I came here as a kid and it was so nostalgic to bring my own children here. I love that they still have fun "prizes" for the kids after their cut and the little girls still get the signature braid and bow. Jodi is so personable, patient with kiddos and skilled at her job. She did a fabulous job with both my 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son. They got toys to play with during the cut and were so excited to pick their candy reward at the end. I'd gone to Kiddy Kastle a few times in middle school and had always loved the experience and thought it was so cute that they had the car and boat chairs for little ones. Fast forward 10 years I just brought my 8 month old son for a trim today and I just had to write a review. I didn't get her name but she wears glasses and has purple hair just like the last time I saw her and wow, she did an amazing job considering how difficult it was to keep him still. I'm so glad I remembered to come here because they already had my trust and I knew they were going to do a great job but she exceeding my expectations!! We took our 22 month old twins here. My twins can be difficult; I didn't think they would sit still for a haircut. We were impressed and pleasantly satisfied that the staff was able to cut their hair while keeping them distracted with toys. Britni cut my older twin's hair, and Charlene cut the younger one's hair. They have the kids sit in toy cars and boats. They know how to keep them seated and prevent them from trying to crawl around or stand up. We were in and out in around 20 minutes. I recommend this place if you have young kids. They did a great job! You can check out my before and after photos of the twins. Be sure to call ahead and schedule an appointment. (I am surprised to see so many 1 star reviews. We had a great experience, but we went about 3 months ago. Called at noon on a Sunday and the lady that answered the phone said if I could make it in then she had an opening. I took my 4 year old and 8 year old and Charlene was amazing!! She gave the 4 year old a Longer bob haircut and cut 8 inches off the 8 year old. She also gave me product recommendations for my toddlers hair to control wispy fly always. Our experience getting our 1.3 year old son's head shaved for a ritual was ruined completely with a bleeding cut on his head. As first time parents we were expecting a smooth and uneventful procedure considering that this place is in business for such a long time. Unfortunately, it was not. We are very disappointed and saddened and our son is now left with a scar on his scalp probably with no hair growing back on that area. A piece of advice to Kiddy Kastle - spend an extra minute or two to get to know the kid's scalp before starting off. And this comes from parents who are both medical professionals. read more

Took my kid to get a haircut and they did a horrific job. They shaved off all of his sideburns and the cut was very uneven all around. I'm really disappointed and hope that his hair grows out more for his Easter pictures. read more

We love kiddie Kastle have been coming here for years. We love it so much we have driven from both seal beach and Huntington Beach to have our kids hair cut here. We have taken our kids to other kid centered places and the results have been inconsistent. My kids love Charlene. The ladies here aren't super bubbly personalities but they work well with kids and know how to talk to them weather the kids are happy or upset. Give them a try I bet you won't be disappointed and if you are let them know they have always made everything right for us and I think as with any hair dresser communication is the key! read more

I'm pretty sure the ladies that work here do not even have valid cosmetology licenses. I show the stylist a picture of a cut that I'd like for my 3 year old son and she immediately tells me 'I can't do that. We don't do styles like that.' It was just a normal haircut with longer hair on the top and then faded. For some reason I still let the stylist cut his hair and afterwards I was so sad. His worst haircut ever. She butchered his hair with scissors only. He had long hairs still not cut and going into his ears and I said something. Her reply was 'I can't do that, you'll have to cut those at home.' Oh and she never smiled once, talked to my son throughout his cut, and seemed as if she was doing ME a favor by cutting his hair. Bottom line, rude, unprofessional, and doesn't even seem to enjoy working with children. read more

Truly unfortunate experience. I definitely would not recommend. From the minute we walked in the stylist was standoffish and not at all welcoming. She never acknowledged my husband and talked down to our daughter. I asked her opinion on my children's hair and she almost seemed bothered at having to answer my questions. Not at all engaging and gave me nothing but short answers. Our son's hair is butchered. Completely uneven and with no visible style. I understand that it may be difficult to cut a 1 year olds hair due to the fact that they move often and don't yet understand direction but this is why you trust that a "kids" salon is better suited for this. This place is definitely not. My son sat fairly still other than towards the end. He was a bit uneasy about the hair clippers and began moving around a bit at which point the stylist became a bit rough when trying to hold his head in place. Needless to say we will not be returning. Please save yourself the trip and go elsewhere. read more

