It's been almost 3 years since my family's kitten was euthanized without my consent and I still think of that day often. Our kitten was almost 5 months old when he became lethargic and I took him in as an emergency. I brought him in, in his carrier wrapped snuggly in a t-shirt that smelled like his favorite human, my then 7 year old. Before we arrived I had hand-fed him, helped him drink water, kept him warm but realized I needed help. So I viewed our pet insurance website and searched for an emergency vet close by. He had insurance. When we arrived, we were called back rather quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We only sat in the examine room for maybe 5-10 minutes before he was taken further back without me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 5-10 minutes more and a staff member returned to tell me without extensive treatment he wouldn't make it. They didn't give a reason he had become unwell. No tests were ran. He just didn't respond to something they had given him, so that was their conclusion. I was escorted back to see him, where he lay breathing shallow, eyes open, and needle connected but no fluid attached. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked questions. Requested more information. I was informed again they didn't believe the chances of him making it were likely.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I NEVER gave the permission to euthanize him. I cried and asked for more information. A young lady came over, placed her hand on him and said he had passed. At the time I was a few months postpartum and it took me a while to process that the decision had been made for me. I read his paperwork sometime later and saw that I was charged for euthanizing him. I NEVER requested that. I was informed he was "gone" while I was standing in front of him. No additional fluids were given to him. He had insurance. I reported this establishment to the insurance company when I reviewed the paperwork. I think of that day at random, like today. My family and I cried for months, especially my little girl. It was heartbreaking. We had a 4AM emergency with our cat, Franklin. We had no idea where to go so looked online for a close 24 hour emergency care facility. We were lucky enough to find Keystone. They told us to come right in, without ever having met our cat before. Everyone was so kind and patient. It turned out there was nothing they could do for him, so we had to make the hardest decision all pet owners have to make, to end their beloved pet's suffering. My son and I brought our beloved dog Tucker during bad weather between Chistmas 2025 and New years. It was obvious to both of us that he was terminal. We both cried like babies. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Vet seemed concerned but the front desk person was cold an uncaring.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We agreed to euthanasia and were told to sit in the "comfort" room and they would sedate Tucker so we could say our goodbyes. Tucker was brought in to us struggling and yelping and in obvious pain. The Vet came in after I called out to her and finally relieved his pain. My son and I cannot get those horrible moments out of our heads. I would never recommend them to anyone for that reason. My dog deserved a better end then that. read more

My cat ate something and according to his primary care doctor who did an x-ray, he needed surgery. I bought him here after calling and verifying that they could do the surgery and had a surgeon present. Upon arrival the x-ray CD from his PCP wasn't working, so the doctor who was there repeated it at no cost to me (thank you!!). Upon reviewing the x-ray she said that he did indeed have an obstruction, but she thought it might also be in his esophagus, and to be safe, he needed to be scoped. However...they don't scope at Keystone. Sigh. She sent me to Penn Vet - where they do eve.ry.thing. She did not charge me for the emergency visit or the x-ray. We went to Penn thinking he'd need a scope and an abdominal explore and were done with Keystone. After several hours at Penn they were able to verify he did NOT need a scope and that he only needed the surgery. Their quote for that was $5-7,000, so I called Keystone back to get their quote. It was much lower, at $3-5,000. Off I went, back to Keystone! I dropped him off at around 10:30pm on Christmas Eve and was walked through the estimate line-by-line. They are THOROUGH here. My baby ended up having surgery on Christmas morning by Kristen Nau, who called me beforehand to go over all potential complications. She called me afterward to give me the good news that everything went as planned. I asked her what possible recommendations or ideas she had on how to get my cat to stop compulsively eating every damn thing in sight. She did some research and then called me back a couple hours later with about 3-4 ideas of what it could be. I can't wait to get some tests run to see if any of these things are the cause for his chronic pica. I picked him up the day after Christmas and was given sooooo many details and instructions and explanations by Becca (I think). And best of all, the operation cost less than the lowest end of their quote! I am extremely happy with Keystone. They saved my boy's life and didn't bleed me dry for it. read more

