Writing this because this cafe deserves more hype in my opinion. Cute cafe near the SkyTrain station. This place feels very welcoming and cozy. The cafe is decorated so adorably with bookshelves full of manga and lots of figures. They have a great dessert selection with over-the-top hip waffles, Japanese cakes and baked goods, and a variety of bubble tea. They also have a coffee and tea selection. I think everything is very reasonably priced for a cafe like this. I had the ube souffle cake and matcha latte which were so delicious and aesthetically plated for the gram. I appreciate the matcha flavour and that it wasn't very sweet. Ube souffle cake was such a treat; it was purple and appealing and also tasted so good. Total price was less than $9 and the quality is noticeable in all the items. I came here to study which worked out because there's plenty of seating, wifi and outlets. Staff are friendly but there's usually one working at a time. I would definitely recommend this place for hanging out with any group size, or for alone time, reading manga and studying, or honestly anything in between. read more

It is comparable to lattes I have had at other Asian shops such as Blossom Teas and Basho Cafe. The matcha waffle was a lovely light dessert. I would have liked some fresh blueberries. For the price, I think it was a reasonably priced snack. Now to the mango slush, we had the choice of mango powder or syrup and type of tea. No fresh fruit option. I would have paid extra for fresh fruit instead but it was $0.50 extra for slush texture. Drink tasted alright but I have had better elsewhere. Ambiance is really cute if you like anime. There are plenty of seating available. Service was attentive and courteous. Staff provided us an extra plate and extra set of cutlery to share the waffle without us asking. Staff also brought the drinks and waffle to our table. It probably helped that we were the only customers at that time but good for them to provide the extra attention. Adorable little place. We came in with no expectations and left very happy. We had the blueberry matcha waffle which was quite delicious and 2 bubble teas. The bubble tea wasn't anything spectacular but it wasn't bad. They had a fridge of cute pastries that we will definitely be coming back to try. I'm also curious about there tea and coffee and sandwich waffles. They sell boxes of tea (I forgot the brand) and cute music box things. The tea samples are placed in pretty perfume-like glass bottles that you can remove the cap off to smell. The decor is minimal but pleasant and lovely. I recognized the music playing in the cafe were tunes from various Hayao Miyazaki movies. There is free parking outside and it is very close to Royal Oak Skytrain Station. Chill place, quite this Sunday night. Stopped in for a spot of dessert and some tea. Pomegranate tiramisu was light and not overly sweet, but the London Fog was not nearly hot enough - closer to warm than hot. A simple tea house within the area right off Kingsway. It has delicious waffles, and sandwiches. Simple flavours for a good price, and with bubbletea as well. It is very anime oriented, and it is very quiet so you can hang out with some friends for studying, or playing board games. They don't mind :) Just opened last month and they didn't have a Yelp Page so I made one for them as well. I had a salami waffle. The amount of ingredients to waffle is not a lot, but I wish they would have had a way to keep the waffle on top of the ingredients. They should use toothpicks to keep the together like a sandwich. :) The bubble tea is simple and they usually serve them in take away cups, unless you are ordering them warm. Before this place opened, I used to loiter in Camellia (next door) whenever I find myself wanting to do work outside home. Camellia wasn't bad but when I tried and got a taste of Ki when they opened, I started to visit it more and even prefer it more than Camellia when I am in the mood for doing work in a cafe. First things first, I really like the atmosphere of this place. It is not very busy and the amount of long tables and bar tables it has inside makes sure that you get a seat. Their generous supply of power outlines too ensures that you can work for a long time. There are a plethora of manga books you can read. I guess they did intend you to stay long here due to the fact that they have all these books available for you to read. Nice! *Side Note Comparison*: I had a dissatisfying experience in Camellia where I was approached by an older lady (owner, I guess) that I needed to buy coffee in order to sit even. I do understand protecting your business but at that time, I just settled my bags (Pretty sure she saw me just come in) and my friend who was already there waiting for me already got her drinks that she bought. Ridiculous if you ask me. Back to Ki, the baristas were very friendly and would even deliver your drinks to your table given that they are not busy. Most of the people that visit this place, from my experience here are quieter which works well for me because I really like to concentrate on my work. The food and drinks are not that bad. With their pricing, I would rate it as justifiable. The waffles look very simple but that is because they priced it simply too (at the time $6). I guess this place is more of a themed bubble tea cafe with a more relaxing atmosphere, probably shaped by the way they designed their interiors. Needs improvement. Am writing this review as I'd like this place to succeed, and hopefully the owner will take this as constructive criticism so I can upgrade my rating soon. I'll start with the good - the place looks great. They've done a really good job in creating an airy, open space with lots of light. Would love to come back for a drink and dessert with girlfriends. Now for the "needs improvement." Staff and Drinks (I won't comment on the food as I didn't try their waffles which seem to be their specialty). Business was slow when I popped in and ordered myself a bubble tea and sandwich to go. There were three girls working, and it appeared that there was one girl that was training or assisting the other two with every single thing they did. Unfortunately, she was so distracted with helping the others that when making my milk tea she forgot the sugar. Most bbtea places are too heavy handed with the sugar, so I usually ask for half sweet - but there was literally ZERO sugar in my drink. I saw them remove my sandwich it from the grill...and then nothing. I waited for a bit, then walked around to the other side of the counter and found two of the girls in deep conversation while my sandwich just sat on the counter. Fairly certain whatever they were talking about could have waited the 30 seconds it took to box and hand me my food. Hope they can work out the kinks as there is definitely potential here for a lovely new addition to the neighbourhood. read more

