Newly adopted pup, Pup tax attached, initial visit went with a warm welcome they even reached out to us within days of adoption to make an appointment. I've now realized it's a money grab method to over book themselves before you see their terrible reviews or at least say they do... TLDR: Telephone tag and CONSTANT miscommunication on medicine for pup. Tried to overcharge, still had to double pay because our wishes were disregarded. Final straw was booking sick visit and being pushed toward a $250 emergency vet visit with them because "there's nothing available." Then being called back within 3 minutes to give us the day we asked for originally (two days later.) After that first appointment the pup was tested positive for two parasites. When they called us to inform and ask about medication we wanted "the quickest available option" which was communicated exactly as stated. We were told "okay not a problem it can be shipped right to your home" assuming it'd be fast shipping (like overnight) and it wouldn't be available for pickup same day (was already mid afternoon) we didn't question it since we explicitly asked for the fastest option. Two days later we call to figure out what happened they say the shipping company is separate from them and it might take a few days and they needed payment over the phone before it could be processed. After charging us for ~$200 we were told to just wait the few days. A week after the initial call and a couple days with no email updates on the medicine shipping we called again. We were told that "of course we could come in same day to pick it up from their pharmacy"... then when we got there they wanted us to pay AGAIN and said they're separate from the online pharmacy and that they couldn't cancel it. Of course we already paid so we just left it alone and waited another day. Now I'm pregnant and you're telling me we can't figure ANYTHING out for my pup when he's starting to show worsening signs of the parasites? I was fed up and called again we were even ready to drive to the online pharmacy place to just do the "shipping" ourselves. It was a Friday and we were told if it wasn't there by Monday we could come get it and get a free dose. Weekend came and went, on Monday when leaving for the vet ironically enough ONE medicine showed up the other still had no tracking information or updates. We still showed up to the vet and restated our problems again... They never gave us the free dose but let us pay for the two doses we needed to treat our pup. Terrible. Today was the final straw considering our pup is sick and we figured a few more days to a week for an appointment would be warranted. Even considering every time we showed up their lobby was empty, the parking lot wasn't full, and their name board had plenty of space... We were told we wouldn't get an appointment anytime soon but "the emergency vet is only $250." We had to even call back to re ask what was the actual next available appointment was since we were being pushed toward their emergency vet instead of what we called for. The next available was only two weeks out, but especially after all of our problems here we just said okay and took the information so we could weigh our options because even our emergency vet (away from this place) is a better option for quick services. VCA called us back not even 3 minutes later to say someone ironically JUST canceled on Monday (the day we asked about and a day wait instead) and we could have their spot... I had just walked away from my spouse hanging up the phone about the two week appointment for the bathroom and came back in to him agreeing to the appointment. That's how quick that turn around was. I immediately called back (suddenly they didn't answer quick, we were on hold for 20 mins, they ended my 10 minute hold call, and didn't answer until I used option 0 to just speak to someone and told them to cancel all services. Of course it was met with attitude instead of the customer service aspect of figuring out what was wrong and what they can improve. It's obvious they don't care. As for Parker don't worry the new vet got us an appointment today and we're on the way to his checkup now. read more

My son and myself brought his dog in on Sunday. She was lethargic and I felt like she was barely breathing. As we pulled in the driveway we were met by a woman who was one of the most caring and kind person. She asked us questions about the dog and the went and got the nurse who I absolutely cannot say enough good things about her she assured us it was something the dog ate and she would be fine in 24 hours. Well she was right on time w the 24 hr markI.I was never so happy to see this dog back in action. I have had nothing but positive experiences with VCA Old Marple Animal hospital, and highly recommend them to anyone local with a reactive or nervous dog. My sweet anxious rescue dog Ziggy can be extremely nervous at the vet--often making it difficult to get his vaccines and bloodwork done, or exams in general (which he needs for good health!) Ziggy's first few times at VCA Old Marple back in early 2024, he was due for some vaccines and a regular exam after being adopted from the shelter. We