Uptown lunch at Cashew Kid is a must, especially if you hit that 11 AM-3 PM sweet spot for the best specials. Bravo Emily for giving us five-star service; her attention to detail and knowledge of the menu were top-notch. The chicken avocado sandwich paired with the five-cheese cast-iron mac was excellent. Beet lovers will be delighted by the Woodfire Grill beets with whipped feta and mandarin orange. Pro-Tip: Speak with Sasha for more insight on large group events. It's the perfect chill atmosphere for a high-quality city lunch. Follow me for more of my favorite Charlotte finds!
I said it six years ago, and I'll say it again -- just go to Kid Cashew. In all the years since my first visit, I've had nothing but good food and good experiences. The food is consistently good and has so many good-for-you options that you can't go wrong, whether you're ordering a wood-fired portobello gyro or the deliciously juicy Big Mac daddy. (Ok, that last one's not good for your health, but it *is* good for your tastebuds.) All hail the wood-fire grill! The patio outside is still a great spot, even in the winter when it's covered. And there is plenty of group seating inside, too. I've used their catering services for work events and have enjoyed introducing so many of my team members to what is *still* one of my favorite spots in Charlotte.
Brunch on a Sunday! Yum! Kids eat free... 3 options but good portions. Mimosas crafes were only $12. Wow! Food was great. Chicken salad was real pulled chicken and great avocado. Kids French toast was stuffed with strawberry so good! Quinoa stuff avocado was so fresh! Octopus was fantastic!!!! Service was good not great but fine. Got busy so we understood the wait. Took unreasonable long for 1 of the meals to come out, otherwise would have gone 5

