Salmon, seasonal veggies, mashed potatoes, sauce with too many peppercorns
    Shannon G.

Service and food here is always great. I have gotten other items but I almost always have the salmon. It normally has a crispy skin and great flavor. Once in a while, someone will make the mistake of putting sauce on the skin and ruin it but it's still delish. Last week, there was an odd amount of peppercorns in the sauce. New cook? Not sure what's going on there but it was still yummy as hell! :)

My husband and I did a date night at Bernardins and it was great. We were a little late for our reservation but were still seated right away. Our service was incredible. We split a bottle of wine, calamari appetizer and the wagyu steak entree. Everything was excellent.

I met up with my girlfriends at Bernardin's for a birthday celebration, and the ambiance set the tone perfectly--intimate, moody, with soft music playing in the background. We started with a trio of appetizers to share: Duck Confit Spring Rolls - Duck confit, mushrooms, foie gras, cabbage & plum sauce Fried Calamari - Served with a spicy aioli Fried Brussels Sprouts - Fried garlic & shallots, bacon, Manchego, bourbon soy sauce The duck confit spring rolls were definitely the standout for me, with the fried calamari coming in a close second. Both were flavorful and perfectly cooked. For my entrée, I went with the Chicken Fettuccini Carbonara (grilled chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes, prosciutto, green chickpeas, mushrooms, and parmesan). I was craving pasta, and our waitress assured us the portions were generous--and she wasn't wrong. It hit the spot, and I even had leftovers to take home! As for drinks, I tried two cocktails: French Soixante Quinze (French 75) - Hendrick's Gin, champagne, lemon juice, simple syrup. This was my favorite--well-balanced and refreshing. Suite 100 - Vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, strawberry purée. It was decent but leaned a bit too tart for my taste. My girlfriends enjoyed their cocktails too: Blackberry Collins - Jack Daniels, muddled blackberries, lemon juice, simple syrup, soda water South Tryon Gimlet - Vodka, muddled fresh basil, simple syrup, lime juice Overall, we had a great time celebrating, though nothing stood out enough to make me feel like I need to rush back. It was a pleasant experience, just not one I'd call unforgettable.

Extremely disappointed!! The restaurant hours on the door and online state 10pm. Entered the restaurant at 8:50 and was met with resistance and very cold energy. Was told they close at 8:30pm but the post hours and the restaurant website state and the door say 10pm. Highly disappointed!!! Server seemed surprised the door was locked. Bartender stated that they have tried to change the hours on Google but again the posted hours say 10am during the week. No apology just an extremely dismissive response. Not sure if he was the chef or not but very rude and off putting. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this establishment if you're looking to eat dinner after 8pm.

Friendly atmosphere and courteous service! The food presentation was perfection! The temperature of the food and the flavors were perfection with large portions. We came into town for my birthday and it was a great experience!

Been wanting to try this place out finally did for our anniversary dinner date! The setting is old world European rustic! Our server was friendly and kept a close eye on us to ensure we had everything needed! Hubby opted for the seared salmon over fingerling tators and I had the roasted duck we enjoyed both. Portions were good as well. The Calamari was just ok we have had bette! As an anniversary treat we were served their cobbler of the day with ice cream and a candle to boot . Overall it was a nice evening!

This was a very intimate and nice place to eat dinner with your significant other. The ambiance is very romantic and the decor is chic. The service was excellent as our bartender and server were happy to help our group and celebrate birthdays. My food was delicious. I ordered the duck and calamari and everything was delicious! Very tasty and well seasoned! I also tried two cocktails and they were excellent! The blackberry Collin's and the south tryon gimlet were very good! Tasty!

I've eaten here several times and the taste and quality is always on point. We had reservations and was seated quickly. The ambiance and atmosphere match the food quality as well. I had a combination of perfectly cooked salmon with a creamy spinach risotto and finishing with a decadent chocolate tort was absolutely wonderful. It's restaurant week and I highly recommend giving them a try.

I brought a friend here for lunch. Initially they wanted us to sit at the tables near the bar, but it was so hot in that area. Thankfully, they let us move to the dining room which had nice air conditioning. We sat in the fancy window booth which was great ! We had the ginger lemonade cocktail to start off. For $15, I thought it was quite small. I got the shrimp curry over rice. The curry sauce had amazing flavor. However, the shrimp were not cooked long enough and you could tell they had not been seasoned prior to cooking. That layer of flavor was missing. I think they thought the curry would do the job, but it didn't. Especially since the shrimp was not nicely cooked, the flavor seemed to slide off. My friend got the chicken sandwich with fries and enjoyed it. For dessert we both got the creme brulee. It was nice and creamy. NOTE : Bernardin's does NOT validate parking for lunch. Validation is only 5pm or later. There is a gorgeous garden park directly next to the restaurant which is perfect for a stroll afterward. I doubt if I will return for lunch. Our dinner experiences have always been much better and they always take time to cook things perfectly. However, it has been about 6 months since I've visited. Hopefully, dinners are still good here.

