It's a KFC. You either like it occasionally or hate it for a hipster reason. The service will depend on the particular person that you interact with. Being that I haven't been to another KFC in a year or two, I can't say if the issues I have with this one are corporate strategy or a decision made by this franchise. First of all, and the only reason I am even writing this review, this KFC does not sell Extra Crispy bone-in chicken. That's ridiculous. If we want to go a bit more in-depth, for no real reason, since any review should just say KFC and be done; the menu layout is garbage. It's probably the by-product of millions of dollars of consumer research that looked for a menu that sold more food. But really what it is, is unreadable if you're trying to find anything that isn't the high profit eye drawing combo that they're trying to push. I repeatedly make the mistake of returning to this KFC hoping it will magically improve - perhaps I'm a bit too optimistic. This store is hands down awful. It's disgustingly dirty to begin. The food is usually off or poorly made. Finally, and this is the biggest problem, the employees- they're awful. However I can't entirely fault them since this is a reflection of mismanagement of this store. Staff consistently doesn't read the order. If you don't want corn in your Famous Bowl, then expect there to be corn. Request white meat and you'll like get dark meat. They're colorblind. Order an extra biscuit and no biscuit for you! Sauces for your nuggets or tenders- what sauce? If you dare ask them to correct a problem and you'll get a blank stare. What could be wrong? Even worse it'll be a fight to get it corrected and you'll never get an apology. Beware I get the feeling that they'll spit in your food if you push it. My advice is be smarter than me. Go elsewhere! I'm in line with 8 other people. Only the drive-thru is getting waited on. 15 minutes later and no-one is getting their orders taken here inside the restaurant. No one has acknowledged our presence. Two of the people that were here waiting, went through the drive-thru, got their food and came inside here to eat. The rest of us are still waiting to have our orders taken. I waved my hands after 22 minutes and asked if we are invisible. I was told there are only 2 of them here working. 30 minutes and I'm still waiting on my 'fast food'. This is more of a review for the chicken sandwich rather than the restaurant itself. I've been getting chicken sandwiches from Popeyes, and they're pretty good. But I thought I would try the one at KFC. Now, it's been years since I ate at KFC. Like I mean probably a couple of decades. I think the last time I ate at KFC they had just introduced pot pies. So it was probably 1998 or so. I went through the drive-through and ordered a chicken sandwich. The order taker was very polite and he asked me if I wanted regular or spicy. I got one of each, because I was also buying one for a friend. The one for me was the spicy one. I had a pretty pleasant ordering experience so they get one star for that. I got home and opened my sandwich, and I guess the person who put the spicy sauce on it decided that it needed to be drenched in sauce. There was so much sauce on it that I literally had to wipe it off with a napkin on both the top and the bottom bun. It was ridiculous how much sauce there was. There was so much that it had oozed off the sandwich and into the packaging as well. There was still a ton of sauce after that. I went through seven napkins for that one sandwich. That is insane. Based on this experience, it is not likely that I would go back. I might be willing to try it one more time in case they were having an off night. But the sandwiches at Popeyes are so good, and I like their pickles better than KFC's. read more

I went to the KFC on east Riverside Dr. around 7:30 pm Wednesday,evening February 8, 2023. There were no cars in the parking lot or in the drive-thru which I took as a bad sign but brushed it off. I ordered a one 3-piece with 2 sides and one 3-piece with one side. I asked if they had fruit punch, they said yes, so I ordered a pepsi and fruit punch. It cost $22 and change. As I was handed my order, I noticed both drinks were dark. I told the person one of the drinks is wrong. He said I ordered a pepsi and a Dr. Pepper. I said no, I even asked you if you had fruit punch. He then gave me a fruit punch. I tasted the pepsi to make sure it was right and could tell that it was a diet pepsi so I asked to have that corrected. Then I pulled up and checked my food. The chicken was really dark and I thought it must be spicy or burnt - I don't remember it looking like that. So I tasted a little bit of the skin and OMG, it was soooooo salty, I couldn't believe they actually got it like that. I went back to the window, showed him one piece of chicken and asked if that was "original" and they said yes. So I told him it was extremely salty. Some black guy came to the window, extremely annoyed and asked if I wanted my money back and I said yes. He said I was the only person complaining that the chicken was salty. I said that people probably don't taste their food before driving off. He said the people that ate in the restaurant didn't complain, mind you, there was NO ONE in the restaurant or in the drive-thru when I pulled up. I told him he should taste it. He said he didn't have to taste it, he knows what KFC tastes like. I said I do too, that's why I came but someone made a mistake on this. I continued to say just taste it, just taste a little of the skin, all the workers looked around at each other and no one wanted to taste it. I told the guy that that is not a good sign that NO ONE working there will taste the food. He then gave me back my money, $21 and change. I said no, I paid $22 and change, he said you ordered a #8 and a #3, that's $21. I was looking for the receipt but told him I know I paid over $22 because I HAD a twenty and a one dollar bill but no change so I paid with two twenties. He shut the window just as