were scheduled with Dr. Patel, who I was initially a bit concerned with since my Ziggy is not always comfortable with men. To my delight, Dr. Patel was insanely patient, kind, and made anxious Ziggy feel at-ease during our appointment! He truly went out of his way to make our experience as comfortable and pleasant as possible, which Ziggy and I were beyond grateful for. More recently in 2025, our appointments have been for routine exams and bloodwork, as well as getting Ziggy on anxiety medication. The vet techs and Drs we have met with have all been exceptional with him, understanding his needs and temperament and being very patient and caring towards him. In particular, our experience with Dr. Earle has been wonderful! I always call when I arrive to make sure the coast is clear for Ziggy so we can head straight to the exam room, and they also allow me to pay for the visit in the exam room afterwards so I don't have to wait in the lobby with my sometimes dog-reactive boy. After discovering the indoor/ outdoor cat I was caring for was paralyzed near the house, it was decided that I was to take the poor guy to VCA Old Marple. It was an emergency so his regular vet was unavailable. I was treated well while filling out the financial responsibility paperwork but when the question (met very quickly by the "doctor") to put the cat down was being decided and the vet realized I had no way to pay the "several thousands" of dollars to maintain the cats health, I was left and forgotten in the exam room while she discussed the options with the owner. I totally understand having the owner, my good friend, go over the specifics. They were just so clinical, unprofessional and condescending. This is the second time I've been forced to use this facility. Both times they've gouged me for unnecessary tests and X-rays...etc. When the doctors examined my pets, they take the pet to another exam room and leave me sitting in the holding cell - I mean original exam room. Yes, it was 2:30 in the morning but your supposed to be 24 hours. Dr. Smagala has been amazing with my dog, Pete. I adopted him in mid-October and was given a credit at VCA through the shelter, so I went to Old Marple for a visit. The shelter had said he had end-stage dental disease, among a bunch of other bad medical issues. Dr. Smagala has been so informative and helpful in understanding Pete's actual medical situation (way less awful than the shelter said), and how best to treat everything in ways that are realistic and affordable. This review isn't for the normal vet services but we recently had to put my dog down here and the experience went as smooth as possible. My dog who had cancer's health rapidly declined on a weekend and I knew I couldn't wait til Monday for our regular vet to be open. I called them and they were able to get us in right away. As soon as we arrived, they were waiting for us and took us straight back to a room. Everything was straight forward. The vet was kind and compassionate. The price was what I expected it to be, they have the option to get your pet's ashes and a paw print which we opted to do. I took a friendly feral I named Tip to get checked because his eye was swollen, plus I wanted him to get a rabies vaccination and a flea treatment. The entire staff were caring, informative and treated me and Tip with kindness. This was my second time going to VCA (the 1st time was last November for my indoor kitty). I was impressed during that visit also! I have decided to have VCA be our primary vet service and have forwarded all of my furbabies records to them. Like Kathleen M., If I could give a negative star I would. I came upon a kitty that had been hit by a car. When I arrived to this so called 24 hour emergency vet I went in to ask if they could help this dying cat. They had me move this suffering cat and then informed me there was NO doctor at the facility to help and would not take the cat or do ANYTHING to help. They suggested I take the cat to Keystone Vet (who was amazing!). They didn't help me move the cat they did absolutely nothing but cause this cat more pain. It isn't often that I am in need of emergency veterinary care. This is luckily a 'once in a decade' experience. In past instances, we have always taken our beastie to VHUP. They've gotten great care, however it's almost always very busy, parking is always a challenge, etc. So when yesterday I noticed some not-good-looking-or-smelling ooze from one of our cat's ear, I hit Dr. Google and found Old Marple as an alternative. I called first, they were very nice, gathered all my information in advance and told me to come right in. They informed me the treatment costs were the same, with an addition of $150 for emergency fee. Not a surprise. 