Second, my car started telling me it needed service. Because it was fairly new to me, I didn't know what that meant. Gills took the l time necessary to talk with me about what was and was not needed. They were patient and understanding of my comparative ignorance of things mechanical. I recommend them highly.

Magically the old starter was sent back for a core when I asked to test it myself. She took it back and they had it for a long time and kept saying that they couldn't duplicate issue. Went to pick up and it wouldn't start. They were entirely incapable of the diagnosis, my wife got online and found forums that the neutral safety switch (in transmission) was a known issue. Paid nearly$1000. Drove home car wouldn't shift. They forgot to put fluid in it. When I asked for that to be in writing, the owner told me that if he needs to replace the tranny, he would but then would blackball us from the shop. A few months later, the no start issue came back. We took it in several times for warranty. Was told that they once again couldn't duplicate the issue. Once it finally failed for good, I called for warranty the owner literally told me that we missed warranty by a week. The part is like $50 and the majority was labor. They don't stand behind their work and are not competent enough to do it correctly. Took it to another shop and had it repaired correctly. The only reason that I'm leaving 1 star is that the star rating doesn't allow me to go any lower. I'm hoping that a healthy dose of karma comes Jim's way.

A few months ago was having some coffee a few minutes from my house and when I got back to my car, it wouldn't start. Luckily the employee at the coffee shop has a motorcycle and said they "knew a guy" that was very close by thats done great work on bikes and other vintage type vehicles that belonged to people he knew. I decided what the heck and I gave him a shot! When I called him and explained the issue he said he thought he knew what the problem was and came to me (he works on Porsches) and got my car started so we could get it down to his shop. Black Moon is a sweet, privately owned business right under the St. John's bridge in a double decked, converted shipping container. (Talk about Portland!) Within half an hour he has my starter all fixed and it's worked perfectly since! Now I'm just coming back for oil changes and tune ups. I'm so glad I found them!

My truck ended up needing more of a repair than what we initially discussed and after many hours on their part of trying to complete the original repair the crew at GD had to let me know she needed a little more than they bargained for. Instead of making me eat the cost of the exploratory surgery on my rusty old rig they took one on the chin and only charged me for the unexpected parts. For this reason I will be taking my truck back there again and again for anything she needs as long as its work they can do! Did I mention that our tech? We worked closely mostly with Caleb during the repair process and he was a refreshingly clear and open communicator about the process, this again is not what I have come to expect from a repair shop. After I got it towed to Legacy, they had it up on the rack immediately,communicated the issue and resolution very quickly, and had my car back to me within 4 hours of dropping it off. Very responsive and competitive prices. Also provided me with competitive quote on new tires for near future (on my request). These guys are interested in a long term customer relationship. I purchased a beautiful 1993 Hiace Super Custom Limited in June 2018. The process was very…read morestraightforward and easy. Danny is easy to work with and very accommodating. He went above and beyond getting the van into top shape for my drive back to LA and we spent 30-40 minutes going over the details of the van such as how to check all the fluid levels, things to watch out for, maintenance intervals, etc. The trip went off without a hitch and it was very easy to get used to the right hand drive. Over the past year, I have had a few incidents with the van (some my fault, some due to the age of the vehicle, some due to other mechanics) and Danny has always been not only extremely responsive, but also helpful in figuring out the fix, and was able to diagnose a few tricky issues from 1000 miles away! (bad fuel injector, idle surging, black smoke). At this point, I don't trust anyone else to work on this van and plan on making the 18 hour drive next time I need any serious work done because it's worth it! If you get one of these vans, you owe it to yourself to have one of the most knowledgable experts at your fingertips when you or another mechanic have questions about how to work on them. Oh yeah, when you buy from Vanlife Northwest, you have support for the life of the van. I'm not aware of any other dealers that offer that kind of customer service.
