"Best BBQ" has to be the some sort of inside joke. I was driving through town about to stop at canes and I saw this place and thought I'd give it a try... big mistake. I ordered the brisket platter, and every single item was terrible. The brisket was dry, tough, and completely flavorless. The mac and cheese tasted like overcooked plain noodles with the tiniest hint of cheese--boxed Easy Mac is better. The fries were soggy, bland, and not even salted. The actual bbq sauce was pretty decent but that's useless if what it's trying to complement is garbage. I've had frozen BBQ meals from Walmart that were miles ahead of this. Charging restaurant prices for "food" this bad is embarrassing. If this is what you call the best BBQ, I'd hate to see the worst. I won't be back. As a certified KCBS BBQ judge (and someone who admittedly takes BBQ way too seriously), I know seasoning styles can vary from state to state--but properly cooked meat is universal. If it's cooked right, I'm usually pretty forgiving. I ordered the two-meat plate and asked for fatty brisket (the point), but didn't get a single piece. Instead, I got lean brisket--good portion, cooked decent, but not what I asked for. The plate came with two ribs. They were "fall off the bone," which usually means overcooked. Ate at Outlaw BBQ for the first time in 23 years today. It was fabulous! My son got a burger, my daughter got chicken bites, my wife got the Chopped Brisket Sandwich and I got the Half Chicken Plate and added a Sausage link. The chicken was super tender and juicy, the sausage was good, maybe a little dry for me, but still good! That's what sauce is for. The Fried Okra was super crispy and tasted GREAT...easily one of the best sides I've had at a restaurant, and the Green Beans, were great...plenty of flavor from bacon and bits of sausage in it. Outlaw's is a good place for lunch. One of the first BBQ restaurants I remember from my childhood was Luther's in Marrero, LA. If Outlaw's wasn't once a Luther's, I would be shocked. The layout is exactly the same. On a trip across Louisiana for work, I arrived in the area around lunchtime. Since BBQ is my go-to food, I searched Yelp and this is what I found. Here is how it works; order at the counter, get a number and grab a seat. While you wait you can make yourself a bowl of onions and pickles and fix your drink (always make a bowl of onions and pickles). Once the food is ready it will be brought to the table. Since I have only been once I can only comment on their brisket. While I would have preferred thicker slices, the meat was very smoky and had a great taste. I didn't expect legit BBQ, but I got it. The side salad was pretty standard and nothing to write home about. I will be back the next time I am in the area. If you are looking for a quick BBQ lunch, you should try Outlaws. read more

Stopped in on my way home for some lunch. Place looks like an old Colters or Luthers BBQ that's been converted. I Got the 2 rib plate which was more than enough for me. Ribs were good nice flavor but could have been a little more "fall of the bone". BBQ sauces were good too. The baked beans and potato salad were ok for me but I would have liked a little more something too them. It's nice this restaurant is open for indoor dining since I past over 3 other places to eat since the lobbies were closed, but it would have been nice to see some better adherence to the COVID rules by the customers and staff when it comes to masks. Well, we finally returned! I was very anxious for our follow up to what would sure be some good food. My Sundance burger was amazing and full of flavor. The jack cheese left me with a hint of something good. My wife's Brisket Baker potato was good and full of meat and fixings. The onion ring loaf was just that...a loaf of onion rings, all kinda stuck together, soft and mushy. I wasn't impressed. Our server must have been having a bad day. He had an attitude that stretched from Alexandria to Chickasaw, LA (look it up). When I asked him to find me a bar-be-que sauce bottle that was clean, you woulda sworn I asked him to push an 18-wheeler up a hill...with his huffing and puffing. My sister and I both have Celiac disease and was in town looking for BBQ. We asked an employee about gluten content. He didn't know what gluten was but went to ask a manager. When he came back, he said the manager said "just assume that everything has gluten in it". I've been places where they couldn't guarantee gluten free due to cross contamination but never to a place that couldn't be confident of their ingredients on ANYTHING.
