Moving nearly 2,500 away from our comfort zone- from 120 degree summers to -4 degree winters. We were in for a rude awakening as we started to look for a way to heat the second floor of our new home. I believe we were going to be taken advantage of if Dominic hadn't stepped in to work with us. After receiving multiple quotes from other contractors, not a single VERMONT company informed us about the incentives from Efficiency VERMONT- we had just moved to the area-no one had even mentioned the program to us. Dominic took no issue with downloading and sending us the proper forms. He is that vested in his company, his reputation and sincere commitment to quality customer service leaves every other competitor in the dust. I was told we would need to replace our boiler, water heater, then our heating system entirely- but, definitely need to upgrade our electrical system as a whole. One quote coming back as high as $85,000 for everything- and we supposedly needed everything or we would probably die. (Ok, not really, but it felt like we just might) Dominic walked through our home and in a little over an hour he bluntly stated most of what we were told to replace would be "completely unnecessary." We would, however, need to upgrade a few things- to include part of our existing electrical system, and this is where The Gas Doctors connected us with Duchesne Electric- Jeff Duchesne is one of the best electricians we could have ever worked with to prepare our home for a safe, environmentally efficient future. Quality works with quality- just more proof that The Gas Doctors are the real deal.

I appreciate their effort in trying to resolve our previous differences and would now recommend their services They were called to fix a heating problem in our condo. We weren't up for another two weeks and discovered when we returned that it wasn't fixed, even though we paid them for their work. We called them again and they said they'd have to charge us an extra weekend rush charge to come back, or they could put us on their regular schedule and we'd have wait a few days. It's now been 5 days and they haven't returned our calls to hear if the work has been done. I'd avoid this business based on this experience

When I called they said they did have a record of my call, but their contract accounts for a fill-up prior to a sale. I have never in my life heard of such a thing. While the people who purchased our property opened an account at Irving with our recommendation. When I said we were arranging for the new owners to make the payment, Irving said they would only accept payment from me. Customer-centric? Nope!

I came home from work and the house was 40 degrees. After some troubleshooting, I determined the tank was empty. The telephone customer service rep was extremely patronizing and insisted the issue was due to a problem with the furnace. An auto delivery occurred a few days prior. The tank was 95% full at that time and was "topped off" with 5 gallons. A service tech was sent "to fix the furnace". After replacing a few parts, the pilot would not light. A second tech was sent to assist with "the repair". He was not able to find the issue, and on a whim checked the tank. GUESS WHAT? IT WAS EMPTY! The Auto-delivery person had misread the gauge. Here I am, my second winter using Irving and the same scenario occurred last week. When a delivery truck was finally sent out, I insisted the driver remain until I got the furnace going. After several attempts by myself and the delivery man, the pilot would not light. On a whim I asked the driver if he had opened the line after filling the tank. He responded "yes, but I'll double check". GUESS WHAT? The LINE WAS CLOSED! Once opened, the pilot was lit, and the furnace continues to function. My Grandfather worked for Merrill Gas in Brattleboro, Vt many years ago. Sometimes I would accompany him on emergent service calls on the weekends. Sadly, those days of top notch, respectful, customer service by competent individuals are long gone. Not so sure my employer discount is worth the hassel.

The unit has needed one part or another every single year.. Aside from and in spite of annual upkeep, he has cost me additional money every single year. Now I have learned that the unit was vented improperly and had a significant effect on the fresh air circulation. Which in turn has cause soot build up on the unit. More money. I called at 5pm in the evening, expecting to get a call back later that week. He called me at 6:30pm, and went to see the job within 2 days. The quote was very fair, and significantly below the one other person I had been able to get to look at the job. A week and a half later, we had a new furnace and new hot water heater, 2 days ahead of schedule. John communicated with me daily, let me know of anything unexpected, and was on time and on budget. Managing repairs from afar is always a challenge, but John made it easy with great communication, including pictures.
