Let's be honest, getting artwork -- or anything, for that matter -- framed is not an inexpensive endeavor, especially if you want it done correctly. And I do. I went to KH Art & Framing with a Groupon deal to get a license plate I had on my car framed. They did a great job so I went back again. And again.. And again. In fact, one time I went to get something framed (the cover of a magazine I used to edit) and didn't have a Groupon. They gave me the discount anyway!! Most recently I went in to have a pretty expensive litho on canvas framed. Not only did they let me use my expired Groupon to get the discount, when I went to pick it up, the technician pointed out to me some uneveness of the color in the frame and said they would od it over at no cost. He pointed it out to me. He was not happy with it. Frankly, with customer service like this, I will go back again. And again. Have nothing but great things to say about KH Art and Framing! The quality of their work and their customer service is unsurpassed. My husband and I had over 20 pieces of art that had been damaged during a move from overseas back to Washington. The team at KH spent countless hours restoring each piece with great attention to detail. There was fungus on many of the pieces of art. Most other places would not have taken this tough job on. Not only did they handle it, but it was so perfectly done no one can tell they were so severely damaged. KH also reframed each piece of art in museum quality glass. Kenny spent a lot of time thinking through the style of framing for each particular piece with us. We are thrilled with the results. I wouldn't trust our art with anyone else. For the amount of work we had done, their prices were very fair. Kenny worked with us to make sure we could get it done within budget. I am so pleased and beyond grateful to this company. I have had a couple of things framed here and they are very helpful and knowledgeable. I have been lured into other frame shops with coupons, but resisted every bone in my cheap body to spend the extra amount to go to true professionals. They spent nearly an hour with me figuring out the right color options. And despite my worries, these guys gave me a very competitive price! But what really warrants this 5 star rating is that after I changed my mind about the color of the mat, they re-matted my painting for free. I've been to the Glebe and 29 store a few times over various years and have always found it terrible for customer service. However, the location on Leesburg Pike in Falls Church 5 stars!!!! Gustavo is amazing and the complete opposite of the Arlington store - he engages and is helpful, problem solves, knows art, passionate, and truly goes over and above to provide a customer oriented atmosphere. AND he does a great job at framing! About the Arlington store...I came in seeking to redeem a certificate special and repair the framing of a large pop art piece. They could not have been less helpful with brainstorming a solution -- suggesting tape, paper, etc. The store was empty of other clients and they spent a total of 3mins "helping" me. I've been fortunate to have been to a lot of framing and art shops in this area and internationally, and have never seen a place so unwelcoming of business. Conversely, the Falls Church location makes you want to come back again and again. read more

Over the years I have had to have SO MANY things framed (everything from restaurant reviews to photos). This is ALWAYS where I go. The owner is knowledgeable and patient. I am anal and annoying. It works well. Not only does he have a HUGE selection of frames to choose from, but also has an equally impressive array of mat board colors. The price is always right on target - not higher or lower than other places I've been. The framing job is always PERFECT. And they always get the project(s) done in a timely manner. Brought in 2 items to be framed today, and have to say, I won't ever be back. Not only because of the pricing issues as other people have mentioned, but because the owner (manager?) was incredibly rude to me with no cause. The guy who was working with me said "It's normally $221 for each, but I'll do both for $175". I still thought $175 was expensive, but I thought, great at least he's trying to work with me. At no point did I ask for this discount, he just offered it. Then when it came to paying, I said I would pay in advance and that I had a Groupon (nowhere on the Groupon does it say you need to tell them this at the beginning). Then he backtracked and said he'd have to charge me the full price for 1 in order to use the Groupon. This felt like a bait and switch to me and I said as much to the manager/owner. At no point did I raise my voice, use bad words, or even get angry, I just said I felt like I was being taken advantage of. The manager/owner just got nasty with me and told me that if that's what I thought I could pay full price for both. Yes, that's the way to get customers... at least at KH Art. Even though I had a bad taste in my mouth from the pricing alone, I probably would have gone through with the Groupon bait and switch, but once the owner (manager?) got nasty, I didn't want to give them a cent. I don't care how good your product is (and is it really that great?!?), there are plenty of places I can spend my money where they aren't rude to customers. In short, feel free to go there if you care only about quality (since that has been some other users' experience) and not about service. I have no desire to support places that overcharge, use bait and switch tactics, or treat customers badly. read more

Just had K&L do its first framing job for me. Though framing is never cheap, I felt that they did an excellent job at a price that was very reasonable. I also was impressed with how they put a tag with identifying information about the artist on the back of the picture, even though this was a print by an emerging artist that I had purchased for $20 three years ago (yes, framing the print cost several times more than the print - but monetary worth is only part of the value of the artwork to me). I will certainly return to K&L for my next framing job! read more

