I did a lot of research on artificial turf companies servicing the Brushy Creek area and after some shopping around, came across Umesh and KG Lawn Care. After receiving some ridiculous quotes from some of the "bigger" artificial turf companies, offering a lower grade of turf for a substantially higher price, I went forward with the project with Umesh and KG Lawn Care. As we neared the date of my family's party, Umesh assured me that he would push to make the deadline, even with unpredictable central Texas weather. Umesh not only kept to his promise in finishing the project in time for our party, but also knocked it out of the park! The artificial turf looks incredible and instantly became my daughter's favorite place to play. Umesh and his crew put a level of detail into the project in ensuring every aspect was perfect for my family. As pleased as I am with the project itself, the most noteworthy aspect I want to highlight in this review is how Umesh does business. In a world where so many are looking to cut corners, charge more, and provide less, I found that Umesh is a man of immense integrity who keeps to his word. Umesh delivered on his promise to ensure my yard was immaculate for my family's party, but most notably, his promise on pricing. A day before our turf was set to be installed, Umesh was notified by the turf company that the turf we picked out was no longer available (with zero warning). Umesh was forced to upgrade the turf at a difference of nearly $800. I offered to split the difference with Umesh but was told: "Nah man, it's all good. I like to keep my word and pricing. It's not your fault." This really struck me that Umesh was willing to eat $800 in order to keep his word with me on pricing. We met in late May and agreed on a price. He claimed he would use a sod cutter to remove 2 inches of old sod and soil before rototilling and adding blend of topsoil and leveling the lawn grade. He would then lay down the sod, water and roll the sod. He was also installing 3 drip lines under the sod in the front strip or grass. He charged me to raise all my sprinklers and promised to test, flush and replace the sprinkler heads to assure it was working well. He skipped most of the steps. He had some guys use a pick and shovel to remove an inch of sod and soil. They never tilled the soil and only spread about an inch of topsoil over hard clay and rock before setting the sod on top. They did not roll it or leveling it. There are high and low spots throughout. They only raised 2 sprinkles and changed two heads. Two pallets worth of sod were clearly dead by July 15th despite me watering 3x a day and hand watering the front strip of grass for 4 hours a day that relied on drip lines they installed. He complained that the sod company was not warranting the sod. They sent him a message pointing out that due to the high heat, soil prep and consistent watering required they could not take responsibility. They clearly worked with him before. The prep and install was horrible. I saw him when he gave me a quote and 3 days after the install when I demanded we walk the job because the grass was dying and he missed about 8 feet on the side of my house. He had only reached out for the rest of the money. When we walked it, he had a worker pull all the weeds from the strip along my fence and nothing else. I paid him for sod and drip lines all along the side of my house. He blamed his workers and stated all they do is drink and lie. They tell him they know how to do the work but rarely do. He then assured me that he would replace the grass that was dying next week. He did not. He always had an excuse. Every week it was pushed out to the following week. I shouldn't have paid him until he finished the job he took 6 weeks to replace some of the dead grass. If a piece of sod had 25% of it with green grass they left it. He patched my lawn on Aug 19th. It was 99 degrees and has been over 100 everyday since. Now I'm back out there 3-4 hours a day hand watering because he couldn't do the job correctly and on time. This job should have been done June 15th. Don't trust this guy. My neighbor had it done correctly and within 3 weeks you couldn't tell it was new. Mine is over 2 months old and covered in dead sod spots and new sod pieces. His response states that his crew removed 2 inches of old sod over all 3,000 sqft and that he charged $4,000 for the job. He lied about the cost. It was $4,600 to remove old sod, prep the soil, level the grade, raise all the sprinkler head and replace the drip system. He gave me a $600 credit because I had already removed 1,000 sqft of sod from the outer strip. He exaggerates pricing to make it seem like he made no money but even if his pricing was legit, which it is not, it doesn't change the fact that his terrible prep led to 2/7 the sod dying. And now, 11 weeks after the lawn was promised, I'm hand watering a lumpy lawn covered in dead sod and new sod patches. 7 x $220 =$1540 current price. It was as on sale 2 months ago. Please do not give any deposits to Umesh, Once you give deposit he will start the work but will disappear after. We started the project and gave him significant 50% down payment. He has hardly finished 25% of our work. I would definatly stay away from him. Beware do not give him any depoists before the work is completed. I forgot to add that we had an offical contract signed by both parites agreeing on the payment schedule for 50% down before the start of the work and 50% at completion and mutally agreed contract pricing and terms. How can you trust someone to give more money if they are not truthfull to the agreed terms? ****Update*** After posting this review earlier today Umesh called me a couple hours later and we discussed everything that I was unhappy with and he agreed to pay the cost for having the irrigation work completed by another company. It has been paid in by him and I will not pursue the issue any further. We signed a contract with Umesh at KG LawnCare last December to do some landscape updates to our backyard after a pool install. The work did not begin until February of this year and that was the start of several lies that Umesh would tell us as the project slowly went along. He definitely tells people what they want to hear but does not follow through on what he says and once you have paid him in full, you will never see him again. During the project, which took much longer than he had promised, with multiple things started and nothing finished, he asked for more money and I declined to do so until more work had been completed and thankfully I did. Fast forward to March 21st when I handed him a check for over $10,000 for the final payment he told me he would be returning in a week to make adjustments to our irrigation system and if we had any new sod that did not take, he would replace it. Needless to say he never did any of that. I have tried calling him and he will not take a call, he says he can only text so I text and send pictures of all the dead sod and point out the multiple irrigation issues we have and ask him to return and fix it as he promised. During the text conversation, after he made multiple excuses for not doing what he said he would do all along, I called him out on the lies said I would hire someone else and send him the bill. He offered to reimburse me to have another company come fix the issues so I hired someone else. I sent him the total amount due with a copy of the invoice last week and he said he would send me the money by yesterday, another lie. Today is May 27th and he has never returned to look at or fix anything like he said he would and he has not reimbursed me for the expense of hiring someone else to fix his mistakes like he said. We've been using Umesh for lawn care since before the Pandemic. He's attentive, and gets the job done. My wife and I are probably the worst customers imaginable, with often very vague ideas of what we want, but he's good at getting a vision out of us, and the quality of work is fine. With the Trump/ICE racist horseshit, it's getting harder to find labor, but he's able to deliver. When there are delays, he communicates. Sometimes, with our stupid Texas climate, there can be seasonal issues when it comes to the appropriate time for planting, but he clearly communicates and schedules us up. The dogs would track mud into the house, and honestly, probably poop too because animals are gross (I still love them). KG Lawn Care sloped our yard for better run off and added rocks to the areas where the water would collect and where it was too shady for grass to grow.