Food is consistently excellent- service is fast - and if go between 3-6p Mon- Fri you'll catch their happy hour pricing - all small plate are 7 - today only 55 bucks and that included 3 cocktails Get the LAMB burger Also GET - the grilled octopus the grilled beets the shrimp and polenta the meatballs in a savory rich brown gravy get the hummus - they are all delicious It's a cozy spot with a fairly large patio too! We hit this place up at 2-3 times each month!
This dining experience was a family event and I must say- it was perfect. I love how eclectic the place is and the staff was friendly (albeit a bit sparse.) The food was affordable and absolutely delicious! I had the lamb burger and we split the Mac n cheese, avocado and one of the popular dips. Everything was so good and I haven't stopped thinking about it. Will def be returning next time I'm in the area.
Sat at the bar for a quick meal here. It was lively, but not too loud. I ordered the octopus, meatballs, and rotisserie chicken. The octopus was flavorful, but a tad bit chewy for my liking. It was not enough to take away from the dish. The meatballs were phenomenal. They were tender, juicy, and the sauce they came in was INSANE. Lastly, the rotisserie chicken was well-seasoned and very moist. My only complaint would be that it's a bit hard to pull apart, but that is to be expected. The service was friendly and attentive, especially for sitting at the bar. I love that they were shirts with "goats" like Ali and Bourdain. Additionally, the prices are extremely reasonable. Definitely want to try more of the menu. Overall 4.4/5
One Star for my server! She was so sweet. I guess when you see a lot of people sitting outside on the patio, that means the weather is really nice but that doesn't mean that the food is any good probably the worst hamburger I've had in Charlotte. No flavor bland ...says asked for medium but is undercooked the mac & cheese is supposed to be a five cheese mac & cheese, but it has onions and leaks!!!??? No No No ...in it some kind of peppers or something also bland no taste but hey, it's only $11.95 lol... won't be back.
It's been a few years since we have been here so we decided to give it another shot. We went for brunch after @frontporchsundays. Between the two of us we had a Bloody Mary, a burger (not the Mac daddy, the one with bacon) and the egg stack . The good: the Bloody Mary had a bit more of a kick to it than my husband would like but he still enjoyed it and was the best thing we ordered. The not so good: The texture on the egg stack was strange and not pleasant at all. I left 2/3 of the little square on my plate untouched and the server didn't even comment or ask about it. The bacon was undercooked and limp but I cut off the fat and ate the bacon and avocado. I would NOT recommend the egg soufflé/stack. Lacking in flavor and the texture was not remotely egg-like. The burger had good flavor but the bun completely fell apart in my husband's hands after the FIRST BITE. He ate it with a fork and left the bun and the chips behind because the chips had a spicy seasoning on them and between that and his drink, it was too much spice. Again, the server takes his plate away with most of the food on the plate still and doesn't say a word. The first visit wasn't especially memorable and this second visit wasn't any better. I wish the business well but it's not the place for us.
Recommended by a local, we decided to try this restaurant after attending an event at the Parr Center nearby. Casual atmosphere, great sharables menu with a variety of both vegan, vegetarian and meat options. We thought they were good portions for two to share. Unfortunately, we didnt take any pic of the dishes except for dessert! Which, is not on the menu, ask your server about! We chose to sit on the outdoor porch because we had our dog with us. Wven with outside temps at 80 (in April) it was comfortably cool!
Where to even begin!? My brother was in between having us eat here and a place across from here called Penguin. I'm really happy we ate at Kid Cashew! From the service to the atmosphere on the patio where we chose to eat, everything was immaculate. Our server told us about a great deal where the tapas are all discounted until 6pm Monday through Friday. We got a bottle of wine for the table and tried a bunch of food to share for the table. I think one of my favorites was the chicken skewers! The chicken literally melted off the skewers and tasted so good with the cilantro lime. The Mac and cheese was to die for too. Can't forget the octopus! It paired well with the couscous and seasoning. If I was around here again in Charlotte, I would definitely come back here and do their tapas again! It was filling, hit the spot, and yummy!
The setting is cute, old timey, has outdoor seating also, menu has asterisk beside the gf options, but extremely loud with no sound buffers, lighting is harsh with uncovered bulbs, the front main entrance doesn't have any handicap access and it has a giant step up that's part of the cement and no hand rails, and the ramp at the end of the building isn't at a marked door so it looks like it's for deliveries. Food was beautiful on the plate but tasted absolutely horrible! The only thing on my plate that tasted good was the raw carrots, raw celery, and water if that tells you anything! I ordered gf 1/2 chicken and avocado sandwiche with a side of beets. The beets were burnt and the sandwich tasted so bad I gagged on it and only took two bites. The small amount of goat cheese that came on the beets was good. The waitress wasn't attentive to our table either. We did explain our food tasted horrible and she replaced it with a cilantro chipotle chicken skewer and the smell was so bad from it I couldn't eat it. Our daughters gluten food was bad as well. We will not go back to this place at all!
Upon entering the establishment we were quickly greeted and seated. Our server wasn't too far behind to take our drink order and took an order for a small plate for us to share. Our small plate arrived a shortly after about 5 minutes. We received the cast iron Mac and cheese and it was delicious and couldn't recommend enough. We decided to order the Big Cheese Burger and the All Natural wood fired chicken avocado. Our waiter at that point had been a little infrequent but had managed to keep our waters from going empty. When our meals arrived is where things took a turn. We hardly seen our waiter anymore, which was a bummer. My chicken sandwich ended up being shredded chicken which no where on the menu mentioned that, but I could've asked that prior to ordering I'll admit. Wood fired just led me to assume it would have been a patty. That being said of our meals were very bland. So I was looking for something to add at least to try to salvage it. Mine being shredded chicken it didn't really change how bland it was with trying to add salt and pepper or the chipotle sauce I was offered. I was offered two other things but those it's typically are on the bland side of things too so I didn't attempt. The burger was on a similar issue, no seasoning and just relied on the wood fire. The bacon on it was also unevenly cooked. The only thing not bland in our meals were the chips which were an unbalanced amount of cayenne pepper. Overall I liked the atmosphere and the starter. While it wouldn't be somewhere I'd highly recommend based on what I ordered, I'd definitely go back and try different items. Looking around us plenty of people seem to enjoy what they had ordered. So I'm assuming we just ordered something not as good, or had an off day for the cook.
I ordered takeout to the office and, unfortunately, the food wasn't very appealing. I ordered the Impossible Gyro, but it appeared to have some type of chicken in it, which was confusing and disappointing since I specifically chose a plant-based option. The meatballs, however, were good and definitely the highlight of the order. My food was ready in a timely manner, which I appreciated. Overall, the quality didn't quite meet my expectations this time. I may give the restaurant another try by dining in, but based on this experience, the food was just okay.