20 minutes later we arrived. Outside the lot is big and well lit, the hospital itself is in a converted old 2nd Empire house. It's called "Old Marple"to boot (which means to me it's been there forever) so I'm picturing paneled walls, linoleum tile, issues of Good Housekeeping from 1978, etc. It's the most beautiful animal hospital I've ever been in. Truly. Well lit. Expansive waiting area, super clean, beautiful photos, comfortable chairs. I was greeted quickly by friendly staff who were ready for my girl and I. We were taken to a treatment room - again, beautiful, super clean, quiet even though I knew there were many other people there. A tech came, very nice, we talked about what was going on, then took my cat to the back for treatment. Told me I could wait wherever and they would find me. Cool. I wandered, found some vending, got a water, chatted with the reception staff, felt very sad for one woman who brought in her animal that had just passed, the staff was super with her, first coming right away to take the animal and see what they could do, understanding what her wishes were with recitation, coming out and apologizing because her pet was gone. I watched as others came in with ill animals, each were treated with kindness, and watched as others left with their pets, treats being offered, etc. Dr. Patel came and brought me to a treatment room where he reviewed my options, suggesting the more conservative one, which I agreed to. He was patient and thorough and reasonable. I was again free to wander, watching others come and go, chatting with the staff. Most work only emergency. Why? One said she felt it was her calling. Another said she liked how fast paced it could be. All really seemed to want to be there, which was cool. My girl was brought out to me, with instructions. The bill was what I would expect from an emergency hospital - right around $500. Not that much higher than a scheduled visit, where I figure the care would have been around $350 for what they did. When I got home there was an e-mailed receipt, and this morning there were e-mailed instructions for care too. I was, in short, impressed. It's a clean, well lit, modern facility with staff who are responsive and pleasant, a doctor who was patient, kind and suggested a reasonable course of treatment and a fee in line with what I'd expect. I had to take my older dog somewhere else in the middle of the night, as the DR here was in emergency surgery. And I could tell the difference right away. This place that I had to go to calledPACE was so expensive! They wanted 3,000 just for my dog to stay over night!!! VCA is a lot cheaper, they call and ask how your pet is doing! This hospital is very gentle and kind with my nervous puppy. I am so grateful for their expert handling skills and friendly attitudes. My pup is certainly very grateful too! The veterinarians, techs, and staff here are informative, kind, and easy to talk to. I didn't drive away with any questions unanswered. In terms of COVID-19, they have a very safe protocol in place and I am very comfortable booking appointments during the pandemic. Way to go VCA Old Marple! read more

I've seen both very positive and very negative reviews, but the negative reviews just don't align with my experience. We recently moved to the area and actually had our dog's annual visit set up, but before we could get to that visit, she started getting really sick. She was an older dog and she had been slowing, but it turned out (like at least another commenter here) she had cancer all in her lungs and it had rapidly expanded and just was too much for her. The doctors were so compassionate and caring to a dog they had never before the night we came in and the next day when we had to put her down. As far as costs, the staff and doctors seemed to do everything to actually limit our expenses. The doctor had prescribed 3 scans, but after the first scan, it became clear what the issue was and that it was just very advanced cancer; so they canceled the other two tests. If they were out for just making money they could have easily run the other two and charged us (and I wouldn't have known the difference) but instead, they saved us a lot of money (and of course more testing on our already sick pup). Also, I saw some critiques of the staff, but everyone I dealt with was so caring and lovely. Even when we had to go pick her ashes (which was awful), as soon as I came in and told the woman at the front desk why I was there I just was greated with so much compassion. She didn't just hand over a bag with our dog's ashes. She carried her with both hands, supported the bag like it was containing something incredibly valuable (which it was), and walked around the counter and handed it to me carefully and expressed her remorse. I don't know why that interaction stood out to me so much; but it truly made a difference. Afterwards, we also received handwritten cards (that were unique to our dog; not just form letters) from both the first doc that saw her and the doc that had to put her down. Again, for a dog they had only met once. It really meant a lot. read more