We had a work dinner here. Alex was top notch! The ambience is perfect for a work dinner, date night or special celebration. Our group has sea bass, goat cheese ravioli, steak and bread pudding. All were amazing. Again, our service was amazing. Alex was great in every way.

We went for our wedding anniversary and we will definitely be back! We ordered four appetizers: Duck liver pate, which was is creamy and rich; Duck spring roll; full of bold flavors; Crab cakes with all meaty crab meat; and calamari which was delightful! For our main course we ordered the Duck breast. It was seasoned well and cooked to perfection! The other main course was the rack of lamb which was also cooked to perfection and full of flavor also! We enjoyed every bite of both our mains!

    Scallops ala ammonia

A great restaurant in a great location. The inside is beautiful. However, the food, no bueno and neither is the service. I ordered the scallops and they smelled and tasted like ammonia. I let the server know and the manager, James, came over to argue with me about the freshness of the scallops and accused me of being hostile. This is my first and last time eating here, and I would advise you to avoid this place at all costs because the chef and the manager don't know basic food safety.

I absolutely love a pleasant surprise... Bernardin's in Charlotte was IT! From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, I had an astounding experience! This was not a special occasion, where I was looking for my socks to be blown off, but instead, just a regular night out with my girls, and wanted to eat some good food. Our server Nhip was a gem! So sweet and knowledgeable of the menu she made it easy to decide amongst all of our individual taste buds and preferences even when we overlooked some ingredients that we wouldn't like she brought it to our attention! A+++ Nhip! She needs a raise! The dining area we were seated at overlooked the entire dining room and felt very private! we liked that a lot and was necessary because we desperately needed to catch up...Nice touch! Ok let's get into it...The food... For starters we had the duck confit spring rolls which is stuffed with mushroom, fois gras, cabbage, and plum sauce. After a visit in Paris I felt that I knew what I was in for....NOPE! IT WAS EVEN BETTER!!! So good that I didn't get a picture because after one bite it was devoured immediately! Truly the star of the show! Also for a starter I tried the vegetable soup which was the soup of the day...it was good but definitely could have used a bit more flavor but I liked they didn't skimp on the veggies! For entrees we had the following: Chicken fettuccine carbonara (without the prosciutto) Lobster ravioli that came with a 5 ounce lobster tail! Surf and turf - 9 ounce filet mignon, topped with red wine sauce served with duck fat béarnaise, sautéed spinach and crispy herb potato cake, accompanied by a 5 ounce lobster tail! Side items were the truffle, macaroni and cheese and crispy Brussel sprouts. EVERY SINGLE BITE WAS TOP NOTCH!!!!!! We couldn't finish all our meals so to take it home and reheat the next day is always scary because it might not taste the same but not these items! All was still so delicious! If I can give this place 10 stars I would, but yelp only allows me to give 5 lol. The general manager, James Walker was an absolute gem and made our dining experience exceptional! Please do yourself a favor and make reservations today you will not regret it! Bernadin's I cannot wait for you to have me back! Next time I have to meet the chef! THANK YOU BERNADIN'S!

The one dish that was a little questionable was the trout. It was accompanied by broccolini and black lentils. It didn't seem to pair well. Flavors were there, however the last time we dined it was paired with a succotash. Every other plate we had just burst with flavors and spices. The poke bowl was our favorite. We also had a crab dip that was good. The calamari gave us hints of a bang bang flavor. The ribeye was tender and paired well with the blue cheese. This restaurant is very nicely designed. It's visually appealing with tables indoors, a bar area, and an outside dining area. The hostess and my server were professional and extremely nice and made my dining experience very pleasant. The reason I am giving three stars instead of four or more comes down to value. Seafood is expensive, I get that. But I don't know that there's much value to be had here. Portion sizes are small relative to what you're paying for. And in my opinion, while the freshness and the quality of the seafood may be there, the flavor is not. I have no doubt that the quality of the seafood here is good. But I did not enjoy anything I ordered. I wasn't put off by the food, but I wish I had wanted to savor each bit. I ordered the cajun grilled oysters and the miso sablefish. I thought both were too salty and despite paying over $40 for the meal, I left still a bit hungry.

