If I could give zero stars, I would. My daughter brought her cat here to be treated for a UTI Because she had blood in her urine. After completing the antibiotics, she still had blood. They offered to bring her in at 4 pm which meant my daughter had to leave work early to make it. She went there at 4 and the office was closed! This back and forth went on for a month and a half - her poor baby was in pain and suffering and finally had to be put down while on antibiotics over the weekend. She had a severe UTI and was in kidney failure, not to mention anemic due to the blood loss. The pain and suffering her cat went through and the anxiety it caused my daughter was unnecessary! We have been going to Lansdowne Veterinary Hospital (including when it was Emas Pet Hospital) for about 10 years. Our dog/cat is always handled with care and compassion. Appointments are easily made and we never have to wait long even when we had an emergency appointment. Our dog was elderly and very sick. The compassion and care the doctor and staff gave to our dog and to my husband and I is beyond amazing. I couldn't ask for a better group of people to help care for the pets we love. We will definitely keep coming back. read more

I really hate to write a negative review but I'm afraid LVH has gone downhill the last couple of years. We've been bringing our cats here for years and used to really like the care. However, over time, the care our cats have received has felt rushed, and the front office staff seems disorganized at times. Additionally, I feel my senior cat was misdiagnosed which led to a lot of stress and financial strain. The doctor here said that my cat needed to be put on a kidney diet due to her kidney levels being slightly out of range. The explanation was far from helpful, but following the doctor's recommendation, we placed our cat on kidney food, spending a significant amount of funds trying to find a type she would eat. We ended up switching vets and were told by the new vet that it made no sense whatsoever for her to be on a special diet. I realize there is some variation in medicine, but this situation combined with the other changes sealed the deal for us in terms of not coming back to this vet. I think they maybe need more staff or a reorganization in order to get back to the quality of care they used to provide. read more

Friendly techs and desk staff, but I will avoid this vet office in the future. It is a rushed, chaotic treatment environment where the doctor gave fleeting, superficial attention to my pet and my concerns for my pet. 1st visit: New to the neighborhood, I brought my dog in for an appointment as a new patient last summer (2022) due to a non-emergency concern. Doctor was friendly and engaging, but forgot to weigh my dog, and nevertheless proceeded to prescribe medication without that weight info. Also urged me to use a less-expensive "off-label" version of the med, rather than the veterinary version. While I appreciated the concern for my budget, it struck me as odd and potentially dangerous to offer off-label meds to a dog whose weight he did not know and with whose history he was unfamiliar (he had made it clear he had not taken time to peruse the medical records I had submitted to the office). Red flags, but I decided to give the office another chance because they are close to my home, they had good Yelp reviews, the staff was friendly, and we were all just barely emerging from pandemic protocols (I had to sit in the car while they took my dog inside for his exam). 2nd visit: Different doctor-- Dr Wineburgh this time. He came into the exam room rushing and fussing at the tech about not wanting to get behind schedule. Offered my dog treats without my permission; when I asked him to stop because off-diet foods tend to give my dog diarrhea, he then repeatedly mocked and berated me during the visit-- by way of cutesy dialogue with my pet-- for not letting my dog have treats (more than twice, in a sarcastic tone: "oooo, Mom says you can't have treats" "Oops, can't give you a treat or Mom won't like it!" etc. etc. ). One would think a vet would appreciate a pet parent for being alert and guarding their pet's well-being, not mock them for it! After the rushed and perfunctory exam targeting the areas of concern that had brought me to the office, the doctor exited the room quickly, leaving my dog without (again!) an accurate weight having been taken though meds needed to be prescribed, and leaving me with unanswered questions and unaddressed concerns. The tech finally got my dog weighed, and when I caught the doctor in the hallway, he seemed incapable or unwilling to clearly and helpfully answer a simple question about whether or not my dog was at a healthy weight for his breed and age (as I wanted to know whether I should adjust my pet's food intake). Other questions during the exam had already been deflected, dismissed as irrelevant or unanswered, so this final bit convinced me that this office does not have the resources, and Dr Wineburgh has neither the temperament nor the skill, to give me and my pet the quality of attention and care to which their exorbitant pricing ought to entitle us. Again, the rest of the staff is friendly and tries to be helpful (hence 2 rather than 1 stars for this review), and the office does have a few very positive reviews from years past, so your mileage may vary. I just wish I had seen a review like this before I went there-- I would have chosen a different vet office to "audition" first in my new neighborhood. read more

unprofessional expensive and absolutely not going back!! the doctor pretty much man handled my cat and then was surprised as to why he was growling and scared?? she prescribed him sedatives because she deemed him nervous and unpredictable. my cat sleeps all day and lets me hold him and pet him as long as im gentle and normal. this lady straight up grabbed him with no introduction or warning and he was scared obviously. They charged me almost $70 for a "checkup" which I dont consider her scaring the shit out of my cat a check up. she put a muzzel on his face and had a coworker hold him down with her to give him his rabies shot, which was honestly unnecessary and hard to watch. She was clearly scared of cats!! strange to be a vet and not understand how to approach/be gentle with cats specifically. They also try to charge you for so many services you dont ask for! At the end the guy apologized for my "bad experience" and i didnt even complain so that just goes to show you ... read more

I never got a chance to make an appointment. The receptionist was very short with me. She came across like she didn't want to make an appointment for my sick cat. She offered me an appointment the was so far out that it didn't make sense to schedule. She may have been having a bad day but I had a sick cat that needed care. I ended up calling another vet. read more

This is the best animal hospital! Immaculate clean and absolutely no smell whatsoever! Dr. Derek is so kind and gentle. Shaylah is such an animal lover. All the staff are super sweet, actually. We had a brand new puppy and a bad experience at the first vet we went to so we were looking to go somewhere new. Off of a recommendation we booked an appointment with Dr. Wineburgh at Lansdowne Vet and could not be happier to have switched! Dr.Wineburgh is wonderful with our little puppy and every appointment we come out less worried and more educated. He is great at what he does and our little guy is very happy and healthy. Dr. Emas is a sweetheart. He truly, truly loves animals and treats each patient as though they were his one and only. Each of our pets (a cat and three small dogs) are patients of Dr. Emas and love him as much as my husband and I do! Friendly staff and the other doctors are great as well. read more

I had a bad experience with the vet I had been taking my cat to, so I decided to take my time and do research to choose a new one. I was surprised to find a vet with such high ratings -- I work in pet health and know that it's nearly impossible to please everyone especially when their pets are involved! But after my first visit to Lansdowne I can see why. It's the thoughtful little things: like offering towels sprayed with Feliway in the waiting room to calm anxious cats, giving treats and spray cheese in the exam room, checking the waiting room to make sure there are no dogs before sending you back out with your cat, and offering lots of free samples of food. Dr. Derek was thorough in his exam but did not push any unnecessary procedures or treatments on us. He's very kind and made both me and my cat feel comfortable. Also the office is a convenient 10 min drive from where I live in West Philly. All in all I'm very happy to have found this vet and am glad to know that they'll be there for us if my cat needs care! read more
