I don't usually take time to do a review like this because it's situational and isolated, but when my 76 year old, widowed mom calls me crying because she's so upset and angry I can't be objective. My family has lived in Hicksville for over 40 years and we have been frequenting that shopping center for that long. We used to shop that supermarket when it was Trunz. That being said my mom went in there last week on either Thursday or Friday with my niece and nephew to get them some snacks and herself dinner for the evening. She went to the deli counter and a young man rang a bell to get the attention of the deli clerk that they had a customer. Out walked a young Hispanic male with dark curly hair and he said, "Can I help you sir?" He was polite at least and my mom got hurt, but she was just gonna move on l. Yes she has short hair, but she was dressed as a typical senior citizen female. She replied with a curt, "I am a woman." To which the young man proceeds to laugh in her face and kept laughing. She was devastated. She walked away, purchased some milk, left the store with my niece and nephew and proceeded to cry in her car. She calmed down, collected herself, and went home. She told my sisters and one of them called and complained to the manager on duty. He was all apologies and said he would look into it. Whether he does or not, I really don't care because my family is no longer going to be going to Key Food again. Maybe that's harsh or an overreaction, but all we can do is withhold our business and hope that they are more aware of the caliber of people they hire in the future. read more

I really only come to Key Food for their chicken, beef, turkey, etc. They tend to have a larger variety than Stop & Shop and other nearby supermarkets. This store is definitely smaller than its competitors but if you're only coming here for a couple of items, it'll do its job. The aisles are narrow but the store is never that crowded. The worst part is the parking lot. It takes longer to find a spot than to shop more often than not. The staff is friendly. Sale items tend to be pushed towards the front or on end caps. Prices for certain items (Entenmann's, Stella Doro, meat, cereal) are lower than other stores in the area. Meanwhile other everyday items are more expensive here than elsewhere. Store is clean. It has a little of everything (including a paleo/gluten-free section in the baking aisle). Not a bad place to go if you need something quick. read more

We happened upon this on our way back from a grocery store that was making customers wait an hour to get in the door. We had a modest list of staples, and their fruit and vegetable sections were quite well stocked. A full selection of chicken and beef. Only problem I had was finding sausage (didn't want the hot kind). Their paper goods section had both toilet paper and paper towels, with moderate limits. The checkout was fast and pleasant. The perfect stop for these troubled times. Only negative is that the store is so loaded that I felt a bit claustrophobic. read more

I purchased an item yesterday that displayed it as on sale. Normally it's 4.59 but the sign said 1.99. Since it was such a good buy, I bought it even though I really didn't need it. After reviewing my receipt later, I saw that I was charged the regular price in error. I went back today hoping to get a credit since I shop there so often but the woman I spoke to said that sale ended on Friday. I said but the sign was still up... actually 3 days after and she just dismissed me and walked away. End of story. Hmmmmm... and that was customer service? Ouch. read more

I have been shopping here since it was Bravo, Trunz, keyfood etc... 40 years. Yesterday accidentally purchased shaved Parmesan cheese that was a month expired (the label looked like 5/22 but it was "April" 5 22). They refused to refund without receipt. It's $5 not a big deal but I'm in there regularly and there's no customer service- Least they could've done was given me a new one. Very disappointed. read more

I am appalled quite frankly by the way that the cashiers behave & even more surprised that the managers/owners allow this type of behavior. Granted, I know that it's a mom & pop type grocery store (at least it used to be) but service is king & without it, you're nothing. The only reason why I am now giving this grocery store 3 stars instead of 2 is because a man behind the deli counter saw me struggling to reach the romaine lettuce & came over & got it for me. Also, the produce truly is good quality & good prices. However, the real problem lies when I got the cash register to check out & the young girl I went to was literally eating kettle corn popcorn chips chomping away & talking over my head to the cashier behind me...when all of a sudden, a girl she knew came in & while she was holding my money started a conversation with the girl about what grade she's in & what's she's up to. I cleared my throat & then coughed & my cashier snapped back to attention to make my change. As she was handing me my change, she yells to the cashier behind me, "OMG! You were videotaping that! I'm like seriously going to kill you!! Before the end of my shift, I'm like totally going to throw your phone away! Customers don't want to be videotaped!" Um...yeah. You're darn right little girl! People don't want to be videotaped. I was so annoyed. I understand that the mangers/owners want to save money & pay a minimum wage to their help, hence the teenaged cashiers; however, if that's the case then in the very least there should be some rules & regulations! I'm offended & will only be coming here when it's necessary due to convenience & will maintain my major shopping to the larger stores where policy & procedure exists & cashiers can't be eating & texting, talking, or taking videos on their phones. When it was Newbridge Farms it was a great place to shop at. Since Key Food took over, it's a disgusting disaster! They selling old rotting meat, expire items, etc. I would advise anyone NOT TO SHOP HERE. read more