Their high end places like Capitol Grill, Seasons 52 and Ruth Chris have declined significantly in the past years. But Eddie V's has been in my list for a while. We were incredibly surprised at the high end quality, service, variety and experience we had in this location. We went for an anniversary dinner celebration and everything we ordered was perfect. The steak tartar made at the table, fresh oysters in half shelf were very nicely presented, the meat and the lobster were excellent, free dessert complimentary of the restaurant, and best of all, we did not break the bank. The atmosphere sophisticated but not stuffy. Live instrumental pop music provided a nice ambiance without being disruptive. And the service was par none. I've dined at…read moreEddie V's before and have always associated it with exceptional food and impeccable service. Unfortunately, this Restaurant Week visit was nothing like the Eddie V's I remembered. I dined solo at the bar and actually had to ask for the Restaurant Week menu. I chose the upgraded lobster bisque (+$5) and Chilean sea bass (+$10), looking forward to treating myself. I rarely splurge on a nice dinner, so this was something I had been excited about all day. The food was mixed. The lobster bisque was flavorful, although the amount of lobster was surprisingly small. The mashed potatoes were outstanding, and the asparagus was very good. The Chilean sea bass was cooked well but lacked seasoning and wasn't the memorable entrée I expected. The biggest disappointment, however, was the service. The restaurant was less than half full during my visit, so the extended delays were especially surprising. I waited an unusually long time for my entrée while guests who arrived after me were served first. Another surprise was that the only restroom I was directed to required going down to the basement, which was difficult with my mobility issues (I need my knee replaced). I would encourage the restaurant to make it clearer whether there is an accessible restroom available on the main floor, as this could be challenging for many guests. After another long wait for dessert, I asked to have my crème brûlée boxed because the delays meant I would now be walking back to my hotel after dark. I explained that I had intentionally walked there for exercise and had planned to walk back before dark. The response I received was simply, "Just call an Uber." That completely missed the point. I wasn't asking for transportation--I was explaining how the delays had changed my evening. To add to the confusion, I was given two desserts instead of the one I requested. While I appreciate the gesture if it was intended that way, it reinforced the feeling that no one was really listening. What disappointed me most wasn't simply the wait. It was the complete lack of service recovery. No sincere apology, no acknowledgment of how long I'd waited, and no effort to make the experience feel special. I've always thought of Eddie V's as one of Charlotte's premier dining experiences. That's exactly why this visit was so disappointing. I sincerely hope this was an isolated experience because I'd like to remember Eddie V's for the exceptional restaurant it has been in the past.

My husband and daughter both enjoyed their steaks and had no complaints about their meals. Unfortunately, my experience was quite different. I ordered the scallops. After taking a few bites of the first one, I noticed something tasted off but initially thought it might just be me. I cut into a second scallop and while the first taste seemed normal, the more I chewed it, the stronger a chemical-like flavor became. The only way I could describe it was that it tasted like cleaning products. When I mentioned it to our waitress, she immediately asked if it tasted like ammonia. I said yes, exactly. She told me that sometimes this happens but assured me it wasn't because the scallops were bad. She offered to replace my meal and suggested lamb, which I don't eat, so i choose the chicken dish she suggested instead. By the time the replacement arrived, my husband and daughter were nearly finished with their meals, and honestly, I had lost my appetite. The chicken was somewhat dry, although the potatoes were very good. I only ate a couple of bites. What disappointed me most was the lack of management involvement. At no point did a manager visit our table to discuss the issue, apologize, or check on the situation. After the replacement meal, we were simply presented with the bill. We weren't asked if we would like to look at the desert menu and I was charged for the chicken replacement that I took two bites from. After getting home, I researched scallops with an ammonia taste and found that it can indicate handling or freshness issues. Thankfully, I haven't become seriously ill, though I did experience an upset stomach for the entire evening afterward. I'm glad my husband and daughter enjoyed their meals and I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for quite some time. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I won't be returning. Review for Brown Bag Seafood Co…read more This was my first introduction to Brown Bag Seafood Co., and since we don't have this concept back in Northern California, I was definitely curious to try it. As someone who grew up around incredible seafood in the Bay Area -- places like Sam's Chowder House and New England Fish Company -- my expectations were naturally a little high. When you're close to the coast, the bar for seafood is set pretty high. That said, this is a very simple, fast-casual seafood concept, and they execute that model consistently. I've now visited a few locations -- one in Huntersville, one that used to be in South End on Worthington, and this Uptown location on Tryon -- and they all share the same strengths: * Clean, well-organized spaces * Nice outdoor seating * Convenient locations in walkable, high-traffic areas * Fast, efficient service The menu is straightforward but flexible. You can build your meal in a lot of different ways -- dress it up, keep it light, or customize it to your taste -- which is a big plus. Food-wise, it's good... just not memorable. The lobster roll, for me, was a little on the greasy side. I tend to prefer a lighter preparation. The tacos, on the other hand, were a better fit -- fresh, flavorful, and a bit easier to enjoy. Overall, the food is solid, but it hasn't quite become my first choice when I'm craving seafood. Value-wise, prices are reasonable for the concept, and the experience is reliable. It's a dependable option when you're downtown, short on time, or looking for a quick seafood fix. Bottom line: Clean, convenient, and consistent -- but not destination dining for me. Still, it's worth trying at least once to see how it fits your taste. Charlotte -- be curious and get out there and eat your way through this city. There's something for every palate.
