I haven't seen any bugs here like the other reviews mentioned but that's probably cause I'm here when it's sub 50 degree temperatures. Go and explore this one yourself; you'll be quite pleased! This 80 acre park offers a miniature version of the great outdoors minus the camping (park hours are 7am to dusk every day). I've visited several large parks in Houston, but this one stands out with how much natural shade it provides. There's something for everyone here: fishing, volleyball, swings, campfires, canoeing, etc. I enjoyed walking the trail before having a peaceful 20 minute meditation session on the swing chair. Reflecting back, it's probably worth bringing a friend for the latter next time. Several signs warn of alligators and snakes throughout the park, and part of me felt preoccupied with the danger of an animal sneaking up on me while I closed my eyes. Apparently armadillos roam this area too? I gotta come back to the trails and see for myself next time.

I actually went up to a table that someone had left their stuff I just to sit at the edge of it because it was very bright but they need more tables with covered shade or shaded areas. I love to visit different parks in different locations but I'm always a little confused as to why there is not shaded areas even on top of the playgrounds because the equipment gets so hot in the summer and even in the winter is quite bright. The playground is great and my kids absolutely love the swing where a baby and older child could swing together. We also had fun with the faux tire swing. It was really nice to be able to see people jogging along the trails and women walking together on around the park-- I really enjoyed the feeling of community here.

Coming in at a hefty 65-70lbs of questionable coordination, expert intellect, and pure speed, it's been a challenge mentally and physically exhausting my active Border Collie mix. Unfortunately even after his very active dog dad's runs combined with a generous backyard and playdates with his fur friend, he's got more remaining energy in one paw than I have in an entire month. This park is fabulous regardless of if your fur baby is this active, or prefers to relax on a bench undisturbed (although a division for the two play styles is the only thing I'd suggest adding). As others have mentioned, the dog beach, shaded benches, dog runs, trail, doggy showers, and overall cleanliness of the park are impressive. Additionally most dog parents are as trained as their pups, remaining attentive, and polite. Just be sure to watch the water if your pup is overconfident in their swimming abilities.
