My expectations were low and yet I was disappointed. Disgusting service. Paid $9 for bread. The older Asian man was rude and beyond stingy. When you pay $9 you expect some sort of chicken. I love Fruit Bowl and shop there every week. The store specializes in fresh fruit and produce and has exceptional, unusual finds such as fresh figs, great bok choy, amazing wild arugula, huge bunches of fresh mint, turmeric root, great lettuce, etc. Nuts and dried fruit are excellent. Yes, it's more expensive for these things that you can't ordinarily find at King Kullen or other regular grocery stores. Never shopping here again I was more than willing to Pay steep price is to shop local and get quality fruit. I spent an in ordinate amount of money on cut up watermelon which is about five dollars per pound and I by about $25 worth at a time! It's kind of a scene but it's all cut up already and easy. The curbside has been good and the man who delivers to my car is lovely. Recently I bought a bunch of nectarines which were picked out by their staff and delivered curbside. They were hard as a rock and the next day I noticed that two of them were already moldy even though they were still hard and not ripe. Mind you these nectarines were two dollars per piece! (And this was the second time that this had happened. Previously I had thrown away five or six of them that had gone bad without ever ripening.) I called and Angelica who I thought was the owner said of course come back and I will give you two new ones. She knew that I had just bought them. I told her I couldn't come back until the next day and she said no problem. When I returned The next day she was not there so I told the lovely cashier what happened and he said he had to ask the owner. This man who was standing nearby literally started yelling at me that those were not his nectarines and that all of his nectarines are perfect and some other gobbledygook that I could not understand under his mask and his yelling. I told him the above story and that I spend quite a bit of money every single week and washe wikljng to lose a good customer ?He was so rude and eventually yelling in front of several other customers. I just turned around and paid for my watermelon and said that's fine I'll never shop here again. The cashier was so lovely he said "I'm so sorry I Would totally have refunded you your money if it were up to me." I have read so many reviews in other places about how rude the service is at this food store and usually I do not have an issue even if they were a little abrupt. But this man being the owner and having that attitude I just will not spend my money here again. read more

I am a Long Beach resident and have been patronizing the Fruit Bowl for many years. I have bought plants and flowers there in the past and have never experienced a problem. Around a week or so ago, I purchased a flowering plant. When I looked at it the next morning, I noticed what looked like little fruit flies buzzing around, so I put one of those sticky traps in the plant hoping that would take care of the problem and I could keep the plant. Lo and behold, every day that I checked the plant there were more and more of them stuck to the trap. I finally gave up and brought it back today. When I opened up the bag to show the woman the problem, more of the little flies flew out. She asked me when I purchased the plant and I told her around a week to 10 days before. I explained that I had kept the plant that long hoping the bugs would stop. She refused to give me a refund, stating "we would never sell something like that!", and, unbelievably, "maybe the bugs came from your house!" I should note that I work locally and am in there pretty much every day to grab a bite, so this woman knows me. I asked her if she was willing to lose a long time over $10 and her answer was "ok, bye!" I informed her that I would never shop there again, and that I was going to post about the experience on as many site as I could find. I love their fruit and variety of products that you can buy from them. There are asian snacks and kimchi! They sell coffee. Okay, the thing is... I recently bought a Naked smoothie drink from them and it was expired for 4 days already. If you see the fruit selection, some of the fruit are starting to rot and change color. New to Long Beach, I am a transplant from Washington Heights, where I was able to get fresh produce from corner bodegas. I realized I had forgotten cilantro for the sofrito I was making on Christmas Eve and Stop n Shop closed early. Fresh Fruit Bowl was a lifesaver! Even picked up some yuca while there! Hooray! The cashier was pleasant, all the produce was fresh and they had a good selection of various ethnic foods. I will be purchasing from them much more often. Thank you for saving our Navidad! read more

I'm on a juicing kick. I need fresh veggies and fruit this place actually has some of the veggies I can't find at waldbaums...because their produce selection blows...as well as a lot of fresh herbs, and a great assortment of fruits. I dont think they're terribly overpriced - I paid about 50 beans for a pretty varied assortment of fruits and veggies, enough to make 3 juices a day for 5 days and I didn't run out, so thats not bad. read more

I love Fresh Fruit Bowl for many reasons: 1) they always have fresh produce 2) they always have hard to find items (tomatillo's all year round)!! 3) always have hard to find asian ingredients (this place will make you a sushi chef...very authentic selection) 4) it's 2 blocks away from where I live and has long hours 5) All herbs like thyme, oregano, chives, etc are $1/pack So why four stars? It's super pricey. Sometimes their prices are as much as double or triple the prices at the waldbaums which is 2 blocks down and across the street. However their product does last longer in the fridge. Definitely the spot for someone that finds odd ethnic recipes on the web and needs very specific ingredients. Staff is also very nice. read more

Lived in Long Beach for ten years and frequented Fruit Bowl for fruit, vegetables, dairy items and their beautiful flower selection. We have since moved about 20 minutes away and, during the pandemic, have returned to shopping at Fruit Bowl because of their consistently fresh selection and amazing customer service. Wish we still lived closer but definitely worth the trip! read more

2/24/2014 It was DELICIOUS! The watermelon, pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries all ripe and sweet as sugar. I Asked to add mangoes, kiwi, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries. All the fruit was premium quality, delicious and sliced to perfection. Presentation of a large platter was picture perfect. It was everything I asked for and SWEET TOO!