Kiddie Kastle was nothing short of amazing. I seriously couldn't believe my 23 month old son sat through his first hair cut with patience and ease with Britni! She's awesome! My son chose the boat to sit in and we gave him some toys to keep his hands occupied if they weren't on the boat's steering wheel. The only time he got fidgety was when Britni was lining him up with the clippers but even then Britni took her time and my son allowed her to finish. $23 first time hair cut experience with some of his hairs placed in a clear alphabet box for memories, certificate, and hair cut. Not bad at all! I was expecting worse from him and an unpleasant experience, but it turned out great! We even gave him his first lollipop for being so good. I would suggest this place for sure!!! I went here for my son's first haircut thinking they'd be nice and patient since they're a kiddie place and deal with kids all the time. The first lady was impatient with my scared and crying son bc she said she had an appt after us. Thankfully Alyssa had an opening instead and was patient. I went here once more and specifically asked for Alyssa. She again was nice and patient and the cut was quick. My son was also calmer and it was the easiest haircut ever! I found this salon on yelp. The only childrens salon around here. I called and made an appt for 12pm. My daughter is 4 years old and has super long semi curly hair past her bum. This was her first hair cut ever!!! This place only takes cash or check as a form of payment as I was told when I made the appt. Plenty of parking. Its located in a strip mall. Super cute decoration. Lanterns, tiaras, bows galore and toys for the children to play with. The set up overall is perfectly made for Princesses. Some of their seats are cars and boats for the small kids. We were seated right away. We decided on going with a trim and some layers. When the lady was done she did a quick braid and put a cute bow in my daughters hair. She also gave my younger daughter a bow so that she wouldnt feel left out. That was nice of her. There were 2 other ladies in the back office who came out and didnt receive any smiles or greetings from them. There were no other customers at the time either. I like the set up of this place but maybe I set my expectations too high especially when this place caters to kiddies... maybe not. The stylist was kinda mono toned even when my daughter was trying to chat with her. I was expecting some bubbly personality to go along with decor I guess. Oh we were wrong from the moment we walked in we were welcomed with ugly faces and rude attitudes. I brought my 2 year old son here yesterday to have his first professionally hair cut done. We didn't have an appointment but was quickly seen by the hairdresser, Elise. I'm giving a 4 star rating for the haircut 'coz it was exactly how I described what I wanted done. I'm giving a 2.5-3 star rating for Elise. She has great cutting skills but unfortunately lacks social skills. My son was afraid & was crying when we started. He was on their "car" salon chair at first but he got upset that I had to put him on my lap to continue the haircut. He continued to cry and would move his head. I had to hold his arms and reassure him over & over that he'll be okay, that it wouldn't hurt. All the while Elise continued cutting his hair saying nothing. Her facial expression was one of impatience & I felt like we were imposing on her. For a kiddie salon, I was expecting that the employees would be friendly to kids & make sure that they are comfortable. Overall, the place was clean & the other ladies seemed nice. The kids also get a treat of their choice after their haircut. I paid $16 plus tip (I just couldn't NOT tip even if I wasn't 100% happy with the service...the haircut was great). My hair is never dry or damaged due to her products and I receive many compliments on how healthy my hair looks. The shops atmosphere is calm and comfortable. I used to bring my kids to Kiddie Kastle for haircuts 30 years ago. At that time children's salons were plentiful in the area. Not so much now. So I suggested to my daughter that we try it for her two year old. MISTAKE. The first time we took her the woman who was working, alone, admonished us for not having an appointment, though there was absolutely no one else around. She was rude and abrupt and impatient with my granddaughter who recently turned two. This was the baby's first haircut. The middle aged, overweight, red head, actually threw up her hands and said "What do you expect me to do with this." I was ready to walk out right then but my daughter is an academic and is not a fan of making scenes in public. The woman, though with a scowl on her face, cut straight bangs and trimmed the ends of her hair. Meh. Today we tried again MADE AN APPOINTMENT. Joke, this place is always empty. We wanted an English bang and another trim. My little granddaughter is neither a perfectly behaved two year old nor one who is especially poorly behaved. The woman who was to do the cut said "I cannot do this cut on this kid unless she is perfectly behaved because I will touch her skin with the scissors." Really, Lady? Your whole gig is to be a CHILDREN'S HAIR STYLIST. Surely you have dealt with little girls who are squirmy before. Once again my daughter relented and we ended up with a cut that I could have done myself at home. It is my opinion that this place has seen it's day and the "stylists" are old worn out hags who have not kept their licenses up to date and have been sent out to cosmetologist pasture. They HATE children. They know nothing about cutting children's hair. We will never, EVER, return. We will take this toddler to an adult stylist who does not treat her like a nuisance and US like nothing but a bother. These women are like taking your child to Nurse Ratchet or Cruella Deville for a child's service. They absolutely need to shutter their shabby little salon. I have been going to Kiddy Kastle since I was about 11, 12 and I am now 28 and YES, 16 years later I STILL go there! Jodi is the only person I have let cut my hair for so long and she does an amazing job every time! I'm usually in and out within 30 minutes (that includes shampooing, cut and style) which costs me $25, NOT including a tip. You can't beat the service AND the price! I always walk out very happy with my experience. TIPS: * Make an appointment! They do accept walk ins but from my experience it is better to make an appointment that way you are GUARANTEED service. * They only accept CASH and CHECKS. No debit or credit cards! Made an appointment and took my 4 yr old son to get a hair cut yesterday. The older woman who works there was very rude. The woman who cut my child's hair did a horrific job. I asked for a medium fade and she cut it under 10 minutes. She shaved off all of his sideburns and the cut was overall, very uneven. Very sloppy work. Way overpriced as well.
