I took my 2012 Subaru Outback here because the battery kept on dying, so I got a new battery and…read morethe new one also kept on dying. They took it in and concluded that we needed a new alternator. They replaced the alternator and we picked up the car. On the drive home, the car completely stopped working while I was driving downhill on Burnside. (Everything stopped working: radio, a/c, lights.) I was able to pull into a driveway before everything went out (it happened over the span of about 15 seconds). Even after I pulled into the driveway, I couldn't put the car in park, turn on the emergency brake, turn on hazards, etc. It was a very scary and unsafe position for me to be in. I called the auto shop and they said they couldn't get to me for half an hour, but they gave me a number to call for a towing service they work with. I called the number and the towing company couldn't get to me for an hour. I called back the auto shop and updated them on the situation. Someone from the auto shop came and took over holding down the brake in the car and waiting for the towing service. They then were able to take it back to the shop and they learned that there was a visible crack in the negative port of the battery and that is what was causing the problem. We decided to take the car home and fix the issue ourselves because it was actually a very simple thing to fix and we had lost trust in this auto shop. They did eat the costs of the new alternator and the towing service. But the fact that they didn't realize that the crack in the battery port thing was the problem before they put in a new alternator was very disappointing and if I didn't react faster, it could have put me and others in lots of danger. I will say the service was great. The people I talked to on the phone and at the auto shop were all very sweet and until my car stopped working, I was planning on giving them a 5-star review.

Like when they replaced the starter, and then it wouldn't start -- they diagnosed a dying battery (starter was fine), and even tightened all the belts for free after the hubby went and got a new battery. I had a triple a tow truck driver tell me I needed a new battery. I wasn't so sure so I took my 27 yr old ford escort to Clemens. I said I wanted them to figure out the battery issue & I wanted an oil change. Well they tried to sell me a brand new Napa battery for $220 and when I balked, they got weird. I said I wasn't going to have the car much longer so why would I want to spend that kind of money on a battery. I said I'd get a battery & bring it there for them to install. they said okay. I took them the battery & expected the oil change to be done & I could take my car. Wrong! They had still not done the oil change & their reason was that they couldn't do it if the car had a dead battery. I thought since they were an auto repair shop that they could figure out how to do an oil change on a car that needed a battery, like use a battery that they keep on hand just for this reason. But no I had to leave my car over the weekend. when it still wasn't ready on Mon evening I was pissed. I said just install the battery, forget the oil change. they'd had my car for 3 days & done nothing, then they charged me $60 to install the battery, saying that they really should have charged me the full diagnostic charge which is $120.00. Wow what a ripoff place!
