For being as busy as this place is , you would think the food would be much better. I get that a lot of people like it, but it just wasn't for us. Our hats off to the establishment for doing such a brisk business. However I don't think we will be back. It just wasn't anything special enough to make an effort to return. Lastly , on the menu, each item has two prices, one for cash one for card.. I am good with this, however when I received my bill it said the final price, but when I got the notice from my bank their was a card transaction fee attached that they don't tell you about. I would be ok with this too, but maybe let the customers know they will be charged this as well. read more

What can one say about Keyes? It truly is a go to spot for breakfast across the Twin Cities. I love the downtown St. Paul wine, because it is super close to the Capitol making it easy if you work in the area. Even though it has the feel of an old school diner, one of the things i really appreciated is that they have plenty of options even for vegans. For example, a vegan breakfast hash, which I've had multiple times. You can buy vegan sausage on the side. And there's other options as well. I was trying to eat healthy my last visit so I had oatmeal and blueberries. Also, very good. You really can't go wrong if you need a good hearty breakfast at Key's. read more

Solid spot for breakfast in the area. Outside of the food, this is a large spot that was quite busy during my visit, but has lots of parking and a lot of space to accommodate the crowds. The large Peanuts figures outside make this worth a visit to take some fun pictures at least once and the decorations are great. The menu is quite expansive with everything you can think of for breakfast, at a little higher but not unreasonable prices. The bakery is also quite stocked with lots of different items though I didn't have a chance to try it on this visit. For the items I did try, I thought they were good -- though nothing exceptional as the menu descriptions imply. The coffee was fairly smooth, not super strong -- but good enough for a morning jolt of caffienne. The chocolate chip belgian waffles were fairly standard with a good firmness and a fairly tasty batter. The apple cinnamon french toast had a pretty generous amount of apples on it that weren't too soft, with french toast that was decently eggy. Both solid preparations, but not super different from what you'll find elsewhere. Overall, nice breakfast spot to visit for lots of choice and for the great decorations, though the food is nothing special. read more

I mistakenly went to this cafe thinking it was the one that had the Snoopy statues. It is not. The food was not very good. It was very bland, and everything was missing and needed salt and seasonings. It was very disappointing. The only thing that was good was the sourdough toast . The French toast was overcooked and dry. The Mickey Mouse pancakes come with m&ms in them which is not listed as an ingredient on the menu. I ordered a chai latte, it was bland, definitely needed more chai. Ordered a chocolate malt which was also disappointing, it tasted like more milk than chocolate or malt powder. Their pastries looked good but after having the food I decided to pass on trying one. The service was okay. There's tables and booths and overall a large seating area. Great for large groups. Cute little spot for breakfast! I came here for breakfast with my daughter and son-in-law and two grandkids, and we had such a nice time. It was decorated so pretty for the holidays, and the food was great, so was the service. They got my over medium eggs absolutely perfect, the bacon was crispy and the pancakes were delicious. Worked our way around the terrible construction downtown St Paul -right in front of Keys-and stopped by for breakfast. Apologies for no pics! We were waited on immediately and the coffee kept coming! I had the Bobbi Jo's Veggie Hash and my gf had the eggs Benedict. I asked for no peppers or onions and eggs over easy. One great thing that came out of my stay at a local hotel, was I was told to check out Keys Café and Bakery for breakfast. I went to Keyes Café on a Sunday and luckily the time that I went, there was no wait. I was immediately seated even though the lady at the register thought I was DoorDash and not an actual customer (lol) however, I was not immediately greeted by my waitress. I noticed that there was another table that came in after me that was able to order their food prior to me if being able to get a menu. I then proceeded to get up to advise of this mishap, and I was told that my waitress would be on the way. After she finally came to my table, I ended up ordering apple juice and my food. She did apologize and stated that the apple juice would be on the house. I ended up ordering French toast, bacon, and eggs, which you never can go wrong with this dish. The food was great. It was served hot, fresh and cooked to order. The only thing that I did not like about my visit was the service. I even remember the waitress telling me that it was a slow day, which was very unusual for her. So I'm not sure if that negatively impacted her from servicing me, but I had to get up twice to get her attention. Needless to say, I would definitely come back just for the food. read more

Keys was close to our hotel, and we were starving, so it was the obvious choice. It was busy so service was a bit slow, but nothing unexpected for being busy, and we still have food within 15 minutes. The food was great, and that's what really matters. Keys is always one of my favorites for breakfast.... Classic spot! Especially the Robert Street location. Stopped in last night for two slices of cake-- German chocolate and HoHo for my friend and I. The German chocolate cake was the better of the two. Not a ton of coconut flavor but the chocolate cake was great. The hoho cake left me disappointed- did not receive that "wow" from it. Unfortunately, just kinda blah. In the past, I've had the house cake and it's my favorite and would definitely recommend that one. Service I received when I stopped in was great. We had started out trying to get into the Downtown Minneapolis location, prior to choosing this one instead. Minneapolis was packed, and it was nearly an hour's wait for a table...even for two. We canceled our hold and left. The only thing that was off about this visit to the Robert Street location was the service. We were seated quickly and our waitress asked us about beverages. We both requested decaf coffee. She eventually returned with coffee for me only and had to be reminded that we both wanted it. We ordered a cinnamon roll to share, along with our omelets. We had assumed that the roll would come out quickly, which didn't happen. It took a while, and we were still eating it when our meals came out. Someone other than our waitress brought out our food. This person also refilled our coffee. We saw the waitress walking about the restaurant, but she somehow became blind to our table. It even took a while for us to get the check. We both got everything omelets and toast. I hate strawberry preserves, so I avoid it. The omelet was as delicious as expected, and we each took half of it home. We will be back at some point, though we hope that the service would be more attentive at that juncture. read more

There is outdoor seating available. However, if you are not coming for the look of the restaurant, the food is good. If comfort food is what you are looking for, you'll get it there. Keys was close to our hotel while visiting St. Paul. We were happily surprised. Monica provided super service and the coffee was excellent. We had eggs, bacon, sourdough toast and the cinnamon French toast. Outstanding! The French toast was nicely soaked through with egg, the bacon was thick enough to get crispy on the outside and still have a nice chewiness. We're only here for a long weekend but we'll be back!
