Wow! We ordered subs here for the first time and we are so happy! I ordered a chicken Caesar wrap and it was stuffed full! LOTS of chicken, plenty of croutons for crunch! I made 2 meals out of it! My husband had the chicken BLT 12". Again, stuffed full! He just added a little more mayo when he got home - but that's his preference. Will ask for more mayo when we order again. I stopped by Key West Sub Shop while in town and WOW -- I'm so glad I did! The sandwiches were unbelievably fresh, and I got mine pressed, which took it to the next level. The bread was perfect, the ingredients tasted super high quality, and the flavors were on point. The ladies working there were so sweet and welcoming -- you can just tell they care about their food and their customers. They mentioned they've been open for 18 years, and honestly, it shows. That kind of consistency doesn't happen by accident! I seriously wish they were closer to Tampa because I'd be there every week. If you're anywhere near this place, GO. For the branch birthday celebration, we chose sandwiches from Key West after hearing all the rave reviews. Three Cuban Pressed sandwiches and one Reuben, the order was hot and ready the moment I walked through the door. The employees were friendly and greeted me immediately! This sub shop is awesome. The food is well worth the price, it comes out pretty fast and they even come by and make sure you like everything. I had 1/2 of the Hemingway pressed sub and 1/2 of the pressed Rueben and they were both so good I couldn't tell you which one I like best. FYI I did split with my brother to get to have some of both. After missing an opportunity to grab a Cuban sandwich in Ybor City, I couldn't fight the urge any longer and decided to order one at any local shop that offered them. Luckily these sandwiches are wildly popular not just in the major Cuban hubs of Florida (aka Tampa & Miami), but in the smaller, more remote regions as well. Key West Sub Shop seems to specialize in pressed sandwiches, so ordering a Cuban here was a no-brainer. For good measure, I also ordered one of my all-time favorites - a classic Italian. Let's start with the good - the Cuban was exactly what I was looking for. It was the textbook recipe - ham, lean pork, Swiss, pickle, and a generous slathering of mustard. I was a little surprised by the absence of salami, which is pretty much a staple in the Tampa region (Englewood being about an hour and a half south of Tampa), but there's nothing wrong with the "classic" version. The Italian was a different story. You know how you sometimes complain that there's too much lettuce on subs? I think Subway gets this a lot - not enough meat and too many veggies. Well, it's possible to have too little lettuce as well. And that was the case here. I actually enjoy a good portion of lettuce, tomato, and onion on my Italians (while keeping a good meat ratio). The cool, crisp lettuce and juicy tomatoes are a perfect contrast to the spicy, tender meats. Without that balance, the overall quality of the sandwich degrades rapidly. Stick with the pressed sandwiches here and you can't go wrong. I just wouldn't be too eager to venture into many of the other offerings. read more

Being from South Jersey originally I have yet to find a good "HOAGIE" in Florida. If you're from that area you know what I mean. We tried Key West Sub Shop on our way to the beach and these there good "SUBS". The shop was busy when we stopped in but our order was taken quickly and friendly. We watched as the two the ladies made everyone's subs. It's was nice to see the efficiency each order received. The subs traveled well in cooler on the way to the beach where we enjoyed them. Lunch was good I found the Key West Sub Shop in the Tiffany Square Plaza and sat in my car while checking out their menu online. Once I was ready, I headed in. I didn't notice a menu inside but no doubt there is one easily viewed. I already knew what I wanted, their pressed sandwich called Hemingway. It is a roast beef with cheddar, with a special sauce of BBQ sauce, mayo, and light horseradish. The person at the counter was on the phone taking an order. Once done I was asked what I wanted but at the same time they turned to give the other order to someone else. Not a good start, a little pet peeve of mine, give me your attention when you ask me a question. Got past that slight and we were off and running. I ordered the Pressed Hemingway. There are few seats inside, all occupied, so I headed outside to sit at one of their sidewalk tables. It was a very nice day to sit outside. In well under 10 minutes, my sandwich was delivered to me, and it looked great. I understand Hemingway's favorite sandwich was peanut butter and onion, but he also loved game meats, so this was in line with Papa and also much more edible than PB & O. While I thought the sandwich was a bit too mild, it was a good size and a good sandwich. The roast beef was sliced thin and very tender. This was not that brown sliced little moisture stuff, this looked very good, very appetizing. I saw a sign that would indicate their meats were Dietz & Watson. Good choice. My once order taker even checked with me while I was sitting outside eating to be sure I was doing ok, so back in my good graces. It was a good lunch. read more

I feel bad doing this because I don't leave 1* reviews often. A few weeks ago my husband suggested I get him a ham & cheese hoagie. Our neighbors go here. How bad could it be, I thought. So I went & ordered a ham & cheese sub and a salad with ham & cheese. Maybe it was supposed to be a Cobb salad. I got home & opened the bag & it was a big box of ... sub lettuce. That's it. My husband was disappointed in his sandwich. He's warned others away from this place - he said they just threw the meat and cheese on in lumps. It was ok quality - at least cold - but this place isn't inexpensive. I can best describe the small shop as "dismal." You can do better at Publix or Wawa. Same food types, better quality, not scary dirty. I'm only putting this because there are 5* reviews - all are older so maybe once upon a time it didn't cost twice as much as it should for a box of iceberg lettuce & a hunk of boiled ham, American cheese, and a sub-Subway roll. read more

Not bad if your looking for a sub to eat but nothing that was mind blowing or put them above other places. I would try again just because of the customer service! Had spent the morning on the beach on a hot, humid Florida day, so we looked like heck and were covered in sand. We wanted something good for lunch but wanted it to go so we could go home and de-sand before we ate. This looked like a great stop and it was! The sandwiches were excellent - my Reuben was hot and delicious, and had been cooked in a panini maker which I liked because it held together much better than most Reubens do. All the sandwiches we got were excellent, and you could get chips and pop too to go with your meal. Would love to go here again sometime! read more