They do a good job at keeping your pup healthy, but man do they charge a fortune to do so. By far the priciest vet i've been to. But, they are the only in the area open at 11pm for an urgent issue. In the future, if the issue wasn't too urgent, I would drive to the Conshohocken location. The biggest negative for me was the lack of communication. Waited outside for an hour and a half- we asked multiple times if we should come back given that we live 5 minutes away. We kept getting "15 minutes" as our answer for how long it will be, and that we should wait in our car. Tl;dr: This place will help your animal with urgent issues (in our case, an ingrown nail) at any time, but they will charge 3x more than their competition to do so and have you wait for 1+ hour instead of just coming back. read more

Three nights ago, my German Shepherd was in clear distress. I called one nearby animal hospital, and they wouldn't take Diva. I then called Keystone. As soon as I described her symptoms, the response was "get her here immediately," and they were waiting at the door for us to arrive. What they knew (and I didn't) from my description was that she had late stage cancer that could rupture, and she'd bleed out. A physical exam and x-rays confirmed that the cancer had spread to her lungs. Having to make the most horrible decision of my life, the staff were extremely empathic and reassuring that we were doing the right thing. They gave us as much time as we needed to peacefully say goodbye. When the time came, they did their job professionally and with the utmost humanity. I have no idea how they are with routine veterinary care, but if their end of life care is an indication, I suspect they do exceptional work with that too. read more

New Year's Eve took are of our dog immediately and diagnosed Excellent care and service.

This is Romeo. He was a healthy 7-year-old Yorkie in perfect health. The love of our lives. On October 14th we had an appointment for a surgical evaluation to repair a small hernia with Dr. Dina M. Schofield. My veterinarian diagnosed Romeo 5 days earlier with a small hernia and also had concerns with a small mass on his colon. We put our trust in Keystone due to a recommendation from our veterinarian. The examination went wrong: After twenty-five minutes for an exam that should have taken no more than 10 minutes, Dr. Schofield comes out and tells us that Romeo is bleeding from his backside and having involuntary prolapses from his backside. We asked her to bring Romeo out. My heart dropped to the floor when I saw the condition he was in. Clearly in distress, in pain bleeding from his rear end. Dr. Schofield then told us to take Romeo to the emergency room because he could be bleeding internally. Think about that for a moment: We are at a veterinary hospital that specializes in 24/7 emergency surgery who is telling us to take our dog to another emergency room. Her statement made me nauseous and I was panic-stricken. As I am writing this I can barely hold back my tears. Rather than getting into a verbal debate as to why she is telling us to take our dog to another emergency room hospital. I realized I was in the face of an incompetent doctor who made a mistake and critically injured my dog. Romeo's Last hours: I rushed my Yorkie to Malvern Veterinary Hospital where he was admitted immediately. He was scheduled for a CT-Scan in the morning to determine the extent of his injuries. I was awakened at 4 am on October 15th, my dog was dying from toxic shock due to the internal bleeding and if I wanted to spend time with him before he passes I was to come immediately. I arrived at the hospital at 5 am. Upon gazing at his body I was in shock at his condition. He had a golf ball size lump on his backside. I asked the doctor if he was in pain and she confirmed that he was. At this point I had the doctor put Romeo to sleep. My wife and I held him in our arms until his heart stopped beating. I cannot express in words the pain his passing has caused. His passing was needless, Dr. Schofield was negligent and incompetent in my view. I am sure that she did not intentionally cause Romeo harm, most likely accidental, but her actions after the damage was caused was unforgivable. Romeo should have been treated there and then. Instead, she washed her hands and turned her back on a precious member of my family. read more

Can we say horrible from walking into the door? The environment is cold, unwelcoming, and the staff unfriendly. Even doctors, I question their credentials and suppose someone has to be the C student in veterinary medicine. I should have known by my current vet's recommendation that this should not be an option for me or anybody else's pet. SCAMMERS definitely that do not explain cost or give you a conservative treatment available!!! Overpriced and like to up sell not giving the customer options. Very all or nothing just to keep their doors open. They do not care about the pet parents just how much they can extract from your wallet. If it were not a weekend, I would have never made this an option to walk through the doors. The doctor contradicted herself and I was smart enough to see it lowering the deal as I was practically walking out the door. I did not trust them as far as I could throw them. Another review mentioned treated so kindly and friendly, HUH? I think not! They must have been dazed and confused. My vet recommended VSEC in Conshohocken or Hope in Malvern. I love my child with paws, however, steer clear of this place. read more