They were patient and more than understanding of my budget. The owner came over and offered up a very nice discount for me so that I could still have the quality framing I wanted yet remain within my budget restrictions. I went there based on previous yelp review and I'm happy to offer up my own. Indeed. Framing is never cheap and knowing that before going into KH Art Framing for my first professional framed piece, I was prepared to fork over some dough to have it done. The guy who worked with me was incredibly helpful in explaining all of the different options to me and when he revealed to me the total for the package I chose, well I sort of freaked out a little and wasn't sure if I might have to wait to get it done. Being such an amazing salesman (and just a nice guy I think) he cut me a deal and whipped me out of my sticker shock. Kenny and his brother are just the best! My mom and I have gone to them a number of times, most recently to get items from my wedding framed for both of us. Kenny spent a ton of time with me figuring out the mat and frame style, putting everything together, and even giving me a discount for being a newlywed! When I went to pick it up, I ended up really not liking the mat I selected and Kenny worked with me to find one that fit perfectly. It was beautiful and Kenny didn't charge me for the re-do saying that he wanted happy customers...now THAT is customer service! I will never ever set foot in this store or deign to pick up a phone. I was completely disgusted with the level of service I received from not only the staff in the Arlington location, but the OWNER, who also owns the other locations in the DMV. I simply wanted to duplicate some existing frames I have to increase the number in the set. The retailer doesn't carry these frames any longer, so I contacted some custom framing stores. It's not a complicated frame. Seriously. They at first tried to tell me that this was a manufactured frame. Yes, I know that. I'm the one that purchased them from Crate and Barrel. I had to explain that it isn't an item they carry any longer, and the actual manufacturer, Umbra (if I recall), doesn't carry them either. Once we went around a few times in that annoying conversation, they said they would check around to see what they could find. I never got a call back and checked in on the status. They said they couldn't find any frames like mine. (which wasn't what I had asked them to do) I clarified that they are in fact a custom framing store, yes, and how difficult would it be to make these frames? At this point I was talking to the owner, who even gave me his cell phone number since I had stopped in the store 2 separate times and he wasn't there after telling me that he's always there. He said they would check around. I never heard back and called the owner on his cell phone. He said he tried to call me and the call didn't go through. I only provided a cell number on the work order. He said he was still working on it, but the prices he was getting for the custom cut glass were really high, and I'd end up paying close to $1000 for 6 frames. [Note, that he said there is only one custom glass shop, and mentioned the name of this shop to me which I wrote down - it's in Fairfax.] I suggested some alternatives, like plexi glass, and reiterated that the frames didn't have to match the others identically, but if they were close it would be good enough for me. He sounded encouraged by that and said he would continue looking into it. I didn't hear back. I called him again, and he said he tried to call me but he didn't have my extension number. Since when did cell phone numbers have extensions?? He said he was still working on it, but it wasn't looking good even with the substitute suggestions. About a week passes and I got a call from the store, one of the staff. It was a snippy message saying my frame was still there and I need to pick it up. I explained that there is probably a misunderstanding, I've been working with the owner who had implied that it was doable. I was transferred to another staff, who apologized for the misunderstanding, but stated that the owner himself left me a message saying they couldn't do the frames. Really?? I never got that message. The owner is the one who at two different times said he tried to call me and the call wouldn't go through. My issue is not that they couldn't fix the frames. If they can't, they can't. My issue is that the staff was snippy, and the owner was a complete FLAKE. I gave them one number at which to reach me, and he never once called me. I later was at Home Depot, got the name of a glass place in Alexandria, and they are cutting my glass pieces for me at about $30 a pop. Hardly the $1000 KH Art & Framing was quoting to me. I would avoid this store if it was the last place that had electricity during a black out. read more

I recently went on a little trip to Afghanistan paid for by Uncle Sam. Some of the guys and gals I worked with got me a shadow box made with a flag that had been flown there along with some other memorabilia. It looked nice, but it didn't survive the trip home. The glass got smashed and the frame took a beating too. I brought it in to repair it and, unfortunately, there was not much that could be done. However, KH did an awesome job making a new, even better looking looking frame/shadow box than the original. They do very high quality work and they are very honest. They even honored a coupon I came across after I had already dropped off the work. I will definitely get all my framing work done here. read more

I went to K&H after reading all the good review on Yelp and it more than lived up to my expectations! I wanted to have a family heirloom framed and the staff spent a ton of time showing me different options and helping me pick out a frame that accentuated the piece. They were friendly, patient, and very willing to work within my budget. When I went back to pick up my piece, I actually gasped when they unwrapped it because it looked so stunning. They took an old oil painting that had been sitting in a musty basement for 15 years and turned it into something that looks like it could be in a museum! I frame everything, from diplomas to ticket stubs - and i have them framed here. the staff rocks (special thanks to Jimmy) and is very patient with me and they are very knowledgable about colors and textures that enhance any "art" you may have. They've done some quality framing for us. Their turnaround time can usually be pretty quick and it's convenient to my house, thereby avoiding a trek to Seven Corners to get framing done at one of those headache-inducing craft stores like Michaels. I'd say KH is a bit pricier, so find a coupon if you can. Unfortunately, coupons only apply to their in-stock frames, of which the selection is a little limited. I recently took two items in for work; one was an old document from the late 1800s that desperately needed matting, a new frame, and archival glass and the other was a a document that had previously been framed but had gotten off kilter in the matting. The woman who helped was great! She was very patient as she listened to what I wanted to do with each piece and had some great suggestions for both pieces. My job was finished on the exact day that I was originally quoted, which was nice. When I arrived to pick up my order, the staff carefully unwrapped both pieces and had me look over them to make sure they were exactly what I had asked for. I'm very pleased with everything!