I absolutely love this cafe! If you're an anime or manga lover you would love this coffee shop! They also have bubble tea, waffles and cakes! I come here to get some work done and when I need to take a break I just pick up one of the mangas that's available on the book shelf to read. Finally found my new study spot in Burnaby! I noticed Ki at their old location near Kingsway and never really paid attention to them until they moved closer to Royal Oak skytrain. The space is much larger now and is student-friendly with many large tables and power plugs for you to use. The place is nice, warm and filled with scents of fresh waffles and tea! However, the drinks were meh. I ordered the honey green milk tea with pearls. It was very watery and barely had any tastes of honey or tea. The pearls weren't that satisfying either. I waited half an hour for them to cook because I came in right when they opened, but the pearls were obviously not coated in the brown sugar and just were really hard to chew. Will come back for sure, but will probably just stick with items from their coffee menu next time! read more

Brand new place that opened near Royal Oak Skytrain station. I came here on the way to my workout. I was really looking forward to this being my go-to place after my work out, however, was severely underwhelmed, mostly by the customer service. They acted as though they would rather be elsewhere than serving customers. It was empty and they acted as though I was interrupting their busy day. When she asked how I wanted to pay she looked at my credit card as if it was a foreign specimen. Rather than putting my waffles at the table I was sitting at. She waited outside the washroom for me and just handed me my plate. The whip cream was half way melted by the time it arrived. I ate my "cream soup" with a spoon. My matcha waffles were un epic. Hello where's the matcha? Clearly hiding since I tasted no matcha. For all I know they could've used green food coloring. At least the bathroom was clean. Plus points for that. read more

Ki is a pretty cute cafe, I've been here twice now to study. It's pretty spacious and not too loud, and they play good korean music (if you're into that). The desserts are all pretty good, but the drinks are pretty bad... We had the coffee last time and a matcha bubble tea and for this visit I stuck to a grapefruit san pellegrino... The waffle was drizzled with Okonomiyaki sauce, mayo, bonito flakes and nori. Yes, those are all elements of Okonomiyaki, but where's the rest? I at least expected a bit of cabbage or even ginger in the batter. Nope, nothing. A child can make that waffle blindfolded. I have been a major fan of this tea house since their soft opening so many moons ago. I stumbled into Ki Tea House because it was open, while the cafe next door where I had intended to buy a drink was closed. For their soft opening, Ki Tea House did 50% off bubble tea. I left with 10 cups of various bubble teas to drink at home. They were quick and pleasant and the tea was delicious. I returned a few weeks later and they greeted me warmly and it was then I discovered they had waffles. I ate waffles at Ki Tea House once a week for two months and they were always fast and delicious and the customer service friendly. There have been past issues with them unexpectedly not being open. But that hasn't happened for a really long time. I would absolutely recommend Ki Tea House to anyone who likes tea or waffles. read more

It's actually pretty cool that a Japanese or Asian based cafe themed on "kawaii and animé" exists in Vancouver. The food choices are unique and quite appetizing as well. I mean, green tea cookie? You'd think such a delicious thing isn't possible but it is in this small cafe. Only thing I will say though is the staff aren't really the friendliest. Certain baristas tend to show that they don't really want to be there. I think that's the only distasteful thing about this cafe. There was only one girl at the counter, and two customers before me just ordered two slushies. She went ahead to prepare their drinks without saying a word to me. There was a guy behind me waiting too. My order was very simple. Just an Apple turnover. It would take just a minute. After she finally got to me, she didn't say anything. Like "sorry for the wait". Nothing. She offered to warm up the turnover though. I agreed, not knowing that they have the oldest and slowest oven ever. I guess it's better than microwave. But so slow! Super close to my house so I loved coming here to study. The employees were always super friendly and kind, perfectly fine with me crashing for 4-6 hours at a time. Sometimes it does get busy during weekends but you just have to come early. I love the atmosphere, absolutely so clean and refreshing. I love seeing the wall of manga and the little drawings everywhere; kinda reminds me of some place they'd use in dramas. The waffle here is actually really good if you don't mind the wait, same with the hot drinks; they're reaaaaally aesthetically pleasing. I was there in November, we came early to have a breakfast. There was just one girl working. She was very nice, but because she was alone it took her awhile to get our order done. She brought us lattes first, btw lattes tasted great. But then we were waiting for our waffles for about 20 minutes more, and when she brought them my latte was already cold, because I prefer to drink and eat together.... Been going to this place since it first opened, and I was working near by. The staff were so nice and approachable, and I loved the way it was uniquely decorated. I've tried 3 different types of cookies, even though it was out of my comfort zone to do so, and each one was great. I've also tried their sandwiches, which look and taste delicious, and are filling. I recommended it to 2 of my close friends who live in the area, because it always satisfied my sweet tooth and hunger. Whenever I am in the area, I still visit to get a couple of treats :) read more
