We decided to hit the road and find it. Lucky we did! It was open, there was no line. It had a great assortment of rolls and a good number of options for nigiri. We got 4-5 rolls and some nigiri and a poke bowl. It was all freshly made, perfectly rolled and came out at the time told to us, about 15 minutes. We ate it in the car- we didn't notice the ants in the table until after we sat down to wait for about 10 minutes. I followed them on instagram and they posted our order. So cool! At least two of our uber drivers mentioned this place as a top sushi place on Maui, and I'm glad they recommended it! Smash Maui is an absolute vibe. We stopped by on a Monday night around 7:30 pm after doing the road to Hana. They had some Whitney Houston and Shakira bumpin, some cute garden lights, and three outdoor picnic tables for diners. We ordered and had to fill up on gas, so we picked up some drinks from the nearby gas station and got back to wait for the food. The server said it would take about 15 minutes, and I think that was pretty accurate. We ended up ordering the following: Salmon Nigiri - 3/5 this was a little bit more salty than I normally expect of my nigiri. Spicy California Roll - 5/5 tasted like a fresh California roll with some spicy mayo on it. It wasn't very spicy though? Mild enough for the non-spice lovers. Tempura Roll - 5/5 this was probably my favorite roll. It was simple yet delicious. You can't ever go wrong with unagi sauce. Smash Roll - 4/5 the smash roll was really good. Smash Maui is a sushi food truck, and the first I've visited. The truck is in a gravel parking lot not far from downtown Lahaina. The sushi tolls were very good. There are a few picnic tables under awnings if you'd like to eat there. The only real thing I wish would change is the very limited drink options. You can pick from bottles of water or regular cans of Pepsi. That's it. Service was reasonable. It took about 15 minutes for the food to be ready. Fantastic local's roach coach park in Lahaina with very competitive pricing compared to the one opposite Times which is getting as pricey as restaurants! Free parking too, and a good selection of ethnic foods, all tasty (yes we have eaten at them all multiple times...lol). Smash makes the BEST sushi, mouthwateringly good, fresh and accompanied by their Smash Sauce...YUM! We also had some of their katsu and it was the bomb. Staff were friendly, there are tables for you to sit and enjoy your meal, usually someone playing music on a boom box, and they have decorated the area with flowers in pots. Smanchy for a truck lot. Smash is a standout in Maui's food truck scene. Located a couple of block off front street in a food truck lot you will find Smash along with other typical food trucks. Smash features fresh fish served in inventive and rich "American" style maki rolls. They are plump and delicious too. If you want to take some sushi to the beach, stop here first. Food truck sushi is always available even when you can't get a reservation at a sit down sushi bar. If you want to sit down at smash, they have picnic tables and there is free parking. Very disappointed! Called a little after 12p on 8/24 to order take-out for lunch got a message regarding location information. We summed they didn't take orders over the phone. We (Maui resident) and another couple (tourist) were at the food truck location up Emerlad Plaza at about 1:15p we found the truck closed without any explanation. We found this place and could not be happier! It's located a few blocks from front street but has its own parking area for the food trucks. The quality of the fish is amazing, which makes the poke bowls delicious. I had the ahi bowl and my wife had the salmon bowl. I recommend asking for the spicy smash sauce on the side so you can taste the fish with and without the sauce. I prefer to enjoy the fresh ahi without the sauce, but the sauce is excellent! Great lunch plate option! We like to do casual plate lunch style lunches after the beach and this place did not disappoint. The spicy garlic chicken was flavorful and portion was really generous.
