minute experience there. This is a very nice King Kullen. I was in the neighborhood and stopped for a few items, a gift card, and a lotto. I found my Stella Artois in the cans which is more convenient for me, and not that easy to find in my stop n shop. The store is clean and well stocked, everything is convenient and the staff are very helpful, on the floor, they clear the way for you. Best of all the Courtesy Desk is staffed with wonderful, courteous, quick and pleasant personnel. The ladies, especially Veronica R., really show true professionalism and I just wanted to acknowledge. I will will return to this store, if I am ever in Island Park again. read more

I am so scared to give this place the review I want to because... I don't want all the crazies from Waldbaum's on Park to start shopping here. Came to this King Kullen on a Saturday afternoon and lo and behold - it wasn't packed! The amount of customers patroning the store was JUST RIGHT - I bet Goldy Locks shops here... They have a lot of organic produce which is a major plus for me. Excellent organic, free range, natural, vegetarian fed meat selections, too - another plus. This food store is clean and easy to get around - it's laid out wonderfully. I hate having to drive over the bridge if I don't have to, but for this King Kullen, I am very happy to! This supermarket is still new. It's clean employes are still getting to know systems. They are friendly and courteous. They have a well stocked deli and a nice hot grab and go section. This prices are a bit more expensive than the other markets in the area. I used the bottle return section that is segregated from the store. That's good as you do not get that old stale beer soda bottle stench. I prefer this market even though a but more expensive. King Kullen in Island Park was the perfect place to run in and grab a few items, but not do a full shop because their prices are much higher than Stop and Shop. Great thing about this store are the easy parking and the cleanliness. So what changed? It may sound dumb to some, maybe most, but after Covid, they closed the bathrooms to customers. One of my biggest reasons to shop there was because I could access the bathroom without having to go to the back of the store and walk through the dark, dingy, storage area to get to a bathroom, which are always filthy, (Stop and Shops bathrooms). But when you gotta go... so when I went to King Kullen, it was a welcome change and found myself shopping there several times a week. Now that they closed off the convinence of the bathrooms, I am not shopping there at all. Trader Joes, Stop and Shop, Marshalls, and all other stores bathrooms are now opened. It's a clean store. People are nice enough. The prices are a bit higher. The problem is since the New York State laws have banned plastic bags, King Kullen has resorted to paper bags as many other stores have. Unlike their competition however, they have chosen extremely cheap brittle paper bags that tear extremely easily in spite of double bagging attempts by their staff. As a result every time I shop there , most of the bags tear, the products end up on the concrete garage floor. The plastic and glass containers break and create a mess. The eggs shatter. The prices don't matter if a percentage of what I buy has to be thrown away because it's contaminated by the garage concrete floor and has to be replaced. It's just pointless to shop there anymore until this gets resolved. Their competing stores do use a higher grade of paper bags which tear less often and therefore there is less waste. I won't be going there anymore. It's a shame. It is not a problem just of this store in Island Park, rather it is a corporate decision that affects all their stores. read more

