I interviewed lots of child care centers prior to settling with KALE. The director I met a month before was not the same when my kids started. When they got a new teacher for my kid's class, they did not inform the parents. Luckily, I paid additional ($40/month) for the cameras so I questioned my kiddo about the new teacher. Other parents had no idea for at least a month. There were 22 kids crammed into a room with one teacher and a floating teacher sometimes. As for the cameras, they did not charge monthly. They deducted the total from the refundable deposit. With the constant changes, organization is not a priority. I asked the director two weeks prior to Christmas what the plan was and she said she is just thinking about the next day. Yikes! One of my kiddos was not acclimating well to the new environment and she couldn't get any attention from the teacher since the teacher was wrangling almost 20 kids. My kid was usually alone and I didn't see the teacher trying to engage or encourage her to join the rest of the class. I pick up my little one at the same time every day right before nap time. Sometimes, they would have the kids wait by the door for over 30 minutes in the dark. Speaking of doors, they do not have conventional closed doors. All doors are short so you can hear everything going on in other classes. Onto the neutral/plus side, the school had some potential. The meals were on par with other places, the curriculum was admirably challenging, and they tried to set up events on Sundays but they were usually low turnouts. I wish the school all the best but I can't recommend it to my fellow parent friends and their kids.

When we raised these concerns with the school, we did not feel they were addressed appropriately. Additionally, we observed that the front office staff, particularly Karla, did not greet us as they did with other parents, and the teachers were often unwelcoming. On multiple occasions, our daughter was sent home in soiled clothing. We ultimately decided to withdraw our child from the school. Upon leaving, we were escorted out by Karla without any acknowledgment or thanks. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this school to families of color. We hope sharing our story helps others make an informed decision. We were also paying over $350 per week for tuition which is insane.

The tour and discovery day were amazing -- kind staff, great atmosphere, and a beautiful curriculum. Our child felt welcome and had a great time, so we enrolled her and even paid for camera access. Once the real days started, everything changed. From day one, no one greeted her. The teacher looked unhappy, took her without saying a word, and told me to leave. My child cried all day and no one comforted her. The response was: "Teachers have many kids and can't give attention to everyone." The following days were the same. No real curriculum, kids wandering around, teachers on their phones, my child crying with no support. "Quiet time" was supposed to be 12-2, but kids were forced to lie in the dark from 11:30am to 2:30pm. When I questioned it, they said the teacher was "in the restroom" - for 3 hours?! My child started having meltdowns and didn't want to go at all. On the cameras I saw kids crying on the floor, being ignored, fighting with no adult help, and teachers being rude or disengaged. The manager admitted she knows the staff is bad and can't find better ones. Teachers said they don't have time for a curriculum, and the manager said "it's Montessori, there is no real curriculum" -- even though one was proudly shown during the tour. One day we picked her up and they were all watching TV. Another time babies were left crying with no one responding -- I ended up calming one baby because I couldn't ignore the crying. One evening at home, my child started hitting her own hand. When I asked why, she said: "The lady does it." We don't have a babysitter and it's only me and my husband, so I have no idea who she was referring to. We took our child out after a couple of weeks. Our son dreaded going to his summer program until starting kiddie academy. We see him learning and enjoying his peers. He comes home with a smile every day. I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff and owner. From the moment we enrolled our child, we've been impressed with their caring staff and nurturing environment. The teachers are incredibly patient and skilled at fostering both educational growth and emotional development. Our child looks forward to going each day, which speaks volumes about the center's warm atmosphere and engaging activities. As parents, we feel confident and grateful knowing our child is in such capable hands. Highly recommend!

We love the teachers, the administrative team, and have celebrated many milestones with classmates & their parents. KA fosters a fun, safe, and healthy environment for the kids, teachers, and parents. The teachers are always creating engaging learning activities for my son. The teachers are super helpful with techniques of transition like bottles to cups, pacifier weening, eating solids, trying new foods, potty training, riding a tricycle, etc. Drop-offs are a breeze, my son looks forward to seeing his friends and teachers each day (if they are on vacation he totally welcomes the change with ease bc all of the teachers are fantastic and he is familiar with all of them) Pickups are also joyful, the excitement to see me and joy to end the day by giving hugs and sharing goodbyes around the classroom and through out the hallways fills my heart! During COVID their mask mandate, dropoff/pickup routine and cleaning protocols kept our minds at complete ease (for our little guy health and a member in our household personal health concerns during unprecedented times). Kiddie Academy of Stonebridge-McKinney is a great school for my family.

Coming from a large chain(now they are in Elmhurst), I can assure you, that is way ABOVE normal for childcare centers. Most teachers have been there a LONG time. Bigger is not always better, it really depends on what is important to your family. I watched the owner personally work open to close for MONTHS. I never once met an owner at any chain, or any of those big franchise owners care or were involved in operations. Every center has pros and cons, for us, it was not being a number, not having massive chaos at pick up and being that we live in Elmhurst, I LOVE seeing the owner and having her contact info. That was not something I ever thought of until EPC, for us, it matters. My child has done amazing and we love miss Ayanna, she is calm, compassionate and very very good with my child. I would recommend EPC to anyone.
