I have nothing bad to say about this place. The suite 100 cocktail was the best cocktail I've ever had and I hate alcohol. The bread and compound butter were perfect. Warm bread and soft butter is the ultimate pair. I got the escargot to start and was impressed at the texture of them. Usually they tend to be pretty tough but these weren't! The sauce they come with was very good but lightly spicy, so I would watch out for that if you have an aversion to spice. For my main, I got the filet and added in a lobster tail. The only thing I'll note is that the menu says it comes with fingerling potatoes and I don't think that's what I got. Not a huge issue obviously. I liked that the tables were a good distance from each other and the servers were very kind and knowledgeable. Service and food here is always great. I have gotten other items but I almost always have the salmon. It normally has a crispy skin and great flavor. Once in a while, someone will make the mistake of putting sauce on the skin and ruin it but it's still delish. Last week, there was an odd amount of peppercorns in the sauce. New cook? I was craving pasta, and our waitress assured us the portions were generous--and she wasn't wrong. It hit the spot, and I even had leftovers to take home! As for drinks, I tried two cocktails: French Soixante Quinze (French 75) - Hendrick's Gin, champagne, lemon juice, simple syrup. This was my favorite--well-balanced and refreshing. My husband and I attended here for his birthday on a Saturday evening and really enjoyed ourselves. He was wished a happy birthday upon entering and when greeted by our server, which was a nice touch. The environment is cozy-- although if I had one complaint it would be that the lights above need to be dusted. Our food was delicious. I ordered the elk, and my husband had the steak (a birthday tradition)-- we chose the Oreo bread pudding for dessert. Everything was absolutely delightful. Whoever is baking the bread needs a raise! Was told they close at 8:30pm but the post hours and the restaurant website state and the door say 10pm. Highly disappointed!!! Server seemed surprised the door was locked. Bartender stated that they have tried to change the hours on Google but again the posted hours say 10am during the week. No apology just an extremely dismissive response. The building itself is the star before you even sit down: a beautifully preserved 1929 Mediterranean Revival gem (originally Ratcliffe's Florist Shop) with original floors, red-brick walls and those stunning decorative Tiffany-style stained-glass windows. The arched ceilings and historic details make the whole room glow -- it's romantic, warm, and full of old Charlotte charm without feeling stuffy. You can literally feel the history while you dine. The menu has that perfect "olden take" I was hoping for -- classic fine-dining favorites done with fresh, New American flair. Been wanting to try this place out finally did for our anniversary dinner date! The setting is old world European rustic! Our server was friendly and kept a close eye on us to ensure we had everything needed! Hubby opted for the seared salmon over fingerling tators and I had the roasted duck we enjoyed both. I brought a friend here for lunch. Initially they wanted us to sit at the tables near the bar, but it was so hot in that area. Thankfully, they let us move to the dining room which had nice air conditioning. We sat in the fancy window booth which was great ! We had the ginger lemonade cocktail to start off. For $15, I thought it was quite small. I got the shrimp curry over rice. The curry sauce had amazing flavor. However, the shrimp were not cooked long enough and you could tell they had not been seasoned prior to cooking. That layer of flavor was missing. I think they thought the curry would do the job, but it didn't. Especially since the shrimp was not nicely cooked, the flavor seemed to slide off. My friend got the chicken sandwich with fries and enjoyed it. For dessert we both got the creme brulee. It was nice and creamy. NOTE : Bernardin's does NOT validate parking for lunch. Validation is only 5pm or later. There is a gorgeous garden park directly next to the restaurant which is perfect for a stroll afterward. I doubt if I will return for lunch. Our dinner experiences have always been much better and they always take time to cook things perfectly. However, it has been about 6 months since I've visited. Ok let's get into it...The food... For starters we had the duck confit spring rolls which is stuffed with mushroom, fois gras, cabbage, and plum sauce. After a visit in Paris I felt that I knew what I was in for....NOPE! IT WAS EVEN BETTER!!! So good that I didn't get a picture because after one bite it was devoured immediately! Truly the star of the show! Also for a starter I tried the vegetable soup which was the soup of the day...it was good but definitely could have used a bit more flavor but I liked they didn't skimp on the veggies! For entrees we had the following: Chicken fettuccine carbonara (without the prosciutto) Lobster ravioli that came with a 5 ounce lobster tail! Surf and turf - 9 ounce filet mignon, topped with red wine sauce served with duck fat béarnaise, sautéed spinach and crispy herb potato cake, accompanied by a 5 ounce lobster tail! Side items were the truffle, macaroni and cheese and crispy Brussel sprouts. EVERY SINGLE BITE WAS TOP NOTCH!!!!!! We couldn't finish all our meals so to take it home and reheat the next day is always scary because it might not taste the same but not these items! All was still so delicious! If I can give this place 10 stars I would, but yelp only allows me to give 5 lol. The general manager, James Walker was an absolute gem and made our dining experience exceptional! I have been here couple of times for business dinners and date night. This is a solid place to go if you are looking for a nicer restaurant in the city. Service has always been good and you actually have ample space between tables so you don't feel cramped. However, I don't know if it's the way the ceilings are built but the noise level is pretty bad for a restaurant of this caliber. I can never hear the person sitting across for me and sometimes have had difficulties with the person next to me. There's something unique about the way sound travels in the main dining area. Food is just ok for the price. The emu and venison are unique in that you don't see those options in most places and this place does a pretty solid job of preparing the meat. Outside of those two unique items, everything from the calamari to the crème brûlée are just ok. I'll never complain going here if it's a business dinner or someone else is paying but I don't think I'd ever pick this place for myself. read more

Elk is my husband's favorite food so we are always on the lookout for restaurants that serve it and were excited when we found out that it was on the menu at Bernardin's. Our course that is what he ordered and he did think it was good, although not the best he has had. I ordered the goat cheese ravioli and thought it was really delicious. The sauce was creamy and absolutely the best part of the dish. Service was good and I personally found the decor to be odd. I came here for lunch the other week with a coworker. We made reservations and were immediately seated. It was a good thing as the restaurant was packed. I'm not a huge fan of their setup, though, as the tables are on top of one another, and it was very loud. I ordered the crab cakes, which came with vegetables and french fries. The crab cakes were just standard with decent flavor. The vegetables, on the other hand, were probably some of the most flavorful vegetables that I have had. My husband and I celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary at Bernardin's last night. We are longtime diners at Bernardin's in Winston Salem, and now that we live in Charlotte are pleased to be able to dine here. The food was excellent, I had the lobster stuffed ravioli in a cream sauce and a lobster tail. It has always been a favorite, and was delicious. My husband had the Fresh Pepper filet Mignon, and he said it was great. we also shared a very generous Caesar salad. For dessert I had the Creme Brûlée with strawberries, and he had the chocolate bread pudding. No complaints about either of them. Our server Nathan was very professional yet friendly. The entire team seemed to work well together. The ambience is lovely, very old world, yet unpretentious. The contemporary art on the walls are a nice contrasting touch. read more

This is my first time visiting this restaurant it is located in uptown on Tryon. There is a parking garage next to the restaurant, so it makes it easy for parking. I came out with my family visiting from Atlanta. We were a party of six. We have reservations, and when everyone arrive the server took us to our table I waitress is Taylor. She was super great at accommodating everyone. We definitely had a lot of questions. Not only did Taylor get our food out to us quickly take our drink orders and deliver them in a timely fashion but also she took some pictures for us. I could go on and on about her but overall I was satisfied with the ambience and the food. I ordered salmon and it was supposed to be medium, but it would seem to be overcooked although, t was not dry. I had crabcakes as my appetizer and they were good.
