Dr. Smagala has been amazing with my dog, Pete. I adopted him in mid-October and was given a credit at VCA through the shelter, so I went to Old Marple for a visit. The shelter had said he had end-stage dental disease, among a bunch of other bad medical issues. Dr. Smagala has been so informative and helpful in understanding Pete's actual medical situation (way less awful than the shelter said), and how best to treat everything in ways that are realistic and affordable. Pete is doing amazingly under the care of this place!! :)

It isn't often that I am in need of emergency veterinary care. This is luckily a 'once in a decade' experience. In past instances, we have always taken our beastie to VHUP. They've gotten great care, however it's almost always very busy, parking is always a challenge, etc. So when yesterday I noticed some not-good-looking-or-smelling ooze from one of our cat's ear, I hit Dr. Google and found Old Marple as an alternative. I called first, they were very nice, gathered all my information in advance and told me to come right in. They informed me the treatment costs were the same, with an addition of $150 for emergency fee. Not a surprise. 20 minutes later we arrived. Outside the lot is big and well lit, the hospital itself is in a converted old 2nd Empire house. It's called "Old Marple"to boot (which means to me it's been there forever) so I'm picturing paneled walls, linoleum tile, issues of Good Housekeeping from 1978, etc. It's the most beautiful animal hospital I've ever been in. Truly. Well lit. Expansive waiting area, super clean, beautiful photos, comfortable chairs. I was greeted quickly by friendly staff who were ready for my girl and I. We were taken to a treatment room - again, beautiful, super clean, quiet even though I knew there were many other people there. A tech came, very nice, we talked about what was going on, then took my cat to the back for treatment. Told me I could wait wherever and they would find me. Cool. I wandered, found some vending, got a water, chatted with the reception staff, felt very sad for one woman who brought in her animal that had just passed, the staff was super with her, first coming right away to take the animal and see what they could do, understanding what her wishes were with recitation, coming out and apologizing because her pet was gone. I watched as others came in with ill animals, each were treated with kindness, and watched as others left with their pets, treats being offered, etc. Dr. Patel came and brought me to a treatment room where he reviewed my options, suggesting the more conservative one, which I agreed to. He was patient and thorough and reasonable. I was again free to wander, watching others come and go, chatting with the staff. Most work only emergency. Why? One said she felt it was her calling. Another said she liked how fast paced it could be. All really seemed to want to be there, which was cool. My girl was brought out to me, with instructions. The bill was what I would expect from an emergency hospital - right around $500. Not that much higher than a scheduled visit, where I figure the care would have been around $350 for what they did. When I got home there was an e-mailed receipt, and this morning there were e-mailed instructions for care too. I was, in short, impressed. It's a clean, well lit, modern facility with staff who are responsive and pleasant, a doctor who was patient, kind and suggested a reasonable course of treatment and a fee in line with what I'd expect. I sincerely hope I do not have to go back for emergency veterinary care. If I do, l would not hesitate to return.

As a board member of the rescue mentioned in Francesca G review and a very active part of said…read morerescue, I feel the need to correct some misinformation left in that review. Dr. Mann and his team have always gone above and beyond for every single dog and cat we have brought to them in the 3 years of our rescue partnership (well over 100 animals). Whether it was a simple visit for vaccines or a middle of the night emergency, they have always been professional and polite. We can always trust Dr Mann to "give it to us straight" without sugar coating that animals condition. His staff has cried with us as we have made the hard decisions of letting a dog go to the rainbow bridge. They have taken their personal time to escort medical fosters to events and to just get them out of the office for awhile. They have celebrated healing and adoptions. Their staff has even adopted from our rescue. I wouldnt trust any other vet in the area with my personal pets. I am in this office multiple times a week and interact with all of the staff. Francesca's review is not based on truth in any way and we are embarrassed that her and her mother have gone out of their way to damage the reputation of such amazing people.