just as I found my receipt and it said I paid $22.63!!! I waved it at him then he opened the window and looked at the receipt then gave me another dollar and some change. we were traveling and had Grubhub deliver from KFC. The food arrived quickly and the delivery was great. My husbands chicken was burnt....like it had been recooked. My famous bowl chicken nuggets were the same way. The food tasted as bad as it looked. If we weren't so tired from driving all day we would have taken it back! I would like to say that service at the 2224 E Riverside Dr location in Austin TX is absolutely despicable. Employees there handle food very poorly and often times with no protective gloves on both hands. I always seem to receive some type of attitude when ever i ask for additional items or condiments. Most of all this particular branch of KFC has an extended history of providing poor service. I think that this review site is enough evidence to prove and verify that as being a fact. I will list a few of the many encountered issues below. 1) The frustration of being ignored or strangely stared at longer than usual as a customer. That is prior to any type of service provided. 2) A very messy order with extra liquid of some sort poured all over a side item (Photos Attached). 3) This restaurant has a extended history of providing poor service 4) Obviously employees there have no regard for certain customers & lack integrity 5) Please also view the photos taken of my order while in the restaurant. This was shortly after receiving the disgusting order. I am not sure why this would be served to any customer or even a dog. The disgusting mess is clearly visible and i wonder why it was not corrected if indeed a mistake. I mean before serving this to a customer after payment has been made. Overall cleanliness was not great. It was hard to find a clean table. The staff was friendly. I ordered a pot pie and they said it would be a 20 minute wait, so I had to change my order on the fly.....after I had already paid and sat down. A friend and I were talking about fast food places we hadn't eaten at for a long time. We both thought, fried chicken, especially KFC. With all the news about the double down, I couldn't escape the notion of KFC from my mind. The one problem was that I couldn't think of where there is a KFC in Austin. My buddy said that is because KFC only build in crappy parts of cities, so I must not drive in those areas much. I of course called him a racist and we laughed it off. Finally I got on KFC's website to look up locations... and they are all located in low income parts of town. Wow KFC, wow. Anyway. The double down was an adventure, one I would never try again. It tasted like I was eating greasy chicken flavored salt mush. My eyes were blurry for about 15 minutes after it. Is the idea genius? Yes. Is all the reports about how bad it is for you a great publicity stunt? Yes. Was it fun to show off in the office and see peoples reactions? Yes. Was it tasty and a new weekly habit? Not even close. I remember when KFC was the best chicken -- it sure isn't now. At least not in Austin. The extra crispy chicken was dry, cold and tasteless. So bad I gave it to some students. The biscuits were also cold and dry with a "honey sauce" loaded with corn syrup. I remember the days when you got REAL potatoes and honey. Ah, those were the days for sure and are well over. The coleslaw was decent and the only thing worth keeping. They offered a free cake which I have not tried yet but it looks like a nice little bundt cake, I asked for a large gravy in lieu of potatoes and got 1/2 the size -- skimpy! The potpie was all crust -- hardly any substance. Deceiving because it is quite large. KFC you should be ashamed of yourself and I am sure the Colonel is rolling around in his grave at what his beloved chicken store has become. Never again in Austin. Oh yikes. I'm about to yelp about a KFC. I was having a craving for fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. All deliciously horrible things for you....So I headed out to the KFC... Let's just say, to sum up, I received overdone and dry chicken. They forgot the dipping sauces (thus couldn't mask the dryness), even though they were requested twice. Also forgotten was a side order of mac & cheese. To top off the experience, a flat Pepsi. We didn't get a receipt, but if we had, we would have gone back to say something/pick up the missing food we were charged for. However, we were halfway home, and for some reason, I feel responsible for not checking the bag. Serves me right for thinking KFC would have competent workers. This incident took place at 10:54pm on Sunday February 6th. Whilst out driving around in search of food which, Texas never seems to have around this hour..I saw cars in the drive-thru at KFC so I went to place an order at drive-thru. Mind you, it's 10:54. So I'm assuming they close at 11pm. So I go to order and a young man comes on the headset saying "sorry we're closed" ummmm...no, you're not. He then proceeds to tell me "ma'am we closed the kitchen down already everything is broken down." Which is, completely unacceptable since, you don't close at 10:56pm. As far as I'm concerned, no where on the planet closes at 10:56pm. I let him know that I've worked in the Food service industry for 10+ years and that they should know better than to start closing the kitchen before closing time. At least leave some supplies out and leave The grill on. So then miss "Victoria" if that's even her name..who claims to be the manager tells me to leave and never come back. And whoever was on the headset, a male.. told me to "GET THE FUCK OUT THE DRIVE-THRU BITCH" who hired these animals? There are homeless people who could do a better job I'm positive. Clearly the employee standards at KFC are none at all. The bar is on the ground. Fire everyone. They do not take pride in their jobs, nor do they belong in a customer service oriented job with the lack of respect, common courtesy, decency, and piss poor work ethic.