I came in because my, cat Gigi was throwing up. ( not your hairball ate too fast throw up ) and she was lethargic. I thought maybe she was having a bad reaction to something and was afraid she would end up dehydrated. Let me note that it was before 8pm ( 6:40pm to be exact when I got there ) but, they slid that $210 emergency after 8pm hospital charge. Now my final bill came out to $1038 after her X-ray ( abdomen ) and the fee for someone to read the X-rays, having a blood test and urine test. I was told by Dr Patel that there was a kidney stone but, it was probably normal. I came home and made an appointment with my regular vet to have her looked at again. Old Marple was going to squeeze as much money out of me as they could for that " kidney stone that meant nothing." ( the stone concerned me ) The next day Dr. Patel called me and left a voicemail with X-ray and blood/urine results. He said on the message that Gigi had kidney stones, an enlarged kidney and her kidney values were high. That I must get Gigi back to the hospital for IV fluids, and medication to help her. Yet the next day my cat was eating and drinking normal again. Then Dr Patel called the next night ( mind you I'm being called at night when the prices would be higher ). He left me another voicemail telling me I must get Gigi in there so she could the get correct medication, IV Fluids for her dehydration. She would also have to say the night of course on the weekend. ( it was extremely important as per Old Marple ) For the next few weeks Gigi was eating normal, drinking normal, playing. I took Gigi to her vet appointment with the trustworthy Veterinarian. Gigi was looked over she was physically healthy and we scheduled blood and urine tests. To make a long story short I received a call from the Trustworthy Veterinarian today 3/2 Gigi's blood test came back normal and healthy. Then the Trustworthy Doctor broke down the high kidney values from Old Marple's tests 3 weeks ago and the kidney values from the blood test from last week with the Trustworthy Veterinary Hospital. ( Dramatically lower readings because, the doctor was kind of confused but, happy to give me good news.) Her readings were very healthy readings. I believe Old Marple tries to make you pay for services not needed or they are misdiagnosing a lot of pets. I felt in my gut that Old Marple was not a good place to take Gigi to. They were all about the money not the health of a cat or any pet at all. I should have taken her to Metropolitan Animal Hospital in Conshocken. I figured Old Marple was closer and I was so worried. Stay away from this Hospital if you want your pet diagnosed correctly and treated properly. I have read so many reviews about this hospital misdiagnosing pets, given un-necessary medication, surgery's and being price gauged for everything. Yes emergency hospital care is higher then normal Veterinary Hospital I expected that but, paying over $400 for another Doctor to READ Gigi's X-ray's thats a little extreme. Yelp has a wealth of information about Old Marple Hospital and how bad this hospital really is. They also erased 8 reviews. I'm sure this review I'm posting now will be taken down. I want to warn others save your pet, give yourself peace of mind and don't bring you cat or dog to VCA Old Marple. To Old Marple Please don't give me that repetitive " I'm sorry this happened please email blah blah blah " This hospital doesn't care about animals, only care about the money they can squeeze out of people while your stuck waiting in the parking lot for your pet. read more

Three nights ago my German Shepherd was clearly in distress. I called this place and described her symptoms. I was expecting "bring her right over" instead what I got was "we're not taking new patients". "Aren't you an animal hospital??" "Yes but we're only taking patients on a case-by-case basis" WTF?? This place gets one star because at the very least they recommended I call Keystone Veterinary Emergency (I'll be posting a 5 star review after this) When I called Keystone and described the exact same symptoms they said "get her here immediately". This place is inconsistent at best. They've been given way too many chances. I'd like to preface this by saying that I am quite compassionate to people in vet medicine- it is a difficult field to be in, and I give them a lot of grace-- but please do not go here, especially if you have a cat. They are absolutely money hungry here, pushing treatments that weren't needed on many occasions. (The pricing and professionalism were all over the place as well, and they wrote incorrect information on multiple occasion's in my pet's records so either they don't listen well, or they are sketchy). The idea is that you pay more to get better care, and this was not the case at VCA Old Marple...time and time again. I have endured nasty behavior from the staff and have heard staff gossiping and talking s*** about other clients. Took my dog for emergency stitches after a grooming accident. They took great care of my pup and were easy to speak with. They followed up nicely and the vet tech I saw was so sweet and gentleman working the phones was so kind when I was obviously upset. I would give 5 stars but I was given pricing with no alternatives and I think that should always be an option without asking. We worked it out and my pet got the best care! read more