I really enjoy Kid Cashew. The menu is unique and everything I've tried has been great. They have a very good brunch too. It's an open layout with a patio. Free, good amount of parking and it has a decent price point. The place is always packed, it's that good. They use a first come first serve approach (maybe there's a better term) but the cooks just make all the dishes basically continuously so anyone who orders it, it's just ready. Meaning, you might not get your food when someone else at your table gets theirs. And then you might not get your side until you're halfway done with your main. It's not usually a problem because they are quick with it but it does make the service a little weird. Because of all of that I have had a couple wrong checks, they were all fixed but just be sure to double check! read more
A Charlotte MUST. My friend who visited Spain approved their grilled octopus, which has consistently been chewy--not rubbery--and downright delicious. Their vegan options are not to be ignored. I've never known that half an avocado could be so delicious. Their portobello gyro is also a go-to. Dooooo it. Pretty sure they still have cheap Sunday brunch drinks (mimosas and Bloody Mary's) so if the nom-worthy food isn't enough to entice: just go. read more

Went here for dinner after work one Monday night. This place is so different, from the decor and to the flavor of food! We got the spicy feta and shrimp/polenta for apps, lamb burger, lamb gyro, asparagus and 2 Moscow mules (peach flavored and strawberry jalepenos flavored ). Everything was soo yummy! My favorite part is everything is fresh off the grill and brought straight to your table! Kimberly was our waitress, she was great and super friendly! The hostess was also very welcoming :) This place is 500x better than STK uptown! read more

I enjoyed lunch here the other day. I had a friend visiting from out of town who has a gluten allergy and I was looking up places that would have a decent selection for her. Their lunch special is fulfilling and perfectly priced. I went with the skillet mac and cheese, 1/2 avocado chicken sandwich and she tried the rotisserie chicken with asparagus. The food was served hot , came in a decent amount of time and was really tasty. We also tried the spinach feta dip with both veggie and pita. A little much for my pallet but she really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be adding this place to my lunch rotation. read more

This place was so good that I went two days in a row! The atmosphere and ambiance walking up to and in the restaurant is warm, welcoming, casual, and gave a chic farmhouse vibe. You see the patio first and foremost, as it is along the street and you walk onto it to get through the front door. Despite always looking busy and crowded, there was plenty of seating in and outside. The hostesses were friendly, but the space inside the front door is tight. This is especially true considering the pickup/to-go orders are right inside the door as well. There isn't much room to stand and wait, so I suggest sending one person in to assess any wait times or seating availability if it seems crowded. I didn't have to wait either times I went. The first visit was dinner on a Sunday, and I sat inside. I had perused the menu before arriving and knew exactly what I wanted. The food did NOT disappoint. I ordered the Spicy Feta to start off the meal. It had just enough spice to give the feta a tiny kick, but it wasn't overwhelming at all. The flavor of the feta definitively dominated, and the pita was toasted to perfection. I then ordered the Lamb Gyro as an entreé. If you love Gyro's, you know it's incredibly difficult to find them with only lamb meat. They're usually the beef/lamb mix, which just isn't the same. The lamb was seasoned perfectly, tender, and delicious. And that tzatziki was to die for - so fresh! Our waiter was relatively attentive, with the exception of a small dip in service after receiving the appetizer, but it allowed for more conversation with my colleague and digestion of the appetizer that I basically consumed alone. I came alone for the second visit, and sat outside on Monday night. Busier than the night before, but they still had plenty of seating. My server, Sasha, was fast, efficient, friendly, and helpful! I ordered the Big Fig Newton cocktail on her recommendation. She said it was similar to an old fashioned, which I generally find too sweet, but decided to try anyway. It had a nice flavor, but alas it was too sweet. I stuck with my go-to and ordered a Manhattan instead. I once again ordered the Spicy Feta to start and devoured it! It was so delicious the first time I needed it again! Sasha timed my entreé perfectly and delivered my Lamb Burger just in time. I love lamb, obviously, and this was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten! I would have had another if I had the room. Finally, I ordered the Baklava to take home. For the taste and portion size, it was WELL worth it. For everything Kid Cashew offers, the prices here are unbelievable. All of the staff helps each other out, fast and friendly service, ambiance, food quality, vegetarian options...all top notch! I highly encourage a visit. You will not regret it! read more

