So we had our first stone crab claws in November during our honeymoon and we've been wanting some more ever since. I looked around online for awhile hoping to find a place in Key West to ship them to Philly as an Xmas surprise. Lo and behold, I found Key West Shellfish Co. I read the glowing review on here and checked out the website. The prices seemed reasonable compared to other sites, and when I emailed them with some questions, they responded right away and were extremely friendly and helpful. So I placed an order to be shipped Wed, 12/30, thinking I'd surprise the old man on New Years's. Markham McGill was kind enough to not only email me when they went out, but advised me they'd arrive 12/31, so they'd be at their freshest. Oh, they were fresh alright. And damn tasty. Got the Key West Pinks too - very tasty as well. We had all the proper condiments, key lime mustard, butter, spicy cocktail sauce - barely used them. These were best nekkid... We sat in the floor with a box of wine and some mallets, and went to town. Good stuff - we will be ordering again! read more

Key west shellfish CO, is a fantastic set-up, they send you shellfish and fish all the way to California where I live and everything is just as pristine as you get it out of the water! The price is right and Markham McGill, can even help you out with recipes. My husband Sam,and I bought 5 Lbs.of large Stone Crab and 3 lbs. of jumbo shrimp. We enjoyed a shrimp cocktail and cracked crab with our favorite sauce and were able to eat enough to finally satisfy us for 2 weeks. Ha! Ha! Not like "Joe's Stone Crab" were you are teased with a small amount. here the centerpiece is the crab, not the sides! read more

For weeks I have been trying to place an order. I have emailed and left phone messages to find out when they might have stone crab or fish available. I still have not received a response and my gift cert. will soon expire. Today the web sight is down and the market closed. read more

Established in 2002.

Longtime Key Westers Markham McGill and Eric Dickstein formed Key West Shellfish after many years in the local seafood business working directly with local fishermen and their families. Starting a direct-ship seafood business was a natural extension of their other business interest. Both are deeply involved in the Key West community and avid spearfishermen, sailors and, in Markham's case, licensed boat captain.

Father of two native Key West "Conchs" and a 5th-generation Florida native, Markham is and an avid diver, spearfisherman, boat captain, sailor and overall ocean "Waterman", Markham is the voice on the other end of the line when you order up local seafood. Have crew members standing by for boats pulling in to eat their catch & ensure no one is feeding the bird/fish. Would stop again and try something different but I'm sure there's other places to go for fish.

The waitress who finally took our order was taciturn at best, barely speaking to us. I asked for cheese on my bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato breakfast sandwich. She suggested cheddar which I eagerly agreed to. I also asked to have cheddar cheese on my grits. My partner asked for a poached egg and corned beef hash. She asked that the whites were not runny at all and the waitress seemed to scoff at her. When the food finally arrived everything looked great, but my sandwich had Swiss cheese on it and the grits had American. Though it was very tasty. My partners food came out perfectly. The short of it is the food was amazing. The service lacked hospitality.

The cake was moist, not overly sweet, and paired perfectly with either iced or hot coffee. The only downside was the service toward the end of our visit. Since they were preparing to close, the staff had already started putting things away and cleaning while customers were still seated and eating or drinking. Personally, I think cleaning should begin after closing time rather than while guests are still trying to enjoy their experience. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the honey cake and would love to try their cold brew next time.