I am writing this review to share my experience with Springfield Veterinarian and Dental Clinic…read moreregarding the treatment of my dog's ear hematoma . When I first brought my dog to the clinic, the veterinarian agreed to treat the condition and recommended a course of treatment. Over the course of three visits, my dog underwent two procedures and one surgery. Unfortunately, instead of improving, my dog's condition continued to worsen after each visit. As a result of the unsuccessful treatment, I was forced to seek emergency care at another veterinary facility. The emergency veterinarian determined that additional intervention was necessary and performed a fourth procedure. In addition to the physical discomfort and prolonged suffering experienced by my dog, I incurred significant additional veterinary expenses that I would not have expected if the condition had been successfully treated from the outset. Based on my experience, I believe the care provided by Springfield Veterinarian and Dental Clinic fell below the standard I reasonably expected for the treatment of an ear hematoma. The repeated procedures did not resolve the problem, the condition worsened over time, and I ultimately had to seek emergency treatment elsewhere. Pet owners considering this clinic should ask detailed questions about treatment options, expected outcomes, and follow-up care before proceeding. Unfortunately, my experience resulted in additional costs, additional procedures, and prolonged suffering for my dog.

Both my animals received care that was below my expectations. One surgery they promised a 2 inch incision, she was cut from the top of her shoulder to her underbelly. Medication just for that was close to $500 each time I left there and went to an animal hospital in Philly within 2 weeks it was done. Outrageous. Unfortunately after all this I lost both of my girl. 14 yo and 15yo I vacillated if I should write this but it still haunts me how we were treated. He lost weight and they thought maybe it was a mass or infection. After she left, my normal hamster couldn't walk or breathe after the exam . They wound up putting him on oxygen and he died ten minutes later . I am not blaming them for his death but they definitely contributed. Working in the medical field as a nurse for 20 years he prob aspirated or maybe the tumor perforated when pressed (there was blood coming out his private areas). I do think it was the deep pressing . I know you have to do that to examine him but I think if I never brought him there , yea he may have passed in a few months peacefully in his home from a tumor - not traumatically after an exam. That morning he was running in his cage, eating , etc - they say this couldn't been avoided . Yea it could - if you didn't press so hard on my hamsters he would be alive. It happened immediately after he was examined. Now I'm devastated I blame myself for bringing him there. He prob would have passed at home in a few months, but peacefully with me. I won't ever go there again. She was nice but not that empathetic, I got him cremated and got charged 400 to leave without my hamster. Least they could do is pay for that. I'm sorry they def contributed to his death. I never write reviews I never complain, but when I feel something is a miss I have to say something esp with my medical knowledge. My poor Humphrey.

I left a message for the vet and also sent a more in depth e-mail, per the website contact information. I did not expect an immediate response, as the site says the doctor is out and about all day long but does check in several times a day. Nowhere on the site does it indicate house calls are no longer being made. NOWHERE. About 5 hours after I contacted him, he returned my call. That amount of time passing seemed reasonable. He asked me what my question was. HUH?! I briefly described my cat's issue. His response? 'Oh, you need to see a vet.' I asked what HE was if not a vet. The response? 'I no longer do house calls. The emergency room veterinarians and technicians were amazing. One ER doctor called me multiple times over the course of 2 days just to keep me updated on my baby. How amazing! Then Jasper was transferred from emergency medicine to the internal medicine team. This is when we met Dr. DiBenedetto- our hero. I cannot say enough amazing things about this man. He showed true compassion towards me and Jasper, he worked extremely hard to determine what was causing Jaspers illness, spent a great deal of time providing me with all the details of his illness, treated him appropriately, and SAVED HIM! Nine days after discharge, Jasper started to feel unwell again. Luckily we already had a follow up visit scheduled, so off we went to Redbank again. Dr. DiBenedetto promptly determined the diagnosis, explained to me in detail what we could do to help him, and provided me with honest and empathetic options. We decided to treat Jasper at home, as funds were tight after a 4 day hospital stay. Now two weeks after that last visit, Jasper is THRIVING!! He saved him for 2nd time!! Jasper turned 9 on June 6th and I owe it all to Redbank's amazing staff- especially Dr. DiBenedetto, his tech Liz, and the rest of the internal medicine team. The empathy, compassion, thoroughness, respectfulness, and intelligence that Dr. DiBenedetto possesses is truly exceptional. Thank you!!!! PS- I also love that they have a coffee station, water, tea, and a vending machine. The establishment is always very clean and the front desk staff are polite.