I love going to Kid Cashew. The eclectic design & great service has me coming multiple times throughout the year. My go to is getting the chicken skewers, cast iron Mac, & hummus with pita. I had the opportunity to try the 3 dips & the jalapeño feta dip is definitely a great option as well. Recently I tried there meatballs & the peppercorn gravy is definitely something to crave. They are known for the wood fire grilled rotisseries & it did not disappoint. The asparagus was well seasoned & has a citrus finish with the sauce. I tried there brunch waffle which was a solid choice for a non brunch place and the drinks were tasty & strong. read more
Not sure where to eat on a rainy Sunday afternoon, we stumbled on Kid Cashew. I've been here once previously but my partner had not so she was in for a treat. We arrived not too long before brunch ends (it ends at 3pm), which was purposeful, but our waiter strongly recommended the lunch menu over the breakfast menu. We ordered and this was one of the times where our eyes were almost bigger than our stomachs. I ordered the mountain trout from the wood fire grill section of the menu with half of a quinoa stuffed avocado on the side. We shared the avocado /this time/, but next time we will get our own as we kept passing the dish back and forth across the table as we ate. The mountain trout was cooked perfectly on a bed of tri-color quinoa and a cucumber salsa (both of which were light, and refreshing, perfect with the trout). My partner, who does not eat seafood, also tried the trout and actually enjoyed it as well. It was a lot of food, which was perfect for how hungry we were. The service was great. Not too much to say as it was pretty busy, though we felt like we had everything we needed and received refills and/or napkins whenever empty. We sat in the back not too far away from another party of 2, which normally I don't prefer, but once the food was on the table it didn't matter. The entire vibe of the restaurant was quaint but you could tell they knew what they were doing. Looking back, I do appreciate the honesty of the waiter as the trout was definitely better than anything I could've gotten on that limited brunch menu. Not pictured are the creamy white beans (which were shockingly great btw) and the chicken avocado sandwich with house made chips. The sandwich was good, but nothing to write home about, as were the chips. If this tells you anything, we already planned our course of action for what to get next time we dine there: a variety of small plates. read more

One of our favorite casual spots with outstanding food. We've been here three times since moving and always opt to sit outside on the patio. There has been a wait each time (lunch or middle of the week), but we seem to get a table before too long. I've had the Trout ($17) a couple of times and have absolutely loved it! Also had the Rotisserie Chicken ($12) and it was excellent. My bride ordered the Beet & Arugula Salad with Salmon ($17) and really enjoyed it. Service has been good and the beer selection meets the need :) read more
Amazing. While everyone else seems to be raising their prices, you can get delicious tapas here m-f from 3-6 for $6! I recommend the octopus. Brittany was helpful and attentive. Throw in daily drink specials and you have a well deserved five star review. read more
All of the food we ate and frankly crushed was spectacular. It came out of the kitchen so quickly. I was highly impressed. Our server seemed to be young and in a bad mood or I guess had a flat mood but she still did a good job. Maybe she had a bad day so Grace no doubt given. read more