They will price gouge you of course bc they know they have you by the you know what, desk people clueless, vets seem lobotomized and disconnected, not engaging, it's an errie and bad place. I only put a star here so it would be a recommended post and it would be seen. AND they used to give you a print out of what they wanted you to do post care but not anymore. So now I have to call and have them remind me what they want me to do. When you are in the room with the vet or vet tech and they tell you what they want you to do, if you are like me, your mind is focused on the animal and not really absorbing anything. Vca was great with my cat who has been very sick. I took my cat in recently and saw vet Doctor abbey Earle. She was so good with my cat and provided such great care for him. Her tech was a small blond young lady and she was also helpful and was very patient with me when she went over the medications with me before leaving the hospital. Strongly recommend against bringing your pet here unless it needs emergency treatment. They are always trying to upsell treatment and medicine, and have many unreasonable fees that are non-optional. There are several vets working here and the skill and experience vary greatly. They twice misdiagnosed cats that I took elsewhere for successful treatment. After the second time I stopped coming here. I will say that the facility is nice. All the unnecessary charges have provided for a roomy waiting room and the ability to segregate dogs from other pets. They have lots of hours as well. If you have an emergency and they are close, this is probably the place. But if you are just getting periodic care, you'll spend way more than you have to here. read more

Where do I begin? I've been taking my dog here since we've got her 4 yrs ago. Never usually a problem, except they are a bit expense even with the care club. I recently scheduled my dog for her annual shots. I was told my care club hasn't been paid and to pay the amount owed and it would be taken care of.... Not so! I called care club and was told I haven't paid since May! I owed almost $300 and I'm in collections! COLLECTIONS!! Mind you, she hasn't been there for anything since January! So what am I in collections for? Why not just cancel my insurance?? I begrudgingly paid the $300 dollars only to find out that I am not reinstated that I " have to talk to a manager to get approved to get back in the program ". I'm sorry, what?! Meanwhile my dog is due for her shots and I would need to pay out of pocket... almost $400!!! For shots!! Seriously??? I just about lost it. I canceled my appointment and a scheduled elsewhere. Called ahead to see if they would take my dog. They said yes. I show up on time, called to let them know I arrived and was asked to wait. I waited AN HOUR AND A HALF - and called back to see how long the wait was going to be. The receptionist didn't know why I was waiting that long and went to "check back in the ER". She called me back 5 minutes later and told me that Dr. was in an emergency surgery and TURNED ME AWAY (AFTER WAITING 1.5 HOURS!!!) So disappointing. Ruthless Greed PRO's - I never questioned the competency of any of their vets. They are all very knowledgable. I'd trust them to work on my pet. If you have gobs of money, and can afford to buy Old Marple's high-priced compassion for your pets, then your pet is probably in great hands. CONS - This place is strictly in it for the money. As many others have mentioned, their prices are astronomical. Unfortunately, because they are the only 24/7 emergency animal hospital in the area, they can rob you blind because they know they have you by the dog hairs. I took my dog there last night around midnight. She was having difficulty breathing, was coughing, and was in pain when she'd lay down. All I could afford was a 15-minute physical exam and was sent home with 2 bottles of pills for her. That ran me close to $250 alone. Because I couldn't afford the nearly $600 in diagnostic tests that the vet recommended to get to the root of the problem (on top of the $250 I already spent), I left Old Marple with dog as sick as when she went in and a wallet that was $250 lighter. Tonight my dog is still suffering in pain. Now she's not even eating. Old Marple doesn't care. I practically begged them to do the diagnostic tests and treat Nikki, with the promise that I would pay them in full in 2 weeks (with interest) - "We don't have a payment plan." Can't pay. Dog dies. Old Marple Vet Hospital's compassion for animals only extends to people with deep wallets. UPDATE - Yesterday, a day and a half after the Old Marple emergency visit mentioned above, - my dog actually did die, gasping for breath, in pain and suffering. MY COMMENT ON OLD MARPLES RESPONSE TO THIS: Check out Old Marple's response to this review. Nowhere in their response is a: "I'm sorry for the loss of your pet." Nowhere. Again, proving my point. I have decided to post this review about my veterinary hospital of over twenty years. I recently brought my new puppy there to be spayed. I was initially dissatisfied with the lack of communication about her recovery process. I was told different things by two different employees I spoke with. I felt as if my questions and concerns were not being heard and I was being "yessed".  I was also informed that her nails had been cut after the spay. I was confused because they had just been done two days prior.  Dr. E. expressed that cutting her nails was difficult because they were black. At no point was there any mention that she had been hurt.    