Delicious! We had the beef tibs and veggie combo, which is way too much for 2 people, but leftovers is the gift that keeps on giving. Beef had excellent grilled taste and was relatively tender for tibs. Came with a yummy bowl of red sauce to put on it, which I've never had before. Collard greens have less garlic than other places. Spicy lentils have a different flavor than most places but it was good. Green beans were bomb. Nice atmosphere and excellent service. Prices comparable to others in the area. I will absolutely go with Great on this place, no doubt in my injera-soaked mind. On my personal list of great dining experiences, Ethiopian restaurants hold a unique place. Similar to just a handful of other ethnic meals (El Salvadoran, authentic Mexican tacos, Turkish), I wish for and anticipate eating in an unpolished establishment or, at the least, being served by someone related to the owner. I'm not positive that the lovely woman who waited on us on a Sunday night was the owner -- I never asked -- but I'm confident she was. And while the smooth jazz soundtrack did add an air of sophistication to the venue, in the end, Ethiopian dining is as carnal as it gets, the ripping of the spongy bread, scooping, stuffing your cheeks. I absolutely love this food, and Kezira does it right. The amber African lager was a nice touch, too. We landed the Special Combo, it was like $20, and two of us couldn't finish it. The veggies were the best angle to the dish, they were obviously fresh and the spices these guys have in their cabinet, they're definitely not in mine. Unfortunately we never had the chance to try out their coffee nor their food. We came in during one of the weekends to try out Ethiopian coffee ceremony at noon. Our other group of friend came in as well but since the coffee ceremony can only fit 5 at a time, they decided to order lunch. So begin our journey of the long wait. Granted that it's a mom and pop place and granted that as a business owner I would probably want to take meal order over coffee. When it comes down to it, they should have been more up front about the wait time. Each time we ask, the owner kept saying it would be couple more minutes. We started this at noon and by 1:15 pm we decided the couple of minutes is really like never and that we should leave to get lunch. Kezira Cafe has the very best Ethiopian food in the city! I just moved to Beacon Hill about a year ago. So, I was looking for an Ethiopian restaurant in my area. I had my regular place on Capital Hill. But now, after dining at Kezira Cafe, it's my new favorite. It's especially my sons favorite. It's always his first request when given the option to eat out. It's nice that it is located across the street from Full Tilt. So, if we want, we can make a night of it with pinball and ice cream for dessert. Stumbled upon this place on Yelp when we felt like Ethiopian food. There were a few notable places in the area, but these reviews made it seem to most appealing. Veggie platter, what we traditionally order, could easily serve 2. Injera seemed especially doughy--not under-cooked, just a different taste and texture than we're used to. Skipped the dora wat this time in favor of another chicken dish that was heavy on the spinach and not too distinct from the taste of the other veg options. No samosas, or at least we didn't see them offered on the menu. The sole server is hard-pressed to make the rounds when the place is filled. Expect a leisurely meal and plan accordingly. Parking, on the other hand, is a mess. Hard to park in the lot across the street and cross our fingers that we would not get towed. Strange array of one-way streets by the restaurant make a tight situation even more confusing. Very easy to get parked in, so hope for street parking in the neighborhood. When we moved here from the DC/Baltimore area, my husband and I were already sincere lovers of Ethiopian food. On many of our special date nights, we chose Ethiopian cuisine as our treat. Upon moving to WA, Kezira Cafe became our new favorite Ethiopian restaurant. The food has been consistent and delicious. The injera tastes fresh and just tangy enough. And most delightfully of all, the service has always been filled with warmth and kindness. We now have 2 small boys and restaurants are an adventure (when we are brave enough to try, which is rare). Our 3-year-old son is also autistic and eating out can be difficult for him sometimes, but we very much want him to experience the rich, beautiful community around him. Today we had the most challenging experience eating out that we have had thus far as parents. But our hostess at Kezira went far above and beyond to make our family and our accompanying friends feel happy and welcome. Thank you! From the depths of my heart, thank you. This is by far my favorite restaurant in Columbia City. The food is incredible, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the service is great. The 5-star visits: I'd like to start out by saying this is my FAVORITE Ethiopian restaurant in Columbia City area and overall on top 3 restaurants all over Seattle. I love the atmosphere, the people, the decoration and mostly the food, especially the Derek Tibs. It's a family business so I even appreciate great service and great food even more. Not until yesterday , a very mediocre visit that left me, my family and my visiting relatives a extremely bad experience and never again will I never visit this restaurant. It was my mom's birthday yesterday so naturally I suggested places that I think is 5-star and this place came to mind. We arrive late Sunday evening around 8, and there was 2 tables occupied and a big family leaving, so we felt pretty lucky that we'd have that big table and great food to celebrate. I let the host (whom I haven't seen before) know that it'll be party of 8 and he said he could get us the big table as soon as the other big group wrapped it up. We didn't wait too long till we were seated. From there it went downhill. We waited a while to get water on the table, and another 10 minutes or so to be able to order. At the time, there was another big-ish group (I believe 6 or so) coming in and got seated. That's fine, I thought, and even felt bad for the kitchen being so busy. IT TOOK probably good 25 minutes to get my glass of wine, and CLOSE TO AN HOUR TO GET FOOD. During that agony hour, NEVER ONCE DID THE HOST / WAITOR / ANYONE approached us to let us know it would be that long of a wait, to ask if we're okay with waiting, and if we need water refilled. Everyone was starving, and when I grabbed the man who seated us originally, he told us HE SAW THE FOOD READY and ran to the kitchen. