I am something of an afficianado of the Mongolian Grill concept. As such, I have been to more than a few. I know what to expect. This location had a decent offering of proteins and vegetables. Some things were of questionable freshness. Maybe not so critical a detail with the veggies, but it's kinda important with the proteins.... My bowl came out on the cusp of being undercooked. I had lots of shrimp and calamari on board, so this was anxiety-inducing. The kicker was when my fried rice came to me orange. I was skeptical at first because I am unfamiliar with Mongolian food and I'm an EXTREMELY picky eater...but I had nothing to fear! This place was AWESOME! The inside is on the smaller side. The ambience is nice and trendy, dark, casual, and quiet. This place is basically a mixture between Spoon's Yogurt (self-service option) AND The Hana Steakhouse (cooks grill your food while you wait). You basically go in and the host hands you a metal bowl, where you then may go to the bar (designed like a salad bar) and you "make or prepare" your OWN dish. Station (1) Meats; (2) Vegetables; (3) Sauce; (4) Rice/Noodle. Then they grill it for you and bring it to your table. The workers are really nice. The price at lunch (ends at 3pm) on Weekdays is $8.69 ($12.00 at dinner). I love that you can pack your bowl with all meats and the price STAYS the same! It takes about 5-7 minutes for your food to be cooked. The only downside is that this place has become extremely popular in Alexandria. At first people seemed scared to eat here until word-of-mouth got out that this place was amazing. I would avoid coming here during lunch! But anytime after lunch the crowd should be gone. The food quality and taste is very similar to your typical Japanese/Chinese restaurants...maybe a bit fresher though since everything is grilled. I will definitely be back :) read more

This place was recommended to me by co worker so the wife and I decided to go ahead and give it a try. We were NOT disappointed. Upon arrival they give you a metal bowl where you then go to a salad bar and choose your meat, vegetables, seasonings, and sauce. Once you've filled your bowl you then choose whether you want your dish to be served with rice or a variety of different types of noodles. Now if you're new to the Mongolian grill experience I advice you to keep it simple, it's very easy to over season or under season your food. Khan's Mongolian Grill is a welcome distraction from the culinary monotony that Alexandria, LA exhibits in abundance. The selection of meats and vegetables that you can stuff in your bowl is great, the sauces and spices are tasty, and the udon noodles are fantastic. One of my coworkers said it best, "if you don't like what you got here it's your own fault cuz you made it" This place gets packed during lunchtime, and on weekend evenings as well. Great resturant where you can pick and choose what you want to eat. The only downfall is your own self. While the bowl may seem tiny, you can pile up as much as you want and what you want. Dinner was $11.99 for one bowl of stuff plus one add-on (noodle varieties, rice varieties, tortillas, extra cabbage, etc.) Add up to 2 fried eggs for that price too. Sauces go in side cups (not in the food bowl) but you can use as many as needed. We overloaded our bowls before the grill. With the added rice or noodles, it appeared to double the volume. Food was so good and cooked perfectly. I've been on a keto diet so this was a great option for my family. Instead of eating over rice or noodles, shredded lettuce was an option (so good). I had an 8 year old and 11 year old with me and they both cleaned their bowl. The only complain that my oldest son had war that he ordered rice for his food to be served over and when it came out it was orange. Looked more like Mexican rice. This place is a great choice for fresh ingredients and fast prep. You choose exactly what you want from the portions to the selection. Be warned they charge per price of bowl so stack that thing high if your hungry; although the portions they give are usually more than enough to fill you up. The lunch bowl is 7.99 and the dinner is 11.99 both are offered to stay or go. You start off with a large bowl and you go up to the self serve food bar. The food station has noodles and rice, raw meats and veggies, and seasonings and sauces to choose from. Please do not forget to season your food, but please note it is extremely easy to add to much season to the point the dish can be almost inedible. I accidentally added way too much seasoning on my first visit here. Anyways, after you pile up your toppings you hand your bowl to the chef who then prepares your dish for you on a Mongolian grill. When your bowl is done they'll bring it out to you. There's some element of being proud that you got the freedom to pick and choose exactly what you wanted to try in your very own delicious dish that you thought of. This place just opened (around the end of November, 2012). It has an airy feel on the inside with trendy blue lighting accents. The overall effect is a little cool and dim. Diners are supplied a salad bowl sized stainless steel bowl within which to place the raw ingredients for their Mongolian barbecue. They have beef, chicken, chicken breast, shrimp, scallops, calamari, mussels and these vegetables: corn, snow peas, tomatoes, many types of mushrooms, dried and sliced hot peppers, several leafy greens, cilantro, onions, etc. At the end of the raw buffet line there are three types of sauces and many, many dry spices. You hand your bowl of ingredients over to the chef who grills it on the big, prominently featured Mongolian barbecue griddle. You return to your table and the servers bring your completed meal in a large bowl atop your selection of brown or white rice or three types of noodles. The shrimp was especially fresh and good, but all ingredients were fresh and tasty. There's a fixed price on weekends of $10.99 per meal, which was a bargain considering the quantity and quality of the food. One meal could feed two, and take home boxes were available for leftovers. The service was extremely fast, with the ingredient selection and cooking and serving consuming 10 minutes, at most. It was all fast and easy. This was he first Mongolian barbecue I've tried, so I will be better at my selection and spicing next time. There were 12-15 tables, all brand new. This place let's you choose your own ingredients down to butter and seasoning. I mean you do everything besides cook it . If you lack knowledge of asain flavor profiles and methods then your experience won't be great. I suggest you keep it simple, especially if you cant compose a decent flavor at home. This concept is to me very weak because the customer determines the experience. Ingredients are fresh and plentiful and the staff is helpful. The thing that would really help this place is maybe a menu that has basic recipes. Also the fact that there's raw meat juice on the items selection spoons means there should be a bigger bathroom and larger emphasis on hand washing. 1st time here, really enjoyed everything. The experience and the food. When you walk in you're handed a metal bowl and a card. When I explained to the waitress I'd never been there she explained the process. You pick out your "carb" and put it on the card with your name. They have a variety or rices and noodles. When I explained I didn't know the difference in the noodles listed she handed me a covered plate with samples on it. Once you choose that you head to the bar. It is kind of small. Not meaning it doesn't have many options but it doesn't leave much room to look or go back. If it's busy (which it was) I can see it being overwhelming. People are close to you and rushing you but very easy to step out of line and let them go. Once you pick whatever meats you want you move to veggies. The confusing part is sauces, they have a variety of sauces. You're supposed to put them into a cup to be placed on your food when cooking. However, if you don't know what they taste like it can be difficult. I would imagine you could try them if you wish. Then their is a counter with spices and seasoning. Same concept. Put them into a cup. They will sprinkle it on your food. Once it's prepared, they bring it out. I found it very tasty with the options I chose. Very filling. Price decent. Clean.