When I picked up Sky I was shocked to see her condition. Her paws were completely covered with crusty dry blood and her nails had been cut way below the quicks. Her paws had also been covered with white powder in what I imagine was a crude attempt to lessen the bleeding. It was horrifying to look at and no doubt caused her immeasurable pain.   Whoever cut her nails clearly could not see straight.   I immediately contacted the office where I was told by Jamie R. (manager) that it was complimentary and standard procedure. They refused to tell me who had cut her nails and said that they did not know. I sincerely doubt that this would not have been documented. I found this to be very disturbing as whoever cut them is in severe need of proper training on technique. They had no right to administer this additional and unrequested service. Furthermore, they have no right to not document who is handling the animals. The fact is that they do know and have chosen not to provide me with the information to me a paying customer.    Jaime R. (manager) felt the need to change their whole protocal after this incident protecting them against their next incident.   The fact is that they should notify any customer of "any" additional procedures whether they are complimentary or not and notated. During the follow up appointment, Dr. E. who performed the surgery clearly told me that she had no idea who cut my pup's nails.  I find that hard to believe since it was her following up call after the procedure notifying me that her nails were cut.  All lies!! After conveying my displeasure to the staff I was offered a credit of $50. As of today 3/23/2017, this has still not been processed.   What an insult after being a loyal customer of 20 years, 3 dogs and spending well over 30K in procedures.  Meanwhile, the procedure itself only cost $400.00. In closing, I will "never" be returning and wanted other pet owners to know about the apparent standard of care offered by VCA Old Marple.  This has nothing to do with the money but how I was handled and insulted by management. read more

Hospital has gone down hill over the last few years. Many services need to referred out. Way too much money for service that is subpar.

VCA saved this beauty's life a few weeks ago. My cat had gotten his lower jaw stuck between his collar and his neck. When I found him, he was unconscious, his mouth was purple and his eyes were wide open. I thought he died. When he started responding after I removed the collar, I called around to several pet hospitals, but they were either at capacity, or they didn't take emergencies. With a google search I found VCA and they told me to bring him in. When they took him from me, he was in bad shape but conscious, and struggling to breath. Apparently you get fluid in your lungs when you're without oxygen for a few minutes. They kept him overnight and called me a few times in his 20 hours there. They said it could go either way, they really weren't even sure he would make it through the night. So they checked on him every two hours, gave him fluids, and had him in a cage with oxygen. I didn't sleep well, thinking that even if he made it through the night, I'd still have to make a tough decision the next day if he was suffering. They happily called me in the morning to say he responded very well to the oxygen and that he was purring and loving all the attention from the staff. They told me to come get him, less than 24 hours after I dropped him off. The staff was kind and caring and kept in touch with me even after I picked him up. I would trust them with any pet situation and now I know just where to go in any pet emergency. They've earned a customer for life! read more

The best part of this hospital is the accessibility to the area. But once your pet is taken in we literally waited for over 1hour for a minor dog bruise. In the end antibiotic spray and off you go. This place is super amazing . They save our Bailey girl . She was struggling with labor for days . We took her here and they did an ultrasound showing the puppies heart rate was dropping low . They gave us options and we chose to do an emergency c section . Bailey had a twisted uterus and a mummified pup in her along with another puppy was getting pretty big . Well almost 2 weeks ago and mama and baby boy are doing great ! Not to mention they kept us in the loop the entire time and we were even able to bring our snuggle bugs home that night . read more

I just visited Old Marple for some routine shots for our two Miniature Schnauzers. It was a typical great experience. Other reviewers have commented on the difficulty of obtaining an appointment. I called on Tuesday for a Friday appointment and had no problems with a selection of times available. Showed up a few minutes early for a 2:15 appointment. We were taken in 4 minutes early by a very pleasant young man. Our Schnauzers needed two shots each. Other reviewers have commented on the high $$ here. Four shots cost me a total of $88. To me that's a very reasonable cost. I'm very stingy with 5 stars but for me Old Marple has been a consistent 4 star experience. read more