This place is a rip of. They were very nice in the beginning. I paid $2100 for my dearest sweet cat that was euthanized in this place. That happened on April 26 and I called them to ask why didn't I get a detailed receipt? At this point they stopped being nice as they were when we brought our cat. Please avoid going to that place if you can.Today is May 1st and to this day I don't know what I paid for. I also found out that the condition my cat had is treatable. They did not bother to tell me that, so they can charge another $200+ for euthanasia.Very disappointed and sad. read more

Zero stars if I could. My 2 year old dog, Cody, got his tail caught in the car door yesterday. We were alarmed by the amount of bleeding so we went to the nearest emergency vet, keystone. They took Cody back to shave the hair to visualize the wound. It took maybe a minute for a doctor to come in and tell me the tip of the tail needs to be amputated but could wait until tomorrow. They also wanted 2,000$ for this procedure!!!!! Thankfully she told us it could wait until tomorrow so I took him to Penn vet first thing this morning where he was seen by ED and surgical team and they deemed amputation unnecessary. I was also told even if they chose to do amputation it would have only been $600!!!!!!! So keystone is overpriced and willing to perform unnecessary procedures on animals. I can't even say they were kind. I couldn't recommend penn vet more, I could actually tell they cared about Cody and were kind when speaking to me and not just about the money. read more

Our dog was operated on unnecessarily...and thankfully survived. We took our 8 week old puppy there on the advice from reg vet. He was very lethargic, his tongue hanging out. I was very scared he wasn't going to make it. They took him right away and couldn't I'd been kinder. Turns out he ingested something that was toxic to him. The doctor flushed him out and was going to keep him for the night. But within 30 mins he was back up jumping and running like a puppy should. I can't thank the staff enough for the passion and service they gave us. read more

My wife recently had an appointment scheduled for our dog. The morning of the day that the appointment was scheduled weather reports forecast freezing rain for that day. She does not drive in those conditions, so she called and cancelled her appointment on their voice mail, and told their voice mail that they could go ahead and charge her the missed appointment fee of $15.50. I found out about this the next day when I received a form email from them stating that they would be charging us this fee. I called and politely spoke with their manager who refused to withdraw this charge, telling me that their refusal was due to the fact that my wife had given them permission to do so, even though I was withdrawing that permission; and more importantly because her cancellation was not made 24 hours before the appointment was scheduled. They might be a good clinic. I don't know. But this is not about the money charge, as $15.50 will certainly not break our bank. This is about conducting reasonable good, considerate business practices - of which I feel this is not. I am glad that they are not the only vet clinic in State College, as they lost our future business over this incident. read more

My 5 month old sweet rescue puppy, a schnauzer mix likes to chew sticks. This evening he found himself with a stick lodged in his teeth across the rear of his jaw. Fortunately we found keystone just under 2 miles from our house. I called, a live person answered promptly. Right up front she kindly explained what the base charges were and what we could expect cost wise. I appreciated the info which eliminated any surprises. We arrived within 10 mins and a super nice staff person came to retrieve Barkley from our vehicle (COVID precautions) and brought him inside. Though the need for sedation was possible, they removed the stick without it, and sent us home with a prescription for 100 kisses! We had a terrific experience with keystone! Every single individual with whom we came in contact was very kind to our puppy and to us and that means a lot these days. Highly recommend. read more

Our dog was being treated for lymphoma, but a few weeks ago on a day the Oncologist office was closed, he woke up in a bad way. After calling my dog's oncologist she advised me to take him to my local emergency vet. I was a mess of course because I knew this was most likely the end for my baby. I was treated so kindly by the staff and Dr. there. They really did go above and beyond what I expected. I knew we made the right decision and I was grateful he was showed love and compassion in his final moments by people who had never even met him before. We even got a hand written thank you card.