Every department is always well stocked and I always find exactly what it is I am looking for. This place is clean and the prices are fair. The produce department is always fresh and when I needed basil the other day, the employee on the floor went to the back to get it for me when he could have easily just said they didn't have and continued working on what he was doing. The produce department itself deserves 5 stars but as a store I give it 4 because the meat department has a lot of meats nearing the expiration date which is not always the most convenient for me. King Kullen Experience Yo! Alot of Jews shop at King Kullen. Its good business. Generally the store is clean, and its got good produce section. The music sucks, and the thankfully the manager is competent. I do not care for the Self CheckOut machine. It obnoxiously announces "Please Remove from Bagging Area!" when there is nothing in the fucking bag area. I want to murder this inanimate computer. I get out of the Store Later because of the King Kullen Self checkout. If I have to come back to hear that contraption blast "Please Remove from bagging area," when there is Nothing in the bagging area!!! im going to probably murder the nearest cashier. If you have a gambling addiction king kullen has three very good locations to waste your money on a contest your never going to win, one lotto machine is by the book keeping lady and the other two by the exit door. Neighborhood and drifting alcoholics will also be pleased to know that King Kullen is always ready to cater to alcoholic needs, with a filled fridge of beer that you can take home, to destroy your family with, and if king kullen should be empty Fret not baby, there's a liquor store right next store to the Kullen, and you can steal shots from the table when the Hot chick manager ain't looking. The King Kullen Bakery is fabulous, and when I get diabetes im definitely blaming you kullen. Until that time comes though, keep baking fabulous shit and ill keep buying it. Oh yes: Alot of Hot Mom's shop here. The women that shop here definitely are competing with each other on some kinda level. They all got the same kinda husbands too, some buffed up guy that still wears sweat pants and a baseball cap Everywhere. All of them sporting some Green tribal bullshit tattoo on their arm or leg, and drive some big SUV. King Kullen also has alot of gym bunnies shop hopping around the aisles, I didn't realize it was necessary to try and look as Cute as possible while shopping for cereal. Its a big shopping tease. The people who shop here are all shallow and have bad personalities and frankly I do not care for it. Its depressing. Worse is when you run into your neighbors while shopping. I never thought I would want to write a review for a grocery store but this King Kullen needs one. Honestly this is not the closes one to me but they are all so pleasant at this store. Literally it's like you have wondered into a different country. All of the employees appear to be happy an are generally helpful. The store isn't as big as a lot of the other King Kullens (which you can notice as soon as you enter the produce section). But who cares, the workers are helpful and this rubs off on the shoppers as well. Everyone is nice. They have special parking for customers with small children and the biggest variety of car carts for kids including a fire truck, police and race car theme. I will continue going back! read more

This is the only supermarket in the little village of Island Park, which is more convenient than having to drive to either oceanside or long beach. I usually shop at night when there are less people in the store and it's just calmer in general. I've tried to shop during normal hours and it's a little busier than at night which is expected. read more

I seem to find myself in many different supermarkets. Guess I shop for food at supermarkets at times, like women go to shoe stores for shoes, lol. It is very clean, very wide, the parking lot and store, seem to have a better comfort factor (not vagrants, or hanger arounds in their lot) It is clean, has a big deli aisle if you eat that stuff. Lots of fruits and veggies. For me , nothing that special, not like a Fairways or Wegmans. It is a big local supermarket for the area, Island park, Long Beach. . Terrible disappointment over a number of visits. Moldy bread on the shelves next to the bakery and complete apathy on the part of the employees in that area. Under-stocked meat section on a Monday morning. Completely out of or not carrying a number of "usual" shopping list items. Employees who are unfamiliar with "other" sections of the store and stating they don't carry an item that the store, indeed, does carry. The girl at the cashier overcharged me for my items ($113.78 when items purchased totaled $84.11 w/tax) and when I asked her for the receipt, she said, "It's in the bag." I get home and search for the receipt. NO RECEIPT! Not in the bags and not in the car! THIEVES!!! My daughter went to pick up her paycheck, being she worked on Sunday, 8/16, 10:00AM-4:00PM; Monday, 8/17, 12:00PM-5:30PM and Friday (her last day before college), 8/21, 8:30AM-5:30PM and was told there wasn't a paycheck for her and handed her slips stating she worked until 8/15. Coming back from a movie in Long Beach, we decided to do a quick grocery shopping on our way home instead of going to our usual supermarket. On the plus side, KK stocks many items and brands not available elsewhere; the aisles are wide and well lit. The turnoffs include fresh produce leaves a lot to be desired. If I had reviewed this King Kullen a year ago, I'd have given it 4 stars because it was great in every way except the prices, which are higher than most of the other supermarkets in the area. Unfortunately however, since Waldbaums in Oceanside closed, and Waldbaums in Long Beach turned into yet another Stop and Shop, this King Kullen market has declined. It's much more busy than it used to be which would be fine, if they had increased the staffing to go along with the increased number of customers they now have but I don't see that has having happened. Instead, this once well stocked and well staffed market is now under stocked and under staffed. It has become impossible, at least for me to walk into this King Kullen and walk out with nearly everything I need. Popular produce items such as bananas, apples etc are now in short supply unless you get there on delivery day. The same goes for frozen vegetables and yogurt and to a lesser extent meat and poultry and breads. The line at the deli counter is now much longer as are the checkout lines and I see no increase in cashiers whatsoever. Self checkout lines are also longer and at a busy time of day, the one person they have tending to problems people have doing self checkout is not enough. I hope this is just growing pains, but it has been a while now since Waldbaums went out of business, and this King Kullen really needs to up it's game in staffing and stocking of products. read more