Saw the reviews and had to try it for myself. The reviews did not disappoint. We went during peak Saturday evening dinner hours, I'm not sure if it was what I ordered, but my wife was eating and almost finished with her dinner before I got my dish. Besides that, the food was great, the ambience was nice and our server although overwhelmed at times was kind and attentive. My wife got the salmon with kimchi and some type of pico. The salmon was very savory and fresh, the meat was tender and well cooked. The ingredients that surrounded the salmon complemented it so well. It was delicious. Honestly, I wish I would have gotten this dish instead of the one I got. I got the Lamb Chops with white beans, it came out on a skillet nice and hot. The seasoning was basic on the lamb chops- not too savory, but not too dull either. The beans were great. We also shared Chicken Skewers. Besides them being bite size (only 4 for $10), the creamy savory sauces that were on them made them worth it. I would probably come back to this place again if I were in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

New fav restaurant in Charlotte. The cluttered but homie vibes, with low hanging chandeliers to the random colored chairs and myriad of tables inside... I was skeptical at first. But the menu is amazing. I have tired almost all of the starters at this point & they have not disappointed. Also, shrimp and grits on the brunch menu?? Amazing. I don't even claim to like shrimp and grits. Will be returning for this again in the near future. & the amazing recommendations from server Matej. 10/10 see you soon kid cashew read more
My partner and I came here on a cold, rainy Monday afternoon for lunch. There is a two part patio situation going on which I think is great for covid. The all weather patio where we chose to sit has excellent outdoor air flow while being covered by the elements and there are heaters and fans to help with temperature control. I forgot to take pictures because I was so hungry and it looked so good!! But I ordered the vegan super grain salad, and my partner ordered pork chops. Both were delicious! My salad had a bit of heat which was nice, and my partner stated that his pork chops tasted as though there was some spice that mixed well with the cream around his dish. His dish was also served in a cast iron pan which is just nice aesthetically. I will absolutely return! read more
Fantastic salmon Caesar salad! We met for brunch and enjoyed special Mimosas for $3. The Caesar salad was delicious with fresh salmon and artichoke vegetables. They also had wonderful cheese sliced fresh and the dressing was amazing. I liked the baked chick peas for crunch. Their patio is good for social distance eating outside. Great service too! My friend and I parked and walked so parking was easy. Definitely suggest parking and walking because their lot is small. read more
It has been said that the South will rise again. Their strategy will be to (1) allow us to stuff our faces with their tasty food, (2) watch us suddenly develop heart problems and then (3) we die clutching our chests while they plow over our towns and replace everything with Waffle Houses and Jefferson Davis monuments. Anyway, we were in Charlotte the other night. It was my wife's birthday and we were visiting old friends. They made the suggestion and paid. Sweet, free food! KC has an eclectic menu that would best be described as New South/Mediterranean fusion. Maybe. The centerpiece is a big old wood-fired grill, visible from the dining room. Anyway it's in an old-timey house, with an interior style that sports a lot of wood and antiquey kitsch. Crowd was energetic and happy chatter was everywhere. I ordered the lamb skewers, which came out a nice medium next to some buttery polenta (an elevated shout to grits, honestly). Of the many vegan items, we nabbed multiple reorders of the Brussel sprouts and were duly impressed by their blistery, blackened flavor. Wife got the pork chops, kids had the grilled cheese. All lovely. Mac and cheese was devoured by the kids. Service was congenial, helpful, and surprisingly fast. Anyway, there's a good mix of southern style cooking here with the occasional and accessible hummus or gyro-type dish. Pretty inventive. I liked it a whole bunch and wish there was one in Atlanta. read more

I'm a critical person when it comes to hospitality and I have to say there was absolutely nothing wrong with anything during our visit. Very solid establishment. You can tell the staff was educated and trained. Food is well above average and ambiance a bit funky but clean. Can't wait to go back again. read more