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT IT WAS ALSO A LIE, because it took another good 10-15 minutes for me to STAND UP, and ran to the other site of the bar to confront him and expressed that this is beyond ridiculous and rude. He told me that the kitchen was backed up, and USUALLY if we have a big group, we should have called first ahead. In my head I'm thinking "Ok, so you think it's okay to let a dropped in group of customers waiting without explaining so to start with when we arrived, and think that it's OKAY TO WASTE our time without giving us an option to decide whether or not we can stay?" Then he ran to the kitchen again and "miraculously" the food came out. I came back to my sit and felt angrier than ever. I explained the very same thing to the chef (who also was the lovely waitress who always served my partner and I every time we came in the past) this bullshit, and she apologized many times, and explained that the bread was out and she was running around many places to sort that out, and also reminded me again about the "call ahead" thing. OKAY, I WORKED IN RESTAURANT AND FOOD SERVICE FOR MANY YEARS, so I understand this more than anyone. Things got hectic, things happened, and that's ok. But you know what's NOT okay? No explanation, no frequent check up, no regards for anyone's time. They brought out 2 slides of cake for my mom's birthday and I'm appreciative, but needless say, we'll spend our time and money elsewhere . Never again! read more

I do love this place! The lady runs this place is so awesome, classy and sweet. A true "queen" her decor is lovely and I enjoy the fish stew and vegetable combo usually. Vege combo wasn't as diverse as other Ethiopian places I have been to, but I do love the atmosphere! A place to go back to again and again. Great place for a date too. I ordered food from them through a delivery service and I was delighted with the food although not the styrofoam container. Seriously though, the food was amazing! I had the shorba habeshiya (barley soup) and the vegetarian combo. Everything was seasoned very well with the exception of the greens which was pretty bland. As a vegan, I have limited options for late night delivery service food, but tonight, I ended up with a warm, full belly of deliciousness. We came here with a biggish group (about 10 people) for our monthly dining group outing. The location has no parking lot, so you will have to find street parking. The interior is quite nice. Cool artwork on the walls, a small private room, neat looking bar, lots of seating, and overall just some cool touches. The food was okay. I had the beef tibs and I found the beef kind of chewy and tough. Decent sized portions and all the injera you could want, so you would have a really hard time walking away from here still hungry. I tasted some of the other dishes on other people's combo plates and everything seemed like solid Ethiopian eats. Nothing really stood out as phenomenal or as bad...though I did notice the lack of boiled egg on the meat combo plate. Doesn't it usually come with an egg? They have African beers that were fun to try. The customer service...eh...not good. We had called ahead and said we were bringing around ten, so I'm not sure why they seemed to be so unprepared for us. Our server was certainly sweet enough, but I think she was overwhelmed. Getting water and drinks was more difficult than one would imagine. The food came out just willy-nilly, with no timing so that everybody could eat at around the same time. I didn't get my food until almost everybody else was practically done eating, and later than the person who ordered fifteen minutes after me. One diner was very specific about needing gluten-free injera and they initially brought out regular injera. Had she not recognized the lack of purple color, she might have been in trouble. I think if we had been a table of two or three, the customer service would have been fine; but large groups are maybe not their thing. Everything just took much longer and seemed way more complicated than it should have, particularly considering we were the only customers they had for most of the night. They did let us do separate checks, so that was really nice of them. I dunno, there are so many places for Ethiopian in the area, I don't know that there was anything compelling enough to make me choose this place over another. read more

I am Habesha. And this is the first worst experience I had in life. Worst customer service. And the foods were not cooked appropriately. We got wrong orders. Even the food what we got was not what we want and even didn't eat it but they make us to pay. In the beginning they made Us move different tables to find the right size since they couldn't figure out for our groups. The last and worst one was, while we were waiting our rides outside, the waiter called police to kick us away. I am very frustrated and shameful when I write this .
