One of my favorite Japanese food vendors to eat at. We always get the Yakitori Chicken. Friendly service and fast because we usually call our order in (recommended). Their plates come with salad, pickled cabbage, and this delicious seaweed. The chicken is juicy and savory. Just be careful when you go, they are parked on the side of the road on a busy street. Hands down my new go to spot for awesome Japanese food. The Wagyu curry katsu is so Ono! Black pork katsu also best pork katsu on Maui imo. It's CLASSIC Japanese food, somewhat reminiscent of the old Archie's favorites, and is sooo good!! There aren't alot of places, that I know of, that makes a good, down home, donburri - Keyakiya will not disappoint in this regard. The food is flavorful, made fresh when it's ordered, is satisfyingly delicious, and although the portions aren't bust-your-buttons-open size, it's just enough to fill you up without suffering from a post-meal kanak attack. On our recent stop, we (of course) called it in because there's almost always a wait, especially when Chef is cooking it all fresh but because there wasn't much traffic on Beach Road we arrived way early - no big deal, paid, waited, and were rewarded!! Best authentic Japanese food on Maui! Everything I've had here has been spectacular, my favorite being the Tempura. The shrimp they use are huge, fresh & so flavorful...unlike most mediocre shrimp you tend to get elsewhere. High quality veggies like eggplant, asparagus, pumpkin, sweet potatoes & zucchini are used for their tempura which I appreciate! Their udon broth has delicious depth of flavor, chicken katsu is perfection, etc. Even the thought & detail that goes into their side of pickled veggies on each entree plate is awesome. I HIGHLY recommend this place! The taste is a truly authentic Japanese flavor. Their curry is my weak spot, I always have to order something with the curry. Curry Rice, Chicken Katsu Curry Donburi... so good! The tempura I've had is delicious but I recommend eating it right away while it's hot and crispy. If covered for a time, the steam can make it a little soggy. It's as good as any tempura I've had in Japan. The quality of their ingredients is just astounding. Kurobuta, or Black Pork is not an easy item to get! The Black Pork Katsu bento is so juicy. They also use Wagyu beef for many of their dishes. Who does that??? This place is truly a gem! Delicious! It's hard to find good Japanese food on Maui. I tried their Donburi the first time and I was hooked. I love the way they make their egg and there is a perfect amount of rice and meat. Always drive by but never stopping by... until yesterday! I'm glad I did since my meal was awesome. Ordered the black pork katsu bento, why the black pork and not the regular? Well it's a superior piece of meat that's more tender and juicy in my opinion and worth the extra few dollars. It was made to order and came in a nice container with a fresh green salad, homemade wafu (Japanese style) dressing, pickles, rice and a little bit of hijiki (seaweed salad) and konbu (stewed shoyu kelp.) Taste? So good, and on par with a bento you would get in Japan (I should know, I lived there for 10+ years!) I moved from Oahu and have been struggling to find a decent Japanese joint to frequent, not an easy task on Maui. All I can say is I'm glad there is Keyakiya and I'm kicking myself for not stopping sooner... I've been missing out big time. I will DEFINITELY be back. Can I say ono. The food was so good. I drive by almost everyday and tell myself I should stop by and get something. Well today I finally stopped and ordered something my dad got chicken Katsu and I got the Keyakiya chicken. My chicken has super crispy skin and cooked perfectly. I was surprised to find that the quality of items such as their tempura and Tonkatsu were fried in a matter that left the food delightfully crispy with no over usage of oil. This is the best Japanese food on Maui. Their shrimp tempura is leagues above most other places on Maui. I think they use Kauai prawns as the shrimp are large and super flavorful. The included assorted vegetable tempura is fantastic. I have also tried their chicken Katsu and their wagyu curry. Some of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend this place. You never know what you'll find with a food truck, but I love finding the hidden gems. This wasn't one of those. Don't get me wrong, it didn't suck, but wasn't even close to expectations. I heard many good things about this place so I decided to try for the first time! I had the Karaage plate lunch. As a Japanese national, their bento really made me feel at home! Karaage was so tender and can taste the ginger and garlic in their marinade! I appreciate the little side of okazu like hijiki and shibazuke/tsukemono. By far- hands down- the best Japanese spot on Maui. Everything is made fresh, and the family that runs it is so sweet. I've never had chicken katsu that made my heart skip a beat, but I will gladly go on a second, third, whatever date with this place. I love how authentic it is, and it isn't just covered in unagi sauce, or spicy mayo like EVERYWHEReEEeEeeEEee else on Maui. It is simply prepared, and let's the food speak for itself. This is a jewel by the sea! Very good japanese comfort food. The food is like I am back in Japan. So tasty and balanced. Have had the Tonkatsu Don, Oyakodon and Chicken Katsu. Also the Furikake Fries. Only difference between Japan and here is the rice. Understandable, if they were to use higher end komi, would not be affordable. Fries were amazing, aioli is on the side, so nice and crisp. Chicken Katsu was actually crispy on outside juicy inside. This is a legit truck! Oh yeah, nasu koko was ridiculous too!