Great ambiance. Decent food and service. Enough parking (we got here early, so it might be different if we got in late). Reasonable price. We ordered a few tapas dishes plus the lamb Gyro. We probably wouldn't order the brussel sprouts again because it was not the dry roasted type that we expected. Spinach Octopus was very good! Meatballs are ok but too salty. Chicken skewers are tender and not too salty, so we may order again, but nothing too impressive. Lamb gyro is pretty good especially the gyro bread (just the right sickness, crispy and toasty), but we prefer the type of gyro with thinner lamb pieces. I would probably come back for lunch during weekdays as the lunch menu seems to have everything we need with a more friendly price tag. read more
4 stars Mimosas Pincher. 3 stars for the Ambiance! 2 stars for the server who was attentive. 1 star for Mac and Cheese. Great brunch location for ambiance, good lighting, space and decor! Mimosas were great, nice and strong with a taste of orange juice just how we like them!!! Now the Mac and Cheese, now I love Mac & Cheese and this one I was shockingly disappointed! The appearance looked delectable crispy cheese top and creamy inside. Welp, that creamy inside is more butter than cheese and if you don't like Onions beware!! There are small slices of onions in the Mac and Cheese to give it a bite instead of cheese!! As I was eating I was trying to figure out what was giving the texture change and the taste because it is not cheese and l than half way through I tasted an onion and spotted a few. This is better than the truffle Mac and cheese I had but it is definitely not on the top five in Charlotte. My friends ordered the Short Rib and highly really recommended and said it was tender and tasty! read more

Spicy feta dip, shrimp in polenta, half roasted chicken, and the roasted beets / arugula salad with that goat cheese, yaaaas! You won't be disappointed with any of these long time favorites from Kid Cashew. I love sitting on this patio feeling the East Blvd energy & sipping a half priced bourbon on Wednesdays. *pro tip: they have DAILY specials! Each one is fabulous. Check them out on the Kid Cashew website. There are no heat lamps, no freezers and everything is made in house at this wood fired oven haven. The spreads, pita, burgers, and pretty much all the food is deliciously spiced...sauced...and comes out as it's ready. I withheld a fifth star for this place for one reason: the cocktails could use improvement imho. Frozen slushees don't seem to be the vibe here...why are they an entire section of the cocktail menu? *scratches head* the desert margarita was just bad. Laid back, casual, great for a date, and soooo reasonably priced: kid cashew is such a solid choice. Thanks, guys, for being consistently delicious!! read more

We stopped here for lunch and we were not disappointed! This small and quaint restaurant is located in Uptown where scaled back fine dining can be found from a rustic looking establishment to something that will suit your neo-fusion needs. Of course we found this place on yelp! But we didn't let the reviews guide us. At first glance the interior has tons of vintage decor which catches your eye. As well as the way the food is served is also rustic/vintage cafeteria. Our waiter greeted us and our drinks came out quickly. While we visited in lunch their entree menu looked enticing. We had the lunch special which is two small or half portions of their main entrees. I had the rotisserie chicken and the sausage and beans. My wife had the crab chowder which our waiter recommended and the Half avocado and chicken sandwich. The presentation was on point and everything looking amazing and scrumptious. We were NOT disappointed. The crab chowder had huge meaty chunks of crab! It was to die for. You wanted more and more every bite. The broth was also very flavorful, and the sandwich added a nice touch. My chicken was extremely tasty! It had a lemon pepper kick and the green onions were a nice touch. The beans while excruciating hot had great taste and the consistency was there while most beans I'm used to the broth is watery, this was thick and creamy. The sausage we were told was locally grown and made and did not disappoint. All In all this establishment did not disappoint and has become one of our favorites as the atmosphere, staff and great tasting food for the price cannot be beat. Don't sleep on this place. read more

Hi Catherine! Our lunch special is available Monday through Friday from 11am until 3pm! Saturdays and Sundays we offer the brunch menu until 3pm along with the full menu (minus Lunch Pick 2s).

Yes the outdoor patio tables are dog friendly. Our server even provided a water bowl. Not sure of the vegan options though.
Is this safe for people with seafood allergies or is everything cooked on the same part of the grill?
If you inform your server of any allergy they’ll be sure to take all precautions and clean the grill or even sauté the item on a new surface