Every single time I go to this grocery store the people at the service deli acknowledge me and help me immediately. I am always in and out very quickly because they work efficiently. You can watch them cut the meats and cheeses. You can see them change their gloves to make sure they are clean before helping you. There is always a manager to help. This is definitely a great grocery store!!! read more

First of all there's always this stench when you walk in. Second, since the new owners took over last few times meat and deli meat smelled rotted And croissants had mold. Giving it 2 stars for convenience for manufacturing canned and boxed goods, beer, juice etc. So disappointed since its so convenient. read more

This store serves its purpose for me. It's a local small supermarket. If you need to quick pick up a few items this is your place. I don't necessarily think I would do a big food shop here but that's just me. The meat is very reasonably priced. The veggies however are never really on sale. The deli is reasonable. I don't find their prepared salads to be that great however. When you walk in the back by the egg section however it always stinks. Not sure why but they need to fix that. It's disgusting. People are reporting negative interactions with the cashiers which I've never seen or experienced. The cashiers for the most part are kids so if you have a problem with them I imagine speaking up to them personally and not on a Yelp platform might be a little more effective. All in all this place gets the job done. read more

Just bought a pair of Salmon Steak, the expiration date is 12/29 however both steaks wreaked and are clearly bad. Will not be returning!

Just going by the 2 reviews I have read I won't be going to this store. I've never been there but good christ you can't treat you customers like that. If employees would act professional the store would get great reviews and with that they would get more customers for them which means more money for them. This review should have been written over a year ago when the store reopened as Key Food. At that time I had a problem with my grocery bag that I for got. When I returned it was gone . The young cashier was not aware that when she asked another customer if it was hers it really was mine. The manager was rude and wanted to do nothing. In fact, it was the owner of the store. I followed him to the back of the store and he disappeared. After. 15 minutes of complaining I finally got new groceries. It was a small amout of money but I had to fight to get reimbursed. I did promise myself I wouldn't return but then after a few months I did return. Today once again I found management doesn't try to help the customers and my cashier was in another world. Very unprofessional managers and a few cashiers are rude. Now I won't say that all cashiers are rude but a few of them just don't want to be there. One star goes to the deli dept. they are all very nice and do a great job cutting your cold cuts. I will miss going to the deli dept. but I will not return to this Key Food. read more

Okay this store is great. The products and prices are well. I don't live close so I rarely go shopping here but I was just in the store a few weeks ago. This incident however happened about a month ago. I had asked the cashier for help because she was the only cashier open and she gave me a huge attitude..did not even know what I was asking her about, she kept asking what are you saying? I had never seen this cashier before that day even though I am often in the store. I think she was blondish. She was very, very rude. Then a line began to form and she began to get nasty and frantic with everyone she was helping, had no idea what she was doing at all!! Finally one of the other girls who I'm familiar with actually ran over from some other part of the store and helped me find what I was looking for and even walked with me to get it. Then she helped out her fellow cashier by teaching her how to do a certain thing at her register. Then she started taking care of, ringing everyone up quickly and even apologizing for not being at her line. This girl was is sweet and conversed with everyone she checked out, saying have a great night to everyone, not once showing if she was overwhelmed which anyone in her position would be. She did a great job taking control of this situation. I think her name was Brittany? Something like that. Another time this girl was working she complimented my watch. Most of the cashiers however are very sweet as well, especially the women in the morning, they always are in a good mood and helpful. So are the managers. The store is very clean and I recommend going just that one nasty cashier is problematic. read more
